I have special ordered when needed but I enjoy just dropping by to see what has come in recently. I see comments about cut flowers in decline but that is the nature of the product. Asked an employee for help making a small bouquet around the $30-35 range, mentioned I was on a college student budget. she said it would be hard but handed me some spray roses and grass filler. There are no prices listed on the items she handed me. It rang up for $50, but the employee had already wrapped it all up before pricing it. Felt I had no option but to pay. Instead, I walked out with an armful of Casablancas - some withered, banged up and stained - for a price that was so unbelievable that I'm not even going to share it here. When I got home and appraised my purchase, I realized that I had approximately 10 mostly extraordinary stems along with several throwaways. Austin Flower sells wholesale and retail flowers to people willing to make their own arrangements... or folks like me who are obsessed with Casablanca flowers. Do not come here expecting a lot of service. Come here if you are looking for flowers you cannot find anywhere else in the city. You might be bitterly disappointed. Shopping here is a little tricky. Really disappointed by my experience here. Almost everything in their selection was well past full bloom and dying/browning. Multiple of the flowers in my bouquet ended up falling apart by the time I got them home. Especially at this price point this is not worth anywhere near the amount I paid. I'm doubly disappointed by how many good things I had heard about them, only to have a selection this poor. risky purchase Let me start by saying I have never written a negative Yelp review, so it takes a lot for me to think it should be shared and possibly affect their business . I have been getting flowers here retail for 12 years. I was in last week and spent $300 for my home, $100 of that on many bunches of Lysianthis. There were some flowers open but the majority were still closed . As usual, I went home to cut them and immediately put them in their vase. a week later, they still had not opened AT ALL. not some didnt open, nothing more opened from the day I purchased them. I took them back exactly a week later and expressed my concern for spending that money and them not opening. Now this has actually happened a few times before but I've never felt the need to go back bc obviously it's the nature flowers sometimes. This was a clear issue. when I showed them, I was told there was nothing they could do since it had been a week and I should've brought them the next day. In that case, they could've done something. I continuously asked how I would know they wouldn't open in a day and all I got was an "I'm sorry". The reason I waited a week is bc I was waiting for them to open! I asked for her to ask the owner and she went back there returning with a "I'm sorry, there is nothing we can do". the thing that insensed me so much was that she didn't even take the flowers to him. Now, it's not about the money, it's about being treated respectfully as a customer, and a loyal one at that. I felt like inwasnt given the time of day when the owner manager could've walked 10 feet to me to personally apologize and explain the return policy. I stood there for a solid 15. mI had $200 more in flowers to purchase that day and I wasn't even offered a discount. Nothing! Not wholesale price, 5% off..... anything to show "gosh, that stinks and we aren't sure why but it could've been us and we want you to come back".again, it's not about the money, but just showing they care that it happened. The reasons they wouldn't open is something that went wrong in the transport, delivery, put out process. Maybe out of water too long, got hot, not cut correctly.... something but the issue was not a subjective thing. These 5 bunches of the same flowers were all still closed while the other flowers I bought were great. Being that this has happened before, I won't be taking the chance spending a lot of money here Especially knowing there is no recourse if it's a quality or issue they are at fault. My husband bought 2 dozen red roses for me last Wednesday, but within 5 days they were all drooping and almost dead. Our previous experience with Austin Flower Company has been very positive - they have a great selection of very fresh flowers. I called, and they asked me to bring a photo of the flowers and a receipt if possible. Wow! Wow wow wow! This was my first time to come to this place and I will def be back! My husband had gotten my flowers here in the past, but we were getting some for a friend and holy smokes! They have an amazing selection of high quality flowers and plants! You can choose whatever you want and they can either wrap them up to go or actually do an arrangement for you (you buy a vase from them as well). If we had gone to a florist or even a grocery store and bought their top quality, it would have easily cost DOUBLE what we paid AND they would have wilted faster because they weren't as fresh as these. This review is solely based on my personal experience. If you do not agree with me, please DO NOT message me and tell me that I am wrong because your experience is not same as mine. I love supporting local businesses and recommending them but definitely not if they are not honest to their customers. 1. False advertising (see attached picture #1 & #2) 2. After getting the 3 plants that I ordered from the rack (curbside pick-up) I noticed they looked totally different from what they have on their website when I ordered it. An associate (she has make-up of bloody forehead on for Halloween) came out to put more plants on the rack. I talked to her and showed her that the plant that she put out for me looks very different. She said "It is the same plant. You ordered Neon Pothos and those are Neon Pothos." I explained to her that I am new to indoor/tropical plants so I am not good with their names yet. I don't buy based on the name of the plants but how they look. I explained to her that really like the plants on the website (which I showed her --picture #1, has rounder heart-shape and not much ridges on the leaves. The plant that was given to me is oval/narrow leaves and more well-defined ridges on it. Although I am new to indoor plant, I am not stupid to believe her lies-- She said, "Those pictures were taken couple days ago and weather could change how they look like."-- She offered me a full refund but I told her that I will just keep the plants because I did not want to waste my gas, mileage and 1 hr 10 minutes round trip drive and come home empty handed. I wish she offered me to replace the plant that she gave me with the plant that they advertised on their website when I ordered it; Or She should just offered the refund and stop her mouth from there. I was very disgusted by her lying to me and think I stupid that I would believe her that weather would drastically change the plants' feature... not even after few months. 3. Did not admit the error to me but suddenly made changes on their website after few hours I made a complain (see picture #3 and compare it to picture #1) 4. I will definitely DO NOT recommend buying from this business specially if you are new to plants and you are not familiar with how are they should really look. This business is not reliable with accuracy of information on their website. Their associate failed to be honest. The management is aware of the false advertising and made changes but not even called me to apologized and attempt to give/offer me the same plants I saw when I made my purchase online. Plant that they originally posted on their website is identified as "Philodendron Neon Heart-shape" by many plant collectors in the plant group. Buyers like me base my purchase on the look of the plant not their names ended up get fooled. Wasn't greeted or offered any assistance the entire time I was there (ten minutes). Six dollar stems of peonies were bruised and battered and definitely not worth taking home. They have a wide selection of flowers, but it seems as though Saturday isn't a great day to go. Of the four bouquets I was interested in, only one was unblemished and hearty enough to get to Monday when I need them (and those were leaves). Most of the items were unlabeled and with the three employees conversing amongst each other instead of assisting the two customers in there, you had to figure it out on your own, it seemed. This place is an absolute fun house whenever there is an issue with my flowers or my plant order, the workers are always there to help me out even it there was miscommunication. I've been going for years and never had a sour experience. The new girl buying with the orange hair (Mary I think) has so much knowledge of the plants. Well, I found my hydrangea had fungus on it, 2 days later from buying, with brown spots and white fluff not only at the tip of leaves, but also at a tiny dead flower. Some leaves had been carefully cut by the Austin Flower Co. at the very tip (to my surprise, I even didn't notice that when buying it) but I still can see the brown edge with white cilium of fungus. They must knew that this plant had been sick. I checked out the pathology atlas of hydrangea on internet and found it was called GRAY MOLD, which could be found on leaves and flowers and is easy to treat. So it is a reminder to those who plan to buy hydrangea from them since it's a communicable disease and all their hydrangea pot stay in the same room with very limited distance from each other. I think it was my fault that I didn't check every leaf carefully enough before paying money for it. Nevertheless, Austin Flower Co actually took really good care of the plant because they had cut the infected tip of leaves, which is too tiny to notice for a careless layman like me. However, I still wanna ask a question: why didn't you mention the problem to the customer even when you not only had known the problem, but also had already cut the leave tip? Four stars for reasonable price, good service and good care of plants. The missed star is for the communicable gray molds they didn't even mention. read more

One of my best friends recently retired and I stopped by Austin Flower to get her something extraordinary. She is a huge plant and flower lover and one of the most thoughtful people I know, so I knew that Austin Flower would have something she'd love. The selection of gorgeous flowers and HUGE potted plants is quite nice for such a small space and I was able to select a truly show stopping flowering plant (whose name escapes me, as I am not the gardening type). This plant got so many compliments, seriously! She loved it and it was well worth the price. I stopped in here yesterday (6 days before Easter) to get 2 potted Easter lilies for my Morehand's ladies (they're sweet and I like to surprise them now and then), and I decided to get an extra one for our office at UT. It was quick-- the lilies were lined up inside; I picked 3; the guy at the counter found some covers for the pots, and I paid him. He put together a box to make it easier for me to carry them. This wasn't an involved purchase (such as would be expected while choosing flowers for a wedding), but it was quick and pleasant. I don't often need to buy flowers---usually just to make amends when I make a woman angry, but that doesn't happen often anymore. My mother did teach me to take flowers when I'm invited to someone's house for dinner, and this is the place I'll go for that. I'm glad I went here, and will go back when I need flowers. read more

I can't help you be more forthcoming with your feelings, nor can I help you be less selfish, but I can tell you about this place that has enough flowers to get you through any occasion. You have to bring your creative flair for color or have a good idea what you want when you arrive since they advertise as a flower wholesaler. Think of it as a Home Depot as opposed to Crump for plumbing supplies. Yes I will screw up analogies all day long if you let me...but you guys know what I'm talking about. Don't expect service to be stellar or sprawling aisles of flowers ordered by color or any of that kind of nonsense. Though I will say that everything that I've ever wanted, I could find with no problem, and if I had a simple question it got answered. This is no frills flower buying without people hovering over you to find out what the occasion is, how you screwed up this time, or who died. For that reason alone, I like this store. Also the packaging is not overwrought and you're never asked to upgrade or made to feel guilty because you don't have a fancy vase to go with that, etc. They sell flowers, wrapped in paper usually and tied with a piece of twine. They almost immediately go into a vase, so the rest is superfluous. They may die after a few days or you could be fortunate and take the time to pick healthy ones like I did and see the last of them through two weeks. At the very least, yes, flowers will help you find favor with the lady that you want to impress. But at the most, they have every one of your good intentions resting in the bottom of each bud ready to open up and show the world. read more

Since I know absolutely nothing about plants or flowers, they make it easy with pre-made bundles that I can choose from and scoop up and buy. They are always really beautiful, but very expensive (about $40). They seem to have a decent selection of other flowers and interesting fillers and their employees are at least pretty helpful and knowledgeable. They also sell vases here, which is handy. As for the guy raving about price gouging, umm.. that's what happens. First Yelp review ever. But I had such a great experience here at Austin Flower Company that I felt I needed to give them a huge shout out. I was in town for our destination wedding and decided to make my own bouquet. After finding Austin Flower company online, I went the day before I got married to get the flowers. The selection was great, and it was really easy to pick what I wanted. Then we met Dylan. Dylan asked a few questions and quickly found out my plans for the flowers. He gave me wholesale pricing because I was the bride, and showed me a few tips on how to make the bouquet look best. He made sure we had something to carry them all in, and helped walk the flowers to the car. We were really impressed with the level of customer service at that point- when he asked us to wait a few minutes while he ran back inside. A few minutes later he comes back with more flowers that he felt would make the bouquet look nice. What?? Free? Could this experience have gone any better? The answer is no. Best ever. That being said, you should know: 1) Austin Flower Co. does not generally arrange flowers, although they do have a small selection of bouquets. 2) AFC is primarily comprised of a large walk-in fridge room with a ton of varieties of flowers. 3) You can easily mix and match the flowers in the back room for a unique and well-priced bouquet - I can walk out of here with a $10 bouquet that I'm totally thrilled about! The people here are always helpful and friendly to me. I generally walk around with a puzzled look on my face, because I'm indecisive when it comes to matching colors and textures of flowers, and they're more than willing to guide me on my flower quest. I stop by after work sometimes when I just need a pick me up, and buy a bouquet of a single flower variety to fill some vases around my house. It works like a charm, and always lasts around a week!
