Came by today to get an emissions test (twice actually if you count my morning trip). Was super excited to see they opened at 7; so I swung by at 745; but their sign said they didn't do state/emissions inspections until 9; so I went to work. On the way home stopped by and was helped by two gentlemen who were super polite/friendly and easily helped me with my emissions test. I was expecting quite a wait; but they said about 15 mins and I was probably already back in the car in that amount of time. Next time I have a car issue I'll be back to get mechanically work done if I needed. January 2023 update: called to see when their emissions bay closed and was told if I made it in the next ten mins he'd help me. I rushed here as fast as I could and they were happy to help. My daughter had a horrible experience just trying to get a refund on a faulty overpriced usb cable. The employee didn't believe the cable didn't work, tried to get her to exchange it for another cable, then when she said she just wanted to get a refund, he laughed at her and called other customers up. Made her wait, while he assisted other customers, instead of just doing the refund. Wasting 20 minutes of her time just to get the refund finally taken care of. No respect, just because she is a young woman, like her time is not just as valuable as every other customer. read more

I live near Mason and have used University Mall Sunoco for many years. It has changed hands recently (January 2022) and my husband and I both took our cars for inspections, oil changes, and tire rotations. The new crew is very friendly and helpful, providing the same expert service we've had for years. I will also say that from 2014-2019, our kids were driving and at one point we had 4 older cars. We took the cars there for EVERYTHING, big and small, and all of the services were outstanding. I highly recommend this service station. read more

I've been coming here for oil changes and inspections for the last 4 years and I've never been taken advantage of until today. Went in for a basic oil change as I usually do, was called to pick it up on time. Handed the tech my credit card and noticed I was charged almost double. They said it was for the premium oil change which I did not request. I was upset but more disappointed since this never happened before. Will not be returning and neither will my husband. read more

Thieves and a.holes in the repair shop So I had a very bad experience with this Sunoco repair shop a while ago but never wanted to write a bad review thinking that was just a misfortunate event for me. But another encounter obliged me to write this review for others to know, especially for GMU students as I know this shop is very close to GMU and very appealing for students. Here are the events, you be the judge: 1- I took my old Suzuki Forenza 2008 to this shop when I was a student at GMU (which was worth maybe $3k at the time) for state inspection. When I went to pick it up, I saw the guy (I am not going to give any names here but let's call him Mr. 1) had rejected the car and gave me a quote for $1200. He said the rack & pinion is leaking, the cooling belt is worn and both were needed to be replaced. So &1.2K for 2 items. If you know about the price of off-the-market parts, you know rack & pinion is about $150 for a good refurbished part and about $200 labor. Add the $100 for the timing belt, it would total to $450 max. Knowing a bit about cars, I realized he is full of crap, so I took it to another inspection place, paid the full price for reinspection, and guess what, the car passed. There was a little bit of oil splash on the bottom of the car. THAT WAS IT. I still keep that quote and rejection sticker for my records :-D 2- Recently, my colleague and I were driving to go to a job site when we realized the tire pressure light is on. We were passing in front of this place and I knew there is an automatic air pump. So we turned into the mall, to see that the pump is out of order. Naturedly we went in front of the shop and my colleague asked the Hispanic guy (Let's call him Mr. 2) to put some air into the tire. He said we have to wait 20 mins because there is another car on the jack and that there is no other air pump by the bay gate. I saw the pump and the hose, pointed it out to him, said I can put air in it myself if you are busy, and pay whatever (2-3 bucks I assumed). But he got mad and started to insult us. We went into the store and talked to the store owner (although the store owner said they are separate businesses) but eventually, he intervened and we could put air in the tire. Getting ready to leave, Mr. 2 started rambling and saying "you can't come here and order me to do anything, and demand things from me, etc". 3- The next day, I was still upset and thought maybe there was a miscommunication between Mr. 2 and my colleague (giving this place the benefit of all doubts that I could). So I thought I'd give this place a third chance. I drove in (this time I was alone) with my own car, and saw a third gentleman (Mr. 3). I tried to be as respectful as I could. Explained that the automatic pump is broken, asked if he can put some air in my tire, and added that if he is too busy I can do it myself and pay if he can pass me the hose. He said, "You have to wait 20 mins because there is another car on the jack and there is no other pump by the gate". Dude, I used your pump a day before and put air in my tire. This review is for the gas station itself, as i have never had my car repaired there. In short, this gas station sucks. There have been numerous instances where I have gone, in anticipation of getting fuel (and sometimes close to empty) and their systems were down, so they couldn't process debit/credit card payments. Today I went to get gas, and the store was closed and they had some sort of power outage. I highly recommend avoiding this gas station. read more

This was the most frequent gas station/ repair place that I go... Until today. I was driving my fiancé's car and accidentally left the lights on in the parking lot by Sunoco. I went into Sunoco, told them what happened, and asked for help. They said no. They said can you just drive the car over to the station? I said if I could do that I wouldn't be standing here. I asked if I could borrow jump cables. They said are you asking us to loan you tools? I said yea do you have one? They said we do but we don't loan tools. Not cool, really not cool. I will ever be back and if you believe in community& helping others I would suggest you pick another station too! read more

It took me 2-times before I learned my lesson, in my opinion I would say not DO NOT go there. The first time, I took my Honda civic 1997 there because a radiator hose located in upper section (easy-to-reach and replace) of the engine had a leak and the car was overheating. To my surprise they said this basic repair would cost me over $350... being that I was stranded, I decided to go forward and get it repair. The receipt showed part cost $7 and service (~15-min) was over $325! The replaced part was located on the upper section of the engine easily reachable... If I had pliers and the hose I could have replaced it myself. However, I was stuck there and I feel like they took advantage of the situation by overcharging. Second time, I took my Acura TL 2014 (35K miles and still under the manufacturer's warranty) for a simple emissions test. When the test was done I was told it would NOT pass! this an almost new car... On top of that they made the engine warning fail sign to show on the panel! I asked them to reset the car's computer system because the warning was NOT there when I brought the car in. Without any shame they lied straight to my face and said the light was always there! They said they can't do anything about it "EXCEPT" run it through their diagnostics test which will cost me about $100, this is to diagnose a warning THEY made appear on the panel! I took it to the another gas station and they connected to their computer system and found NOTING wrong with the car, the car is running in PERFECT condition. I would not recommend this shop, it appears that they are willing to LIE or do ANYTHING to get money from the customer. My car should have flawlessly passed the inspection and there was no need to pay $100 for their diagnostic test of an error they created. read more

It is a Sunoco station, & has been for over 2 years, I think. We have used them 2x for service on two different vehicles & family members and have been treated VERY poorly on both occasions. The 1st, on my husband's major repair, they changed the price and failed to communicate clearly, and then when trying to discuss the issue, the manager seemed not to care ("well between two different people you talked to": yeah, so communicate with each other so as not to hose your patrons!). The 2nd occasion, my daughter took our other car in for inspection. She returned after the time they said it would be ready, & when she asked about it to let them know she was there, she got YELLED AT very rudely in reply that they were almost done. read more

I knew the reviews were bad so I tend to avoid this place but today I was in a hurry and it was on the way to my destination. I went there for the first time for gas and one pump was missing a pump handle and another was out of order so I had to keep switching and wasted my time even more. Gas is not too expensive but could be cheaper. Went inside to pee and cashier was rude. I roadtrip all the time and never in my life have I ever gone into a gas station and not be able to use the bathroom. Never coming back here again. read more

Hit or miss on repairs, etc. Fine for average to high priced gas. Repairs/Inspections: Had a recent minor repair that went fine, not too too expensive though probably more expensive than other places. Doubt it took the whole hour labor charge they had on the bill..... The current inspector is new. Failed my old car on a wiper blade, a front light and rear shocks. I forgot to fix the blade and the light, however they could have called to offer to fix these minor and not too expensive things. The rear shocks, well first I'd heard and had been previously inspected with not a word from anyone before - no warning that they were going or should be looked at etc. So I do some research - the shop is supposed to do an actual measurement, so when I asked the Inspector what the measurements were - uh huh? So he says, "They're too bouncy, see" and pushes on the back of the car, I gave him a dubious look and he became rude, demanded loudly his inspection fee and get out! So I fixed the light and wiper myself, took it for inspection elsewhere and low and behold, not one word about the shocks! The prior VA Inspector was fair, honest and trustworthy, he'd tell me what needed fixing and fix it for me - if I could afford it, etc. and usually that was fine.... read more

I highly recommend them for car repair and maintenance. Have been using them for two older cars for over a decade. They are the type of guys that seem anxious when they give you an expensive estimate, as if they are a doctor with bad test results to report to a patient. The'll suggest alternatives and explain why things are expensive. They have very low employee turnover, so I always recognize someone in the shop. When people report bad experiences with repairs at dealerships, I always mention "not every repair shop is like that". read more

Have absolutely no integrity. When I asked why the quote was so high, the mechanic became angry and defensive. Too bad.
