My girlfriend's sister & niece are in town visiting from Portland. We just took them to Aurora Borealis for brunch & suggest you skip this place altogether. We walked in to a nearly empty restaurant around noon on a Sunday. Service was friendly, but no where to be found the majority of our visit with no check ins. When our food arrived all 4 of our meals were subpar to unacceptable! The steak was overcooked, berries on the waffle were brown& spoiled, the bacon was old & undercooked and my burger was smothered in a sauce I requested be left off and the meat was raw in the middle! I'd like to support this local business, but this experience makes it really difficult! read more

I am disappointed with this place. I ordered wine and got it in a plastic cup, was told that there had been too many broken glasses and now serve in plastic cups. My wine was 9 dollars and not even 4 ounces! Music was good but takes an hour at least to get food and that is every time I have been here. The waite staff are nice but very inefficient. This is a great little hole in the wall venue that offers good food and a downstairs performance and game area. We have had our jazz groups perform there a few times. The stage is kinda set off to the side so tables and seating seems a little offset but it's great for families to gather to watch a show while still having a side room to play games and get out of the main performance room. As a long time Shoreline resident who is well aware of Shoreline's lack of quality restaurants and night life, I really WANT to love this place. But so far, I haven't found a real reason to, which makes me sad. I want this business to succeed! I've gone in 3 times and had mediocre experience each time. A friend and I went in yesterday for breakfast, and neither of us were impressed. I ordered the french toast with scrambled eggs and sausage. There was nothing special about the eggs or sausage, and the french toast was dry, tough, and pretty flavorless. My friend ordered the biscuits and gravy, and she said there was not enough gravy. The server also didn't check on us after bringing out our food. She only came back 30+ minutes later with the check. It was at that point, after we'd eaten most of our meal, that she asked how we were doing or if we wanted more coffee. So at this point, I don't feel inclined to go back for their breakfast. I'll probably stick to Leena's Cafe in North City. I've also gone in twice now for dinner, which was a slightly better experience but nothing spectacular. The first time I had a burger (which was pretty standard, along with the service) and the second time I had a steak salad. When asked how I wanted my steak cooked, I said: medium well. The server got nervous and told me they couldn't do that, so I would need to pick either medium or well. I ended up going with well done, but that was reason enough not to order the steak salad again. I know this is a new business and the employees are probably still learning how to provide excellent service; similarly, the chefs are probably still looking to perfect their recipes, but I worry that this place won't last long if they don't step it up soon. I'm still rooting for you, Aurora Borealis, but there are some things you should work through if you really want to become a great spot for the locals! So far, other than the ambiance and the fact that I want to support a local Shoreline establishment, I haven't found a real reason to come back. We arrived for breakfast & not sure if it's open or not since the lot was empty. Interior had a bunch of round lighting & it's dark inside. Very modern but basically sparse with no wall decor or paintings. Could use one in the fireplace. It feels like it caters to younger group rather than the retired group who loves to eat out for breakfast. Haha. We were offered fresh squeezed orange juice, not mentioning the price of a small glass. Well, it's $5! My partner had eggs Benedict & I had strawberry waffles and cream with bacon. It's not the usual set of orders, mostly extra price for bacon, etc. Coffee was not that spectacular. was awful & told our server. She tried correcting it but still tasted very bitter, not the kind of strong coffee we normally get from Patty's Eggnest (Everett) & Biscuits Cafe (Federal Way). Anyway our bill came to almost $50, $10 more than we normally pay. We don't mind paying more for good food. Returning? Not sure but if we do, this review will be updated. read more

The former "Drift on Inn" on Aurora has been remodeled and turned into my favorite new restaurant. I'm not a restaurant fan in general, but I really like this one and would like to return and try more items on their menu. But just as important to me, the interior is new and modern, and there is ample parking along the side facing the neighboring casino and in the back. The waitress was attentive and conversational, and the food exceeded my expectations. It showed some genuine finesse and attention to detail in taste and presentation. I really hope this restaurant makes it. I had the macaroni and cheese, which was elevated by using white cheddar cheese and perfectly cooked (not dry) carnitas on top. Even the tortilla soup showed attention to detail that I am not accustomed to seeing. Finally, it may not be obvious as it is next door to a casino, but this is a very family friendly restaurant. MEAT IS NOT CLEAN! Service was a nightmare! You don't want to go to a place that has bad quality meat. My family and I ordered steaks, and no body has avoided the suffer from the stomach issues the night and the day after that dinner. Our server kept forgetting things, spill drinks on the table, didn't bring silverware and etc...She was smiling at the table and rolling her eyes immediately when turning around. Moreover, the way she boxing food is tossing all the garbages I left on the plate on the TOP of my food. It went into trash can after seeing how she boxed up. If you don't like to be a server, just simply change the job. We were being respectful and left the tips. However, being pretty and rude to deceive for tips is not the proper way in the catering industry. Very bad experience! This place has a bit of a strange look, but don't be put off by the marquee sign outside that gives a "strip club" vibe. Inside it's a vast seating area; mostly tables and several booths. Huge bar. Very clean and bright (almost TOO bright.) There's a performance area downstairs where they have shows, apparently. I stopped in for lunch after a shopping trip at nearby Sky Nursery. The menu is pretty extensive and the food was good with ample portions. The service was fantastic! Our server "Malia" (I'm guessing at the spelling) was warm, funny, attentive and really helpful. The only reason I didn't give it a "5" is that there's something funky going on with their bar. The soda in my friend's mixed drink was flat, as was the tonic in mine and the flavor of the vodka tonic was "off". Malia brought fresh drinks and while the new one was bubbly, that funky taste was still there. I'm suspecting dirty lines in their centrally-distributed system? We gave up on mixed drinks and went with Prosecco poured from a real wine bottle and those were great. Came here for breakfast with my family and only a few other tables had customers. It took a while for the food to come out and half of our orders got mixed up. My California Eggs Benedict was well done, but it should have been runny. The flavor was there, but the technique was just wrong. We also got two orders of the fish and chips and they were good. There was also a mix up with the bill. There's definitely room for improvement. We have lived in Shoreline for thirty-two years, and lamented the shortage of good restaurants the entire time. To be fair, it's a challenging location. Shoreline has no charming little town square. Most commercial establishment are on Aurora Avenue. A lot of people think of prostitution, drug-dealing, and homelessness. Out of the blue, we have a high-quality family-friendly restaurant. And it's moderately priced! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner! It doesn't stop there. There's a performance space downstairs that accommodates bands and events. They have trivia night and open mike. The decor is comfortable and tasteful. But the best thing is that the staff is unfailingly friendly and welcoming. Five stars easily. read more

Waitress hit my baby's car seat that was next to me On The floor, so we moved her to the top of the table since the chairs aren't wide enough to put the car seat in there. And she still managed to bump the car seat and swinging her arms around it. Not very mindful. My sister in law ordered a medium stake, it came out so bloody it was soaking her fries. We asked the server if they could cook it more, she took the plate and moved the bloody fries to a different plate by TOUCHING them. And brought the fries back to us with the blood smeared on the plate. All the burgers were flavorless, as well as the stake and chicken strips. Honestly the fries where more seasoned! The cheese wasn't melted in my Father in law's omelette either, how does that even happen! She left our checks on a table behind us, and when checking the receipt we were over charged because "the system is suppose to take care of the price differences for happy hour", no you are a waitress double check to make sure it is correct. And when we were trying to pay or even ask a question about our checks there was NOBODY in sight! Needed a nice breakfast in Shoreline. Usually go to Edmonds (in spite of the prices) for a civil meal. Now we got this place! Affordable, as relative to all other breakfast eateries, and the food comes out looking like a five star hotel restaurant. Wife and I were shy to try it out, as the area on 99 can feel a bit grungy. Truth be told, I felt like the Karate kid going into Miyagi's home-the decor is clean, modern, and an oasis on that strip. I hesitated to recommend this place, as I believe it is highly possible that it will "blow up" once breakfast folks find this place. Had a Monday steak special once for dinner and had my mind blown as well. Do yourself a favor-"Discover" this place before the word really gets out. Memories of the Drift On Inn and the general seedy vibe of Aurora kept us from giving this place a fair chance but we finally stopped in for dinner and I'm glad we did. We have a three year old and they were ready with crayons, special kids cup and fresh pumpkin bread (on the house!) to keep her happy so that's a big win already. We had a salmon salad, kalbi ribs with veggies and kids fish & chips and each dish was tasty, good portions and reasonably priced. The restaurant was clean and comfortable, waitstaff was friendly and the manager made a huge effort to chat with us and make sure we were taken care of. We'll definitely be back! read more

I've been eagerly wanting to try out this new restaurant option as a local Shoreline resident. As of writing this review, I was informed that the menus are being updated, based on my experience with ordering dinner. I was greeted by very friendly staff upon entering and allowed me to sample a cider on tap that I eventually ordered. I had my sites set in the Mac N Cheese Entree that, based on the description, would be a hearty meal. Come to find out, this particular dish had been changed and not yet reflected on the menu. The sides appeared generous with baked or mashed potatoes, vegetables, and a side salad or soup. However, the potato and vegetable sides were no longer part of the meal and I was still charged $16. The side soup (clam chowder) although good, the portion was cup-sized and not much to complement the main dish. The Mac N Cheese was quite delicious, but for the portion of food I received, I feel was a bit overpriced for $16. If they had kept either the potato or vegetable side, or provided a bowl of soup, then the price would have been a little more palatable. For this meal, minus one star for the price. Minus another star for lack of menu coordination. If menu changes are planned, please honor the current menu till you can provided updated menus to better reflect pricing and portions. read more

This place is really a treat. Been there twice now; once for dinner with a small party and again for breakfast with about 15 people. Both times I've been impressed. Prices are great for the quality and quantity of food that you get here. You won't leave hungry. The staff are all really friendly. Dianna and the rest of the staff handled the big party with ease and we were never really waiting for anything. I'm interested in checking out an event that they put on, be it live music, live-band karaoke, or a comedy show. This place would be great to watch a Seahawks game at with TV's all over the place. They were good, not great. Decent tap list. It is a bright, open, almost upscale interior. We will definitely go back. The breakfast menu looked promising. We've been back twice since. We tried it before COVID. The decaf coffee was the only good offering. I requested a tofu scramble because I'm a vegetarian and have wonderful ones before. This one was awful. I told the manager about the spices she needed, and she was receptive. We went back a couple of weeks ago to see if they got it right. They had taken tofu off the menu (probably not much call for it). The avocado toast was almost too tough to cut, and my husband's omelet was mediocre at best. I had to wave our server down to get a coffee refill, and she said, "Fabulous!" to every request, no matter what it was. We won't go back. read more

Had ONE great breakfast in the upper dinning room, and was served a cold Eggs Benedict the next time I ate there. Have attended several music events there as well. Imagine receiving a steak dripping with red blood...It made my stomach turn and is a complete health and safety hazard to the consumer. The order was also over an hour late due to an internet issue at the restaurant. I called and spoke with Jarod initially. However, this is where it gets really bad...David, the bartender, began yelling in the background. His opinion: too bad, so sad, and WOMEN just like to complain. While Jarod is still talking to me, David grabbed the phone from Jarod and begins berating me (the customer that received a raw steak an hour late). David is just a bartender - not a manager, not the cook, not involved with the order in any way whatsoever. Aurora Borelis management, do you want David to represent your company and restaurant?? Sexist, misogynistic, and violent behavior should never be tolerated. This is unacceptable behavior towards a customer and an insult to all women. While this isn't always bad if you're eating at Denny's, for example, the prices don't reflect Denny's quality food (and I'd say Denny's is a little better). I'd drop this another star but I came for lunch and we didn't sample the Breakfast menu. +1 for friendly staff. Everyone seemed happy to be there and eager to help me. -4 for forgetting about me... we came in as a four top and the other three received their orders in a reasonable period of time. Not me. I didn't get my order until the wait staff noticed 30 minutes in that it never came out. I would have been happy to ask for my food but no one stopped by to see how we were doing. Fantastic live music venue in Shoreline. Always have great bands alternating through. Excellent service as well as food and beverages. My only wish is that they would return barstools to the pony bar in front of the service bar. I totally appreciate that guests are to order drinks and food from the main bar and it needs to be kept clear of stools but the pony bar would be fine for seating. I would go to hear even more bands if I could go alone on the nights the wife and friends chose not to. I just hate sitting alone at a table. Otherwise, this place deserves high praise. read more
