Back again this year for the same conference as last year, and I'm glad they chose Downright Austin again. Not sure if I remembered that it's a Marriott property, but I made sure to give my rewards number. Still liked the decor, the hospitality and the convenience, and again noticed no ice machine on my floor and no gift shop. But everything else was great. Especially loved the easy to maneuver thermostat in my room, having a fridge, and the comfortable bed. It was another nice stay. read more

Austin, TX. I mostly have good things to say about Downright Austin, they have the things that are important to me covered pretty well. There are a few things that were disappointing however. THE GOOD: The bed is very comfortable. I didn't care for the huge pillows at first because I'm a flat pillow guy, but these crushed down pretty good and I slept well. The thermostat is easy to operate and doesn't require any advanced techniques to get results. It even offers the choice to turn the heat/cooling off if you wish. The heat/cooling is unusually quiet for a hotel and it is quick to respond. The plumbing is great. The shower is nearly instant hot, and it stays hot with no fluctuations. The drain waste system is perfect. You do not hear any running water in the drains or any toilets flushing in other rooms. We were on the 16th floor so this may not be true on lower floors. The water piping is silent. I did not hear any water flow from neighboring rooms sink, shower, or toilet. Our room was well insulated from noise coming from the next door rooms; one night I did hear the neighbor unlock and open his door. It got my attention because I thought someone was coming in our room. Just bolt the safety latch and forget it. The elevators are fast and responsive. They are unusual for a hotel, Downright exceptional, Water bottles are provided as needed in the room, as well as a large dispenser of ice water in the lobby. No need to go out and purchase a jug. This area of Austin had no homeless and the garage showed no sign of this activity even when it was raining. The staff and housekeeping are all friendly and helpful. The room and bathroom are very clean. The hallway, not always but I don't care. THE OK I CAN LIVE WITH IT: The hotel is next to a freeway. On the 16th floor the noise is not too bad and the blackout shade helps attenuate the sound of traffic. Late at night when things are relatively quiet however high performance cars and motorcycles with modified exhaust can awaken you. As well as emergency vehicles with sirens. The location of the hotel was perfect for us. We walked all over the city, downtown, the Capitol, the Westside, Moody Center, and even South Congress Ave. over the bridge. THE BAD: The parking situation sucks. It adds $50 a night to your once reasonable room cost. The QR code system wastes a lot of time and does not offer much information about your total or when you need to leave. The hotel claims parking is managed by a separate company and they do not have any say in the operation of the garage. The morning coffee bar offers greatly overpriced items such as a Yougurt granola parfait in a small plastic cup for $12. Just go across the street to Jo's for normal pricing. read more

My favorite hotel I visited during SXSW! I have never stayed here, but I loved checking out the music clubhouse, coffee, and daily performances here. I also saw 2 sessions in the ballrooms. The hotel is a bit of a hike from the other hotels downtown (up hill), but is conveniently located to 35 and would be a good place to stay on a trip to Austin. The coffee shop inside quickly became my favorite. The girl working both days I visited was so sweet and moved the line along quickly. I had a latte both days and overnight oats one day and breakfast tacos the other. Prices are the same as everywhere else in Austin - not extra expensive because its a hotel. The big patio is so beautiful and people were enjoying the pool everyday. The employees were all so friendly and helpful here. I would love to do a staycation here! read more

Despite being a Marriott property, this place hasn't seen any modern updates for appears to be decades. It looks like a circa 70s-80s decor... rust colored carpet, olive green desks, "devo" lampshades, pink sinks, fake brick and brown walls in rooms' foyer etc. It's tired, dreary and drab. The air freshener hits hard the second you come into the lobby, trying hard to overcome the "old" smell. Every window, elevator bank and wall has fingerprints, stains or is showing significant signs of wear & tear. Marriott needs a serious investment here. Awful. read more

This hotel is downright amazing. The design is super cute, it smells amazing everywhere, and the rooms were spotless, fully stocked, and crazy comfortable. Bed? Yes. Pro tip: ask for foam pillows, the standard down ones are a hard pass.Stayed over Christmas and the hotel was basically empty. First time in an empty hotel, and honestly? Kinda loved it. Felt like the whole place was mine... but without the weird "don't touch anything" vibes. It was weirdly hot, so I got to use the pool, which is 100% the star of the show.Bonus points: walking distance to Franklin BBQ, a super cute area, and the best bar I've found in Austin so far, Nickel City. DownRight touts their IG-worthy atmostphere, and I'd say there's defintely some spots where that's true throughout the property. There's a lot of pink colors in the property. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I went here for a work trip, and some of my coworkers said they had issues with organization. For example, when you eat at one restaurant in the hotel, the itemized list doesn't specify which place because it lists them all the same. This can make things difficult for those tracking expenses. The pool was renovated but I'm not sure I agree with how they did it. The pool was (and still is) outside, but it used to have a portion that went semi-indoors. They closed off that part of the pool (and hot tub) and just made it a seating area. Meh! Parking is run by a seperate business but onsite, so sometimes there's miscommunication between the two regarding that. The rooms are fine. They include a cute pink robe. But there's no iron, just a steamer. And there's no drawers for longer stays. The dresser has a door with shelves you can use, but because you can't pull out a drawer, it's hard to see in there. Also, I felt the rooms could use a bit more decor. In the entire room, there were only two small pictures on the wall. The wall that the bed was on is the width of the entire room, and that wall was bare. It really could use a nice big piece of art to make the room feel more complete and homey. The hotel is in a good location near the capital area. There's plenty of restaurants in walking distance too. So all in all, while it's not my top place, I was comfortable here for my almost week-long trip! read more

We had a lovely uneventful stay at the Downright! We didn't get to try all the amenities but had no issues with what we were provided including last minute razor and the smoke detector that was beeping in our room when we arrived. We happened to book through Airbnb and the process was seamless. We enjoyed the inclusion of a steamer in our room. However, the poor ventilation (no fan or window) in the bathroom meant that for the 3 nights we were there the towels never dried. We are a more eco conscious travelers and the blasting a/c albeit tis hot in Texas was a bit much for the room. We had to readjust every day. read more

Cute hotel. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The rooms were spacious and clean. I was nervous staying here because it is a pet friendly hotel and I have a severe dander allergy. let's just say I had no issues staying here, so they must have a great cleaning regimen. The decor is minimal but very cute and with pink accents here and there. When we entered the room it was very hot even though the thermostat read a different temperature. I called the front right away and shortly after the issue was fixed. The beds were super comfortable, and I slept great. They have different eating options like Swim Club and Morning Bird. I definitely recommend Morning Bird for a quick and delicious breakfast and/or coffee. The only downside is parking being confusing and $49 a day to self park. You know how you can look at a house on Zillow and it looks great at first glance, but then you realize it's definitely a cheap flip and everything feels just a little bit off? That's what this hotel feels like. They desperately want to be an Instagram spot, and many of the spaces are set up for those influencer photos, but as soon as you pan off the neon light writing, it's just... an industrial-ish space. If they leaned into the pink and green scheme fully, it would work, but instead the rooms are painted in "old avocado" and "stale salmon filet" and everything is just a little wonky or not maintained. Service at the front desk was fine, for what little I needed, but they don't seem to have room service? Or they don't make it obvious, because I could not find a hotel info binder anywhere. Luckily takeout at Swim Club was still fast. I spent time here for a conference, and their catering staff was top notch and made excellent coffee and snacks. Overall, this was a perfectly ok stay, but the place is clearly wanting to be a hip indie hotel while being run by a giant corporation, and it's doing nothing for their vibe. read more

I overall have a positive stay at this hotel. I read a few reviews and couldn't really understand the overall low rating. I think it's a mixture of not agreeing with the vibe mixed with a specific bad experience. If you are looking for a solid price point hotel with options of things you may need like restaurants, pool, and proximity to downtown and no crazy frills then this works very well. If there are specific amenities and aesthetic that you are looking for this probably won't work. My biggest drawback was the outside crew doing car service and greeting; they aren't very good as a unit as a first touch point welcoming a guest. The front desk folks are awesome. In addition, the restaurants are available but with limited options and a bit pricey. Other then that no issues with anything in the room. read more

This was a very cute hotel. The vibes were pink and I loved it. The room was pretty, I liked the vibe-kinda vintage. Bed was clean and comfy. Bathroom door was kinda in the way inside the bathroom but no big deal. Shower was clean. It was a tub not a walk in shower. Room has a small fridge. They have snacks and drinks that will be charged to your room if you eat/drink them. The front desk people were nice. The complimentary breakfast was okay. Their lobby/dining area was really cute. We got to spend the night at the Downright Austin on 3/25. The customer service and genuine friendliness of the staff blew me away! It is a lovely hotel and within walking distance of the Capital, UTexas, and Downtown!!! We walked everywhere!!! The room was clean with a super comfy bed! I realized the next morning that our room was on the other side of the elevators, which surprised me because we didn't hear them at all. The room had a coffee maker, coffee pods, and free water bottles. There is also a quaint coffee shop in the lobby. Wish we had time to visit the Swim Club... next time!!! read more

Worst hotel I have stayed in for some time! I only stayed here because my usual hotel was unavailable! Next time I will not choose this one as an alternative! Arrived and the valet did not move from his post; I grabbed my suitcase, keys and walked up to him and he then asked if I wanted to park? Very odd! If you loved the pale salmon and green colors that are reminiscent of 80s hotels and offices then this is your place! Apparently recently remodeled - it is caught in a time warp! It might be a deliberate attempt to make it a retro Palm Springs vibe but it came across as a cheap remodel on the previously dated Sheraton that it was! Weird staff at valet and front desk - not particularly friendly! Being Marriott Ambassador I would expect a decent room - I don't ever want or need an upgrade on a business trip but when you spend over 23k a year and over 100 nights in a Marriott you don't expect to get a room where the view is completely obscured by a wall ( which was barely visible beyond the dirt ) when they had plenty of other rooms available! Room is more salmon pink ( carpet and walls ) and green! It's trying to be retro but it just looks tacky and old! Sink area is nice, BUT sink did not drain! 20 minutes after brushing my teeth, the water was still slowly draining! Bathroom has odd pink tiles like you would find in a Hospital ward! No cupboard - just a rack and some grey looking towels on a cheap and sad stand in the bathroom! Stains on the carpet added to the ick feel! Walls are PAPER thin! Hope for quiet neighbors so you can get some sleep! On a good note - the blinds are truly black out and despite sitting on I35, you cannot hear the traffic. Aveda toiletries also a nice touch. This is priced like a Renaissance but not on par with the brand! My total cost a night was $365 with valet but not worth it! read more

I was in Austin for a work trip and my company booked a hotel for me. My flight arrived very late so I wasn't able to check in until late and I found out that they double booked my room. The front desk girls called other hotels to find me a new room since they didn't have anymore rooms available that night, but their approach was inefficient and took hours, which resulted in me doing my own research to find an available room close by and I found it within 15 minutes and just booked it under my own credit card since I didn't want to wait anymore. They told me to come back tomorrow as they're only booked out for that night and that I should have a room tomorrow. I went back the next day and they were scrambling to find me a room which took about 15 minutes. They ended up telling me that my company credit card got declined and that they needed a new card. That was a bit confusing as my understanding is that hotels don't charge a card until we check out and typically there's a requirement to put down a credit card for security reasons anyway. Long story short, they ended up giving me someone else's room. I walked into my room and was welcomed to a card to some guys name Lance. The room was nice, but the experience was not worth it. I don't plan to stay here again and I don't recommend this hotel. read more

Enjoyed our time at the Downright Austin. Kenny made our stay so easy. He answered all our questions about the facility and the Austin area. As far as the resort, it was very centrally located to downtown and very near the capitol. Great that not too close to the drama associated with 6th street. We opted for the King room on an upper level. The room was spacious. Enjoyed the shower and the bed was soft. The room contained a fridge which came into handy. Housekeeping did a good job of keeping our room cleaned and the resort overall was clean. If in town, I would stay here for the convenience. Pro: Morningbird restaurant was good. Swim club is best with a bar, pool table. Amenities for grooming are from Aveda. Cons: parking is absolutely too expensive!!! read more

The hotel was cute overall and the stay was not terrible- but holy crud is this place over hyped. We went to the pool restaurant located at the bottom of the hotel. 4 drinks, ceviche, and a sandwich came out for $135. The drinks were about 12oz each ($15 a pop), the ceviche was terrible quality and tiny, and the sandwich was so dry. Service also took forever, I mean 30+ minutes for the drinks to come out when the place was dead. The pool is mediocre at best, and was very dirty. You couldn't see your feet when you were standing in the pool looking down. Rooms were decent but nothing special. Wouldn't come here again unless they greatly reduce prices across the board. read more

Just arrived and the reviews on the valet were spot on - RUDE AS HELL! Arrived with my 78 year old mom and the kid would not get off his phone and would not offer to help get our things. The kid told us $59 for valet or $49 for self park (garage is right there). He let us pull over to unload. My mom got her stuff out and I parked. Thank God the absolute nicest man concierge in the lobby helped my mom while I parked the car. Skip the ride valet and park your car. Tell the kid in pink to get off his phone! read more

Booked rooms days in advance before driving up from Houston to watch the UT game. When arriving at 3pm rooms were not resdy, we waited in the lobby for 1.5hrs, with commitments were told a room would be ready when we got back to the hotel after the game we were told they over booked and had to get a $60 uber to the other hotel at our expense. Another example of corperete greed, mismanagement and lack of accountability to the consumer. There supervisor Jennifer who was obviously unavailable left us a letter with their apologies avoiding the situation. Not a great representation of the UT facility and community. **edit** After calling the hotel three times today I got on the phone with a supervisor and they refunded me, saying they would also ensure correct training for staff so this wouldn't occur again. He was very helpful and kind on the phone! Overall I enjoyed our stay there, everyone was very nice and I liked the vibes and aesthetics of the hotel. But upon check in something felt off. I pre-paid via my credit card travel assistance and rewards, I opted to pay a little extra for breakfast. At check they stated the room was prepaid also I than had to remind the front staff of the breakfast and then we received two vouchers (we needed a third one as we were there for three nights and asked for this the next day). They took my credit card for "incidentals" and that night I had a charge of over $300 on my credit card pending. We asked the front desk about this and they did not see a charge on their end. Unfortunately, for me I then assumed this charge would fall off after check out, it did not. For the last week I have been calling trying to get a refund, I didn't even receive a bill for the charge nor my stay (because I already had a receipt from paying two months prior) and had to connect with Marriot Bonvoy customer service to receive this. The accounting department has very limited hours of 9am-12, with the time difference of where I live it makes it additionally difficult to call when they are "working" but even then I am brought straight to voicemail. Accounting has not called me back for over a week of attempting them. I was given an email for accounting/billing support on the bill and reached out there but it bounced back as the email given was not in service. Their have been a few front desk staff who I have spoken with who have been nice and said they would help to figure this out, but then I don't receive a call or email back. It is highly frustrating and has tainted this entire stay. I just want to receive my refund and do not understand why I am getting the run around on this. read more

Location is great for where we need to be going. But highly Disappointed in the room, NO closet, No dresser or drawers. NO safe. Some odd rack in the vanity area with a bathrobe on it. Which I got creative to make it work but I also tried to not over pack, (as if that's a thing right? LOL The Sink counter is very small. You can't fit anything on it . NO They give you 2 packets for coffee that's a total of 1 sugar in each!?! The only plus I can rave about is the bed is big, comfortable and there is a mini fridge for your leftovers. Other than that I can't give this hotel a great review. Even the front desk personnel didn't have name badges on,,, hmmmm. This is just a review for Morningbird (the cafe in the hotel) I did not stay at the hotel. The people working at Morningbird are so sweet (: talked me through the menu and gave some good recs when I asked. The iced strawberry matcha was very good, strong matcha flavor and not too sweet which I like. Definitely on the pricy side at just under $9 (I got it with oat milk which was an additional charge). The grilled chicken green curry rice bowl was yummy and very filling. I def plan to come back earlier in the day next time yo try their breakfast options. read more

I had originally left a great review when I stayed here back in October, but I'll be revoking that due to the accounting staff here charging me $1200 on my personal card that was placed for incidentals 2 MONTHS post trip. I was here on business and my company had paid for the trip and a week ago (December 2025) I got charged for my entire stay once more. I've tried to get ahold of the hotel multiple times and no one will get back to me. Bless this hotel's heart. Pros: check in was easy and staff was super friendly. Fun vibe in the lobby with plenty of grab and go options. Cons: it's an old, musty hotel and no amount of paint is going to fix damp carpets, a dank AC system, and rusty vents. My husband booked a hotel room through Airbnb and paid in full with his credit card. When he checked in, the hotel charged him again for a three-day stay without explaining why. I reviewed our credit card charges and had him ask the front desk, where he was told it was a security deposit that would be refunded. Fast forward--he returned home, and two days later, only $27.68 was refunded. He called the hotel, and the receptionist casually admitted they had made a mistake, not realizing the room was already paid for through a third party. They had double-charged him for his stay! The Downright is downright awesome! The rooms are spacious and clean. The front desk is on the ball and so is the rest of the staff. If you go down to Swim Club, ask for Harrison, but the entire staff is great. The staff at the Morningbird Terrace are personably and courteous. Chris can suggest drinks for your personal taste and James (Sous Chef) has designed an awesome menu. read more

They should have named this the DownWrong. We are business travelers and travel a lot, and mostly stay at Bonvoy properties and have never had a bad experience- until now.This place is a hot mess. I think the designers were going for a funky retro look - well It just comes off as Dollar Store Boutique. Our rate was $400 a night. For that you expect a great experience and surroundings. The place is stark, two small pictures in the entire room. Lighting terrible, it's hard to see to do your makeup or hair. Wait till you see the bathroom - it is reminiscent of a hospital or prison. The closet is just a metal coat rack - you know the kind your grandma put together for extra storage in the guest bedroom (only thing missing is some wheels) We are here at a conference of attorneys and financial professionals. I wanted to touch up my suit and put a fresh crease in my jacket - try doing that with a steamer, since there are no irons or ironing boards in the room. I had to call down to the desk at the last minute in the morning. Only to get an iron that left brown streaks on my suit. As I was leaving my room I wanted to store my valuables and passport in a safe - guess what, no safe! So I called down to the front desk and asked if they have safety deposit boxes, no boxes. So I ask what I'm supposed to do with my valuables, money, electronics while I'm not in the room. Their suggestion was just to find hiding places for them!!! So needless to say, I have been carting around a full heavy backpack all day. And we'll have to do that for the entire conference. Conveniently, just like sleazy parking garages there's a disclaimer on the door that the hotel is not responsible for stolen items. Note to Hotel - if you think your guests are leisure travelers and are set up for that, then you probably shouldn't book professional conferences, whatever your marketing consultants told you - they are wrong. Professionals want professional amenities you were terribly misguided. Your hotel seems more like a motel 8 at a Ritz price point. I'm was looking forward to some sun at the pool - that was closed There is loud banging going on in the walls during the day and night. Old pipes maybe? I complained on Twitter since the manager was not available- the response was pretty much "we don't care- it's your problem". Go Marriott! Anyway, there's a lot of great hotels in this area.
