I certainly wouldn't order the Americanized Chinese food here given the opportunity to get some delicious Szechuan meals! My go-to dishes for Szechuan places I haven't tried before are mapo tofu and cumin lamb. While I feel the mapo tofu could have had a little more Szechuan peppercorn (I love the extreme numbing feeling and almost citrusy zing), this was better and less oily than most places. They are generous with the lamb portion (sometimes you get too many onions/peppers!) and the seasoning is spot on. Love that they serve this dish with little bao buns too. read more

Authentic Szechuan is one of my favorite places for takeout. I first ordered delivery from them a few months ago and have ordered about once every 1-2 weeks since then. My favorite dish on the menu is their Chong Qing chicken dish - it's crunchy and spicy, very flavorful and a generous portion (I usually have leftovers for lunch the next day). The dumplings & wontons, the double cooked pork, and bean cud fish filet are all great too. Delivery is prompt and never cold. Highly recommend! read more

I just came back from living in taiwan for a year and this place is easily the best and most authentic Chinese food in all of park slope. Yes, better than Hunan delight. The menu has some American Chinese staples, in addition to some more daring fare, but the part that really soars is the chefs menu. They even have dry pot! I was also so happy that this place is very very vegetarian friendly, offering protein replacement for many of the chefs menu items! I'm a huge fan of their Szechuan dishes but we wanted to try the sushi and we were really surprised at how decent it was. It's deeply discounted on all of the apps, but I figured I'd give the basics a shot and see. We ordered spicy salmon, Alaska and Fancy Tuna and they were all really delicious! The fish was fresh and the avocado was a-plenty. Big, filling rolls and each one was $2.50 or $3.00. Even the spicy salmon was actually salmon and had a nice spicy sauce (vs. the crunch-filled dry stuff you usually see). I absolutely love this restaurant. We order here more often than I would like to admit. We've also eaten here as well and enjoyed that experience thoroughly. I can't speak to the "authenticity" of the food like other people here seem to, but it's definitely not your usual "American Chinese" food. My favorite dish from here is the Minced Pork Mapo Dofu. This dish is almost like a curry served over rice that has so many incredible flavors, it's hard to describe. I love spicy food and this takes it to another level. A key element of Sichuanese cooking is the "Ma La" flavor profile, which roughly means, "Hot / Numbing" spiciness. The "hot" comes from chili peppers and the "numbing" comes from the Sichuan peppercorn. These, combined with the aromatics and other spices, makes for one of my most favorite dishes. I've also had the stir-fried string beans and eggplant in garlic sauce, both dishes I've enjoyed while in China, and they are absolutely delicious. My fiancee often orders the Vegetarian General Tso's chicken and finds it to be somewhat disappointing. This makes me wonder why she continues to order it, but I guess that's up to her. Paradoxically, she seems to love the place as much as I do but tends not to really enjoy this particular dish. So, I'd just like to point out that while this place does offer the "Americanized" fare, it isn't their focus or even really their strong point. On first glance, the menu posted on the window seems to offer up your general variety of American Chinese food, i.e. Orange Chicken and Beef with Broccoli. However this is a true hidden gem of Park Slope. The menu are divided into "Americanized Chinese Food" and "Authentic Chinese Food", and on the "Authentic" side, there are some really amazing stuff. I had the Authentic Sichuan Fish Fillet and Beef Cumin Style. The cumin style beef (or lamb -- more traditional) is really good and we had it with some steamed flat buns. The fish fillet is the best, you can have it really spicy but I opt for a non spicy version. It's the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. I will come back to have it again :P read more

Standard Chinese food. I got the orange chicken and white rice, along with an Eggroll and edamame. The Orange chicken tasted fine, however I did find that there was not much included in the order. Awesomely delicious food. I have eaten at fancy shmancy places who claim they cook, and serve the best Chinese food- they don't compare to this place. I had the lunch special home style tofu, there wasn't much tofu but I kept coming across these delicious floppy mushrooms. I don't know the name, but they were just enchanting. My husband took his lunch to go which was the double cooked pork, he texted me from work saying that he loved it. And asked me where I ordered from. The chicken was decent quality, some weird pieces, but probably fewer than other Chinese takeout. They have white rice, brown rice, and fried rice, although I ordered brown and got white. The hot and sour soup is okay, but not very flavorful or very full of tofu or much else. The steamed shrimp shumai is fine, although I think the sauce is just soy sauce, which is pretty boring, and not the best sauce I've had with shumai. There are a few bike racks outside. The staff is friendly in person and ok the phone. Food is ready pretty quickly when you call on an order, 10-15 minutes. There's a bunch of seating, including nice high booths. read more

They deserve five stars for even genuinely trying. Ox tongue and tripe? It's on the menu. And it is good. Dry pot? It is here and I am waiting for my order to arrive because they make it so well, it reminds me of my trips to China. They can't use some ingredients because they are banned in this country, but they are trying to recreate the authentic experience. Kudos. Having just moved to the area, decided to try and find a new staple Chinese delivery place. Unfortunately, Authentic Szechuan won't be it. Specifically requested napkins and chopsticks/forks as I had just moved earlier in the day and hadn't unpacked any of my kitchen items yet. None were included. The delivery guy called me when he arrived and asked me to meet him downstairs. I told him I would come down in a minute at which point he hung up on me and then proceeded to buzz my door and ran upstairs to give me the food. I love coming here. I usually do takeout but I've also eaten in and both options are great. The workers are all very friendly, especially the woman at the front, and the food is fast and good. Not every dish is amazing but they are all good, solid choices and some of their dishes really are the best for the price in the area. My Park Slope favorite for its spicy, herby, or lamby/fishy "House Specialties" and "Chef's Special" dishes like fish-filet casseroles with chili or wild-pepper sauce, tea-smoked duck, triple-pepper chicken, or stir-fries cooked dry-pot or cumin style. Pork/crab juicy buns much improved lately: Still big and doughy, but closer to classic xiao long bao. Dining-in entree quality is superior to takeout. But I'd get their takeout much more often if they moved back uphill, as when they were Tofu on 7th. ASK FOR UTENSILS/NAPKINS when picking up or they'll be routinely left out, saving the environment but making your feast in the park very awkward. read more

Was closing time in park slope so I stop by here. I knew where I was so price was gonna be a bit higher. Ordered general tso shrimp, and a Shrimp roll. The general tso shrimp was the best I tasted so far. I was expecting large shrimp, they use jumbo, almost prawn size, and fresh. Wasnt too much batter, just enough to soak up the sauce. And the sauce was delish. I even bit into a piece of cinnamon. The shrimp roll was ok, kinda salty. Posted this after eating so didn't want to take a pic of one lonely shrimp. *SPOILER ALERT* I'm just gonna come right out and say it; this is the best Chinese food in Park Slope. I was initially confused by this place. It used to be Shamisen, a Japanese/Sushi restaurant. Then the signage abruptly appeared claiming "Authentic Szechuan - Chinese & Japanese Cuisine." Huh? I wasn't sure if they partnered with Shamisen and rebranded or what. As it turns out, the owners of Tofu on 7th took this place over and are allegedly going to close their other location. So, this is effectively now Tofu on 5th, Authentic Szechuan, or whatever you want to call it. The important thing is, the food is great! I am a sucker for classic, spicy Szechuan food, so it thrills me to no end that this place opened up shop right around the corner from me. I have only done takeout, so can't comment on the décor, ambiance or service, but most people I know don't go to Chinese restaurants for any of those things, anyway. Everything I've tried has been excellent, from authentic dishes to Americanized classics. These are the items I've sampled (I need to specifically call out the first two): - Spicy Dan Dan Noodles: The Szechuan classic. They're hot and mouth-numbing, just as you'd expect, and the portion is HUGE. On the menu, it's called Spicy Noodle w/ Minced (Pork). - Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings): !!! You read that right, folks. They serve them here, and frankly, they are quite good. I'm not talking Chinatown or Flushing good necessarily, but for Park Slope, they are killer. On the menu, they're called juicy buns or something like that. Get them. - Mapo Tofu - Chong Qing Spicy Chicken - Steamed Dumplings - Ginger Chicken - Chicken w/ Black Bean Sauce - Pork Chow Fun That's a lot of different things to try, and they were all good. Seriously, if you like Chinese (and specifically Szechuan style) food, you must check this place out. It's unfortunate that the only other review so far was so abysmal, I don't think it's reflective of what this place's strong suit is. If you want sushi, I would go to an established place in the area that specializes in it. If you want kick-ass Chinese food, look no further. read more

There's a restaurant near my workplace that I refer to as "Dragon", simply because I've lost track of what they call themselves anymore. Authentic Szechuan used to be the ole Tofu on 7th... a Park Slope institution. I guess the rent on 7th Av must be getting too expensive, but lucky for me, they chose to relocate just down the street. The menu is divided into 3 categories: 1. Sushi - I have NO idea why they are doing this. Focus on you core competency people! Needless to say... I've never ordered it, and never will. 2. Stock chinese - your general tso, kung pao, sweet and sour ::insert random meat here::. Meh, it's okay... but really not why you oder from this place. 3. The szechuan specials - Now this is where they win. The ma po tofu... crack. The cold noodles... crack. The pepper pot chicken... the dry cumin lamb... C.R.A.C.K.
