I'm in the market a new used car looking to buy within the next week or so, I've been on the hunt I like Toyotas and I am a big fan of the C-HR. I was super excited when I found this car, but calling the dealership took any joy out of the entire experience. I found a 2019 Toyota C-HR listed around $15.5k on Carfax and tracked it down to this dealership. I called in to ask a few basic questions before making the trip. From the start, the tone was off. I was told they were "very busy," which I understood and even offered to call back, but was told to continue anyway. I spoke with Chris, who came across as dismissive throughout the call. During the conversation, he asked where I was located. I provided both my city and zip code, and he responded with "no, I said city," even though I had already clearly given it. It felt unnecessarily rude and set the tone for the rest of the interaction. Throughout the call, he also spoke in a way that made it feel like he was doing me a favor by allowing me to purchase the car, rather than actually helping a potential customer. When I asked for an out-the-door price (a standard question as a serious buyer), I was quoted nearly $3,500 more than the listing and told they "don't like to give out-the-door prices" because those customers don't usually buy. I was also told they prioritize customers physically in front of them. As someone ready to purchase, I'm not willing to drive in without knowing if we're even close on price. The lack of transparency, combined with the tone of the conversation, made the experience feel unprofessional and not customer-focused. Purchased Used Car -- Major Failure After 8 Months, $7,600 Repair Needed I purchased a 2019 Honda Odyssey from Auto Republic, and only 8 months later the car suddenly slipped itself into neutral while I was driving on a freeway ramp with my family inside. We were nearly hit by a semi truck. After getting safely off the ramp, I contacted Auto Republic to see if they could help. I was told the vehicle wasn't under warranty. When I asked why no warranty was offered at purchase, they told me it was "probably because we financed through Schools First." Jimmy in the service department was polite and did try to help by offering a discounted labor rate and calling around for prices. However, repairs with them are ultimately too risky to do through the dealership, and we have to take the car elsewhere. The total cost to make the vehicle safe and drivable again is $7,600 or more --less than a year after purchase. I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding one of the worst car purchasing experiences of my life, which occurred at your dealership. I was pre-approved for financing through Capital One and contacted the dealership in advance to submit my information. I informed the salesperson, Chris, that I would be traveling from another city and wanted to complete the majority of the paperwork beforehand to expedite the process upon arrival. During my phone call with Chris, I was rushed off the line before I could fully discuss my Capital One pre-approval. He told me someone else would follow up, but instead, I received an alert that my credit was submitted to a different bank--without my consent. Claudio later contacted me and scheduled a 2:00 PM appointment for the following day, stating that everything was ready for me. I arrived promptly at 2:00 PM and waited over two hours in the back lobby before I was even allowed to test drive the vehicle. While approaching the vehicle, I noticed all doors were open and later learned this was due to adhesive being sprayed on the dashboard--a fact that should have been disclosed upfront. After the test drive, Chris presented me with a financing offer from Ally Bank, not Capital One, and the interest rate and monthly payment were significantly higher. I asked why Capital One wasn't used, and Claudio, wearing an Ally Bank shirt, admitted that he never submitted my application to them. My Godmother, who is a former finance manager, expressed concerns that this was a deceptive practice likely done to secure a higher kickback from Ally. When I went to inspect the car again, I noticed the leather on the dashboard was lifting. Chris dismissed the concern until I insisted it was a dealbreaker. After going back and forth, Claudio said their shop manager would not be available until Monday to evaluate the issue. To add insult to injury, I was told the deal was only valid for that day, and Capital One would not honor it if I left--information that was clearly false, as I confirmed with Capital One directly via speakerphone in front of Chris. Eventually, we came to an agreement in the office, but when I reviewed my contract at home, the interest rate was higher than what we agreed upon. On Monday, I returned the vehicle and Chris told me they wouldn't fix the dashboard, claiming the repair would be "half decent" at best. I was already sick from the fumes of the previous adhesive they applied. Eleven days later, I received a letter stating I needed to return the vehicle. When I called, Chris said it was an error. However, I later discovered the dealership had been submitting my credit application repeatedly--*without my consent*. When I addressed the incorrect interest rate, Chris told me it was "not a big deal" and asked why I was so concerned. He then asked if I had received a repair estimate for the dashboard--again deflecting responsibility after they had already misled me. To date, I am still waiting for a follow-up call from Claudio that was promised days ago. The lack of transparency, unauthorized credit submissions, and overall disregard for ethical conduct throughout this process are unacceptable. ZERO stars. This place is a scam operation run by clowns. We drove over an hour with a scheduled appointment to meet Chris--only to be told he was "too busy" to help us. Seriously? We were passed off to Junior, who clearly didn't care and knew next to nothing about the cars. We came to look at a Kia K5 that was advertised with spotless photos--except the car in person had deep scratches all over the paint and damaged interior. When we pointed it out, Junior shrugged and said, "ehh they can be buffed out." Unreal. Then came the painfully slow test drive process--it took 15 minutes just to take down my license info. Junior tried to create urgency by saying, "this car had over 50 hits on it this weekend," and "it's going to sell fast, it's the only Kia we have." But then, when we asked why it's still sitting if it's so popular, he completely contradicted himself by saying, "well, not everyone is in the market for a Kia right now." Make it make sense. Even worse, we were shown another Kia on the lot (so much for only having one), which reeked of smoke. When we asked if the previous owner was a smoker, Junior literally said, "Well, you are in California." What kind of response is that?! That same car had visible damage on the driver's door, like someone had tried to break in--and again, Junior brushed it off like it was no big deal. Complete joke. Eventually, we meet Chris--and I wish we hadn't. Cocky, arrogant, rude--one of the worst people I've ever dealt with at a dealership. We asked if there was any room to negotiate the price, and his response was, "Well, you drove an hour, so clearly it's a good deal." Excuse me? That's how you treat customers? Then he went on a bizarre ego trip, telling us about his forensic science degree, his law enforcement parents, and how he's sold over 5,000 cars. What does that have to do with selling me a car? Absolutely nothing. Just pure ego. Clearly after reading the reviews he is "well educated" as he apparently has all types of degrees yet still works as this shady "dealership" if you want to call it that. When we finally sit down inside, he leaves us sitting at a table for 20 minutes, ignoring us while other customers were clearly frustrated too. When he returns, he slaps down a paper with $25,000 OTD written in Sharpie--for a car that was listed at $19,000. When we questioned it, he rattled off nonsense about LoJack, clear coat, and other fees, saying "they've had it a while and need to make money on it." That was it. No real explanation. No willingness to work with us. And then he hits us with a "Sorry, we are too far off, have a great day." Chris is a terrible salesman--rude, condescending, full of himself, and not even remotely helpful. This place is the definition of shady. Save yourself the drive, the gas, and the headache. Drove 2 hours to buy the truck When it rained a few days later after I bought it The back window began to leak water inside onto i my sons car seat. I drove back 2 hours when the weather was better just so I can get told to make a appointment for next week. Chris who sold me the truck said he doesn't have to fix it if he don't want to after I drove back 2 hours to get it fixed. Each trip was $100. When I come back for the 3rd time they say the person who fixes windshield ain't here so I would have to come back again. They tried to blame me for the leak by saying I took the camper off when the camper never touched the windshield. They have a bunch of trucks with back racks that none touch windows. All they offered was $100 refund when that won't even cover the cost to repair elsewhere. I took the $100 and rather got the job done right elsewhere. Careful they are cheap and don't make up for their word on fixing your car. You can tell the service manager wanted to help me but the owners wouldn't give him what he needed in order to get the job done fast. Bad Dealer if you ask me. read more

When I arrived and saw some people looking at the car and Chris told me that some people came to also look at the car. Though he did attempt to relate it to selling a house as a realtor which was a bit of a stretch. I told him that I would be writing about my experience and he said he would defend their decision. He mentioned "first come first serve". Mostly seemed that he was attempting to downplay their inconvenience and talk over me as I shared my experience. If the other party was going to buy the car then it's interesting that they walked out and got in their truck and then I was allowed to take the car on a test drive. If that's how they do business thats how they do business. Lesson learned on my end. Though Chris asked me if there were any other cars to look at and kept it professional.
