I like to study here and drink some nicely crafted coffee and tea, but this recent time I came, the WiFi was awful. I had to use my own personal hotspot because I couldn't connect at all. My friends and I complained, since we came to the cafe to study. Other than that, we noticed that their latte art was not consistent. I still enjoy Atomic's space, especially the outdoor seating, but they must take a look at their WiFi since it is the reason why everyone goes to this cafe. I enjoyed my experience at the new Atomic Coffee in downtown Royal Oak. You can't miss this place at the corner of 4th and Main with the gigantic coffee cup atop the entrance. Walking in the space is large and sleek with modern devote and a small outside seating area. There's a variety of seating options from couches to small and large tables, and plenty of outlets for laptops. Having never been here before I asked for a recommendation and the young man behind the counter suggested their nitro cold brew. I opted for that with some of their house made honey vanilla syrup. I thought the drink was tasty, slightly biter but a little cream helped balance that. My only complaint is that it was lacking ice and was more room temperature than cold. I'd order it again and ask for extra ice next time. While doing some work an employee stopped by to say hello and ask how I was. I appreciated that, God customer service goes a long way. All the employees seemed very friendly. The seating by area was perfect for getting some work done and some always fun people watching. read more

First, let me say that I don't expect most places to take negative reviews seriously. (I've actually been waiting for the time limit before you can update a Yelp review.) So I am BEYOND impressed that 30 minutes after my negative review for Atomic was posted, the store manager Jordan was at my table introducing himself to me. Not only was he extremely personable and polite (like all the staff), he was apologetic for my bad experience. That was impressive! It takes guts to go find a negative reviewer and approach them. I've worked in the service industry long enough to know that usually those people are the most painful to talk to because they're needlessly cruel and nothing will make their experience better. The store manager was more brave than I! Although I never expect to receive something to compensate for a bad experience, he gave me a gift card to return with and explained his appreciation of the feedback. Atomic is planning on fixing the things I noted and staff were quick to clean up the problem areas once they were made aware. They were attentive about our glasses and mugs as well. Again, the staff were amazing. My friends and I hoped no one got in trouble for my review. Like I mentioned before, we had no problems with the staff or the quality of the drinks. And with clean tables and seats, the area we were sitting in was vastly improved. And problems that aren't quick fixes are on the docket to be handled. That promise is reassuring! It's also heartening to see the additional direct response from Jordan here on Yelp as a follow up. I appreciate the attention to detail and interest in creating a better experience not just for me, but for all Atomic customers. I'll be honest; after my initial review, I was pretty sure that I would never come back to Atomic. The gift card was an unexpected surprise that I truly appreciated. However, even without it, the quick response from the store manager and absolute professionalism was what really sold me. I have never been so impressed with a manager in my life. It showed me that he truly cared for his establishment and wasn't dismissive of negative feedback. To me, that's worth a second chance. read more

I met up with an old sorority sister here on Sunday and ordered the honey vanilla latte and avocado egg. It came to a little over $10 and after paying they give you a table number to go sit down with. What confused me was that I didn't realize I had to pick my coffee up and the table number was just for food! No biggie but I did let my coffee sit at the counter for a little while getting cold because I didn't realize this! The coffee was good and I'm not usually a hot coffee kinda girl. The avocado egg sandwich was amazing and I only ate half and had to save the other for a different day. Big portion and filling! The ambience is cozy and staff is fast and nice. The store actually experienced a power outage while I was there so they were only accepting cash at the time and the wifi was down. They were still busy despite the setbacks! read more

The flavored Lattes & the ultra-modern interior make this coffeeshop stand out from the rest in Royal Oak & neighboring areas. Cardamom Rose Latte, Lavender Latte, London Fog - you're going to want to have them all, in fact, you need to. Then there's the Affogato that I just can't get enough of. Ice cream & espresso is a match made in heaven, and thankfully Atomic Coffee offers Affogatos on their menu consistently. (Unlike some other local coffeeshops. Ahem!) There's a sandwich menu & a small pastry case, mostly croissants. Yes, Atomic Coffee is more upscale than most coffeeshops in the area. But the patrons bring it back to a reasonable level of casual. I mean, we're talking 40+ people slouching in their seats with headphones on, working hard on their laptops for a solid 5 hours or more. If you want a seat, you'd better come early in the day, or in the afternoon when the crowd has thinned out a bit. And good luck finding a spot near a power outlet - those will likely be taken. There are four distinct seating areas. A brightly lit seating area in the front with 2-tops and a gorgeous uninterrupted view of Main & 4th street, a sunken area with cute upholstered seat-backs but still a decent view of Main street, and a dark cave-like back area where the long-term campers are encouraged to sit. That, and a small seasonal outdoor patio. I believe the patio is open from April to October. Though the fancy looks will fool you at first, you quickly realize this is isn't so much a place to be seen. It's a place to work, meet, write, or simply sip coffee while your neighbor does one of the above. read more

You could say that I am borderline obsessed with Atomic Coffee and I'm kind of thankful that I live 20+ minutes away (and also thankful that they open after I am already at work) because I would go ALL THE TIME. Their seasonal pumpkin pie latte is amazing (highly recommend with oat milk), and when that's not on the menu, I highly recommend the cardamom rose latte with oat milk. The Mexican mocha is also delicious. Ok, all of the lattes are delicious. The baristas are very nice and are always willing to answer questions and give advice (for example, when I ask which milk alternative to pair with which latte) and I love the unique menu options. Love coming here for the fresh coffee and atmosphere. They also have really good croissant sandwiches. It's nice they have an outside patio seating. However, this location is very busy in the early morning and afternoon. Plan accordingly if you need a seat for more than 2 people. Parking is nearby by the Salvation Army. They also have a lavender latte that is wonderful, I'm pretty sure they make their pastries and baked goods, because they always taste fresh. Really great menu, variety of items, and hours! Always croissants and a variety of filled ones until they sell out, sandwiches and such until 3. Smoothies, even raw juices, and a bomb nitro cold brew that can be used as a smoothie base. Food is great! I think I messed up because I asked for avocado and egg on croissant, and it came with a bunch of other stuff and a mayo-like sauce. I HATE hate hate mayo so I can't judge from that experience, but thank you chef for all the extras. I was thinking maybe it's a sandwich they usually make and I just didn't know. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because of staff, and this used to be a Caribou Coffee and it was super cozy. I wish there were more cozy chairs, they do have a few but they are usually taken. This is the perrrrrfect place to study, work, chill, people watch. Got the nitro coffee, which I hear is supposed to be thicker than water. This wasn't the case for this one, but the coffee was pretty strong. It was more like an iced coffee. That's cool I guess, but not a $5 iced coffee. I'd now like to go back and try their iced coffee instead. That's probably more worth it. There is a ton of indoor and outdoor space. This place also has food - sandwiches/breakfast sandwiches, pastries, etc. Would definitely recommend on a Sunday when you don't have to pay for parking. Or a quick stop by when you do. The tea options needs some work, coffees are decent. Dessert options are okay, but tastes blah. I finally tried this coffee shop, had some tea, my friend had a cappuccino, we split some desserts, but they were dry and lacked any flavor. This place was chock full of people, so it looks popular, but the tea and desserts were nothing special. Sunday morning coffee and half croissant sandwiches are a yummy perfect start to a Sunday. I had my deliciously refreshing fresh squeezed OJ, my hubby had his Mexican mocha and we both had the veggie croissant with eggs, portabella mushroom, Gouda and lettuce with a half banana. We were going to split the sandwich but it was too good to just eat a half of it, so the second was ordered. I am not cool with Atomic cafe allowing dogs "inside" their coffee shop and even asked the employee. He confirmed they allow dogs inside as I watched this dog shaking his entire body a couple of times and slowly watching all of the dog hair flying around it as it shook. Dogs are generally fine in wide open patios but I find it a very significant health violation to allow a non-service dog inside a eating facility which clearly serves food and I had ordered a sandwich and my husband an omelet and as such wanted it packed up to go so it wouldn't possibly get any dog hair on it since the air was kicking and blowing dust and whatever around. I am not a fan of dog hair or any hair in my food at all. I realize dog lovers and dog owners tend to not mind some dog hair in their food but I am not either of those people. Call me particular but dog hair and food don't go hand-in-hand for me, ever. The veggie omelet needs a little work. My hubby thought how low grade an omelet it was, liked the egg whites but it surrounded what looked like a full morning star veggie patty and had an old dollop of guac. The hash browns were greasy and not crispy at all. In the future I would like to see a change in Atomic's policy to not allow dogs inside any facility that serves food. Most food serving restaurants don't allow dogs inside, but on their patio. Pain au chocolat here is just okay, better at bread by Crispelli. read more

I like Atomic. We make the drive from Dearborn a couple times a month just to visit this spot. Fair prices. Lots of seating. Cool staff. Unlike other coffee shops, Atomic isn't littered with students and laptops. I've never had an issue finding a seat to enjoy a cup of coffee. I'm a big fan of the "Mexican Mocha". Our last few visits we've noticed the shop needs a bit of a clean up. The couches and chair appear old and worn down. The place feels a bit dusty. Lights falling apart in the corner. Spider webs etc. Specifically the seating area in the corner with the orange couch. Other than that, we always come back. Great service. Great location. Bring quarters for paid parking behind the building. read more

As far as coffee shops go, this is one of my favorites. I know they don't roast their own beans yet, but wherever it is they get them from, it makes a fantastic coffee. Great flavor. I don't really care about cold press, or lattes or anything else all that out of the creation of just normal everyday coffee, but what I do know is good coffee tastes and theirs is fantastic. If I do have a complaint it is the lack of effort they put into the design and look of this store. It is very dumpy and unattractive. They overcharge enough to probably do something to make this all more appealing, but who knows, rent might be crazy high in Royal Oak. I think this is the type of place you grab and go, I wouldn't spend much time in the store itself. read more

First off, the place did a great of stepping past the pseudo false hipness of a guy wearing a winter scarf on a hot summer day that Trader Joe's provides us. The clean white room gives you a feel you are about to get something special and we did. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Although, I do like Starbucks, I think this is a bit of a step beyond for the same price. We inquired about the Nitro Cold Press and after a great story about how long it takes to make, no heat, and the Guinness like nitrogen, I didn't care how much. I simply had to have it. We asked what we should put in it and the barista said "just try it as it is. It smooth and creamy and maybe you will just enjoy as it was mean to be"....Is she Gandhi in disguise? Well, maybe not but she is dead on the money, what a great coffee. I could almost pretend I was getting drunk of a coffee that had the qualities of one of my favorite beers sans alcohol. The place has an interesting vibe - part hipster watering hole, part friendly neighborhood cafe. The decor is also mixed, with elements equal parts IKEA and Pottery Barn. The music is quiet enough to permit conversation, and the various seating arrangements effectively keep foot traffic from disturbing long term guests. The outdoor seating is another draw - if you enjoy having your brew and people watching, this is a fantastic place to be. I came in during a rush, but the staff was efficient in managing traffic without sacrificing quality. But forget about the ambience, which is enjoyable and intimate, we're here for coffee. If the smell doesn't tell you you're dealing with good stuff, then order a cup. A straight shot of espresso can tell you a lot about the beans a place is using, and whether they're masking something with too much sugar in their lattes...but no - a perfect roast, a perfect pull. Go here. You won't regret it. I have to admit I've been pretty disappointed with the local coffee scene after a moving to MI. I was a barista for about 10 years, so I'm fairly (ok...very) picky about coffee. The day I discovered Atomic Coffee put a pep in my step. I FINALLY found good coffee. No, it is great coffee. I love the atmosphere. Their food is really good. Beverages delicious. They do have longer lines sometime, but in my experience (which is 2-4 times a week), they move quickly. However the drip coffee was barely ok. And I was disappointed when I asked for a V60 and the cashier looked at me confused and said we don't have that.
