We chose this hotel to stay close but not too close to the hubbub of Austin sights and sounds. Upon walking to our room into the main hallway, there is a lingering musty smell that lingers. We had a clean and tidy suite on the first level. Two double beds were comfy and plenty of towels. Our first night's stay was decent. Surprised to know they seem to use softened water because it made our skin feel slippery. I noticed the shower gel holder was falling out of the wall. A precarious situation of having to carefully pull the mechanism to dispense without pulling too hard. I did notify the night staff but the next day, it didn't seem like anyone came to fix it. No extra body wash or soap was provided even when I asked for some. The wall sockets with the en-suite appliances was not usable. The electrical outlets weren't working so we couldn't toast anything, use the kettle, or the coffee machine. Couldn't find one with a GFCI breaker to reset that side so gave up. Interestingly, the full-sized fridge and microwave were working ok though. The rod for one of the window curtains fell off while opening them. Because it's floor to ceiling we just left it alone. The common spaces around the property are well decorated, from the Library, Executive board room, kids corner, gym/yoga studio, and outdoor lounge space. Although, the snack/tea/coffee station with Keurig isn't filled maintained often. We had to ask the night staff to refill the water for tea and the lobby water dispenser was constantly low as well. On our second to last day, I found the hot water and still water station downstairs at Simona's. Pros: Clean, comfy, affordable stay. Enjoyed the bottomless drip coffee $5 and their signature Breakfast at Tiffany's latte. Also appreciated them letting us do late checkout and upgrade our room. Cons: Complimentary water station, Keurig / snack station, overall maintenance of room amenities could be handled better. Warning: If booking from 3rd party (BILT, Capital One Portal...) the added parking is not the same price that's on Colton's House's website. It's actually $40/day (with in/out privileges). However if booking directly through Colton House for stays, parking is 50% off at $20. Would we stay here again in the future? Most likely not. For an SLH property, we may look for another better-maintained option in the future. read more

The Colton House on South Congress feels more like your stylish friend's Austin loft than a hotel. It's modern and very boutique. It's extra but just the right amount of extra. There's a food truck instead of a restaurant! That's progress. Simona's is its coffee-and-cocktail bar in the lobby! I spent a full day at the pool. A beautiful choc hotel. A huge flaw is you need a key to get everywhere. You cannot go park and get to the lobby. You have to use a key to get from your room floor to the lobby. That's just weird. read more

This is a great hotel. We were there because a family member had a procedure at St David's. It was a breath of fresh air to walk in the lobby and then our room. It was clean and had everything we needed. We had a two bedroom. They were set up on opposite sides of living area with separate bathrooms too. I appreciate the large kitchen Island and then we had a table that was very large too. It faces the TV so I could eat and watch TV. The bed was comfortable. The pillows too hard for me. The shower was a AMAZING! It was large. They had a washer /dryer but without detergent. There was a nice bar and a great workout room. They have a separate yoga studio and do workshops there. You can become a member. The cleaning women were also spectacular. They were nice and friendly and grateful for a tip. They were learning English and thrilled I was helping them. There is no doubt that I would stay again if in area. It was in a convenient location. read more

Three words- chic, trendy, and hip! A beautiful boutique hotel with gorgeous decor throughout and spacious amenities. We stayed here for a weekend concert getaway in Austin. Located on a super busy street- Congress St. And driving up and down Congress, you'll notice lots of street construction. Parking was available for $30/day. Their lobby was gorgeous- spacious large rooms with lots of beautiful lounge chairs and interesting artwork. Complimentary mixed nuts, Red Bird sauce, and cold water were available- self serve. The hotel had a pool with an attached bar/food restaurant-Simona's and a Mexican food truck (Taquicardia) for breakfast and lunch. Our king studio was lovely. A large kitchen to the right with a microwave, toaster, utensils, glasses, and a large fridge. Decor was cute throughout- bathroom had two sinks, large shower, sofa, large tv, small desk, and plenty of storage for luggage etc. Sliding glass door to a barely there balcony lol Lovely colorful velvety sofas were near every elevator, with a restroom nearby. Stayed here on May 16 and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The biggest issue was the customer service at the front desk. The female employee who checked me in was rude, rushed through the process, and did not explain anything about the hotel or amenities. To make matters worse, the pool gate code was not working. I called the front desk for assistance, but no one ever came to address the issue or help resolve it. Overall, the lack of professionalism and poor customer service really impacted the stay. Management should seriously address how guests are being treated at the front desk. read more

I drive by all the time thinking it was just apartments and tucked away in the back is the most darling and charming retreat with a pool plus a speakeasy style coffeehouse and bar called Simona's. If you're not a guest of the hotel you can purchase a day pass for $30 to lounge at the pool. The adjacent deck is set up bistro style with a taco truck in true Austin fashion alongside it. While the lower level boasts a modern vibe with bustling conversation also offering cocktails upstairs was where I found my heaven in their sophisticated library with coffered ceilings and cozy velvet chairs and couches to curl up in with your latte. Covered attached parking garage next to lobby and your ticket is validated up to 4 hours with purchase! Enjoy! read more

I stayed December 10th and gave them a 250$ security deposit and it is now January 15th and I am just now getting my 250$ back which is insane. I've been waiting for my deposit back for a WHOLE MONTH. Why??? Avoid avoid avoid if I could give 0 stars i would. And that's not the only reason. Security guard kept harassing me.... This woman came to my car in the parking garage and needed to make sure "I was a hotel guest" and didn't do the same for anyone else. So I showed her my key cards and she gave me a look then walked away?? But here's the crazy part... I had been out and I was tired so I go into my room around 3 AM(mind you I was not visibly impaired at all) and then SHE COMES KNOCKING ON MY DOOR AT 4:30 IN THE MORNING to "check on me". I asked her if I had done anything wrong and she said no, so I asked why she insisted on harassing me and she says, "I won't anymore ma'am." I was in shock. I've never been treated this way in my entire life and I have a lingering suspicion that there was an undertone of discrimination that lead to this. For reference, I'm a 31 year old black woman and I was staying in a room alone. I hadn't done anything wrong, and I didn't deserve any of that. I paid for a room just like everyone else did. It made me feel really really sad; I couldn't have been more respectful yet I received exactly the opposite. You guys can do better; no one deserves to be so obviously singled out like that without cause whatsoever. read more

We visited Colton House Hotel this past weekend for a small getaway honeymoon. Upon arrival, the doors were opened for us and we were warmly greeted. All staff were extremely kind, and all details were in order according to our reservation. The hotel/accommodations were thoughtfully clean and aromatic. Beautiful hotel with modern furnishings. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I saw another review stating the floors were concrete-- at least for my room, it seemed to just be painted to look like concrete. They definitely weren't as hard or as cold as the other review made it out to be, in my opinion. I found my stay comfortable...however, the hotel is next to a very busy street with a lot of construction outside, which might have been the biggest downfall. I'm not familiar with Austin-- looking at the map, it seemed like it was in a more walkable location than it ended up being as far as traffic and safety were concerned. The coffee shop connected to the hotel was nice and cozy. The food truck was a little hit or miss but it was nice to have the option so close. read more

Spun by this new place in the neighborhood to check it out. Super nice management who gave us an overview of the hotel space and amenities. We then hopped back to Simona's for a hot beverage (super nice bartender/barista) and found the hotel to be cute. There is an upstairs section above Simona's that is like a den for hanging out. A small pool sits at the back of the property - which is also available to locals if you buy a pass. They have music on some nights and happy hours. Also had the opportunity to check out a room. Floors are all concrete so get those slippers ready. Rooms were cozy and the showers had great pressure. Kitchenettes had all the necessary amenities/gadgets. There's a pretty good size fridge with a freezer unit too. Important since the property doesn't have a kitchen (but HEB grocery is very close walking distance). Blackout curtains keep things dark and for being on a Main Street, it's still pretty quiet in the rooms. A great little boutique extended stay! read more

Rooms were clean and spacious. Pool area clean and fun. Thumbs down for inadequate AC. It's over 100 in Austin summer, walking into a room at 80 isn't acceptable. It took 24 hours to get down to our desired temp. Beds, terribly uncomfortable. For families, pool opens st 9 and check out is at 11. Not ideal. Tried to charge for late check out but we pushed back as the room we were in wasn't what we booked, another issue. So, the place is nice. Service should be better from the front desk, rates should be lower for the overall experience. read more

First time coming to Austin, we decided to stay at the Colton house! The vibe of this hotel is super cute. All the staff were really nice & friendly. We stayed in a king suite. It had a full kitchen! Included a sink ,Microwave, coffee pot and a full fridge! Walking distance to a lot of good spots! The cons the bed and pillows were pretty terrible that's really all I would have changed! I came here for an event with a group. We had the Parlor reserved. So check in by parking in the 15 minute parking and if you're a group there is usually a tag for you to place on your car. I was told to use my credit card at the parking lot gate, which affected me at check out, but it got resolved. the staff could be better informed upon checkin for groups. Everything is new. I was on the first floor. The rooms are comfy but I do wish there were flatter pillows. Beds were comfy, not too soft, not too hard. I couldn't quite figure out the thermostat. Loved the decor. we had drinks at Simona's. I wasn't crazy about their cocktails but their selection of wines were good and the ambiance was nice. The next morning at check-out, I learned that Simona's doesn't open until 8 am and wanted some hot water for tea. the front desk staff went and got me and my friend hot water from the back? But that was above and beyond customer service. Thank you! There is a nice display of trinkets and things to look at and buy. There's a library off to side of check-in. I like the location, as it's right the end of South Congress. Since it was November, the pool was closed, but the pool area is nicely laid out. read more

The rooms feel more like a home than a typical hotel, blending style with comfort. The gym is great too, with everything you need for a good workout from a normal gym not a "hotel gym" it's definitely a higher-grade (like pretty much everything here) Simonas is the lounge/hangout/event space inside the hotel, and it's definitely worth mentioning. We recently spent a few days at this sparkling new hotel and had a great experience. We booked directly through the hotel and Jenny was extremely helpful in coordinating our stay, and even made sure vegan toiletries and dog bowls were placed in our suite before we arrived. The 2-bedroom we stayed in was very airy and spacious, and the large dining table was a perfect place to set up our laptops and work remotely. The kitchen was well-equipped and would be great for a long-term stay...we wished we could have stayed longer! Every square inch of our unit was immaculate. The beds were super comfy and we were able to sleep well, which is a big deal as I'm pretty much The Princess & the Pea when it comes to beds. All of the staff we encountered were extremely helpful, friendly, and gave off good vibes. We hope to stay at the Colton House Hotel again the next time we find ourselves in Austin! read more

My husband and I stayed here for one night during the winter storm/ power outages and we were so thankful for every aspect of our stay. We would have probably been happy with any hotel with power and water but there's something about staying in a nice hotel when extremely exhausted that is very comforting. The hotel itself is beautiful and smelled awesome - I loved the decor (#goals) and especially loved the look (and the drinks) at the bar Simona's. The room had everything we needed including a complete set of dish ware, microwave, and a full size fridge. It was definitely bigger than most hotel rooms with a little living area complete with a couch, as well as a little dining nook. The bathroom was gorgeous with a very spacious shower. Under normal circumstances we would have never stayed at this hotel as we live in Austin, but now that we have, we would highly recommend to anyone coming to the austin area. It's in a great spot on South Congress a little away from the most touristy parts but close enough that it's easy to get there/ downtown as desired. Some things that stood out - 1) the staff was very kind despite being there around the clock, dealing with their own challenges with the winter weather, and having guests that somehow expected everything to be "normal" () despite the very difficult circumstances/ city falling apart. 2) the hotel was very understanding and flexible with early and late checkout with the circumstances which was so appreciated and I'm sure very difficult for their business. They were letting guests extend their stay even though they didn't have a reservation (very challenging given that all hotels were fully booked) and let people check out early without penalty. 3) We were so thankful Simona's was open. We were able to get coffee and a cocktails for surprisingly low prices compared to normal austin and hotel prices AND during a time when literally nothing was open in Austin. The ambience is . Also they offered snacks, fruit for really low prices ($1) when again this was really hard to come by. We were told the employees went to H‑E‑B next door and waited three hours in the line so they could have these at the hotel. THAT is commitment right there. 4) last but not least, their shampoo/conditioner and soap were all in big bottles that stayed in the room rather than those tiny plastic single use bottles. As someone who travels frequently for work, I really appreciate when hotels look out for the environment/ try to minimize their impact. Sadly this is still pretty uncommon in hotels. i stayed here for a weekend getaway to Austin. I was hesitant at first because when i called to make changes to my reservation the phone wasn't working. like i literally called nine times. i was finally able to speak w the manager after getting his personal cell phone from a booking company. my worry subsided. we pulled up to the hotel and it is super cute! the lobby was very well designed. we opted for a parking pass. just FYI--the garage gets full so you may have to park along the fence but the pass was better than no pass. we stayed on the third floor and had a view of the neighboring apartment. the room was very well thought out. it comes w a kitchenette (definitely came in handy the next morning), a king size bed and a couch. the tv is a smart tv and equipped for the times of today. (Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, etc). they even have a full length mirror!! the bathroom has double sinks, a nice roomy shower (fits 2 ) and the bathroom door can be pulled closed. all of the furniture, bedding and knickknacks in the room added a certain charm. we could tell the interior designer really thought about the comfort of the person staying. we didn't go to the pool area or the on site restaurant but they looked nice. we asked for a later checkout and there was a $75 fee. my hangover didn't mind! all in all, we will definitely visit and stay and Colton House again. First off, huge thanks to Josh, one of the managers. He took what could have been a ruined experience and turned it around completely. We stayed at the Colton House Hotel for 1 night recently, on a vacation trip to Austin. I booked the king 1 bedroom but once I got to the room it was obvious that this was an ADA room. While I am happy that they have those accommodations, an ADA room is not standard, and not what I was expecting. I lived in an ADA room for a period in college, and was not trying to revisit those accommodations. Unfortunately the showers just aren't the same, and being a tall person is a bit uncomfortable in an ADA room. Anyway, I was never notified that I was going to be placed in an ADA room. When I went back to the front desk, the gentleman who checked me in informed me that there were no other rooms of that kind available. He was nice, but basically wasn't amazingly helpful in finding an appropriate solution (I totally understand that he may not have had the authorization or knew how to fix this), so I suggested getting an upgraded room since this was a huge inconvenience. I was just really unhappy with the ADA room. Just when it seemed like I wasn't going to get anywhere and would be stuck with that room, Josh stepped in and not only upgraded our room to a two bedroom, but also provided us drink coupons so we could enjoy a beverage at Simonas. Thank you Josh for exceeding customer expectations. They also informed me that they are upgrading their systems soon, so hopefully you will be able to avoid being in a situation like this, where you book a standard room and they place you in an ADA room. As far as the hotel: it's cute. Smells really nice, is very clean, modern, and the common areas where you can relax and enjoy a drink are decorated perfectly. The decor, furniture and art was on point throughout the hotel and in the rooms. The drinks from the bar were really good. I enjoyed Purple Rain the best of all the ones I tried, though the espresso martini was great too! We didn't eat the food but I'd be interested to try next time. I absolutely love this place! The rooms were beautifully furnished, the kitchen in the suite was great. Even the double room we rented had a full-size refrigerator. (We we're a group, so we had a large suite and one double room.) The staff was so friendly and professional. They have a "Library Lounge" (as I called it) with encyclopedias from the 1920s, other old books, and some modern ones. As great as everything in the hotel is, I think my favorite part was -- get this -- a collection of Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Mysteries! Are you kidding me?! One night I slipped away from the group and read a few chapters of a Hardy Boys book I first read like 45 years ago! I LOVE THIS PLACE! read more

It's like a converted dormitory with slightly upgraded furniture. Pictures waiver sell the place and the location is terrible. So, I now have 2 stays under my belt .. first a king room and next a double queen room. I.LOVE.THIS.HOTEL. The reception is friendly and has a great little wall of gift shop. The bar is outstanding with great craft cocktails (although they need a stout/porter on tap) and pretty good choices for wine by the glass. The common spaces make you want to hang out there for no reason .. they just feel good. Our room is new and comfortable. The lighting is great and it's a very efficient use of space. Room for all of your stuff and a pretty decent little kitchenette .. whether heating leftovers or grabbing a little grocery from the HEB right around the corner. The shower is AMAZING .. better than mine at home and plenty of towels. It is walkable to south congress and the parking is easy. I cannot say enough GREAT things about this place. I had the priviledge of staying at the Colton House April 26-29, 2021. What a treat! My eyes were drawn to the tasteful and interesting decor throughout. I stayed in an efficiency. The in-room coffee maker tided me over until Simona's opened for a delicious latte. The bed and bedding were like sleeping in heaven. The shower was roomy and water pressure excellent. The staff was polite and attentive, offering superb service. I attended a meeting in the Library and afterward, enjoyed conversation and libation at Simona's. Has a really cool vibe! There is a kids area so they too can hangout and play with the supplied toys. We stayed in a 3 bedroom 2 full bath suite. The bedrooms and bathrooms are large with high end beds and bedding. Kitchen lighting, full size refrigerator and dishwasher made the kitchen area a great place to cook or order take out.
