Coffee set up in closet
Michelle N.

Great design and service, but the room was so odd. I got the worst night sleep ever from a combination of the noise outside, the noise from the fridge, and the very weak AC. Coffee machine was in the closet with no plug, and I had to take it over to the bathroom sink to plug in. The bathroom felt like a college dorm situation.

The location is terrific, right in SoCo, South Congress. The garden and pool area are well kept and maintained. Their event area is which is a lawn with string light above looked beautiful at night. The rooms are a bit silly to me. The restroom that can be closed off consists of the toilet and shower, but the sink area is adjacent to the bed. The light switches are all connected to a "master" switch so I initially thought multiple lights did not work. The restaurant, Summer House, is very good.

The staff were so incredibly friendly and welcome. We parked right up at the front so there was no walking up to the doors at all. Yes it's noisy but it's down town Austin and I wouldn't expect anything different. Everything was clean and ready for us when we got there. Didn't try the restaurant :/ All the decor is unique, sleek, and eco friendly! This place is definitely somewhere I'd recommend for tourists who want a fancy feeling get away without being "overly bougie".

I decided to have my 10 year vow renewal at Hotel Magdalena because it's beautiful and has a great location right off of South Congress. The staff were incredibly nice and supportive. They took care of me and my guests and everyone had an amazing time. Thank you HM for making my vow renewal special!

Where do I start? Mia at the front desk was extremely helpful allowing us to check in early after an exhausting night of travel!! Andrew escorted us through the grounds to our room. We met Shelby (Head of Maintenance), who obviously took pride in his work, because the grounds were beautiful. The pool was perfect to cool off during the hot August days. Plenty of lounge chairs in sunny or shady spots. Summer House restaurant staff (Nichole, Allen, Makayla, and Monica) get mad props for all the hospitality and delicious suggestions. The French toast made me see gold stars with each bite !! Thanks Allen!! Highly recommend this hotel!! When we travel back to Austin, we will be staying at Hotel Magdalena every time. Thanks everyone!!

We ordered pizza from Home Slice and drinks from the hotel.

My partner and I we're celebrating our shared birthday so we checked into the Magdalena for a couple nights. We were sent a celebratory bottle of bubbles! So classy. The room was a giant suite with a screened in porch area. We had the luxury of hanging in or out. Cool modern amenities and an excellent wet bar. We hung out at the pool all day. It was peaceful and quite. You can order drinks and food pool side which is a nice perk. They have great frozen drinks and the other guests were social and cool. The best part of the staycation was how friendly the staff were. They go above and beyond and do it with a smile. We were very well taken care of. We had peace and quiet and i cannot wait to return.

Loud trucks all morning
John M.

When I saw earbuds next to the bed I should have realized it was going to be a long night. Constant noise in the alley between the hotel and restaurants across. From delivery trucks to the trash being taken out, it was terrible. Staff was nice. Restaurant was delish but this noise is a deal breaker. It was a Sunday night and I don't know if they were full but this was the worst place to book someone.

Street level lobby at the hotel.

Amazing stay for our 33rd annual girls weekend. Our group traveled from Oregon, Washington, and Montana. We happened to choose an unusually hot weekend in the middle of winter in Austin which was a bonus. The hotel team was fun, amazing and accommodating. Big thanks to Martha, Justina, Lex, Tanner, and Blake for making our stay extra special!

We also dined at Nido, the hotel's restaurant, for both dinner and breakfast, and it was definitely a highlight. Located on the topmost floor, Nido offers stunning views of the river and downtown Austin. With both indoor and outdoor seating, the ambiance is elegant and ideal for a special evening. During our visit, we saw a couple of groups celebrating birthdays and wedding anniversaries, which shows how perfect this place is for special occasions. The pricing is on the higher side, but it matches the upscale experience and beautiful setting. For dinner, we ordered the Burrata as an appetizer and the Autumn Garden for the main course, along with an American IPA and a Jack Frost cocktail. Everything was delicious, but the Burrata truly stood out as my favorite. Breakfast was equally enjoyable--we had custom-made omelettes with veggies and avocado toast, both fresh and flavorful. Overall, The Loren Hotel, along with Nido, offers a great blend of comfort, excellent food, and a beautiful atmosphere. A perfect choice if you're looking to celebrate something special or simply treat yourself to a high-end experience.

The Friday night gathering was amazing. It was a perfect setting on the eight floor to talk, mingle, and meet new people. The evening was warm enough to go outside on the balcony/deck and have conversations and enjoy a breeze. The room itself is large with a water station and a bar. A few short tables were set up for sitting and a few tall ones for standing. They had a nice selection of drinks from beer and wine to mixed drinks. The food included lobster rolls, sliders (chicken and beef), a tray of different veggies and dips, little balls of cheese and something, and aroncini? My favorite was canapés of Mellon and prosciutto. The saltiness of the prosciutto added to the flavor of the melon. This event was 5***** I blame the architect for the room setup. Why would you put bedrooms on the side of a hotel next to traffic. The noise, honking and sirens. It finally quieted down around 11:30. Saturday was also an issue. They do provide ear plugs and sound machines, neither works for me. I was also surprised there was no lotion in the room. There was no microwave. Everything else in the room was top notch. Robes, slippers, a safe, a bar, and fridge. Overall, the noise is what created the 3*** rating. That was very disappointing.

While I mostly kept to the hotel, when I did venture out, I found that there were lots of great dining options within walking distance. My only nitpick is that the Wi-Fi was unreliable, which I've seen mentioned in a few other reviews. My first night, there was an outage throughout the entire hotel. If this stay were not reimbursed, I would have removed a star considering rooms average $500 a night and reliable internet access is expected. However, I was given 2,500 bonus points after calling the front desk when I first noticed I didn't have service. Completely unexpected but very much appreciated and yet another testament to the great service here.

The bed was super comfortable, the location was exceptional and walkable to everywhere I wanted to go while my friend was working. The staff members were super nice and I really enjoyed the flavored waters in the lobby and that the reception desk gave us bottles of water when we checked in. We were supposed to receive nightly turn down service and got one bottle of water and two mini "moon pies" one of the three nights we were there. That was it. The "Butler Pantry" in the morning is kind of a joke. The decaf coffee was cold and the regular coffee was empty one of the three mornings. The Biscoff biscuits and apples were inadequate to qualify as anything other than a nice gesture. The restaurant was closed one of the nights for a "private party" and booked the next night, so we were not able to dine there (we were busy the third night). The accommodations were nice and the shower was great, but not worth the price we paid. We had to call room service for ice, so that was kind of a pain, but they were very quick in bringing it, so not a big deal. I would not stay here in the future.

We had a clean and tidy suite on the first level. Two double beds were comfy and plenty of towels. Our first night's stay was decent. Surprised to know they seem to use softened water because it made our skin feel slippery. I noticed the shower gel holder was falling out of the wall. A precarious situation of having to carefully pull the mechanism to dispense without pulling too hard. I did notify the night staff but the next day, it didn't seem like anyone came to fix it. No extra body wash or soap was provided even when I asked for some. The wall sockets with the en-suite appliances was not usable. The electrical outlets weren't working so we couldn't toast anything, use the kettle, or the coffee machine. Couldn't find one with a GFCI breaker to reset that side so gave up. Interestingly, the full-sized fridge and microwave were working ok though. The rod for one of the window curtains fell off while opening them. Because it's floor to ceiling we just left it alone. The common spaces around the property are well decorated, from the Library, Executive board room, kids corner, gym/yoga studio, and outdoor lounge space. Although, the snack/tea/coffee station with Keurig isn't filled maintained often. We had to ask the night staff to refill the water for tea and the lobby water dispenser was constantly low as well. On our second to last day, I found the hot water and still water station downstairs at Simona's. Pros: Clean, comfy, affordable stay. Enjoyed the bottomless drip coffee $5 and their signature Breakfast at Tiffany's latte. Also appreciated them letting us do late checkout and upgrade our room. Cons: Complimentary water station, Keurig / snack station, overall maintenance of room amenities could be handled better. Warning: If booking from 3rd party (BILT, Capital One Portal...) the added parking is not the same price that's on Colton's House's website. It's actually $40/day (with in/out privileges). However if booking directly through Colton House for stays, parking is 50% off at $20. Would we stay here again in the future? Most likely not. For an SLH property, we may look for another better-maintained option in the future.

There's a food truck instead of a restaurant! That's progress. Simona's is its coffee-and-cocktail bar in the lobby! I spent a full day at the pool. A beautiful choc hotel. A huge flaw is you need a key to get everywhere. You cannot go park and get to the lobby. You have to use a key to get from your room floor to the lobby. That's just weird.
