A-Town part of the family that owns the mid-priced clothing stores Luxe and Blue Elephant. The focus of A-Town is more of locally sourced knick-knacks with some clothes and accessories in the mix. The style here is more hippie/boho and most of the clothes are polyester. Spend some time browsing the store for unique gifts and trinkets. What I come here mostly for is their huge sales. About twice a year, they hold a massive sale of clothes and accessories from all their locations (A-Town, Luxe, Blue Elephant) at deeply discounted prices. Unlike large chains that can ship their clothes elsewhere after the season ends, local boutiques have to sell what they buy so you may find pieces on the sale rack over and over again. Get on their mailing list if you are a bargain shopper. There is parking to the front and side of the store. Parking in the front can lead prove difficult to leave when Burnet Road gets busy. The curtains on dressing rooms do not provide much privacy. Service is always friendly and they often have refreshments near the register. read more

I adore all the local and local themed goods at Atown. They carry cute clothes, Texas themed tees, fun jewelry, fingernail polish, and all kinds of niche items. If you have a hard to shop for friend or people visiting out of town, this is a must stop. read more

On my second week in Austin I decided to treat myself to some mush needed local shopping. My first stop on the tour was Atown and what a great find. The store is so much bigger than it looks like from the inside. Today they had massive racks of clothes set up outside on this picturesque Austin day. The clothes and cute and priced like a boutique keeping between $30-$80 give or so. I wouldn't mid having some of these pieces in my wardrobe. Inside you'll find unique and locally made earrings, necklaces, bracelets, scarves, knic knacs, local cards, baby clothes, and cutesy gifts for every occasion. I could spend hours and hours perusing every item in this shop and even then I don't think I would have seen everything. If you've met me you know that I'm a sucker for anything local and a one of a kind piece of jewelry, usually earrings and this place has jumped to the top of my list for a place to find such items. Accessory prices range from $5-$70, a little something for everyone. On my future visits to Austin I can see becoming a regular here and continuing with my collection of jewelry. read more

As much as I LOVE Atown and enjoy supporting a local business, my past visit has put a really bad taste in my mouth. Typically, I just browse, and buy a couple things here and there. This past week, I had a mission - I wanted to find something new to wear for a date. I knew heading over there after work, I might be in a time crunch. As a former retail worker, I ALWAYS pay attention to the hours (close at 8pm during the weekday). When I walked in, I was greeted friendly - she asked me if I was looking for something specific. I made sure I told the employee I was aware of the time, and would make it quick. As I sped shopped, I got to the back where I was RUDELY told by an employee that I had 35 minutes to shop. I gathered a couple items, and she asked to start a fitting room for me, which I agreed. When it came to trying the items on, she had put my items in a fitting room without a mirror!!!! REALLY?!?! I've used several fitting rooms at Atown, and there are AT LEAST 4 other fitting rooms WITH MIRRORS THAT WERE OPEN that she could have put my items in. Luckily, I found a few items, but by checkout, I was so mad I was probably not as nice to the employee in the front. When I worked at a local boutique, NO MATTER what time a customer came in (2 minutes til closing or after), we had to kill them with kindness, and assure them they were our priority. I'll continue to shop at Atown, but probably won't continue to rave about the fantastic customer service. read more

Love the selection and I've shopped here a lot. Here's the deal breaker. Made 3 purchases over a month ago, weeks apart. They decided to take all $200 at once, over a month later. Ended up with $50 in overdraft fees because they didn't space it out like I did. These people really need to keep up with credit card charges. This shop just opened this week, I'm so excited to be the first to review it because it is really incredible. Atown (Austin Lifestyle Store, I think is the subtitle?) is A-mazing. They focus on local art and products, and even though they're still building up their stock, what they have already is easily one of the best boutiques for accessories and home goods I've seen in Austin. The prices are extremely conservative considering it's largely produced by local artisans, and they even have a rack of precious $5 earrings (5 for $20) where I picked up a whole slew of gifts to send to friends. They have handmade clothes (dresses ranging about $40-$50), luxurious hand-made bath products & candles priced around $15 or so (which sounds expensive until you compare to say, Victoria's Secret, which is mass produced and not that great), and a range of wall art as cheap as $30 a piece. In addition to the local stuff, they also fill in with some funky not-so-local stuff, but rather than filling up on the Fred line (which is always cute, but so prolific you can get it at Target these days) they have some truly unique items. For example, I walked out with a set of rubber coasters that look like little LPs. Will make a great gift for my radio friend! They also had a wide range of really hip sunglasses for $15. The merchandising is so thoughtful and if you're the hipster 20s type (or maybe even not a hipster, just one of those creative Austinites) you must check out this place for accessories, home goods and gifts. I really couldn't believe how much I walked out with considering how little I spent, and all of it locally produced and totally fabulous. I really love this store...they have awesome gifts, cute clothes, and I pretty much want everything! I detracted stars and am actually writing this review because of the customer service I received the three times I went in. Each time I felt ignored and when talking to a store associate it seemed like I was bothering them. One time I went in and wanted what I was buying gift wrapped...it wasn't offered to me when checking out (though it was offered to the lady in front of me) and when I asked for my item to be wrapped, the check out person looked annoyed, didn't acknowledge me and just start wrapping my items quickly with random colored tissue paper. There weren't many people in the store so it wasn't because they were busy. I guess a verbal response was too much to ask for... My last visit, will probably be my last time in - I came in close to closing time but knew what I wanted so I was super quick and in line with minutes to spare. I guess it sucks when customers come in late but the attitude I received from the employees was awful and very unwelcoming. And again, I wasn't offered gift wrapping and there was no way I was asking for it this time. So...great store but I wish the employees were a more personable because they've left me with no desire to come back. read more

Hooray! I've been wanting a sweet boutique on this part of Burnett and A-Town fits the bill. They are quite new at this writing, but already show tons of promise with the great jewelry selection (many local artists), funky clothes, baby gifts, decor, candles, lotions, knick-knacky gifty things and blah blah blah ... This is my new favorite place to get gifts! Anything from iconic Austin scenes on cutting boards and coffee mugs to gorgeous Texas shaped gold necklaces, they have it all! Not to mention free gift wrapping, this place has eclectic jewelry, funny bar gifts, handmade art, and beautiful candles. A-Town is an excellent little gift shop (or "Austin Lifestyle Store" in their words), with a fair amount of local goods (though not as much is local as I thought). This has become my go-to shop for cute Austin gifts without "We Don't Dial 911" and a big gun on them- the quality and uniqueness here definitely reflects well on our city. As an example, on my latest stop in, I got a great little organic cotton onesie for a new baby back home, made by local moms, with the Texas map in felt overlaid with a felt guitar and a star for Austin... not cheap, but it also doesn't look like it. I also like the selection of clever, non-Hallmark cards (I can't bear to send another sympathy card with Snoopy on the front). There's a little something for everybody here: makeup, jewelry, art, apparel, kids' stuff, cards. As for the service, it was fine. Nobody has pestered me, and they've been there when I was ready to ring out (and even did nice, free giftwrapping). read more

Atown carries a wide-ranging selection of cute clothes, jewelry, accessories, home decor and gift items - all funky and fashionable. It is clear they spend a lot of time carefully selecting what they sell. It's a welcome addition to Allandale, where fun shops like this are few and far between. Come to browse, find a perfect birthday gift, or pick up something when you are looking to treat yourself. The staff is super-friendly, and the store is huge - make sure to visit all the rooms! The only reason why I'm not giving Atown 5 stars is that a lot of the space is devoted to lotions, creams, bath salts, and that kind of thing. I never use that stuff, so all that is lost on me. But if you like that kind of thing, this is a 6-star place for you. read more

I would typically have great things to say about this store! I've been many times and usually have a great experience. During my most recent visit I purchased an art print that was either rang up incorrectly OR incorrectly marked on the floor. When I told the cashier that it rang up incorrectly she just said it was the correct price, rather than offering to go and look at their display she said she would take a look after I left and charged me the original price. No big deal, it was only a couple of dollars but still customer service was lacking. They used to offer to gift wrap your items as well, not sure if they stopped doing that or if it just wasn't offered on this visit. (I also didn't bother to ask because the tone of the transaction) Honestly, both minor issues but I guess I was just expecting the same level of service I had experienced previously. read more

I was so excited to get my years Christmas socks for the family here. I always love the atmosphere and the employees are usually so helpful. Brenda on the other hand was not. She profiled my friend and I and followed us around the store. Asking us if we needed help 5 times. We were in the store for maybe 45 minutes while she followed us around the store making us feel extremely uncomfortable and unwanted there. I will not be going back to this store. Don't waste your time on overpriced items you can find online or elsewhere. read more

Atown rules. I tell my friends about this place every chance I get. The sale section is incredible, I have found many inexpensive hidden treasures to add to my wardrobe. The selection of candles and housewares? Amazing. There are so many Austin inspired knick knacks here. The jewelry section? Unique and affordable, I constantly get compliments when I wear the pieces I buy from here. If you need a Texas inspired t-shirt, come here. If you need a dress for an event, come here. If you need an outfit for a night out, come here. I seriously could spend my whole entire paycheck here and I probably have come close at some point. The staff is awesome and very helpful. Every time I walk in I am greeted and thanked for dropping by. I stopped here randomly because I was on my way to SXSW, spilt coffee all over my outfit and needed a quick replacement. I've driven by Atown countless times and, sadly, thought it was some weird, hybrid smoke shop/t-shirt purveyor. Do not let the loud sign fool you: It is a lovely gift shop with all sorts of goods from local Austin artisans as well as well-selected national brands. There is merchandise at all price points and the selection is HUGE. The space is deceptive - it looks small when you initially walk in, but it's cavernous with a large second room and a giant back room. While it appeared lightly staffed, that didn't bug me one bit because I prefer to shop on my own and seek out salespeople when I need them. This is now my go-to spot for picking up a hostess or birthday gift. read more

Don't let the cheesy name deter you from checking this place out. It's actually a pretty large store with tons of interesting stuff. It's sort of become my go-to place for gift purchases. They have a lot of locally made clothes, jewelry, cards, and art, all relatively unique and reasonably priced. I do feel like the style is geared towards a younger age... I can find things here for my 20-something friends, but I usually head somewhere else the older ones. I also love a store with complimentary fresh baked cookies and mimosas. :) read more

I agree with all the positive reviews of this local store. I have dropped a mighty amount of cash at this place as it is my go to for gifts for everyone on my list. We frequent this place monthly. All great until today. I have bought my husband at least 12 of the artsy t-shirts they sell. One of those shirts that I bought him for Christmas ended up being defective with the label bleeding through the shirt out the back. He wore it once and put it in the wash. Folding it made us discover the defect. Finally made it to the store without forgetting the tshirt today. The manager says they cannot help us since it is worn and they no longer carry shirts from that artist anymore. She actually said that since it doesn't have a tag, they cannot be sure we bought it from there...that these shirts are sold everywhere. Understandable. But infuriating when you did buy it from there and someone thinks you are suspicious. I don't know if I will ever return. I have NEVER made a return to them. Being local I thought they would be more about customer service and helping out their loyals. I like to know that the place where I drop a lot of our hard earned money will back us up if something we buy is defective and not at all our fault. It looks like bad customer service is apparently a theme with them right now. Per our credit card statement (which we offered to show her but she didn't want to see) I have shopped there five times since December. If you shop here, just know that they are not very flexible, supportive, or empathetic. If anyone knows who else sells these shirts can you please let me know where? I had been planning to visit this business when I saw a deal on Groupon, which sealed the deal. This is a great boutique with a huge selection - definitely make sure you have plenty of time when you shop here. I'll start with the only negative to get it out of the way: when I first got there, there were only two associates on the floor and both were behind the registers, so if I had needed any help, there wouldn't have been any. However, towards the end of my experience the store had slowed down and there were four associates, all of whom were very helpful. The jewelry is fairly priced and all seems to be local. The clothes as well all seemed to be locally made, which is awesome. I ended up buying a LOT of cool jewelry there, including an amazing necklace of the Austin skyline. I have frequented this store many times and always love getting my holiday gifts here but had an experience yesterday that will stop me from returning. I asked about a bag I saw they had previously and a woman behind the counter told me there was one more but she was buying it. It was clear that she hadn't bought it yet and had just removed it from the counter but the interaction was very uncomfortable and unprofessional. I don't understand how she thought it was a good idea to tell a paying customer that they cannot have an item because she intends to buy it in the future. There was another woman who checked me out and she was clearly embarrassed by her coworker. She told me to go to their sister store that might carry it and was very kind. She is the reason I still bought items from that store yesterday and didn't give my experience a one star. read more

Don't let the storefront fool you, once inside Atown is HUGE. The front entry room has full priced clothing, nail polishes, local jewelry, and some other knick knacks. The next room over has kids items with some really unique gift options. Local onesies, baby gear, and then some off humor stuff. Behind that are some stairs and then there is a huge warehouse type space with tons of great t-shirts, purses, home décor, and more jewelry. The last room behind that has all of the sale clothing and don't miss this space! I found a bunch of cute dresses all less than $40, and the quality is really nice. The sale items are final sale, so make sure you have time to try stuff on. For a tourist or local Atown makes for some fun retail therapy. read more

Came here late around 6pm! Only store that was open left late, bought a tank that said wander on it for $28 a little pricey but I'm in a middle of a collection from various cities so I didn't mind. Think of this place as an Etsy brick-and-mortar store. There are lots of different styles and handmade things here. They have soy candles, succulents, jewelry, funny socks, magnets, coasters, clothing, and a little bit more. It's easy to spend an hour in here and the pricing seems reasonable. I love this place. Its like the TARDIS. ...bigger on the inside. But seriously, its way bigger on the inside. There's the amazing clothing, beautifully scented candles, local jewelry and art and cosmetics up front. Awesome local and organic baby items centered in the shop before opening up to the biggest and best part of the store: their sale and clearance section. Its half the reason why I come here. Its just so much fun, very hip, and so true to Austin. I do have to do a little driving around because I have gotten too many close calls in their parking spaces up front. But I don't hold that against Atown because I've had close calls in my own driveway. I spent an obnoxious amount on soaps and candles and other gifties for Christmas, and I don't regret it. This place is great! I came here last night for a fundraiser and had a couple of hours to browse the shop. They carried anything and everything you can think of. Clothes, candles, magnets, books, jewelry, novelty shower curtians - I mean EVERYTHING. The shop carries a bunch of cute items in the Anne Taintor vein, so if you're into that, you'll love this shop. Looking around all I could think of is how I could find something for every girlfriend I have. Seriously- Cards and gifts- It's your one stop shop for birthdays. I also kept reminding myself how I could easily spend an entire paycheck here. All the cute knickknacks are affordable enough, but my 20-something budget definitely does not allow for $80 blouses. Maybe they'll have some awesome sales one day??? A girl can hope. Overall, the space is very nice, lots of room to shop and there are soooo many cute things! You will not be disappointed! read more

I've been shopping here for years and always try to stop in when I'm in the area. Unfortunately the store seems to have morphed in to a souvenir shop. Their selection of clothing and local jewelry has dwindled down quite a bit. They still have some cool items and great gifts for friends visiting. I just wish they would go back to to selling the cute eclectic clothing and accessories that they used to. I understand the store is "A"town so the focus is all things Austin. I'd give this a four star if it wasn't for the young, blonde 'lady' cashier that was ungrateful. A 'Thank You' after the sale would have been nice. She wasn't friendly either. I would normally give Five Stars because this is always my go-to store for birthdays, moving aways, happy holidays, and something for myself days. I have always had good experiences, until today. Sunday, I went in looking for candles and ended up buying a cute kimono, one of those last second spontaneous buys. It was on sale, even better! When checking out the girl circled the return info on the bottom and said I have 14 days to return, good deal. I get home and realize the color looks different and not so good, so I decide I am going to return the item, and went in today. No big deal, I am within the 14 days. Turns out, it was a final sale, because it was on sale. I mentioned it was not communicated to me upon purchase, or I would not have bought it. But there was no giving in because it's their policy. I don't like to complain so I thought I'll go home and call back and talk with the manager. I was really hoping they could wave the policy just this once, but not so. The manager informed me even though it was not communicated, it is listed in the return policy that was circled at the bottom. I said, who reads that? It's like a five font. I was so disappointed, and a little bit mad. My intent today was to return the kimono and get a knit crochet vest I've been eyeing, instead I am left with a new outlook on how things really work at the store I once so loved. It's about the money, not making long-lasting relationships with good customers and new ones. They don't care. I have been sending people to this store for a long time, not any more. Next time I want to shop there, I will think twice and I'll be sure to tell the people I know about my expericnce today. I have never written a bad review, but this is something people need to know about before buying anything in that store. This store is fine, a bit on the small side. I didn't see any keep Austin weird t shirts. Was part of a visit to Austin pets alive animal shelter thrift down the street. Finally broke down and went to Atown. Was looking forward to some unique things. Yes: there are some unique/clever items. BUT I was looking for some fun socks for my son's 21st birthday. Why are a large # of the socks so crude? I guess they sell alot of socks with "f***" and "sh**" but that totally soured me on being a returning customer. No one I employ could wear those to work. May give wine away but not enough for me to return with many options in area. Bummer. read more
