This was a wonderful discovery. I thought I should not go to a car service place in McLean, because the overhead costs would make my whole bill more expensive. I shopped around (maryland, falls church and Alexandria) for prices to fix a bad noise in my car that was making me nervous -it turns out it was the wheel bearing needed to be replaced. All places gave me an estimate over $300 including Schmitz, at first. But I felt their service and price were still better than the others, so I decided to fix my car here. When the car was ready they told me that the part fir my car in particular was cheaper than they estimated and they saved me almost $100. Especially because (I hate to admit it) but it is challenging for women to be taken seriously at an automotive repair place... But these guys treated me with respect and earned mine. Okay I've been here 15 minutes and already received estimates on rear brakes and a defective power lock that are half of the dealer estimates! I will not go back to Fairfax Honda! Not to mention that that car dealer's service department recommended that I get a timing belt at 70,000 miles! The guys here said I should not need one until 105,000 miles! It all started on a Wednesday when my brake lamp went out. I went into the gas station and while pumping gas walked over with the burnt light. I was ready to pay close to $10 dollars for the bulb since that's what Jiffy Lube charged me once. Al not only had the exact bulb I needed within 1 minute but he didn't even charge me for it. Two days later my alternator bolt broke, I was right by Mr. Tire in Tysons and they charged me $70 and then turned around and said they don't want to work on my car because its a diesel BMW. So without out hesitation and without power steering I drove it to Schmitz. Within 24 hours Al called me and told me there is a recall on this part, and didn't charge me again. I hope I don't jinx myself but I kind of want a service light to come on so that I can take my car to Schmitz to actually have them do some work. I have always noticed the Car Dealerships in the area all bring their cars here, so that can only tell you they musts know what they are doing. I recently took my vehicle there for inspection and emissions tests. They ended up charging me over $1000. They said I had a radiator leak but I never had any coolant on the ground and the vehicle never overheated. They wouldn't pass it until I did all the work. I will never take my car back there again. I always get gas there and use their mini-mart a lot as well. I am going to take all of my business elsewhere. It is very short sighted of them to cheat customers on repairs and inspections. So I went in to get an oil change. I always go to the dealership to get my oil changed but since it was just around the corner for work, I decided to drop my car off. I was shocked to see they charged me twice the price for an oil change. what I usually pay at the dealer (around $35) they ended up charging me 60 something and told me its cause my car needed premium oil!!!!!! OK! The customer service was not that great, I had to call to check up on my car! They would not even give me an estimates on how much my brakes would cost until they saw my car! Which is kinda ridiculous, since every car dealer will give you at least an estimate based on the car you have! I am not going back here again, I rather take my car to the dealer!!! read more

I've been going to Koons Toyota to get my car maintenance and repairs for years. On my 40K maintenance I was told that I have to replace my battery, engine drive belt and adjust my rear brakes which would cost $460. It didn't feel right so I decided to have these 3 things done by Schmitz Exxon because I would save around $150. So, I left my car and 30 mins later I got a call and was told that my battery, engine drive belt and rear brakes are in good condition and it would be dishonest for them to replace them just like that. From now on, I will go with Schmitz Exxon Service and I believe that Koons Toyota has been using scare tactics for years to get customers to replace parts too early. read more

It is a gas station, so no complaints about the gas. The people are friendly and the convenience store portion of the shop is pretty big. My gripe is with the car wash. I've driven up and down the east coast lately and my car was showing the grime. I filled up with fuel and bought the most expensive car wash...and it did nothing but smear the grime around. I did the VA safety inspection and emission test there. It has very wide range of open hours, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. I dropped the car there in 8:30 am and there were several cars in front of me, I told them I would pick up the car later. 2 hour later they called me saying that the car was ready. Acceptable speed. Great Service. I have used Schmitz for oil changes, brake maintenance, exhaust work and other service for multiple cars for over 10 years. Reliable service and good rates. Shuttle service is very convenient for tysons area. They have provided good advice and if they can't handle it they let me know and I would take to dealer. Always honored appointment times and provided feedback by lunchtime. Al and Jeremy have been outstanding. Nice to deal with people that are always professional and communicate well. Car Wash works well too, check for 50 % off coupons for car wash on internet. Shame to see what fairfax county and metro did to their little corner in tysons. You have to come in from the east side of rt 7 because of new intersection. Wish fairfax could have provided better support for a local business during this construction and after, one that has been in business for over 50 years I think. read more

I had been going to Koons Tysons (will never go there again, talk about being hosed) and I found out about this Service Department through word of mouth. The recommendations could not have been accurate enough - these people are AMAZING!!!! Phil is just such a doll, he's the service manager, he actually looks out for your best interest and tells you what you DON'T NEED which is a change from a dealer who makes up things to get money from you...I know, my fault as I should have known better - but if you are looking for a mechanic....PLEASE GO SEE THESE GUYS!!! they are not only awesome, but friendly, consultative, approachable and just all phenomenal. I am very disappointed with my car wash. My car was in need of a good cleaning, so I paid for their $10 deluxe wash. It didn't even fully clean any portion of my car. I definitely won't be paying for another one. The water system is too low pressure to do any good. read more

While I think that Schmitz does quality work, I won't be going back. I took my car in for an inspection and was quoted around $1000 for the repairs that were necessary. I ended up having them done elsewhere at a huge savings. The parts costs was only about $100. They also were overcharging for the labor. Hard to explain on yelp, but they wanted to charge additional labor costs for removal and replacement of a part that had to be removed as part of one of the other repairs. They are very convenient, but the convenience isn't worth it to me. read more

I took my car in about a year ago great service with complimentary transport to oakton less than 5 miles oneway, had driven in for a scheduled maint old needed to make an appt as it was sat called later made appt, got there with my 7 yr old daughter 1 the chap at desk had no idea i had called in or an appt, 2 when i asked for a complimentary ride once heard oakton said we do not go there even though I told him i had drop off and pick up from them before. Great service once again. I had a tire leaking air pretty bad. I was able to get a quick appointment next day. My car was jacked and checked immediately. The mechanic Freddie found a nail in my tire, and plugged it for $20. Best part, nobody tried to up sell me anything, or waste my time. read more

DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE! We have visited them a few times for services and repairs, thinking that they have done a good job. But we were deceived! This weekend our car broke down due to a part that broke down which SUPPOSEDLY was serviced by Schmitz. We had to get our car towed a very long distance and rent a car for a week while we had it fixed with another service center. The other service center confirmed without doubt that the servicing work had never been done, else this part would not have failed. We approached Schmitz about this, who were not accommodating at all saying "we would never charge you for work we didn't do". They were not even willing to discuss it with the other repair shop, merely throwing there hands in the air with apathy. We are really disappointed by this response, especially as they were recommended to us by friends. Their response was that there was obviously something wrong with the part, that's why they "did some of the work", none of which was ever pointed out to us. We definitely do not trust them at all now, confirmed by the fact that we had the car with them 3 more times since the alleged "service" and nothing was pointed out to us. Al Treadway (treadway, holy moley as in tire treads, couldn't have a more perfect name for the job) is above and beyond any mechanic I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. He has pampered my old "new" beetle to death, everytime I fear my car is on its last gasp, Al reassures me it will be okay. He has never tried to sell me something I didn't really need. My ABS light stays on now, and he said that expensive fix wasn't needed because my brakes still work. He and the rest of the crew are careful with my beloved car, and I couldn't be more impressed. I've been coming to Schmitz for about six years now, and I'll keep coming there til either my car dies or I do! lol. Worthy note: Jeremy is great to talk to and has a fabulous attitude. I have a Lexus that was in desperate need of an oil change and being a broke college student I was one of the first to jump on the LivingSocial deal that this place offered. In short, $39 for 3 complete oil changes, 2 tire rotations, a/c test, engine check, and a few other discounts here and there...I know right?! Can you say...Jackpot!!! The punch card that I purchased was mailed to me in a very timely manner. When I called last minute to schedule an appointment to get my car serviced, the guy who picked up was very polite and courteous and the employees treated me in that same manner when I arrived in person. When I asked for a time estimate of when the service would be done, the guy told me roughly 30 minutes. 30 minutes it was. I was out of the door in no time and was not late for my appointment. Other questions regarding oil change and car services that were asked during my visit were also answered well and thoroughly. Will definitely be back once I hit my next 5,000 miles! (Side note: Now I don't really know if, by being so speedy, they actually did a thorough job since I don't know anything about cars but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt....because that's what happen when you treat customers right, right? Sometimes they're booked up and I have to wait a day or two to schedule an appointment. Price is always a consideration but I've found them competitive with other auto repair shops that I trust. If I could give these guys 10 stars I would! Good, honest place with great customer service. I've been going here since April 2014 when Jerry's Ford told me I should just scrap my car since it would cost between $4k-$7k...was feeling nauseous because I didn't want a car note. A friend recommended Schmitz and I figured I would get a second opinion because really...what did I have to lose. They fixed my baby for 500 bucks total! Brought my baby to them yesterday and really was pressed for time because I needed to be in Bethesda at 4pm. I dropped her off at 9am and I got the call she was ready at 1:43pm. Jeremy is AWESOME and although he made it known they couldn't promise a time and said it would probably be closer to 3pm they exceeded my expectations. And I give him kudos because I know I was nagging a bit about the time but he never showed his annoyance. The great thing is that when he gave me my total I never felt the need to scrutinize the bill, ask questions about certain charges or anything because I know at Schmitz I don't have that issue. I do not care that it isn't exactly convenient to come out here from Alexandria, I'm coming - even for routine oil changes. Peace of mind is PRICELESS. I know that in their hands I don't have to worry about one single thing or if they are trying to milk me for every penny I have. I went to this station based on its 5 star yelp reviews and its participation in groupon's $33 for 3 oil changes deal. I agree with the 5 stars for efficiency and service. The service manager AL made it happen for me. I purchased the groupon deal on the spot while inside the station and while normally u would have to wait for the punchcard to be mailed, he let me use my first oil change right away by just showing him the purchased voucher. He also said my gf who owns the car i drove in with could use the punchcard which i purchased under my name. So as long as the person has that punchcard and its the same car then its alright to use the voucher. Vouchers can also be shared by members within a family. Since my gf has an accord, i paid zero. If u have a lexus, expect maybe some premium charges but not at all that much either just a few bucks extra. I was in at 815am and out 844am. Spectacular job and service. 5 stars. I was in dire need of an oil change for my Mini Cooper and wanted to knock it out after work in Tysons, so I did a search on Yelp. This location came up with mostly rave reviews so I called to see if I could bring my car in the same evening for a Full Synthetic Oil change. They initially seemed concerned about the time frame but quickly said I could come in that evening. I was given a quote of $80 which is slightly lower than other places I have been. I arrived about 5 mins early and was happy when they started right away. The staff was very polite (even chatty) and efficient. My oil change was done in record time and they even charged me less than quoted. Same day oil change for $76, in under and hour,,, no complaints here :-) read more

Needed an inspection, walk-in, 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. Schmitz took care of me and had me out in less than 30min. 2000 vehicle with 95k miles, reasonable wear and tear, and only needed a wiper blade. I take care of my car, so I didn't expect anything to need repairing. Still, lots of places use the annual VA safety inspection to create business by finding reasons to fail a car. It is much easier for them to do this on older vehicles. Not Schmitz. Honest mechanics are hard to find. Schmitz took care of me so I will give them my business. read more

It's incredibly hard to figure out if you can trust a car mechanic, particularly if you don't know a whole lot about cars. I am profoundly grateful to have found this place. The word Honest is an understatement. I came across Schmitz via Yelp review 30K miles ago, and I've never looked back. The reviews were as solid then as they are now, and it's because they provide great service with full, down-to-earth explanations of what issues there may be with your car, then follow up with honest and helpful advice. Phil is my go to guy, because he always explains any issues he finds in ways I can understand, and then discusses the options on whether I really ought to do something, if something can wait, etc. He's not trying to sell me on anything- he just tells me what could use fixing, the severity of it, and how much it costs, then lets me make informed decisions with no pressure. A little over a year ago I took my car in because of a warning light and found out it was the catalytic converter. A normal mechanic could have just taken my money, but Phil informed me that federal law requires an 80K mile warranty on catalytic converters, and my dealer would be obligated to replace it for free. It saved me hundreds of dollars. The peace of mind I have when dropping my car off at Schmitz that the work will be done right and I'm not going to be ripped off is a wonderful thing. I've been going to Schmitz since 2007 when I got a job in the Tysons Corner area. I go there to get my oil changed and for just about anything else that is considered basic car maintenance. And wow, what can I say, they do an AAAAAAMMMMAAAAAZZZIIINNNNNGGGG job everytime. They are always super friendly, knowledgeable, and my experiences with them have been unimaginable (in a good way), especially, in this age of "you are just another Debit/Credit card to take advantage of". They have a shuttle service, which is great; I seldom use it since I basically work across the street. Now, here's the reason they earned their five-star rating (I don't like giving 5 stars for just anything): Small details that I would pay for to get taken care of, they have done these at no additional charge or hassle, in fact, the opposite can be said. For instance: 1) My tires needed changing (I knew this), they didn't pressure me to buy from them after they had finished doing my oil-change; they just alerted me to it. I looked around (and by around, I mean, I performed a dragnet of tire places within a 25 mile radius; I even searched the online discount tire-sites) but before pulling the trigger, I called them to get their quote, to my surprise the same tires quoted elsewhere were a few bucks cheaper than the next lowest priced quote. And they didn't give me a price that excluded all other related costs. Right off the bat, they gave me the "drive-away from the service center" price, which I found to be so transparent, convenient and easing; not words I would typically use when writing a review about a vehicle service center. Also, they beat their quote price by about five dollars (AWESOME, considering every other experience I have had with service centers, "Quote" has usually meant add 'at least' $20). 2) Somehow I was missing a valve stem cap, I called them about it and they told me to stop by, so I did. I then asked, "How much do I owe you?" The guy shook his head and said "don't worry about it". 3) I needed an oil change, badly, or so said my car (annoyingly), ME: "Hey, I need an oil change done but I have completely forgotten to setup an appointment" Schmitz: "No worries, we're super busy but bring it over and we'll shuttle you to work, we'll try to fit it in by the end of the day, and if we can't fit it in today, just bring it in early tomorrow and we can try again"; they were able to take care of it by the end of the day; and yes, I would have paid extra so that my car would shut-up about needing an oil-change. 4) When I wanted to take care of my emissions test ahead of time (instead of waiting until the end of the month...this is something I am notorious for) I dropped it off and they said they would try to fit me in before the day was done. They knew who I was, where I worked...and that I wasn't some high level exec to befriend, so as to be invited to future cocktail parties; they just knew me as a loyal customer and told me that they would call me when it was ready to be picked up. 5) My serpentine belt were screaming bloody murder each time I started the car, so when I dropped it off to get it serviced, I told them I thought they needed to be replaced. Within the hour they called to tell me, "Joe, the belts look okay, you just need to get them tightened". To which I responded "uhhh, Awesome!". Seriously, I know very little about cars, they could have easily taken advantage of me and my hard earned dollar in the aforementioned instances; instead they've valued my loyalty. I feel blessed to have them as my "go to" service center. Thank you so very much, Schmitz! Schmitz Exxon ranks high in all aspects that I would rate a vendor as well as a car repair shop. My car had the oil light on and I thought it needed other service plus the seat belt/air bag on the passenger side was coming on as something is wrong with it. My request was that they examine everything in the car. Schmitz told me that all I needed for the car was an oil change and the service is not till 60,000 miles. As far as the seat belt/air bag sign, they tested it but could not fix it because of a technical issue that only BMW can repair. Very impressive, honest and professional attitude. I have had only three or four experiences with Schmitz Exxon service, but they've all been great. Their pricing is competitive, they have never recommended service when I didn't need it, and when the dealer recommended a bunch of stuff after a safety recall that followed closely on my 100,000 mile service performed by Schmitz, they were able to tell me what did and didn't need to be taken care of immediately (most of it, saving me almost $2000 for now).
