The design and architecture carry this Auberge location... the service and communication were seriously lacking, keeping this from being the same caliber as other Auberge properties The good: -Spectacular design & thoughtful touches -Easy to forget you're in the city -Beautiful grounds -Pet friendly with thoughtful touches for the pups - Luties ! The bad: -Started off the stay by killing a giant Texas roach on the bathrobe when I first arrived in my room -Lack of communication by most of the staff -Horrible problem solving by the staff (the pool had to close due to weather, and when it reopened the staff could not figure out how to re-establish a smooth process for food, drinks, towels. Did not communicate with confused guests about the situation during this time) -When the restaurants close, there's no space to continue after hour conversations. -There are no extra amenities - no spa or in room massage or anything similar you'd find at other places of the same caliber - we watched someone's luggage get lost between their car and room, which was clear could easily happen again (due to lack of communication between staff) so we handled our own luggage Overall we were very surprised at the experience. I intentionally left a Van Cleef Bracelet in my vehicle to test the self control and trustworthiness of the staff/valet. Safe to say when they pulled my vehicle up it was missing. They give a slip saying they are not liable. Though If you're paying premium prices for a stay there the least you should be able to do is leave your valuables in your own car without fear of staff stealing it. I enjoyed my overnight stay here at the estate. The staff was very friendly and did their best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. First off, I loved the architecture and interior design here! Very historical looking and stunning. The hibiscus lemonade at check-in was delicious and made for a great first impression. Our room was nice: the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was quite spacious with both a shower and bathtub. The air conditioning was very strong which was perfect for the summer heat. The property had a gym, two dining options, gardens, and a pool. The gym is equipped enough for most of your workout needs. The pool area was a bit small. The water was icy cold, but I do wish there were more lounge chairs available. Valet parking was convenient. They even have Mercedes vehicles for you to drive around town if you wish. Room service food was alright. The fried chicken was a 3/5 and I only recommend the berry smoothie out of the two smoothie options. Good location close to downtown Austin. Was this an European villa or an estate in Austin? Hard to tell from the beautiful Mediterranean style rooms with double sinks and tiled floors. We arrived for a weekend of interesting southern charm and hospitality. The grounds were beautifully decorated and can understand why weddings are set here . The coffee bar in the mornings was a nice touch with dairy free options and they even offered a wine tasting Saturday evening with old time music playing on a record player by the fireplace.Nice touch !! Their valet offered service all night due to their limited close parking and they were cordial and fast to get your cars to you. Walking through the 10 acre gaited estate with coffee in hand in the mornings was a plus . Prices: on the higher side , this is not your typical hotel Parking: self park and valet available Customer service: Friday with Iris was exceptional due to her attention to details .Making sure our checkin went well even after the valet dropped our luggage off the cart onto the wet floors.(it was raining heavily when arrived) Saturday was average due to the front desk did not know any local places to eat and were on their phones vs attending to their guests. Food: No opportunity to eat here since arrived late Friday and Saturday traveled to Dripping Springs vineyard for an experience for the day. They did offer a special breakfast for our group Saturday that looked amazing with croissants and other pastries. Rooms: Be prepared for noise at night as they have wedding receptions that may last long into the evening but their black out drapes worked brilliantly and with earplugs we had no problem sleeping. Not your typical boutique hotel. This estate was definitely hidden and not easily found. With 1 entrance in and limited parking , valet services were the best part. Came for a special event Movember to raise awareness on Mens health. They did accommodate us as much as possible with their limited staff. The room was spacious with a coffee and tea bar however no coffee and tea in the room. In the mornings they had a small coffee bar by checkin. 1 evening they had a wine service open for 1 hour near our room with a record playingv40s music. Nice touch. Most of the time was spent driving out of town to a vineyard so spent limited time at the resort.We didn't eat there but the grounds looked elegant and open to eat outside . At night they did have some wedding events that lasted till 1 am and our room faced that building so be prepared to hear music loud from that part of the estate if you stay there. Would recommend bringing earplugs just in case. Overall, a nice stay. Pluses: room was comfortable with a large sitting area outside our room enclosed by a high fence for privacy.Bed was extremely comfortable and nice linens.Mostly friendly customer service. We were visiting Austin for a quick trip to visit Franklins BBQ and were looking for a higher end hotel that was close enough to downtown but far enough to where we felt like we weren't in the city. I have stayed at other Auberge resorts (Napa) and knew this hotel is worth it especially since they pay attention to all the little things. Some great mentions: - Drinks at the mansion were great and we loved the staff and the ambiance. - Close location to downtown Austin (around 10 minutes away without traffic). - Complementary Mercedes fleet on the premise. We opted to use one of the cars when we went to Franklins and it was perfect. Can be used for up to four hours. - Staff was extremely accommodating. We took some meat home from Franklins and staff was very helpful with helping us prep for our visit and offering the kitchen to help store out meat for a few hours before we left for our flight. -Rooms were spacious and beds were comfortable. Love the shower amenities offered. - Airport is 15ish minutes away. Next times: - As mentioned, the location is a few minutes outside of Austin and is located next to a golf course and a strip mall. Since this is a new resort they are currently in progress when it comes to growing out the greenery blocking the outside view (e.g., strip mall, nearby construction). This is the main reason to why I knocked down one star. I think once the greenery grows out and blocks the outside view it will be a lot better, however if I'm paying more than $500 per night I wouldn't be very happy sitting outside and looking at a grocery store parking lot. The property has multiple buildings - the mansion, the inn, the restaurant and the chapel. The garden maze is beautiful and peaceful. The pool is on the smaller side, but the lounges are extremely comfy. Be ready for the $49 overnight valet charge - that was a bit of an undisclosed shock to the system, especially when their drive is not paved - and you will absolutely get a dirtier car returned to you. Remarkable that this property sits in the middle of Austin. It was a perfect spot for few days to celebrate my sweetie pies birthday staycation. Upon arrival, we were quickly greeted by the Valet, who immediately asked what luggage we needed assistance with. The entrance is a grand doorway and upon entry, we were greeted by Audrey and a wonderful girl from Turkey. I'm so sorry I cannot recall her name just right now. Aubrey was our main contact at check in and she went through all the events and happenings at the Estate. She was so pleasant and informative. We were a bit giddy since it was a birthday celebration and she whisked us off to our Pomegranate Suite for our stay. Our Suite was top drawer. Super eclectic furnishings and art on some of the walls. I would encourage them to add some more. Very large bathroom with shower and tub. The living room had a comfy couch, couple of arm chairs as well as a little dining table for two of us. Nice big TV which had streaming available from our androids. On the coffee table there were some fresh cookies, some peaches and a lovely welcome card wishing Suzie a Happy Birthday. In addition, there were brochures and a map of the estate. The leather bound room book had the history of the estate as well as the room service menu. The bedroom was large, with closets and plenty of clothing storage and drawers for nick/knacks. Another large TV for streaming. There is a French Press coffee station, which was a tad complicated for us. If we would of spent a few minutes getting acquainted with the unit, it would of been easier to figure out rather than being hungover the next morning and trying to make coffee. Pro Tip, they do have complimentary coffee in the check in area for your pleasure. The bed was brilliant. Very comfy and we slept well. One point, the AC in this place rocked cold blowing air during our 103 degree days. There are French doors that open to a lovely little courtyard with a fountain and chairs. There is a little fridge in the bedroom area, with some off piste snacks, beers as well as a liquor cart in the living room. Yes, you will be buying $12 beers or $16 bags of salty snacks. Same goes for the Liquor cart, but all the prices our outlined in the room book. It is what it is. Hey, just drive across the street to the HEB and grab yourself a six-pack and drop it in the fridge if this is an issue for you. This isn't unusual to us at all. In the lobby area we found a warm environment to sit in big leather chairs, play scrabble, read a book or just relax in a very quiet place. Very Zen Like. All the team members were extremely cordial, chatty not to a point of droning on and we felt they generally cared we had everything we needed to enjoy ourselves. It was really nice to come back to the suite at bedtime to find our room turned down for the evening. Very sweet unexpected surprise. Room service was available throughout the day and everything we ate was excellent. We had breakfast delivered each morning. We very much enjoyed the SHAKSHOUKA, TOSTADAS DIVORCIADAS and SUSANA'S PASTRIES. These are pretty big breekie's. There are several different options, smoothies for instance and we always grabbed a carafe of coffee. My only regret was not grabbing the CROISSANWICH one morning. Susana has some serious chops in her pastry.. I mean Pain Au Chocolat and coffee, c'est la vie. This venue is not for folks looking for a downtown high end, swanky, chrome/mirror/glass kind of place. This is definitely a hidden gem in downtown Austin. We stayed in a suite room (room 7 to be exact) for an overnight staycation. The room was gorgeously appointed and the bed/bedding was luxurious. We got that room in particular for the deep tub the bathroom featured and this too was fantastic. The cons were that the suite was so close to the lobby - we heard everything going on at all times of the day and this was very frustrating for the cost of the room. The staff were attentive, albeit slightly disorganized. When brought into our room we were asking about where we could get a drink and we're then told they could make us a ranch water welcome drink. Seemed a bit of an after thought versus something we were greeted with. We had dinner at the "mansion". My husband reserved a table in the library after being told it was a more "intimate" setting. Sadly, we don't all share the same definition - the library was not a private setting. There was a party of two and a party of 8 also in the space. Not a big deal just a bit misleading. The menu was limited but what we had we did thoroughly enjoy (the caviar, garlic fries, fresh bread and oil and beef carpaccio). The beef was our least favorite but still decent. Very expensive but that was expected. The bread and oil was also an additional cost which was a bit surprising considering that's fairly standard for a table dinner. Stayed here two nights for my birthday because we live in a small town now and wanted to catch up with Austin and do Christmas shopping. I loved the location of this place. The staff was kind, the tiling was excellent. But one of the reasons we chose this place was the heated pool it mentioned on the website. We were excited to spend an entire afternoon lunching at the hotel and wading in the heated water. Unfortunately, not only was the pool not heated, but it was chained shut entirely and not open to guests. I was so heartbroken! We stayed here back in May 2021 when we were searching for houses to move to here, and we were blown away by the entire resort. The decor is elegant, classy, with sophisticated touches of modern elements. It's true luxury, with our rooms being absolutely breath-taking. We enjoyed the welcome service, touring the grounds and even just hanging out in the lobby. The restaurants attached served some of the best food we've ever had. Hands down, the Commodore Perry Estate is the BEST luxury hotel in Austin with a resort like feel. The facilities and staff are top-notch - Phil, who works at the Mansion, was one of the hardest-working and most personable people I've ever encountered in hospitality. Thanks again for everything, Phil! A few times the service at the Mansion and Lutie's was slow. I think they may have had staffing issues. But they comped our drinks for the inconvenience, which was great. The reason I docked one star is that on Sunday the restaurant and pool were very loud and chaotic thanks to a large number of kids. Their parents were not very interested in making sure they behaved. I gathered over time (watching them drop their car off at the valet and then head straight to the pool in swimsuits, their conversations with each other, how they knew the staff by name, discovering the membership option advertised on the website) that many of these families were local "members" at the Commodore Perry - essentially they can pay for annual access to the facilities. I'm sure this is a nice way for Auberge to ensure they have some guaranteed income, but it was not ideal for my wife and I who had paid a couple grand for a staycation where we were looking forward to relaxing by the pool. The members seemed to be pretty entitled. I'd recommend that Auberge/Commodore Perry figure some way to limit the number of members who can use the facilities at any time, and try to enforce some rules for kids etc. splashing on guests reading in the pool, screaming, etc. I'd be happy to come back if they did so. read more

This place is simply gorgeous!! The grounds are amazingly well kept, the building is incredible, it's quaint and it's in such a surprise location in Austin. The estate takes you back to 1927 when this building was built. Some of the rooms are still original from the 1920s in the mansion. Unfortunately, this is only for guests. My girlfriend and I had the punch bowl special which is a must have! We then roamed around the grounds, took in some live music and watched the sunset. The garden has a European vibe with a lovely pond and water features. I cannot speak highly enough of the service and friendliness here. Thank you!! Definitely will revisit! read more

One of my favorite places on earth. The rooms are so bright and incorporate a vintage feel with uniquely sourced furniture. Ryan, a pool server was a gem and creates a hospitable feel. Good, I think is stellar. Tuna crudo was delicious, the cheeseburger was great but even brunch had highlights. Austin Texas did not disappoint. Looking at pictures online of the exquisite property really doesn't compare to experiencing all of the wonderful details at this property. The Mansion, rich with history is a must see. Patio seating or inside was a difficult choice, so we did both!! We started with cocktails in the living room then headed to the patio for a late night supper. After dinner drinks in the library followed by a stroll over to Luties for a light dessert. French 75 with Empress Gin, Swordfish bathed in a cream bath, Kouign Amann ice cream and a nice Espresso Martini to end our night. I brought my husband here for his birthday in 2022 and we had such a wonderful experience. They treated us like a king and queen. It was not too busy so we got a real royal treatment. I enjoyed the mansion so much and loved eating there because only hotel guests are allowed to dine there. The food is amazing and above most fine dining establishments. Service is personal and everyone is professional and yet nice and down to earth at the same time. We loved sitting by the fire and they have the most wonderful chocolate cake that I wanted to come back for on my birthday in 2023. So, we came back. However, there was a mix up and I did not get the cake on my birthday...even though they had been in contact and I requested it. They could not have been more concerned about the mix up and they took responsibility (rare these days). They even sent a gift package after our stay and it contained some lovely things like soap, cream, oils and so on...very kind. We recommend this experience but we liked it best when it was not so busy...gave us more attention. Big smiles. It's romantic too. We really did feel special...like royalty. Thank you. read more

It is by far the worst value for a hotel we have ever experienced. We paid almost $2,000 a night for a hotel we would normally have $200 a night. First the positive: 1. The staff was very nice but everyone were really young. 2. It was very quiet. The negative: The neighborhood is very run down, poor part of town and NO fine dining nearby. The Commodore Perry Junior Suite had just eclectic furniture from every style, no bottles of water, not enough supplies in bathrooms (towels, soap, TP) and refrigerator didn't even have club soda. The beers were off brands and the snacks were all spicy. It was poorly lit and the dead palm tree in the corner was ugly. There were sketches of naked men and women throughout. Room service food was marginal at best. We have paid half that amount for a Four Seasons in Vegas, Hawaii and Seattle. Please keep looking for a better value. We were planning to stay at another Auberage hotel in Cabo - we rebooked for the Montage. We went for a swim only to find no towels at the pool. Our bed sheets had a tear in them. The AC in our room did not work properly so we were hot all night. The food was not what you would expect for Auberage - our $125 seafood tower was not fresh or well presented. The breakfast which was $24 per person was so rich with butter and sugar that we could not eat it. The hotel sits right on a Main Street (across from a strip center) with no security gate - our patio had a great view of the strip center. If there's one thing that's true about Austin (and I'm sure there are several) that is that it's hard to find large, gorgeous spaces. Everyone kind of defaults to the same old places time and time again and it's okay.... but I can only go to so many weddings at (insert place here.) Though I haven't booked it for anything (yet) the Commodore Perry estate is gawwwwgeous dahling. They've done an incredible job with the space -- it's elegant but not intimidating, it's huge but not overwhelming, it's a beautiful piece of land with traditional architecture in the heart of Austin. They are new and opening in the hardest year so give the bad reviews a break. The beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Their toiletries left me smelling like a spa and relaxed all day. I am completely flummoxed by the positive reviews I read before coming to this place for our anniversary. Our stay wasn't a disaster but it was so overpriced for what it delivered that it would be comical if it weren't totally insulting. Positives: the decor and grounds are truly exquisite. The burger and fries are worth the biscuit no question. But you don't go to a place like this for a pretty room and a burger (at least I don't). What you really want is to feel attentively looked after, to have a moment where all your needs and expectations are met and even surpassed. That is the opposite of what happened to us. We left feeling completely passed over, ignored, even disrespected (not deliberately, of course). It's not arrogance, pe se (although Auberge Resorts has always been a brand that has a very high opinion of itself and often under-delivers), but frustratingly uneven service and attention to detail. Cocktails were undrinkable, and left untouched, but still charged. Dinner reservations were ridiculously difficult to make (1 email and two phone calls and still didn't get what we hoped for) , and then not honored (we were told 30 min wait past our res for the table we requested). Zero interest in our opinion at check-out although I did say were were less than satisfied. If you said that when you checked out of say a Four Seasons, the management would be chasing you down to hear your thoughts and to see how the issues could be resolved. So many rookie mistakes from this long-established luxury brand it's baffling. No idea how they are getting away with it but they won't be getting my business or recommendation. read more

I should have paid more attention to the other negative reviews. The first room they put my in had a view overlooking a rundown house with overgrown lawn. Not what you would expect for a high end resort. They agreed to "upgrade" me to a room right off the lobby. Again, not what I expected for the price I paid. The worst part was the hamburger I ordered for dinner from room service. It was very undercooked and didn't taste good. I stopped eating after a few bites. I told the hotel about the quality and they said they would take it off my bill. However, I had a food credit for booking through my travel agent so it didn't matter. The worst part was 5 hours later when I got very sick with food poisoning. I was up until 5a. I called to let the hotel know and they offered to bring me something if I wanted. I had them bring me a sprite in the morning. But that was the extent of their hospitality. Last Thursday, a client of mine hosted a party at the Commodore Perry Estate. The estate is absolutely gorgeous. The backyard is beautiful and the interior has been meticulously renovated. The Estate is absolutely breathtaking. It *would* be a beautiful venue for any charity function or medium to large wedding. However, I say *would* because the owners/staff do not have their act together. After weeks of being told by the Estate's coordinator that my wedding was on the books, and then being put off when I asked multiple times to get the contract so I could sign it, she told me that because of "zoning issues" I wouldn't be allowed to get married there after all. This was especially frustrating since my fiance spent money and his valuable leave days to make a special trip from the west coast to see the place only a few days before Paula told me we couldn't do it there after all. If she'd bothered to warn us that it might not work out, rather than her telling everyone "This couple is getting married here in September!", we would have made sure to tour some other venues together that weekend. Instead I had to tour other venues and make a decision without my fiance, less than three months before the wedding. My wife and I got married at Commodore Perry Estate in July 2012. I'd have to concur with everything Jamie said. The estate is beautiful, but the process to get under contract and work with them was more than a nightmare. They were extremely unresponsive and behaved as if they were doing us a favor to have our wedding there (and pay them significant money to do so). After much badgering, they gave us a contract, then sent another one after several weeks saying "the owner revised it." Many of the commercial terms were actually silly (like that they would own the rights to the photographs for any and all of their uses - not the photographer or us owning the rights). I'm not sure whether the attorney who drafted their contract was directed to be unreasonable by the owners or just not very business savvy. And, each requested modification or clarification was met with "I'll have to check with the owner who is out of the country" or something like that followed by multiple follow-ups and long delays in responses. I was never allowed to interact with their attorney and spend dozens of hour on what seemed to me to be very basic contract matters. We were seconds from pulling the plug at multiple points, and would have done so but my fiancee had fallen on love with the venue. After all of the pain, they kept almost $2,000 of our security deposit because a 12x15 glass pane in a door was broken by a chair leg - we were told it was "original glass." Then, I requested several times to get a copy of the repair bill so that I could submit it to my insurance company, but never got one. Beware... I recommend to choose another venue unless you have a legal background and a very high pain threshold. read more
