Started using this place roughly a year or two ago when a neighborhood gas station/repair shop was sold. At first I was thrilled as the service manager was nice enough and I enjoyed going there. -This past weekend it changed dramatically and NOPE will never go back. Backstory- called roughly 2 weeks ago because my car needed some items done. We agreed that because the parking lot is small, I'd swing the car over to have them look at it so they could order the parts Saturday- stopped in and someone I've never seen before essentially refused to look at my broken mirror. Saying "well I can tell you now you need a new mirror" ironic considering he hadn't step foot from behind the counter. As he was "too busy" LUCKILY A SHOP WASNT "TOO BUSY"- walked out of there vowing to never go back and called another shop in Falls Church. The gentleman said "bring it on by. Happy to look at it" went to that shop and the nice guy not only looked at it but showed me the parts online to order (spoiler I don't need a new mirror) so I could save money from buying through a dealer. He then went as far as to remove the hanging pieces so they wouldn't damage the paint In conclusion- Schmitz managed to lose out on a broken mirror (purchase and replacement) fixing the cable for the gas tank, oil change, emissions and state inspection, and a car wash all because the guy "was too busy" I suggest finding other places that value customers read more

If your tires need air near Spring Hill Road and Route 7 in Tysons Corner, be aware that the Schmitz Exxon Service air pumps do not work well in very cold weather. Yesterday was the second time that I have been unable to fill my car's tires to 35 psi, despite repeated attempts. Rather than trying (and freezing your fingers off), visit the Service area and ask the technician to fill your tires. (Of course, pay him what you would pay the machine.) The technician and the store owners are very nice and helpful. read more

I took my car in for service at the Schmitz's Leesburg location, after I was told ..(by another auto place that my left rear rotors and pads needed replacements..)that my left rear brakes (..pads and rotors..) needed replacements, including the recalibration of my electronic brake mechanism. After waiting about an hour, Schmitz Auto Service told me, no!, my car passed inspection and the rear brakes had 60% wear left on them!!! Initially, I was told (....other place..) would cost over $800.plus!!! I paid $125., saved me tremendous amount of money!!! Don't waste your hard earned money to mechanics who are after your money with bogus charges!!! Love love love Schmitz Auto, treated with respect and they are very competent and skilled at knowing about your car!!!! Recomended by my brother's son, who has had tremendous amount of good work done by Schmitz Auto on both of his cars, saving tons of money!!!!! Just needed a state inspection stat, I was two days overdue (shhhh!) and because of a Yelp review, I came here since I was in the area. Staff was friendly, transaction was easy, in and out in about 20 minutes and there is a little indoor space with chairs to wait. No TV, but a pile of magazines are available. read more

2 lessons at this station - DO NOT BUY GAS HERE, AND IF YOU HAVE TO, ABSOLUTELY DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR WHEN BUYING AT THIS STATION Horrible trip to the Exxon this weekend. Started filling my gas tank, then went inside to buy some drinks. While waiting at the cashier the gas tank's automatic turn off didn't work and gas was gushing out on my car and the ground, like a waterfall. The cashier turned off the tank inside and I ran outside to see $53 worth of gas had been pumped, on normally would cost me $25 max. I went inside and calmly asked for a refund, the Manager came over and said no refunds, because he said there's a sign by the pump saying I'm not allowed to leave the car when it's pumping. He was very unfriendly and rude, said he could only give me a carwash voucher. I went to the carwash and my car DIES, despite being in great condition that morning, the battery gives up in the carwash, blocking the car behind me. I went to find the Manager to ask for help jumping my car and he said "It sounds like you're having a bad day, its not my fault though." He finally helped me and I drove off only to have my car die a few feet later. I finally got it to turn on long enough to get to NTB where they said the gas flooded my engine and that's why it died!!! read more

Advice: have a dealership telling you that you need thousands in car fixes? Come here before you sign off. Due to a Honda recall, I dropped my car off across the street at the Honda dealership. I received a call saying my timing belt was rotted, I had multiple oils leaks, water pump problems, and more! All totaling about $2,900. I promptly called Schmitz's on the recommendation of a coworker and explained the situation. Al assured me that I could bring it by when Honda was done and he would review the quote and give me an honest answer on what my car actually needed. Later that afternoon, I dropped my car off and went over the list with Al. He went out with me to take a look under the hood, kindly showing me that my car doesn't even have a timing belt! The serpentine belt and timing chain were clearly fine. I went back to work and got a call about an hour later with a recommendation on two things to fix now and a couple to keep an eye out on over the next two years. It was fixed by the end of the day. He could have taken Honda's quote and said yep that is all true and charged me just a little less. But instead Al took the time to show and explain, thoroughly "diagnose" my car, and handle it all in a couple of hours. By the way, it cost me less than $500. They were great at fixing the problem in my Ford Explorer in a quick time. They might charger little bit higher than other mechanics around, worth the price as the service is very reliable. We should not compromise with our driving safety just to save some dollars. read more

I have been going to this place many times and have recommended this place to many people at my work. I certainly felt disrespected today by the price I had to pay to get my 2010 Nissan Versa brake light replaced. I got played in DC where they put a Mercedes bulb in there for me so it burnt out and these guys had no class today. Not sure if they had a bad day today or if the manager Al was tweeking out over something. Either way $$$28 for a 5 min job on a $3 light bulb is just disrespect. The weather strip (roof trim moulding) came out by the dryer due to the strong air after the car wash on a Sunday. No staffs were available to take a look at that and hence the TigerMart associate asked me to come on a weekday. When I went and explained what happened to my car, one of their staff was not even ready to hear and cut me immediately that it's not their fault and their machines will never cause such things and looked at me as I am a liar. I was basically expecting them just to glue the weather strip as a courtesy and after that I realized that I would have done that by myself with a few $$ glue from Walmart. (My windshield was cracked lateron as I left that unfixed for few days or when tried pressing it back. I very much appreciated the friendly service today, adding air pressure to my right front tire. Their outside air machine wasn't working, so I went to the front desk and the service desk personnel directed me to the shop exit. In less than 30 seconds, a mechanic appear with a high-tech air gauge and filled the tire right away. No charge! The way I abuse my cars make the Toyota engineers weep at night and suffer from PTSD. My last car was a Corolla, and it received only 13 oil changes in the 11 years I owned it. The car before that was a Toyota mini-van (originally my parents' for 10 years) that I drove for 5 years without a single oil change (I didn't realize that it needed it...wasn't that what gas was for...? I mean, it both comes from the same source, right???). So imagine my dismay that after two blissful, oil-change free, years with my Camry, this morning - the day after Xmas - as I'm driving into work...the oil light comes on! Of course, as I never actually *LOOK* at the control panel on my car, it could have been lit for several days (or even weeks, for that matter). As today promises to be a long and boring day at work, I casually email my husband about the oddness of having the little oil light come on. Obviously, as I am writing a review about a gas station - that he impressed upon me *QUITE* firmly that I must get to a service station immediately, and have them put a quart of oil in, before I attempted to drive anywhere else (he's such an alarmist, but his concern is so cute!). This Exxon station is right down the street from my work, so during lunch, I visited them in hopes they could help me. Once the mechanics finished gasping in horror over the condition of my car - they promptly grabbed two cans of oil (I think it was 5W-10 or something), and poured it into my Camry's poor suffering engine. They didn't lecture (although I did get some hurt glares), and they didn't charge me a service fee or anything for doing this for me...just the cost of those two bottles of oil ($6.38 total)! What wonderfully sweet guys! The garage was also remarkably clean (I had on a brand new pair of suede heels - and not a spot of grease anywhere on them!). I was out of there in less then 10 minutes! Hurrah for Schmitz Exxon! P.S. I suppose this could also be a 5-star review for Toyota vehicles. Evidently, the most low-maintenance cars you can get...! read more

This is for the body shop - I've been coming here for years and only trust them. I will preface it with I really don't know a single thing about cars, which is why I'm even more weary about body shops because of the horror stories where places price gouge esp to unsuspecting customers. Everyone here has been upfront about what I need. What sealed the deal was recently my car's hood started smoking and the water temperature warning sign went off. I had to pull off to a neighboring body shop in herndon. I really wanted to continue driving to tysons to schmitz but did not feel safe doing so. The shop I stopped at found a radiator crack and quoted me $265 for the part and then said okay your total after everything is $1350!! (supposedly labor, shop fees, taxes). I probably called schmitz 4x that day asking for their opinion and they were patient, explained just to bring it in and take a look at it and so I decided to just tow my car from that body shop to schmitz and get a second opinion. They quoted similar price for the part and then after labor was basically half that cost! They are honest and won't price gouge and will take great care of your car!!! absolutely recommend and I won't be going anywhere else! read more

Conveniently located for gas and probably fine for oil changes. My car had a bit of a repair emergency and the shop was pretty close to my office, so I was happy to give it a try. Al told me it would take a day to get the part and then possibly one more day to do the repair. I rented a car because I need something to drive. I called on a Saturday afternoon fully expecting my car to be ready to go and was told it wouldn't be done until Monday. They knew I was renting. That meant TWO extra days of car rental for me! And I should not have had to call them. My car was done on Monday and it worked, so I guess that's something. When my car was ready they also told me that my ignition coil would need replacing soon, and that I should take care of that before it damages something else. The following weekend I took my car to another repair shop - one certified for my type of car. They told me that the ignition coil was solid state and that it either works or doesn't, there is no "needs replacing because it's going to go soon." They said the wires may be a little corroded, but that's fixed by cleaning the wires, not replacing the ignition coil. They even quoted me a better price if I was going to replace it. I should have gone to the other shop in the first place. But, hey, my car works. Jeremy was nice to talk to, but Al was handling my car. Maybe Jeremy would have been better? Overall, I've experienced better. read more

Terrible, brushless car wash system!! It costs $12.00 for their " the whole work" car wash, but it cleans practically nothing. What a waste of money! Schmitz is within walking distance of my office so before dropping my car off, I called to check and see if they had time to do an emissions check. (Highly recommend calling ahead- it's a pretty busy shop). They said that if I drop it off, they could have it done by the end of the day. I dropped off my car right before heading into work (9am-ish) and it was finished around 11am. Huzzah! As for an oil change and other minor repairs, not sure I'd go here. While waiting in line, I couldn't help but overhear a customer ahead of me gripe at the list of things the mechanic "highly recommended he should take care of... that day". I have a mechanic who lets me know what honestly needs to be done and the approximate timeline and never pressures me. I got the high-pressure/ get- this- done- now- or- else vibe from Schmitz so I'll probably avoid it for oil changes and the like. I hear they have a shuttle service that will drop you off if you're within a very slim radius of their operations but I haven't taken advantage... nor do I know this for sure. Overall, Schmitz is convenient as the day is long but you might want to stick with your trusty mechanic for minor (and major) repairs. read more

Ah, the business that pulled me out of my Yelp sabbatical. (Cut me some slack, I was planning a wedding). My car needed an oil change and I'm always a bit wary of being female and getting ripped off. Let me clarify- I'm wary of getting ripped off, I've come to terms with being female. This place is close to work, and after browsing the other reviews decided to give them a call. They couldn't take me that day, but offered a 7:30am appointment the next day. I got in, read their copy of the Post in their waiting section and was out by 7:55am. The people there are super courteous and nice- none of that upselling-show-me-my-dirty-filter-crap-that-I-can-fix-myself-with-Amazon-and-a-youtube-video. I was advised to get new tires before winter, thanks to all the city driving, and probably due to the fact that the guy I bought my car from never did any maintenance. Total came in a smidge under $40. read more

My car has been having trouble starting for about a month. I took it to a repair shop near my house in Mt. Pleasant and they told me that I needed a new starter, so, we forked over $375. A day later, it wouldn't start again. We took it back 3 times. THen we called the dealership (KOONS in Tysons Corner, they SUCK!) who said (rudely, I might add) they won't even look at it for less than $109. On a friend's recommendation, I called Schmitz Exxon on Leesburg Pike. They were super friendly and only charged me $50. They found that there was just a bad connection with the starter wiring. I had an expensive repair to do that was quoted between $600-700 at a couple of places in the area. I called Schmitz because it was close to work and convenient to leave my car there while I was at work. A few people mentioned that it was a pain to replace the part but Phil at Schmitz said they could get it done that same day. I dropped it off around 7:45am and got a couple of calls from Phil keeping me in the loop as to the price of the part and the time it would take. He quoted me a ballpark figure and I said to go ahead and do it. About 1pm I got a call back from Phil saying my car was ready (only took a few hours) and he was able to get a better deal on the part so it ended up costing me almost $100 less than the last figure he gave me. Great service, very fast, reliable and I'll definitely be back for any future work I need done since I'm way to lazy and impatient to do most of it myself. read more

You always need a reliable mechanic for all your car needs, and especially as a woman, you want a shop that will be straightforward with their services while treating you with respect. The people at Schmitz are all that and then some. They were always honest with finding any problems with my car and were always the most reasonable in price for any repairs I need to get done. This place has become my husband's go-to place for car repairs (and even MY go-to place if I need repairs done on my car while the hubs takes me on errands in the neighborhood). It's definitely reassuring there's still reliable auto mechanics around nowadays. Normally my experience with repair shops is like the stereotypical movie scene that takes place in the desert with a auto repair man that demands 400 dollars for a minor repair. With Schmitz it is nothing like that. No arguing of the price they were reasonable in their pricing. They provided non-pressured advice on parts and tell you the trade offs of each. I asked for them to match a nearby repair shops offer and they matched and went below. I also asked about a coupon that I found the day before I brought the car in and they honored that coupon when they didn't have to since I couldn't find it. I have had my car serviced twice here once for a melted air conditioner power resistor and brake pad replacement. Both times they have exceeded my expectations. If you need your car to have maintenance and have some repairs done this is the place to go in Tysons area. read more

Great one stop auto sanctuary!! And..keeps me sane. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! And, highly recommend it! I hate car problems - anything to do with a car..I do not want to deal with it. I do not want to think about it. I don't know much about a car other than the design aspect of a car - and I am pretty sure there are a lot of girls who could relate to me. And, there are scumbags in many auto repair/service places where people rip you off! NOT HERE. I have been going to this place to get the oil changed, put gas in, do car wash, change batteries, and getting inspections.. And, every single time - I have been mega satisfied with their service! In the diagnostic process, they called me to let me know what cause the problem and asked my permission to work on the car and install parts. As a young, single woman I am a pretty easy target for being taken advantage of when it comes to car repairs. I always feel comfortable bringing my car to Schmitz because they explain every cost and have unparalleled customer service. I am usually just in for an oil change, but the last time I took my car in it required a service they cannot perform. The staff explained everything I need to know before taking it to the dealership (so I don't overpay there) and even reduced my bill due to the inconvenience of having to take it to two places. I work nearby, but even if I didn't I would still come here. One last plus... They are only open until 6pm, but you can still pick up your keys in the convenient store which is great for when you have to work late! read more
