***Holy cow, this is uber long. Nutshell version: (1) incredibly helpful staff in 2 of my 3 interactions, where I had a pretty darn good idea of what I wanted; the third interaction was just average; (2) double-check your order; (3) very decent pricing. Not cheap or budget, but competitive (for the not-readily-available flowers I wanted anyway)**** So, my best friend of 15 years was having a super low-key wedding here in Austin -- I debated whether, despite her telling me she didn't want a bouquet, she really meant what she was saying, or she was just avoiding details for her own reasons. Being a wedding-lover, I think a bride is just incomplete without some sort of florals in there; as her best friend, I figured I could try my hand at making something, and if she hated it, I'd just have a lovely arrangement in my home. I researched the heck out of bouquets for ideas after she told me she loved callas; I knew she was a vibrant color in my head, so settled on Sunset or Mango or Orange Flame... but hopefully something red. I actually got Austin Flower Co. confused with the Flower Bucket, and dialed up FB to see if these were in stock, but their lovely phone person said no, but try Austin Flower Co. I called AFC -- okay, perhaps not the most effervescent of sales people on the phone, but 15 mins before closing, still pleasant and answered all my questions. Even suggested that I place an order just in case, and I could swing by just to get a visual before placing the order. When i went by on my lunch break, super busy -- but as one of the guys was writing my order, I somehow blurted out that it was for a wedding (which i was *so* trying to avoid mentioning, b/c that 7-letter word sure does quadruple prices!), and then a more senior staff person added some more suggestions for greenery. My guy took me to the next room to make sure of what I wanted, and we even popped back and forth between the back room and the other so as to consult the other senior guy (who was ringing people up). How awesome! The only snafu was when I went to pick up all my flowers I ordered -- the line was a little lengthy, a little slow, and when I double-checked my order in my car, I was short by a few stems. But I went right back inside, and there they were -- outside the box my order was placed in, but whatevs, I got them. I also think i got a discount somehow, b/c the price was lower than what I was originally quoted -- whoo-hoo! I came here for flowers for my wedding. They made what could have been a stressful experience very enjoyable. I was in the market for white calla lilies and something purple to go with it. I tried ordering a bride's bouquet short notice from Ben White Flower Co., which their website says they do, but a.) they could not get me calla lilies or irises, and b.) ultimately their designer was too busy to make the bouquet. This turned out to be a happy accident, since Austin Flower Company had the flowers I wanted and then some. I got my lilies and irises, plus veronica. They also had some rad dark purple small calla lilies, but I passed on them when the clerk warned me they were $30 a bunch. However, once he heard I was there for wedding bouquet materials, he offered his expertise, and demonstrated how to use hydrangea to set up the flowers in the bouquet without hassle - and so I went home and made a badass bouquet. In the end, he gave me a rad wedding present, too - slipping the purple lilies in the package with the rest of my purchases. read more

I LOVE Austin Flower Co.! It is very close to my work, so I can pop in after work and create a great arrangement for my honey and myself. Having a great place to get flowers was on my list of things I wanted when we moved to Austin and I am so happy to have found Austin Flower! Comes Mother's Day and what does Austin Flower Co do? They raise their prices for two dozen roses from $20 to $35. Huh? I have been a loyal customer for 10+ years but I will not darken their doorstep ever again. Why would a business gouge their loyal customers on Mother's Day? If you think it is OK to double prices just because it is Mother's Day --- well, OK for you. Screw these price gougers. read more

I've never met the owner of this place, but his people skills leave something to be desired. I was hoping I might get Austin Flower Company to donate some of their spent flowers to a nonprofit event I was hosting recently. This company boasts on their website that they generously donate to a number of charities, and since spent flowers are ones they're going to throw away at the end of the day, this donation wouldn't have cost them a thing. Working for a nonprofit that routinely requests donations, I'm very accustomed to hearing the word "No" from potential donors. And if a simple "No" was all I'd gotten, that would have been fine. But I emailed, called and left messages, and stopped by the store a number of times, and got no response from the owner. When after several days I finally managed to stop by the store when he was in, he wouldn't even speak to me directly. Instead he sent a rather surly employee out to dismiss me with a huffy "We don't do that," and a look of disdain that could have melted steel. I happen to know they DO "do that." They've donated to our events in the past even. And again, we weren't asking them for anything that would have cost them a dime-- only what they would have thrown out at the end of the day. Still, it's certainly his prerogative to say no. But instead giving me the courtesy of a face to face rejection (after ignoring me for almost a week,) he passed me off without so much as "thanks for your interest," to be brushed off by some indignant minion. I can get flowers anywhere, and I can get them for cheaper, and with less snotty attitude. read more

I got married Nov. 4th and had a completely DIY wedding. I did not want to spend a lot of money on flowers but I still wanted some pomp and paper flowers don't seem to be a cheaper option for what I needed. I searched around various websites like fiftyflowers for diy sets but I had a small wedding (28 people) and their bundles are huge. After deciding on the look I wanted and coming up with a recipe, I called and spoke to someone over the phone (I don't remember his name but he knows his flowers). I must have kept him on the phone for atleast 30 minutes on a busy Sunday. We went over cheaper options for some of the more expensive flowers and I placed my order. I spent HALF of what I was planning to spend with fiftyflowers but I'm almost certain I got just as many flowers since we changed switched out certain varieties for cheaper options! And he was totally right about the cheaper options. The ranunculus (sp?) was GORGEOUS. And they dry amazingly. Who knew that??? A few days before my wedding I picked up 3 really large boxes of flowers, a lot more than what I was expecting for the price, and another really nice person (lady with really short black hair) gave me the specific care for each and every flower and they definitely threw in a few surprises for me! I'm not sure why they are so nice in there but I had a wedding weekend in which my family members spent valuable time together making flower arrangements and I know they loved it! I will have those memories forever and I'm so glad I decided not to use a florist and was able to put those funds into the weekend experience for my family. read more

I went here to by some flowers for DIY centerpieces for my wedding. They had a great variety of flowers and greenery- and I got some really interesting stuff. Their hydrangeas were a little beat up and if you want a number of the same color I'd come earlier in the day. Other than that, checkout was speedy and no complaints. Also, the parking situation is good. Note: be careful googling how to get here! I have to wonder if some of the folks giving horrid reviews got confused and chose the wrong Yelp listing! I visited three times in the course of ordering flowers for my wedding, and each visit was absolutely beyond reproach. I was getting kind of despondent in my options for flowers, thinking I'd have to spend a few hundred dollars for even the "cheapest" routes -- ordering bulk online or ordering from Central Market -- till I stumbled on Austin Flower Co. When I first visited, Dillon (sp?) walked me through the entire process of ordering, followed me through the cooler to give me info on the flowers I was interested in, and even gave me warnings like, "We may not be able to get exactly that species/color/size when you order, but we'll put in special requests to get it as close as possible." Of course -- flowers aren't man-made, even if they're farmed, and I'd rather have good quality than exact color or size. I went back later to order and had the same wonderful experience, even though I ordered less than $150 worth, a small order for them, I'm sure. Dillon told me how long to expect the flowers to last, how to care for them in transport and once I got home and began arrangements, all in great detail. When they came in, I got a call the day before I was scheduled to pick them up telling me they couldn't get mini-gerbers in 2 of the colors I'd requested -- which Dillon had specifically warned me might be a problem when I ordered. When I went to pick them up, I found they had substituted pom daisies of the same color as an option. Dillon opened all the boxes, made sure I was happy with each batch of flowers, and asked how I wanted to handle the mini-gerber issue. He again went into great detail in how to transport and care for the flowers. The flowers themselves -- roses of two colors, gerbers, some mini-gerbers, and pom daisies -- were GORGEOUS and stayed fresh until we stopped putting them in water (a few days after the wedding when we went out of town). Those left in water were still fresh enough to enjoy when we returned, 9 days after I first picked them up. I cannot recommend Austin Flower Co. too highly!! read more

I brought my 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter to pick out some flowers for mom for Valentine's Day. they had a great selection and my children enjoyed picking each flower to male a bouquet. My son started to collect the flower petals on the ground and wanted more. He asked them if they had more. With out hesitation the young gentlemen couldn't find any. so when my son was looking he grabbed some fresh flowers and pulled the petals off and gave them to my son. Had a decent experience. Went in for flowers for a small wedding reception, just wanted to add a few last minute details to table centerpieces. Had questions about the prices and although there were workers around in the back unloading, I found it difficult to have the questions I had answered. There was a young man who was helping in the unloading area and all of the customers around me were going to him but he seemed preoccupied. Would love to have had someone right there to answer or have prices displayed. Will be returning as I don't know of another place that sells flowers in bulk but I am not looking forward to it. I love this place so much. I've been a fan since I moved to the area a year ago. They have huge selection of various flowers and plants to pick from. I especially love that you can step into their cooler and basically create your own bouquets. Everyone here is super nice and helpful and I've done 4 different pickups during the pandemic for dried flowers, topical flowers (not found anywhere else), and plants. I'd never been to AFC before, but thought I would pop in to see if I could find some pretty flowers at a reasonable price for a friend's birthday. The shop was clean, tidy and I was greeted when I walked in with my 3 yo son. We had a peek around and then went into the walk-in fridge to look at the rest of the flowers. The selection was a nice size and they all looked healthy and I didn't notice any with brown edges or drooping blossoms. I found the flowers I wanted and the young man behind the counter wrapped them up nicely and was super sweet to my son, asking him if the flowers were for something special and making sure my son felt like 'a big boy.' Though staff members aren't really in the business of recommending how to put things together, they were still helpful when I was looking to price things out. If you've got a) an eye for assembling flowers and b) an interest in saving some cash this is the way to go. We spent a total of $225 for all our flowers (which made 5 bouquets, 5 boutonnières and 15 center pieces - and because I goofed on calculations 2 dozen extra roses) - for comparison, a quote from another vendor for 5 BASIC bouquets and boutonnieres ONLY without centerpieces or anything else was over $350. read more

I thought I'd support a local business by purchasing a birthday bouquet here for a friend. Upon entering the shop, there were 5 employees standing around. Not one asked if I needed help.
