This fancy-pants "nursery" in North Austin offers financing for your project (or partners with someone who does). That should tell you: it's looking for customers with fat wallets. I asked if they were a native plant nursery on the phone and the salesman responded "we guarantee all our plants, so we wouldn't be doing that for plants that won't grow well here." NOTE: That is not an affirmative answer--it's an evasion. Selection is limited to medium to large containers, and well-established trees in MASSIVE containers (those certainly require delivery, I'm thinking). No seedlings or small containers, that I could see. This was a huge disappointment, since I was led to believe I was going to a native plant nursery, and that I would be offered assistance and advice. Neither turned out to be true. This nursery really wants you to buy into letting THEM do the work for your "project," from design to installation to maintenance. If you've got unlimited cash to burn and you want to pay them to maintain their work, go for it! This doesn't feel like a place where you can come as a gardening novice and get advice and ideas--what you're going to get (assuming that someone decides to speak to you while you're there--someone did speak to me in fact, to tell me nicely to move out of the way) is an upsell--or a brush-off, if you're deemed too small-fry to waste their time with you. Of course this impression is formed by a few minutes on the phone where the SALESMAN (not gardener, not plant expert) encouraged me to bring in photos of my yard so they could help with the design, followed by an excited trip to the nursery, and discovering that what's here is mostly large containers, lots of very large trees (get three large trees for only $10,000!), and lots of (I think) non-natives. Don't come here if you want to learn how to do things yourself. If you want full sized trees to plop into the ground and someone to do the work of maintaining them, or you really like the idea of financing an instantly landscaped yard without having to do anything but open your wallet or going into substantial debt--then Moon Valley may be just the place for you. read more

I want to give a HUGE shout-out to Carlos Nieto for going above and beyond to make my Moon Valley Nurseries experience smooth, easy, and honestly more enjoyable than I ever expected a tree-shopping trip to be. I would give Carlos 10 stars, but apparently Yelp believes in limiting greatness. The moment I arrived at the nursery, I was blown away by the size and quality of the trees, along with all the beautiful shrubs available. As I walked around trying to figure out where to even begin, I was greeted by Carlos with a handsome smile and a firm handshake. He immediately asked what brought me into Moon Valley and what he could do to make my day great. I told him I needed shade and wanted to start a fruit orchard. Carlos listened carefully, showed me around, and helped me fall in love with a beautiful Holly Oak and Red Oak. He tagged the trees, put my name on them, and then helped me select 12 medium-sized fruit trees that were already producing impressive amounts of fruit. Apparently, I did not just come in for a little shade--I came in ready to become a small-scale farmer. Carlos then offered to come to my house and help map everything out to make sure the trees would fit and thrive in the spaces I had available. He followed me to my home and was just as professional there as he was at the nursery. Before we even went inside, Carlos placed a flag for the Red Oak in my front yard and took photos of the area. When I invited him into the house, he asked whether he should remove his boots so he would not track dirt inside. I have dealt with plenty of workers and contractors, and I cannot remember anyone ever asking me that. That small act of courtesy immediately confirmed that I was working with the right person. Once we made our way to the backyard, Carlos asked what I liked and disliked about the space. As it turns out, I did not like much of anything--so the plan had to change! Without missing a beat, Carlos recommended adding a privacy screen along with accent shrubs that would complement the yard and create a space my wife and I could actually enjoy. He walked the property, listened to every concern, placed flags throughout the yard, and took photos with his iPad as we discussed different options. What impressed me most was how fast, organized, and efficient he was. Carlos knows exactly where to put things, and somehow, he makes walking around a yard and sticking flags in the dirt look like a highly skilled art form. He then showed me a quick mock-up on his iPad so I could see the entire design in real time. Once I could actually visualize the finished yard, I was sold. I did not finalize the purchase that day, but we scheduled a follow-up appointment for the very next day to choose the privacy trees and shrubs. When I met with Carlos again, the process was fast and easy. He showed me the plants he recommended and explained why each one would work well in my yard. We ultimately selected several varieties, including sage, lavender, pineapple guava, rosemary, and Mexican bird of paradise. For the privacy screen, we decided on Arizona Cypress. Moon Valley also offered a 0% financing option, which made the purchase even easier. I left feeling confident, excited, and extremely happy with both my purchase and the time Carlos spent helping me. Carlos is knowledgeable, professional, courteous, efficient, and genuinely listens to his customers. He did not simply sell me trees and shrubs--he helped create a complete plan for transforming my property into a space my wife and I can enjoy for years to come. Five stars on the website, but easily a 10-star experience in our Hearts. If you need trees, shrubs, landscape design help, or someone who can look at your yard and immediately see its full potential, ask for Carlos Nieto. I waited to write this review hoping Daniel from Moon Valley would follow through on the commitments he made. The initial process--from sales pitch to selecting the trees to installation--was generally smooth. We did experience some delays, and they scratched our iron fencing during install, but overall the front end of the project was acceptable. We were told we would receive a complimentary container of Moon Juice/Moon Boost. That never happened. We spent $19k on trees, which is a significant investment, and I began working with Daniel in February 2025. He was extremely responsive until the job was completed--then communication dropped off entirely. In September, I reached out with concerns about the Monterrey Oak, which was supposed to be a large tree providing substantial coverage. After multiple attempts, he finally replied and told me to "come by" to pick up Moon Boost, Moon Juice, and soil conditioner. I asked if he could drop it off when he was in the area, and he said he would. He never did. In October, he responded again, saying, "Y'all got the smaller Monterrey oak. They will get big and fat. It'll take time. I'll come by Tuesday with some products. You can always upgrade to a bigger one and just pay the difference." When we purchased, we were very clear that we wanted a large tree to cover the side of the yard with no existing trees. At this point, I cannot recommend Moon Valley. I regret not hiring a local company that stands behind their work and communicates after the sale. read more

He also guided me through the tree and plant selection. Dale and his team came to dig the hole for the tree and they were kind, helpful and fast! Then today, the big day for planting, Josh Gault and his team took great care to confirm details and to help with finalizing some plant placement decisions. They went above and beyond. If I had done this review the day the initial installation took place, I would've happily given five stars. Now that I've lived with the Moon Valley "experience" for six months, I can only give one star. Lack of customer service, lack of communication, lack of follow through, and a general lack of customer engagement is the reason. The initial installation was done, and many of the plants immediately died. It took a long time to get them replaced. Both trees needed to be replaced and when they were replaced, they weren't planted in the correct places. They planted five planters with rosemary and the soil they used dried like concrete. Those have still not been redone. Gardenias and Hibiscus died, replaced and still not healthy. Jasmine planted and had to be replaced, they are still not all healthy. Plants that were put in the front of the house weren't installed where they were supposed to go. Each crew says that they will "reach out" to Daniel and then it takes too long to hear back from anyone. Daniel started out responsive, and then quickly stopped responding to emails, calls or texts. Not a great way to treat customers. Most recently, I had an appointment for their "MVP" inspection on the two trees for 12-31-25 between 7:00AM and 5:00PM and they never showed up. Definitely doesn't live up to the "MVP" service that was promised and purchased. I honestly couldn't be more dissatisfied with a company. read more

Do not buy their tree care program, they don't show up after confirming appt by reminder and then giving you a 10 hour window to sit at home. Fast forward to the second appt- yep, the conf came thru yesterday. woohoo. Btw- they stated I would be the first appt (8amish) appt of day to make up for previous n/s. Okay we're gaining traction. This morning, I receive a text notification the driver is on his way and a tracking app at 7:02am. At about 7:35 the update reads - The tech is 18 min from arrival. Then at about 7:55 it states tech is one minute away. I go outside to greet said tech. That lasted about a 15 minutes (I'm a bit ashamed I waited that long but you know- manners) then here comes 9am - tech is still one minute away. 10am tech is still one minute away. Did the guy take a nap one minute from my house??? Asking for a friend.? Once again they are a n/s. I reach out to express this issue and get a text from said sleepy tech saying they need to cancel due to weather!That's original. It's been lightly sprinkling off and on, mostly off this morning. No big weather event. I guess I would have sat here all day once again if I hadn't reached out and woken up said sleepy tech. Do I want to r/s they ask? Nawwww, I'm good. But..,on a positive note, their oak trees look magnificent in my back yard! read more

In 2024, I made a purchase of $7766.51, including 5 trees (3 palms, 1 rose, and 1 loquat) and many shrubs. Upon signing the contract, the sales guy lured me to spend $500 on 1Y warranty for the trees, as they cost $299 each (my gardener told me later on that the palms didn't need warranty at all). He also promised me that he would be on site to make sure his team got all the trees and shrubs planted properly. Because of his promise, both my husband and I went to work on the delivery day. Turned out the sales guy didn't show up at all, and the planting team (a 3rd party contractor) did a terrible job. My home (the whole area of 78746) is build on clays, and it requires good effort to dig deep. What happened is they dug too shallow. All the trees and shrubs were planted well above ground level, disguised by thick mulches. BTW, since the loquat tree was out of stock, they replaced it with a plum tree, and had it planted around early November, 2024. Our gardener noticed the nursery didn't plant properly. So he had everything, trees and shrubs, covered by freeze protection blankets throughout the winter freeze in 2024. Still, 1/3 of my shrubs couldn't come back in spring 2025, because they were not rooted well. I complained to the sales guy, who gave me that false promise. He replied: "The planting team has nothing to do with me. You should have stayed home and watched over the delivery." In early January 2026, the plum tree was still alive, about to bloom. A freeze hit Austin later that month. Given it had survived the 1st winter, our gardener didn't cover that tree this time. Surprisingly, it never came back after the freeze. I waited till last week, and our gardener told me the plum tree had virtually died. I went back to MVN, asking for a replacement. As mentioned above, that tree was planted in late 2024, and by January 2026, it was only 1 year and 2 months old. I know the warranty I purchased covered 1Y only, however, it would not have died, had MVN planted it properly. To say nothing of the 1/3 shrubs I lost last year. The manager, Don, politely declined my request. He insisted on the 1Y limit for my warranty. He did give me two rose bushes, which were on half-price sale that day. To be frank, I am so disappointed with MVP, with over $2000 wasted. read more

This place is amazing! You can walk through and see lots of different trees and shrubs. Some up to 15-20 years old (very large plants). You pick what you want and they schedule your delivery. They come the day before to dig your hole (they send out to have any electric water or other utilities marked for safety) and on the day they show up. The digging crew puts the dirt onto canvas and they fill the holes back in and take away any excess dirt. Josh Gaults crew was fast and efficient. They left my property immaculate. Set me up for success with watering instructions and everything I needed. I purchased the warranty so they should succeed. I got a live oak and three holly trees and a lot of Asian jasmine. All planted and ready to succeed. While it was not "cheap" the value is there because they take care of everything. I recommend this business. read more

We walked in having a semi idea of what we wanted but the team at Moon Valley Nurseries (we worked with Eric Woods) helped take our ideas and put it into reality! He sat us down, looked at the direction our house sits and suggested plants for the exact areas we were wanting to add plants in. We showed him some inspiration pics and he showed us some plants on the computer he was thinking would work well based on our inspo and then went outside to take a look. He answered all our questions and even gave us a real life mock up of what it would lo like. He took the plants we liked, put them in a cart, and we arranged the look together. It was perfect!
