If you've been in NYC long enough, you'll realize that every Chinese restaurant in NYC always closes down after a couple years and reopens with a new name. There's a restaurant near my workplace that I refer to as "Dragon", simply because I've lost track of what they call themselves anymore. Authentic Szechuan used to be the ole Tofu on 7th... a Park Slope institution. I guess the rent on 7th Av must be getting too expensive, but lucky for me, they chose to relocate just down the street. The menu is divided into 3 categories: 1. Sushi - I have NO idea why they are doing this. Focus on you core competency people! Needless to say... I've never ordered it, and never will. 2. Stock chinese - your general tso, kung pao, sweet and sour ::insert random meat here::. Meh, it's okay... but really not why you oder from this place. 3. The szechuan specials - Now this is where they win. The ma po tofu... crack. The cold noodles... crack. The pepper pot chicken... the dry cumin lamb... C.R.A.C.K. Honestly, if they just focused on the latter category, they'd do much better for themselves. I'm a fan... regular rotation on my takeout speed dial. read more

This was one of many bad experiences with the same waiter, he took tip from us already than harrassed us as we walked out the door to give him more tip. And another time I had the same guy he kicked out my friend and charged us extra for the food with no apology. They shouldn't let this happen and I am disgraced to be treated like this. My wife and I really dig this place. For neighborhood Szechuan it can't be beat. We like the double cooked pork, mapo tofu, dry pot style chicken, pea shoots, cumin lamb, and sesame noodles. I find that saying you want everything spicy gives you a better, more authentic dish, and it's never so spicy that we can't eat it. (That said, we like spicy food.) We generally shy away from the more Americanized dishes and go for the more typical Szechuan plates. Highly recommended! read more

This place is really legit. I got the pork juicy buns (Xiao Long Bao) and it's really good. It's bigger than the Chinatown ones but the skin is just as thin. I also got the shredded pork with small peppers and mapo tofu. Both dishes came with a choice of white/brown rice each. They didn't charge extra for brown rice which is really nice. Love this place for some affordable simple sushi. They have a 50% off menu which has simple rolls i.e. California, Boston,Philadelphia etc. if you are looking for super fancy rolls this probably is t the place for you. I read that they have excellent hot food and mediocre japanese food, and so I was smart and stuck with their hot dishes. We had spicy dumplings, eggplant, hot and sour soup, and beef fried rice. everything was outstanding. I asked for extra egg in the beef friend rice, and i asked for spicy whenever prompted. the hot and sour soup and the spicy eggplant dish were my very favorites. they were piping hot, full of vegetables, and fine details, like unknown tasty mushrooms and bamboo etc etc. eggplant dish is large and full of perfectly stewed chunks of eggplant. very fine. a great choice for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. read more

I have not been to the restaurant but I have ordered delivery from this place. I was craving noodles so I got the stir fried rice noodles with vegetables (I don't eat meat). I have regularly ordered delivery from this restaurant and after my experience tonight, I was repulsed enough to write my first review ever, to caution anyone not to waste their time eating at this establishment unless you enjoy consuming cockroaches with your food. After a few bites of my meal, I spotted a giant cockroach cooked into my dish. When I called the restaurant asking for a refund, they had the audacity to argue with me and tried to send me more food instead of giving me my money back. When I insisted on a refund, they harassed me by phone. Not only is the service horrendous, but this restaurant is unsanitary. Save yourself the time, and nausea and never EVER eat here. read more

I used to love this place when it was Tofu on 7th. Everyone says such wonderful things about the Szechuan menu which I loved when they were on 7th avenue but I went with someone else today who wanted only food off the American menu and it was so so so so so so so incredibly awful. Like worse than bad take out joints awful. I'm either avoiding or sticking to the Szechuan food but it's a shame that the Americanized menu has gone down hill. While I love authentic Chinese food, particularly some numbingly spicy Szechuan, I don't always eat with people who share my affections... This is the review for Chinese takeouts, which I have had twice in the last six months. I have never actually eaten here. Prompt delivery and totally serviceable Chinese and Sichuan food. By no means worth a special journey, but a solid neighbourhood stable. Cheap too, and big portions. And surprisingly good, if you order the right things. All the Sichuan stuff has been good - you will find it listed on the menu as "Chef's Special" or "House Specialties". That menu, though! It's pretty confusing and doesn't list dishes under the names you might normally know them. For example, xiao long bao, normally translated into English as soup dumplings, here go by the mysterious name of "Pork Juicy Pork Bun". I waver between three and four stars. If this were in Chinatown of Flushing, it would be a three, but it almost deserves an extra star for being in this neighbourhood that is pretty bereft of, well, authentic Szechuan food. With the confusing menu I have to settle for three though. A big three! Like a three written on a giant noticeboard. read more

This place provides really decent Chinese food in a neighborhood that is not known for Asian cuisine. I dropped in on a weekday afternoon with a friend for lunch. The AC was very comfortable and the half Chinese-half Japanese interior design was interesting to look at. There were a bunch of staff hand crafting dumplings in one corner of the room, which really adds to the authenticity of the place. Their good mood helped lift up the emptiness of the place. We ordered two lunch specials-Hunan Chicken and Double Cooked Pork, plus a Pork Soup Dumpling to share. The lunch special is $8 each, and comes with a side of soup and rice. It's a great bargain! I am Chinese, and the dishes we ordered tasted very authentic and delicious. The soup dumplings were surprisingly good and tasteful, with just the right about of sweetness to them. I really wanted to like this place. It had good reviews on Seamless and I was hoping for a great spot in the neighborhood where I could get great take-away. The chicken in the General Tsao's was rubbery and the sauce was sweet, one dimensional and tasted jarred. The pepper steak was also low quality meat and uninspired to say the least. It was bad Chinese food. Cheap meat and not properly cooked or flavored. I'm sorry to give a bad review, but I hope you find your Authentic Szechuan roots again... our first meal will be our last with you. :( read more

Was my spot for spicy sechuan but that is now toned down on the spice level and seemed greasier. I also don't like spots that mix up Chinese and sushi together. Pick one and do it right.
