As good as it gets without a car wash. I finally called Auburn Auto Doctors after fretting over quotes for a repair from a half dozen reputable local shops. AAD beat the best cost by one third and the dealer by double that. Wow. The repair was quick, and Colin was responsive and knowledgeable. They did a thorough check of the vehicle and provided me with suggestions and pricing for some other minor items as well as catching two recalls the previous owner hadn't had done. Oddly, it was less expensive to have them change my windshield wipers than to do them myself. A boon was to receive an email and an online portal that showed the diagnostics and recommendations for the vehicle. Btw, I did the free recalls at the dealer where they tried to sell me $1500 of service I didn't need, according to AAD. I'm glad to finally find a shop I can rely on! read more

We had the kids packed in the car last summer.... trucking home on I-80 to Virginia City from visiting family in Sonoma County. We stopped for a smoothie and to fill up on gas in Auburn. I noticed the the coolant was low, so I bought some more, then pulled into the park to let the kids run around and refill the fluids. As I poured coolant in, it drained almost as fast onto the ground. Uh oh.... So I did a quick scan on Yelp, and found highly rated Auburn Auto Doctors just around the corner... close enough for me to dump a gallon of coolant in and drive there before it was gone! lol... I explained the issue... they took a quick look and found that it was a busted heater hose. Unfortunately, the closest replacement part was in the Bay Area, and couldn't be delivered til after the weekend. We explained that the kids were at the end of their rope and that we just needed to get the family home. The Auto Doctors came up with a work around, and took a break from the bigger projects that they were working on to get it fixed in about 10 minutes and get us back on the road... charging us just for the parts and time it took. Very appreciative of their flexibility to accommodate us and get us back on the road, even though there is little chance we will be able to give them more business since we don't live nearby. Brought my car in for repairs. Was told I needed a new battery and a new alternator. They were able to make the repairs in a timely matter. Almost a 5 star job. But... After driving my car around no more than 3 days the belt started whining, which it has never done before. Before I could bring my car back in for inspection to Auburn Auto Doctors the belt broke and damaged the power steering pump in the process. Auto Auto Doctors told me that the belt breaking had nothing to do with the alternator install and refused to make the repairs needed to fix everything on their own dime. They felt I should have to pay for the repairs. I had the power steering pump and everything checked out at another auto repair shop in Auburn. The cost of repairing the the belt and power steering pump exceeded the cost of the battery and alternator install so I would say Auburn Auto Doctors did more harm than good, and cost me an extra $800+ dollars after repairs and tow. I'll give them two stars over one since the did the work so fast. But if you are looking for an honest mechanic look elsewhere. read more

I paid $125. for diagnostics. They wanted another $125 to further the diagnostics. They said I needed a $100. Oil change (not related to the problem that I was having). They suggested a repair that would be about $3,000. But not yet confirmed. I pulled my vehicle and took it to another repair shop for a second opinion and they said my batteries were bad and they diagnosed my problem quickly. I would not recommend the Auburn Auto Doctors and they should have refunded me the diagnostics fee because they failed to diagnose the problem. read more

I saw the good reviews so I called and asked if they would look at the front end of my ford and let me know how the suspension looked. When I arrived they asked me to sign a work order for $125. I told them they should have let me know about this fee when we spoke on the phone (and admittedly I should have asked). I declined their service. read more

Wayne and Rick are some of the most honest guys in town. Brought my 2001 Toyota Tundra truck into see them after it started making some weird noises while on the freeway. They fixed everything that needed to be done and I didn't have to give them my first born child. I took my 2002 Prius to Auburn Auto Doctors with a broken trunk latch. Within thirty minutes, Scott (factory trained and certified Toyota mechanic) had diagnosed the problem. The truly amazing thing about this job was that the broken part was a small piece within the lock cylinder. They could have charged me for an entirely new cylinder. Instead, they put a new part in the old cylinder. This part cost $2. Basically I paid for labor. These guys are honest. read more

I have been taking my Subaru to Auburn Auto Doctors for the past 1.5 years after experiencing horrible service, quality and a lack of honesty from several dealers and mechanics in the Sacramento Area. Rick and Wayne and Colin-- front desk--- are honest people whom I trust. Do I enjoy commuting to get my car serviced, not really, but do I feel safe in my car, absolutely. After moving back to Sacramento, in 2008, and taking my car to a dealership I started needing work on various things, like my gear shift wouldn't work, the mud flap fell off my car, and a fuse went out in the dashboard.... random things that cost around $200 every year. I had bought a Subaru for its excellent quality and longevity and was starting to think it was a lemon. Now, that I have an honest mechanic my car has only needed routine maintenance and the "random" items of work that were needed have disappeared. I'm so happy that I found Auburn Auto Doctors. My girlfriend and I were driving back from Reno when our car overheated. We called Auburn Auto Doctors and explained our situation. Collin told us he'd be able to see us right away but warned us to be careful not to overheat the car too much. He squeezed us in, figured out the problem with the car (broken radiator cap), fixed the problem and had us back on the road to San Jose within 3 hours. This was my second time at Auburn Auto Doctors. The first was a used car inspection which they did a good job of. This time I needed to take my car in for an oil change and tire rotation. The last time I did this I took it to an oil change ($29) place then to a tire place for the rotation (free) . I did it this way to save a few bucks. This was before I had heard about Auburn Auto Doctors. The reason I was going there was was they had an oil change and tire rotation special listed on there web site (its still listed as of today). For the same price as I had been paying and getting it done at one time seemed like a convenient time saver. I called Colin and mentioned the add and made the appointment. Here is where I start getting a little suspicious....That morning I arrive at Auburn Auto Doctor and Colin does my paperwork and the estimate is for $60+. He was charging me for each service separately, seems he forgot about the add that I mentioned during my call. I mention the add and he says oh ya..Ive been after the owner to remove that. He then recalculated the estimate and everything seems ok. Colin then exits to the service area and returns and says they can't do the tire rotation because the car has a tire pressure warning system and they don't have the reset tool. I think to myself that this is just an excuse to get out of doing the rotation but don't say anything. I'm a little bummed because I'm going to wait an hour for an oil change (usually only about 1/2 hour at the oil change place) and still have to go to the tire place to get my rotation done and wait another hour. I leave for about an hour and return to pick up my car. Colin recommends returning back in 3K miles for my next oil change. I mention that the manufacturer recommends 7500 miles. Colin says that many newer cars can burn a quart of oil every 1000 miles and typically hold about 4-5 quarts. So do the math and in 4000 miles you don't have any oil left in your engine. He mentions the Subaru brand as one that does this. Again I don't want to get in an argument over this. I'm now thinking "really"....a new Subaru burns a quart of oil every thousand miles? I don't think so... I leave thinking everyone is this day and age is aware of the push to up-sale everything....At the bank at the restaurant everyone is always trying to get you to buy something extra. But I didn't expect this at the Auburn Auto Doctors given the many good reviews. I called the tire place and inquired about the tire pressure warning system and they say you don't need a tool. They say most of the systems reset automatically. So there you have it. I probably won't return to Auburn Auto Doctor's because frankly I question there honesty. I waited about 2 weeks before writing this review to see if the $29 oil change and tire rotation special listed on their web page would be removed and it has not. For me I still have too many questions and not enough answers about the Auburn Auto Doctors.. read more

After a second incredibly positive experience at this shop, I just had to find some way to thank these guys for their amazing service. So here goes: I needed a new mechanic after some very negative experience elsewhere in town. I found this shop through an ad in the local paper. Decided to try them out. Never have I felt so good about a decision. While many auto technicians have tried to take advantage of my lack of knowledge (I am relatively young and female... an easy target as it were), these guys had no problem explaining to me how different systems in my car worked and were upfront about what work needed to be done and how soon. They worked with my schedule, and my budget, to keep me on the road and safe. They did not talk down to me, try to sell me things I didn't need, or forget to return my phone calls like some other mechanics I have been to. As others have said, I left feeling confident in the work I they did for me, and will definitely be recommending them to friends and family in the area as well as returning for any future work I need. Most trustworthy auto shop I have been to ever. Just to note, I initially had an oil change, and returned to have my timing belt replaced, as well as some hoses that had been leaking. Very happy both times with the quality of work. On a mostly irrelevant note, their waiting room is small, but also quite nice. It is comfortable and somewhat separated from the rest of the office, which is nice. read more

Some of the best service I have ever had from a mechanic! I traveled to Auburn from Reno to check out a Subaru I was going to buy. Before making the purchase, I wanted to get it checked by a good mechanic. Wayne and Rick graciously squeezed me into their very busy schedule. Rather than sit in the waiting room, Wayne drove my friend and I to a great restaurant then we were picked up when the inspection was complete. Rick was very thorough and he managed to pick up on some issues with the car that could have cost me thousands to have fixed later. Rick really seems to know his stuff about Subarus. They said my car was good except my water pump was leaking. They fixed it and it was a good price. They wear gloves so that when they get in your car they can take the gloves off and have clean hands, so there won't be gross engine hands all over your steering wheel. They give good thought to there customers, are extremely friendly, extraordinarily fast, and understanding. They are the best and they are going to be my mechanic for as long as I have a car.
