I just pulled up Apple Maps and searched for food nearby and Shan popped up. We were actually in the mood for some Asian cuisine so when we saw "Szechuan cuisine" in the description we knew we had to give it a shot. As soon as you walk in, your attention is pulled to the elegant cocktail bar and beautiful mural of a mountain behind it; I loved the vibe of the place. I ordered the pork dumplings in chili oil to start followed by Chungking Spicy Chicken and they were both delicious. The portion for the chicken was also quite shareable; I ended up needing help from the rest of the group to finish it . Also keep in mind this is an authentic Szechuan restaurant; when they say something is spicy, it's spicy! Luckily they have some refreshing options for dessert that feel quite soothing after all the spice. Not only was the food delicious but the hospitality was exceptional as well. For example, the staff was always smiling and quite attentive. If a glass of water was almost empty they would refill it without the need to ask. When I accidentally dropped my chopsticks they immediately picked them up and replaced them. All in all I had a great time and highly recommend this spot, definitely coming back!!

My friend had been here before and wanted to come again for her birthday. She made a reservation swiftly, and even though we were on time for our reservation, we still had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table when we arrived. The lobby was buzzing with people waiting to get seated. It was a little more peaceful in the dining room, with a small chatter. However, it progressively got louder during dinner, and I hate having to talk over other people to be heard, so I gave up on conversing during the meal. But that's fine since my mouth was busy enjoying all the good food. Dan dan noodles $14 : 5/5 stars I was disappointed by the small portions and the overall appearance, and while yes, it is small, don't judge a book by its appearance. It looks bland and dry but that's far from the truth. It was flavorful with a strong kick of spice and plenty of sauce. I would 100% get this again. Cucumber salad $14 : 5/5 stars $14 for just cucumbers is kind of absurd but I can't deny that it was delicious. Every restaurant does cucumber salad a little differently, and the ones at Antidote are coated in this creamy green sauce that made the app so hard to stop munching on. Not sure if I would get this again because of the price. Shredded duck fried rice $18 : 2.5/5 stars Honestly the pricing is really weird to me because what do you mean a cucumber salad is only $4 cheaper than a whole entree with protein? Anyway, I was looking forward to this interesting-sounding fried rice dish, but alas, I was not a fan. The duck was smoked and imparted a smoky taste to the whole dish that I did not enjoy. However, my friends loved it. Chestnut short ribs $30: 4/5 stars The ribs were fall-off-the-bone good but the chestnuts could've been a tad softer. There weren't that many ribs for $30. Youtiao shrimp $20 : 100/5 stars Literally the best item on the menu. It came with some pineapple pieces. It tastes just like the deep fried shrimp with walnuts and mayo at Chinese banquet meals. I truly think about this almost every day since I've had it. I can't wait to have it again.

They are shamelessly dishonest and stubborn. I just moved on to the same block as this restaurant and decided to try them out for lunch today because they were offering a special and I will never go back. They falsely advertised a sushi special and then charged me full price arguing an exception (she said my roll was a special roll and not a regular roll) that wasn't listed anywhere (I double checked and photographed). When I said "You didn't specify regular rolls only." She responded with "you didn't ask" !!!! I couldn't believe she said something that ridiculous and audacious! I tried to explain that if the sign says "50% off sushi and sashimi" and I order sushi or sashimi then why should I have to ask if it's 50% off. The sign already says it is, why should she have to say it again? She actually replies with "what do you want me to do?" (As if it's not common sense) and I said "honor your advertisement and charge me 50% off and you should probably change your sign." She said no and childishly snatched my card as if I was going to try to leave without paying (maybe that's what she would have done in my situation). I tried to explain that this is bad business because since I live less than a block away, the money they would steal from me would be less than they money they would earn from keeping my business, and that of my friends and colleagues. As I was signing my receipt I was continuing to try to get through to her why what they did was wrong and she cut me off by snapping "Thank you!" with an " I'm done talking to you" tone so I turned around and just walked out obviously not saying "You're welcome" because they aren't welcome to rip me off. So she actually continues to say "Thank you??!" repeatedly, louder and more demanding each time like she's trying to continue bullying me. It was so weird. I have not even once in my entire life been treated like that at a restaurant. I wouldn't be quite as surprised to experience something like that by a street vendor in Times Square where they don't have to worry about customers not returning, but I did not expect to find that kind of business ethic in a neighborhood, especially not in Park Slope. I was really disappointed. read more
