Not impressed at all. Rooms are nothing special. It seems like the staff don't really know what is going on. We checked in and went to our room, as we were looking around the room I noticed that garbage and used cups were in one cabinet from the prior guests that stayed there. I also had arranged for an expensive bottle of wine to be delivered to our room before we checked in. It was there and I called down to the front desk to ask if we could enjoy the wine in the bar. They said no. So I bought a bottle of nice wine and we have to drink it in our room...ridiculous. For almost $500 for the room- I would have much rather stayed at the Fairmont. Pretty hotel, but poor service, dirty beds, and restaurants you can't even eat at as a hotel guest because they prioritize non-guest customers. Not sure what we're paying $500/night for. My favorite part was when our bedsheets were dirty, and we called the front desk to ask for new sheets. Sure, they brought us new sheets...and expected us to change them ourselves. Supposedly a 5-star "sophisticated" hotel, with a 5-star price tag - but expect 2-3 star service. read more

Absolutely LOVED our stay at Austin Proper. Everything was very clean, lots of space in the bathroom and the shower was massive. The shampoo and conditioner bottles were all full size which is a plus! We loved the touch lighting and how we could adjust the shades throughout the day. We're Austin locals who stayed the night to celebrate our anniversary and get a change of scenery during COVID. We loved every aspect of our stay! The room was beautiful and felt luxurious with buttons to open/close the curtains, high-end bathroom products, and comfortable beds and robes. We opted for a room with a balcony; we were pleasantly surprised that the balcony had a view of the lake and the pool, and it wrapped around two sides of the room. We enjoyed a few drinks at the bar; the bar staff were pleasant, friendly, and prompt, and the drinks were top notch. We also appreciated the additional precautions the hotel was taking during COVID; we felt very safe, and it was a more relaxing experience knowing that the Austin Proper was doing its part to keep us all healthy. The most special part of our stay was also the least expected, courtesy of Louie, the front desk manager. We mentioned that it was our anniversary, and we were amazed that he sent an anniversary gift to the room to help us celebrate. That extra touch helped us feel very welcome and well-celebrated, and it was so unexpected! Louie even remembered us when we checked out the next day. Louie was very pleasant/friendly, professional, and accommodating at check in and in every subsequent interaction; it was clear that he genuinely cares about guests' experiences at the Austin Proper. Our recent stay at Austin Proper was very disappointing. We had to actually walk all the way over to the Bellman/valet area and ask for assistance with our luggage while they stood there, and saw us struggling to get three large bags out of the car, simple things like holding the door for us was not done. When we got there, they did not have the suite we had reserved on the website. They did end up putting us in a larger suite, but we had to wait for over 20 minutes for the front desk staff to find a manager to remedy the situation. The guest room needed more trash cans (only one tiny bathroom can for the entire Proper suite). The spa was way too small. There were only three seats to wait at before a service, very very crowded space for getting into robe, and the steam room really can only comfortably accommodate one guest. The spa was a disappointing experience. Little things that are important need to be considered, such as hooks outside the shower for hanging a towel or robe on, brushes and other necessities that people will need after a shower, and basic things like cups for mouthwash, cold water bottles accessible in the bathroom/ shower area, hair spray,toothbrush, etc. The spa was probably the worst I've ever been to. We paid somewhere around $1400 for our one nights stay and we will not be visiting this hotel again. The staff here needs to take a few lessons from JW Marriott. read more

So work for the Austin Proper Hotel for 2 weeks my l manager by the name of Samantha Villarreal Hired me and silently fired me because a customer tipped me one dollar and they accused me of taking money out the tip box. to remind you guys that I had money way before I ever started working there and her question to me was how did I make that money are u doing something illegal. Profiling me to the fullest. I told her that it was nun of her business. She had me come to work for two weeks not being on the schedule telling me that she will put in all of my hours. It's been a month and I still have not received my paycheck. She's blocked my number refuses to talk to me or show me or tell me how to get my paycheck. The valet company PMC valet connected with the omni hotel and proper hotel have been nothing but awkward since the first day at work there I felt that as if they kept me separate from the rest of the group while the other workers. She was a big flirt in the beginning but when I revealed that I did not want any relations with her. You should not apply for this job if you're not looking for a relationship. Because if you don't give her what she wants she will fire you silently. read more

This place is an overrated, overpriced ripoff. The lobby is kind of cool, but we couldn't enjoy it because of Covid (not their fault), but the rooms are marginally ok for a hotel billing itself as luxury. One thing that really pissed me off, though, is that even with no valet or bellmen due to the Covid, they had the nerve to charge a $23 "guest amenity fee." For what????? We didn't get any amenities!!!! It's basically a Holiday Inn Express with a higher price tag. Other than, room service that took an hour and a half, there was nothing of any value. We had to park our own car in the poorly organized garage after horrible instructions on where to go and then come in the service elevator and wind our way through the back linoleum lain, fluorescent lit halls like delivery people. I do want to fairly point out that we stayed here at a discount (which was still $276!!!!!), but even with full amenities at the normal $600+ a night for a basic room, this place is a rip-off. There are a lot of options in downtown Austin now. They are all fairly expensive for a mediocre city, but several others offer much more for the money. Very disappointed. Austin has gotten incredibly pretentious, and this hotel is its poster child. read more

It was okay. Convenient location but everything closes after 10:00 even the room service. The electrical settings in the room to operate the shades, air conditioning and lights were halfway functional. The hotel restaurant service was slow even when not busy. If they worked as a team instead of on their tables then the coffee wouldn't take 26 minutes to get. read more

I have stayed at the hotel. I have eaten at the Peacock restaurant and had cocktails in the bar as I work nearby. I have also toured the condos as a prospective buyer and toured the pool, fitness center and meeting space. I really wanted to like this place. I think it will get a little better as it gets legs underneath, but wow, such a huge disappointment. 1. It is the highest price per night in Austin (by a good margin) so you should expect a quality beyond The W, JW, Fairmont, Four Seasons etc. It isn't in the same ballpark. The rooms are fine, not as nice as the photos online and definitely a notch below the others listed. 2. After charging more than $400 per night they then nickel and dime you to death with ridiculous charges. For instance a $23.40 amenities fee. Pool isnt even open so you are effectively paying $23.40 for Wi-Fi. I stay 100+ nights per year in hotels around the world and no one, absolutely no one, charges you for Wi-Fi. They also charge 3.5% surcharge for health insurance for their employees. They should absolutely provide health insurance. They should not tax their guests nightly above their exorbitant room rate. It is a shell game. And $45 for parking...in the garage that they own. This is Austin not Manhattan. 3. Offered a $50 food and beverage credit per night at the room rate but had no reservations available for their guests at the restaurant. So we sat in the bar area. No service for 15 minutes or so until finally someone came to us and comically asked how long we would be there as the bench and stool (yes, a bench and stool) we were sitting on would be reserved at 7pm. It was 530pm. We asked for for a drink menu and she said she wasn't a waiter but would try and find one and dropped a reserved card on the 6 inch table we were crouched around. Apparently she couldn't find a server so I just had to shoehorn my self between two people and order drinks. Upon checkout I didnt receive the $50 credit as she told me it was "buried in the package price." I knew this to be false but with people waiting in line I wasn't going to argue. I ended up calling a couple of hours later just on principle and talked to someone else who said "yeah, we didnt give you the credit, not sure why I will fix it though." So, they will just take advantage of you at checkout and either be intentionally dishonest or incompetent and then stand their ground for fun. 4. So $700 for one night, breakfast, parking, a couple of glasses of wine and lots and lots of fees and charges and then they will argue nonsense at checkout like the nightly food and beverage credit just is buried somewhere in the bill. 5. Bathrooms in the lobby are dirty. Now I am nitpicking but cmon, it was pretty gross. Wife said the same. I think they are just so busy and new...but if you can't keep the bathrooms clean you are missing some basic stuff. 6. The doorman/valet were welcoming and helpful and friendly. My main complaints are the serious lack of value at the price point coupled with the ridiculous application of nebulous fees and lack of concern for their guests. This place looks really great but like a Peacock it is preening and useless. It will get better with time for sure but there are so many better choices in Austin. Avoid. read more

This was our second time staying at this hotel. During both stays, we were greeted by the kind and helpful valet/bell service and front desk person. Customer service was excellent overall. The hotel was beautifully decorated with unique, artistic decor. We enjoyed the boutique hotel experience. The rooms that were were given were spacious and clean. The shades and lights were automated. The control panel is conveniently next to the bedside table. The bed was so comfortable that it was hard to climb out of in the mornings! We loved the Aesop toiletries. The shower was very spacious and clean. The water pressure was great, which is always a plus. The rooms include a walk-in shower in the clean and contemporary bathroom. The furnishings, such as the full-length mirror, armoire, and dresser, complimented the room. It was also nice to have a seating area next to the window and a seating bench against the wall. The rooms had wooden floors, which was a nice touch. We also appreciated how quiet it was in the hallways, but this may have been because there were fewer guests in the hotel overall. We went to the rooftop pool and was pleased to find it clean and not too crowded. We enjoyed drinks and snacks (guacamole, queso, and chips) by the pool. The food was great! There is also a fitness room and spa. The spa was not open yet and we did not feel safe making an appt anyway. We hope to visit it after the COVID pandemic is over. The hotel took great care to follow COVID precautions and we felt safe. There was a bottle of Aesop hand sanitizer all around the hotel and on each table in the pool area. Masks were located both in the lobby and pool area. The hotel staff all wore masks as well. They took our temperature before allowing us to enter. The restaurants seated everyone 6 feet apart and limited the number of guests dining. The atmosphere in the hotel lounge area was trendy and contemporary. The hotel is conveniently located in downtown Austin. We walked to the park, a few stores, other hotels, and restaurants nearby. The hotel is pricier than some hotels in the area but it's also newer. The bar has expensive drinks. The hotel fees definitely add up too. However, it was a great experience overall! read more

The Austin proper Hotel is a very beautiful property! The value for money is not quite there. There's a lot of unexpected charges. Upon arrival they charged us $200 a night for security deposit that took three days to get back onto our card. Joshua the pool host was absolutely wonderful and made our visit so special. read more

Stayed here for 3 nights and I really enjoyed the room and the ambience. Our room was very well appointed. The decor of every part of the boutique hotel was an eclectic mix of vintage and contemporary. The beds and linens are very comfy!! The staff are all very nice. There are amazing cocktails in Goldie's, the sunken bar off the lobby. The gym is spectacular, with both traditional Pilates machines, 4 Pelaton bikes, all new gym equipment, and free weights. Basically everything you need to meet your fitness goals. The hotel is very quiet. We felt like we were the only guests. Maybe we were since they only opened to the public 2 weeks ago. For only being open two weeks they seem to have a working ship with not many hiccups. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend. read more

If you plan to stay here as a guest here's my advice: come for the interior design, don't come for service, hospitality, and common decency as a hotel guest. Expect to follow up on all your calls from room service to the front desk (no one will no what's going on), make a reservation at the lobby and restaurants well ahead of time (they don't prioritize hotel guests at their property restaurants and will claim to enact a 50% capacity when the lobby is 100% full almost every night since we've been here... so much for COVID protocols), don't expect hospitality (does the hotel staff even know what hospitality is?), mattresses, pillows, and sheets are beyond cheap (don't expect a good nights sleep) and remember to use the safety deposit box for all your valuables (duh! $300 sunglasses were stolen). We have one night left here and needless to say, we can't wait to go home. Definitely not a luxury hotel! read more

We were having a great time at the proper hotel for 2 hours, when we went to get our 3rd drink they claimed that they felt uncomfortable serving us because our licenses were not from Texas. We offered to let them scan and give to the manager to check for different states, but they said they didn't have the tools to check. This also happened to the table next to us. Meanwhile there was a 55 year old man groping us slurring words creepily they continued to serve and ignore our concerns who eventually followed us out and we had to alert authority. The manager proceeded to kick us out for being from states outside of Texas. Never in my life have I been confronted with such terrible and rude hostile customer service. They charged our cards and poured our drinks out and discriminated because we were 22 girls while the groping 50 year old blackout men were served (according to them over 30 drinks) I will never be back to this venue and we told half the venue who also left. read more
