Amazing selection of gifts in a huge store! I found so many cute things but I won't ever go back. The service was AWFUL. I was there for over an hour and not a single employee said a word to me. Not even "hi" as I entered the store, even though multiple employees were standing near the door chatting amongst themselves. It was 2pm on a Friday so it wasn't very crowded but there were a ton of people working. I stood in front of the socks for almost 10 minutes waiting for assistance (per the sign) and not one person came over. I honestly haven't experienced this shitty customer service during a shopping trip anywhere else. Hopefully the owners read this and make some changes. read more

My favorite boutique in Austin! It's huge, and has a great variety of artsy vendors--from jewelry to clothing to art to kids stuff to home goods...I never leave here without purchasing something. I LOVE the huge sale section in the back now too! The staff is helpful and welcoming. There's always a mimosa and/or cookies for the shoppers and plenty of good deals/discounts. I have found some really cute and unique clothes and jewelry here that I now wear all the time. Some of the jewelry seems a little pricey, but it's also a local store so I understand and don't mind supporting. If you buy a go-local card here, they give you a discount and a free OPI nail polish. Definitely worth visiting. My only minor complaint is that they also sell things like those "keep Austin weird" tie dye shirts that you see EVERYWHERE and some Roxy brand clothes. Its not that I hate that stuff at all, I just feel that because those items are so unoriginal, it changes the vibe of the store a little and may slightly devalue it. My boyfriend and I stopped in here a few weekends ago to just check things out. I'd read reviews that it is like an IRL Etsy. It kind of is, but I don't want to downplay the curation effort! They are carrying high quality consumable items (candles, hair and beauty products), and a lot of things are handmade. They also have clothes, jewelry, accessories, and things for the home. It's like a lifestyle blog come to life. The one thing that struck me as odd was that there was an entire rack of Roxy clothes. Like the surf brand whose t-shirts you used to wear in middle school, only now they make stuff to wear to festivals. It made me feel old. It's the kind of place I need to return to again and again, because I think they are probably turning over a lot of stock and I had a distinct feeling that there were some buried treasures just waiting to be found. read more

Really cute shop with lots of quirky items such as books, apparel, jewelry, stationery and soaps etc. I bought two adorable cards and my sister bought some beautifully hand crafted gold earrings. Stuff can be pretty pricey, but a lot of the things are handmade and it's nice to know that some jewelry collections share their profits with non-profit organizations for hospitals and various aid in poverty-stricken countries. They have a lot of neat souvenirs from pens, glasses, mugs, caps, postcards, mint tin boxes etc. with Austin related themes and I actually bought some nice hand carved soaps for my family. I really liked that they had FRESH HOT baked chocolate chip cookies and wine in store so that clients can enjoy a snack while shopping! The way I like to describe Atown is that it's a lot like all the best parts of SoCo, all squished into one awesome store. They have clothing, jewelry, home decor, art, novelty/gift items, OPI nail polish (squeee!), and pet items. Much of the inventory comes from local independent designers, which is socially responsible and an excellent way to set yourself apart as a retail store. Even cooler is that they somehow manage to carry such a wide variety of items with it looking like an non-cohesive mess. The tie that binds is that it's an "Austin Lifestyle Store" -- so everything is cute, quirky, creative, fun, and that includes some great souvenir items. It's definitely worth checking out, whether you're local or a passer-by trying to capture the essence of ATX before leaving town. read more

Sure enough, I was instantly taken and I found gifts for her, my stepdaughter and myself. I rarely write reviews but I had to for this store. I was extremely disappointed by the customer service I received here. I felt as if I was being racially profiled and the ladies in the store were "eyeing" me to make sure I didn't steal anything. It is such a shame because the merchandise and ambiance at the store are amazing! I went in today to simply exchange one of their necklaces that literally fell off my neck while I was walking. They were very rude and we're just short of accusing me that I did something to the necklace. In fact, one woman said, "well how do I know you didn't break it???" Excuse me? I tried to be polite as long as I could. Then I wasn't. I insisted they exchange, which they finally relented. It's completely inexcusable to treat a customer in that manner. I was excited to do some more shopping as I think they have really cute, different things. I will never stop in there again. I will be telling all my friends about my experience. I drove straight to Blue Elephant, not realizing it's a sister store, and had a completely different experience. Very helpful employees in there. Atown has great gift finds and unique cards for everyone on your list and for every occasion. The store front appears modest in its strip mall location, but it's cavernous inside contains rooms within rooms of clothes, scarves, jewelry (everything from handcrafted items made by local artists to fabulous well known designers), toys, kitschy items, wall art, quality scented candles (I spend an unreasonable amount of time in this aisle), home decor and so much more. Along with stocked favorites, new and seasonal gift items are always coming in so it's never the same shopping experience twice. On my recent visit I discovered knitted faux taxidermy mounted animal heads (including a Texas longhorn!), sock monkey slippers, and gorgeous made-in-Austin glass blown Christmas ornaments. read more

This store is so huge, like deceivingly big. It's jam packed full of super cute clothes, jewelry, and gifts. I love coming here to find little gifts for friends' birthdays. They also sell hair products from Bumble and Bumble, different cosmetic brands, and fun nail polishes. There's a lot of local made jewelry and clothes. I'm a fan of their cards. A town: the Austin lifestyle store, right? They have some really cute stuff. I am especially a fan of the accessories that are locally made and huge OPI selection. I am a huge fan of the "Material" brand dresses that are made locally of vintage fabrics. They often have wine and fresh cookies available to the clients. The people that work there are super friendly. My only qualm with the place is that it advertises itself as being Austincentric, but a very small amount of their apparel is actually made locally. In fact, an overwhelming majority of the clothing with the "A town" label on it was made in China. Don't get me wrong, it's cute and all, but I don't know if it's really keeping Austin weird. read more

This has been my go-to for locally made gifts but unfortunately due to a customer service experience today, I'll be shopping elsewhere. Last week, I bought a $6 super ball for my son that lights up. Within 48 hours, the light on the ball burnt out. I just took it back today expecting them to easily exchange it but they said I needed the receipt and there was nothing they could do. For a $6 bouncy ball. They said they couldn't trust that I actually bought it there. I didn't save the receipt because I was expecting the ball to work for longer than 2 days. I had intended to buy gifts for 7 women and one baby today but after such a rigid response to a simple request, I decided to shop for those gifts elsewhere. Customer service makes a difference, especially in a shop that carries local goods. read more

Cute place with clothes and Austin memorabilia. It's a good spot to bring out-of-towners shopping for souvenirs and cutesy items. Many of their items are from local artists so it's nice to be able to support to community. Their stuff ranges from jewelry to shirts to artwork to unique kitchen items. They have Austin T shirts, smelly good stuff like lotions, fragrances, and soaps, a fun $5 earring area, plus socks, jewelry and trinkets of all kinds, cards, bags, clothes, magnets, plants even. Along with the great clothes, perfume, and accessories you will find there, you will find great costumer service. I absolutely love this place, and as I walked in for the first time, gasped wishing I could buy every single thing. The clearance section was amazing too unlike most. Everything was 50-85% off. And we all know how the clearance section is made up of the clothes not wanted because they are ugly, well even the clothes in clearance were cute, good quality clothes. The only thing I could complain about are original prices mostly because I'm a teenager working a minimum wage job. read more

I bought a bottle of perfume from here about. A month ago. The sprayer was broken and no perfume was coming ot of the bottle. Went this morning to exchange it and before I could even explain what was going on the worker just kept saying we don't do returns. I explained what happened and she said they wouldn't do anything about it. I explained that the store should have a policy with the manufacturer to replace damaged items and the worker kept explain that it was against their policy. Really?! I bought a damaged product from your store and you don't even look after your customers? I called customer service for the perfume company and it was explained to me that they do have a policy with the store and that they bought it was weird that they wouldn't help me since that policy was in place. Well great! So Atown was one of my favorite stores but after this I won't be going back. read more

I loved the section with the tea towels. The girls working were really nice and even helped me out by gift wrapping my package. They have wine and cookies while your shop. Good vibes here.
