After many years of discussion, my mom finally agreed to live with us! The best solution was to build an ADU so she could have a space she felt comfortable in and could call home. It was quite a big change for her after living independently, so we took our time researching options and companies. My mom wanted a design-build company that would take care of the entire project from start to finish. We met with three other design-build companies and felt most comfortable with Atlas. Their estimate was also fair and reasonable. Josh, our project coordinator, was down to earth, patient, a good listener, and easy to work with. He made my mom feel at ease and clearly cared about what was important to her. Josh was a constant presence from the beginning and throughout the design phase. We met with Jeremy and Josh weekly to design the layout and specifications of the ADU. We had difficulty making some decisions and changed our minds on a few things. They were incredibly patient and kind toward us, doing their best to accommodate exactly what my mom wanted. We continued meeting weekly with them until we were completely happy with the design plans. After that, they took care of submitting the plans for permitting. Once permitting was approved--less than a year later--we met at our home with Josh, Bruce (the owner), and Shay and Saul. Bruce came to meet us personally to share the company's heart, commitment, and dedication to its customers. Shay was our project manager, and we worked with her for the entire duration of the build. Shay was extremely responsive, patient, accommodating, and always available. We can be very detail-oriented and nit-picky, but she took it all in stride. She truly went above and beyond every step of the way to make sure we were happy with everything and completely satisfied with the end product. Even when unexpected things came up or things didn't go exactly as planned, Shay always made it right. The build took about nine months, which was quicker than the permitting. All the workers and subcontractors were great to work with. They were respectful, on time, and hardworking. Unfortunately, I can't remember everyone's names, but I specifically want to give a shout-out to Gabe, Randy, Shane, and Aaron; and to the subcontractors, Joel (electrician) and Marlon (AC). Bethany, our selections coordinator, was also wonderful--knowledgeable, helpful, and willing to meet with us multiple times. She even came with us to different vendors to help us select every single item in the ADU. Her eye for design was extremely helpful. She also put together a packet of all the products we selected with their warranties and rebates! We can't thank Atlas enough for their professionalism and trustworthiness. Every member of the team worked with the same ethic and care. My mom is extremely happy and settled in her new home. It has everything she asked for, with quality materials and craftsmanship. Atlas was amazingly able to design an ADU with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a laundry room, living room, and kitchen--all within 800 square feet! Even after our project was done, we have contacted Shay a few times, and she is still incredibly helpful and responsive. We are truly grateful for Josh, Shay, and the entire Atlas 'Ohana and team who made us feel more like family than customers. We would not hesitate to recommend Atlas for your next construction project. Shay's care, efforts and expertise was outstanding as the project manager in the construction of our house. She was by far the most valuable person in the success of putting us in the house we want. (And most comfortable and connected to work with!) More important than her impressive management of the build from material to scheduling and sequencing of her crews, subcontractors and inspectors was her ability to work with us. We felt comfortable and confident that whenever we communicated she had our interest in mind and would take care of us. That relationship, to us was most important. Without hesitation, she provided guidance and assistance on aspects of the build we took on ourselves as well as providing recommendations on subcontractors not part of our contract. In construction, they say "the money is in the details," and Shay is money! She has a keen eye for details and high standard for workmanship. Atlas takes advantage of homeowners by giving them a hard time when they make errors by blaming the inexperienced homeowner in order to be profitable. I'm not going to state facts bc it will reveal the ongoing project. Just know they aren't Pono when it comes to making their error right. And we absolutely tried to work with manager to remedy but he kept refusing saying it's our costs. Sad. read more

It's been a two year journey to complete our driveway and outside stair repair project with Atlas Construction. We live on a steep hillside and needed to repair our driveway and replace a very long wooden set of stairs that had rotted over the years. The project hung over us for years, we knew we had to do it but it seemed like such a big project. It took a long time to review, research, get estimates, In the end, even though they were not the cheapest, we went with Atlas. One of the reasons was that the owner, Bruce, came out and looked at our project early on and I liked their reputation. It took almost a year of meetings and different plans. At first we met on a regular basis with Rodney and Jeremy for months to talk over what we wanted and compare our options. Only when we got into it, did we find out all that the project would entail, building codes, etc. The sticker shock at what it was going to cost made us rethink our plans and options many times. Finally we all came up with a plan and a price that we could live with. Once we signed off, they handed over the construction to Saul, our project manager, and Clayton, our project foreman. Both of them did exceptional jobs. We cannot say enough about the skills, expert craftsmanship, and work ethic of Clayton. He was here every day before 7, sometimes working with a small crew, often alone. He made so many excellent suggestions and never cut corners. All of our neighbors agreed on the great work he did. It became a regular stop for neighbors to look at what was going on and watch the work in progress. We made some additions and changes to the plans so in the end, of course, it cost more than we planned. But we are extremely satisfied - it is the biggest project we have ever done on our house (and will ever do.) We are just waiting for one final detail that Saul was going to have installed under the driveway to address water that drips through but I wanted to get this post up as 2022 comes to a close and say thank you to Atlas for a job well done. read more

Atlas did an amazing job with our house! The pre-construction/drafting was a little rough, but everything after was great. Our project manager (Shay) and selections officer (Mika) were amazing! Shay was very approachable and easy to get in contact with; there was a very open line of communication. She is a perfectionist, noticing even minor flaws and addressing them quickly. Shay explained everything we needed to know and answered all our questions in lay terms so we could easily understand. She assisted us even after the build was completed. We could not have asked for a better project manager than Shay. Mika was incredible to work with. She has a great eye for finding things (e.g. fixtures, countertops, tile, etc.) that match our style and price range. She recognized flaws in the earlier plans and addressed it so the transition was seamless. It was so so so easy to work with her! She made the process exciting. Overall, great experience! "What can be done without a building permit? We want this, this, and this. And that, that, and that." We decided to go with Atlas Construction because Jeremy and Joshua, after several meetings, translated our wants and needs to words and later to computer graphics. Every Atlas staff we met treated us with courtesy, respect and professionalism. And, the work crews were happy when they showed up to work--at 7:00AM! Unanticipated discoveries of old rotten pipes, sunken floors, collapsing rock walls, much of which were built before current building codes, were met with immediate solutions of how to repair the damage or bring the house up to code so we could get back on track with minimal delays. The construction crews were skilled, and worked well together. I remember watching them pour my cement walkway--it was like watching 6 bodies connected to the same brain. Each team understood the importance of the job they had to do. The gutter guys soldiered on during the rain to install the gutters because they knew that the cement guys were scheduled to pour the driveway cement the next day and gutters were needed to keep the rain off the newly poured cement. My project manager, Saul, was instrumental in keeping all of us on track, from making sure supplies were delivered on time, to sending the right staff on a particular day to do a specific task. He either visited the site or texted/called to make sure all was going well. Saul was pro active in making sure my family was getting what we wanted, and even sent the painters to repaint some columns and pillars that were not originally painted the color we wanted. Near the conclusion of our project, Atlas presented me with a "Care, Maintenance & Warranty Packet" containing each item that was selected during the build, including cabinet care and cleaning, plumbing fixtures & lighting, doors and hardware for doors, and Trex decking for our external stairs to we can care and maintain the items Atlas installed in our home. We started out with changing out termite eaten beams in our carport and ended up with a fully refreshed 70+ year old home. Atlas Construction delivered satisfaction on all levels. read more

I needed to add covered lanai and remodel downstairs area. Got a hold of the guy and let him know what I was looking to do and he was quite enthusiastic and said he'll call me right back. He did not. Got a hold of him again a few days later and same thing, he assured me he'll call back but never did. It's okay to say No upfront if the project is too small for you. We hired Atlas, through the referral from a friend, to design and build an addition to our existing home. We had a truly great experience with Atlas from start to finish. A major home renovation is never an easy or stress-free endeavor, but working with Atlas made the process as smooth and straightforward as possible. We were so lucky to have Shay as our project manager, she was the absolute best! Shay went above and beyond for us throughout the entire process. Atlas Construction completed a full demolition and rebuild for us. They incorporated all our wishes into the planning phase. The building teams were very efficient; it took 8 months . . . far less than the 11 months we waited for the permit!! Shay Torres did an excellent job as project manager. This is a long overdue of Atlas Construction. They helped us design and build an ADU, starting back in 2018! They helped us create a unique L-shaped design so that we could maximize the space on our lot and the views from the rooms. They also took care of all the permitting and helped us through the process so that we only had to make a few decisions at a time. We liked many of the fixtures and other options that were within the pricing structure and it was easy to work with their partner vendors for things like designing the cabinets and picking out countertops and tiles. It was also very clear if we wanted options that would cost extra, so there were no surprises. I'm writing now because we've had a couple of wear and tear items come up and even though they were out of warranty, Atlas has still been super helpful reconnecting us with the vendors and getting things fixed right away. With the heavy rains back in January this year (2025), we noticed a leak in the roof. When we contacted Atlas, they made sure to send the roofer right away, since we were forecast to get more rain soon. He was able to fix everything quickly and we stayed dry in the storm and haven't had any problems since. We had a great experience working with Atlas, they helped make what was a daunting and overwhelming process relatively straightforward and fun. Plus, we love the house that was the result! read more

Nathan the project coordinator, was extremely helpful to our building project. He came out quickly to the site and penciled us in quickly for the follow up. Our simple rebuild turned complicated quickly. He offered many alternatives and ideas. He even contacted a realtor friend to find out important details and followed up with me. Ultimately, his info, knowledge and willingness to assist us was so appreciated. We had Nathan and we experienced very excellent service! Called to confirm our at-home appointment prior to our meeting. Few minutes late but was warned in advance - I understand...Hawaii has choke traffic. Very professional - came in a mask and gloves! Gave us some great financial advice about how to finance our dream project and a realistic viewpoints on our options. We were a little lost on how to approach certain areas of home improvement on our home but he gave great insight as to how to upkeep our home in the meanwhile until we're able to obtain our total dream (vs remodeling in piecemeal increments only to to a double job in the end). (Also gave some handy tips about moving our washer/dryer so our dog has room to roam lol) Overall, super friendly people and they definitely have our business moving forward in the future with our home. read more

I don't leave reviews unless I have something nice to say but when you spend a significant amount of money on a substantial purchase such as a home build or remodel and the owner has the nerve to yell at the customer and basically throw a tantrum then I think people need to know. I work in customer service myself so I strongly feel that the customer is not always right, however I have never yelled or belittled or threw a tantrum at a customer simply because they were asking questions regarding the workmanship or services offered. Something has to be fishy when an owner cannot calmly and rationally converse with the customer. Just admit that you cut corners and made mistakes then move forward and just find a way to make things right. read more

Atlas Construction took care of us through every step of the process. Josh helped us with the initial phase, and was a great collaborator as well as Jeremy, our planner. They were very knowledgable, met with us weekly listening to our ideas, all while keeping it within our budget. Our selections designer Bethany was also amazing and brought my dream kitchen and bathroom to life and was a joy to work with! Our project manager Shay was nothing short of exceptional. She addressed our concerns day and night, resolved issues in a timely manner, and was in constant communication with us. I would like to update on the comment from the president of atlas construction I understand that all construction jobs and their employees have to wait to start building due to the permits and the backlog from the DPP. But my concern on this whole matter is keeping us in touch on the status on the project. Sure the contractors was at Honolulu hale fighting to get the issuing of the permits faster to all the contractors and about the so call law that you guys are fighting for. Its besides the point but it was I the one who had to call DPP every month and asking them what's the status. I think it shouldn't have been me it should have been the contractor whether the project coordinator or any body in the office should have check it out. To sum up this post after when we called the office back April of this year and ask to scrap the project on our hse Nathan mentioned to my husband that the company would have started the project in June So does that mean you guys got the building permit? Well all in all I would like to thank Bruce Kim for hes reply to me. But I feel with this said from Bruce it seems like it's my husband to call back Atlas and make the decision on what to do. Atlas Construction remodeled our house and the entire first floor was gutted and reconfigured. The house was originally single-wall construction and in the process, we converted to double-wall. Additionally, the electrical and plumbing was completely redone. After completion, Atlas does a one-year walk around in order to identify and address any problems that may have cropped up. They fixed every little thing that popped up but the major problem was some swelling around the master shower which indicated a leak. Our shower is tile walled with a bench/dog washing station and river rock flooring. Shay, the project manager, meticulously analyzed all possibilities on where the leak could be coming from. She was determined to solve the problem and decided to remove the tile and flooring from the bottom quarter of the shower. Bruce Kim, the owner, gave the green light to do what it takes to rectify the problem. Aaron did the work on the shower and he is the best finisher we've ever seen. He surgically removed tiles from the walls, the bench/dog station, the river rock flooring and the front step-in area. They made sure everything was totally waterproof and then some. Then they reconstructed everything and rehung the shower door (heavy glass). Throughout the entire procedure Aaron had the bathroom sealed up and went the extra distance to minimize any dust getting into the master bedroom. Shay kept in touch and oversaw everything as if it were her own bathroom and Aaron's work was immaculate. The leak is now gone and one wouldn't even be able to tell that the shower was gutted and reconstructed. We have been extremely pleased with the quality of work by Atlas. We were totally impressed with the professionalism and constant cheerful demeanor of both Shay and Aaron! It's very apparent that they sincerely care about their customers! Interesting the owner, Bruce, would reply since I never met him or had any communication with him. Understandably, he would get the facts wrong or spin it to paint a different picture. First, I never asked for phasing. Project specs and pre-con discussions noted that since we occupy the home and all bath facilities are affected, one shower and one toilet needs to be usable at all times. The sequence of work was entirely at the contractor's discretion. Secondly regarding COVID, the contract was signed 11/22/2019, with work starting 12/10/2019, but they delayed the start date to 1/27/2020 due to scheduling issues. Hawaii's COVID shutdown started on 3/22/2020, and Atlas did not work 2 weeks from 3/17/2020 to 3/30/2020, when construction was declared an essential service. So for the first 2 months of a projected 3-4 month construction, COVID was a non-factor. However, it took another 8 months before bathrooms were fully functional and another 3 months before all remaining work was fully complete on 2/12/2021 - a total duration of 15 months for a 230 SF renovation! It begs credibility that delays were mainly attributable to COVID alone, and is delay mitigation evident? I only noted two of the more prominent order errors. During the proposal stage, I asked for clarification about four not-in-contract (NIC) items, including the glass shower partition (not a shower door as Bruce states). They replied "Yes, for the NIC items, we will work do the work or work with you..." I also asked for clarifications on 1/24/2020, 2/7/2020, and 2/21/2021 when material should've been on its way. On 2/21/2020, the project manager said the Bathroom Store was providing the partition. Still no concise response or clarity about who orders or pays for these items, and I kept the question open until 7/3/2020, after which I assumed it was Atlas's responsibility. As a matter of fact, the shower partition was not 3" short as Bruce states. The design dimension was 6" too long. The project manager and I confirmed the shower opening size prior to his ordering it. Measure twice, cut once. Thirdly, regarding the countertops, I made the color selection with Kimberly, Atlas project designer/selections officer, who never mentioned any non-prefab slab issue. The first top installed was neither the correct manufacturer or color, nothing to do with it being non-prefab. In any case, I was charged $500 extra for two tops, presumably since it's non-prefab. As for the bullnose, the second top had a sharp transition from the top to the curved edge. (The first "wrong" top did not have this problem.) That was not the end of it. During installation, it was too long and required re-fabrication again. Who is doing the quality control on this job? As to the Vietnamese cabinets, the problem was two items had to be refabricated. They arrived on 9/24 and 9/28/2020, 8 months after construction start. One item didn't fit the space, and Atlas's installer noted the second had a spliced panel which should've been a solid panel. Getting replacements from Vietnam 6,300 miles away took another 4 months. Would a local source have been a mitigative measure? Bruce also states that I provided the selections after signing the contract, which is only partially correct. We signed on 11/22/2019, and all selections were finalized on 1/24/2020, 3 days before construction start. However, all products were specified on the drawings and specs. Colors and unavailable material substitutions were the main items to be finalized, and I had been working with Kimberly from December 2019. As for allowance costs, I was told we pay what Atlas pays. To characterize me as having unrealistic expectations is spurious. He claims that I saved $1,000 on each toilet. They actually charged me $1,753 extra for each of two toilets. I ultimately paid for all NIC items. Although I accepted all the extra costs without adjustment, I did expect better performance and certainly more transparency and professional communications. Finally on the landscaping, although damage is excluded, they shouldn't cause damage with impunity. With advance notice, I could've relocated the shrubs. Their portable toilet, lumber racks, and staging area also remained in my yard for 10 months rather than the scheduled 3-4 months, resulting in more extensive damage. However, I didn't ask for anything except for replacement of two shrubs, which I thought was reasonable. For $75, it's an issue? Regular weekly reports including photos were filed on their project management Buildertrend website and emailed to their project manager. I also summarized issues in a post-completion report. There has never been any comments or a rebuttal of the reports until Bruce's Yelp comments. I wish he was more attentive earlier when it mattered. read more

They never got back to me and I had to call a second time to inquire about constructing a home on a vacant lot. And when I finally secured an appointment and waited patiently for two weeks they called a day before to postpone it another week. I guess they don't need the business! read more

I called Atlas to do some work from me. Unfortunately, they don't work on condos. I asked for suggestions on who to use - they asked for my phone number and said someone would get back to me. The OWNER got back to me. He spent at least a half hour on the phone with me discussing what I was looking for. He asked for pictures to help him understand the situation. We spoke again, and he gave me suggestions on who to use and how to save money! We have texted several times and has been very helpful. Don't use this company. Poor customer service and follow up after only requesting for an estimate. I returned the call to get my estimate on 06/20/20, and was told he will call me right back. Today is 06/23/20, Tuesday and received no call back. Based on their website they will call back within 2 days and still no call back for my estimate. My rating is zero. read more

Our experience with Atlas Construction began with Project Coordinator, Nathan Park. His quick response to my email request was the beginning of the transformation of our single family home into an updated, more functional multi-generational home. We felt right at home with the Atlas team from the moment we stepped into their office. Throughout the process, we met other members of the Atlas family and everyone was always warm and welcoming to us...from Bruce Kim, president of Atlas to 'Uncle', who helped with deliveries and pickups to checking traffic to let us out safely from their office driveway! No question or request was too small or inconsequential for any of the Atlas team, from project manager, Rance Tabangay, selections with Mika McKinny to office manager, Reyna Kim and the various working foremen (Nick, Loren, Ian) on our project. A big mahalo to Rance, who was always available to us, while juggling other projects and also tending to the needs of his family and the birth of his new son in the middle of our project! As our family remained in the home during the renovation, the Atlas team ensured the security and safety of our property was their main priority. And knowing my pregnant daughter was due approximately 2 weeks after the estimated end date of the project, they did everything possible to finish the renovation before baby came home. The entire staff is very knowledgeable and helpful throughout the entire building process from planning and permitting to the selection of materials, paints, appliances, and finishing products. They recommended excellent subcontractors and vendors who were very helpful and reasonably priced. They worked closely with us during construction to ensure that what was built and installed was exactly what we wanted, frequently making recommendations that made our home functionally and aesthetically beautiful. Stay far far away from Atlas, especially if you want an ADU. What they will try to do is offer you a "cookie cutter" plan that they already have in stock and try to somehow fit in your lot. But they will still charge you custom prices for a cookie cutter premade plan. Yikes. That's why Nathan told me they don't really use architects - just draft persons. They are however, very friendly and have a solid sales pitch that they've probably rehearsed a million times... Family business, we're all cousins, blah blah blah. They say they treat their customers like family by giving them fair prices. However, after getting estimates for an ADU, I found contractors who would do a custom house - the way I want it to be built - for less than their cookie cutter home. The real kicker was estimates on renovating my old house. Definitely don't go to Atlas for renovations. That's way to "small time" and not worth their effort. They want to focus on their cookie cutter homes to make the most profit with the most ease. For a kitchen, and bathroom renovation of a small old house - I got a quote for a bit over $85,000. They'll just show you their "fancy" spreadsheet program that lay outs all the costs, etc and tell you, "oh wow, you saved money here and here, etc." Try asking them for a copy of that spreadsheet. They won't give it to you. They want to test you first and see if they can get away it. They'll probably only give you an estimate once you agree to the contract. Is that treating us like family? Charging $85,000 for a simple renovation that I found another big contractor to do for $36,000? Is that why the president of the company drives a Porche and all of his "cousins" also have nice big trucks lining up the parking lot of their "building"? Sorry Atlas, that's not the Ohana way. In regards to your comment mentioning that "every" single house is custom designed - I did not get that impression at all. Nathan was pretty set on putting his pre-designed Adu on to my lot. And after I reviewed my phone recording of our hour long conference at your building - he did explicitly say that your company uses draftspersons and rarely architects. And I did request a copy of of the estimate and did not receive any. If that is really true, please email me the spreadsheet estimate when you have a chance. Over $36,000 in materials for a small renovation of a small bathroom and a "wetbar" sized kitchen? Are you serious? Wow, that'll show yelpers that your costs of materials may be extremely inflated. Or possibly that your choice for materials is out of touch with what the average local family can afford. Because, frankly no I cannot afford "over" $36,000 in materials for a small renovation on a 45-year old Hicks made home. The contractor I hired did an absolute fine job in the renovation and came in under budget at $32,800. He is building my custom ADU know and is on track to finish in less than 2.5 months. The nine-ceiling I requested cost me an extra $2,500 - not the extra 10% of total ADU price that Nathan mentioned because he claimed "everything" is made for 8ft measurements. (after replaying the audio of the conference - I found this interesting tidbit. Now, I realize that the inflated 10% cost was simply due to the fact that he was "really" hoping he could use his already designed ADU instead of coming up with a new plan. I understand though - it's probably better to save the draftspersons costs for new single-family homes and larger projects. I apologize if you think I was "attacking" your family's integrity. I was not. I was commenting on a simple observation. I was also simply expressing my views and how I DEFINITELY did not feel like "family" with my experience. We met with several contractors when starting our renovation, and chose Atlas. They were the middle quote. My sister was finishing up a renovation and told me that she didn't choose Atlas because they were too expensive. She then added, I guess you get what you pay for. She said she could see that Atlas was meticulous when it came to their build quality. We saw the same thing when it came to our home. When you consider the quality of the materials and the added cost to guarantee roofing for 50 years or their own testing to find the best paint, that's why they may cost more than a contractor using less durable materials, but it will definitely save money in the long run. I feel we got so much more than we paid for. When starting such a massive undertaking as renovating a home, the complexity of the job became apparent. Atlas excelled at customer service and communication. We are very happy with the job they did for us, and would use them again for other projects in the future. Was everything in the timeline perfect? Of course not. There were a few issues, but nothing that set the job back or cost us more in the end. We didn't pay a penny more than what was agreed upon. They gave us their purchasing power when going to their preferred vendors so we got extras at their price. Everyone from Atlas and every subcontractor who entered our home was courteous and respectful. 3 months after completion of the job, they met with us to go over the job and get our feedback. They were very clear that any constructive criticism would be very helpful for them to better service clients in the future. They also brought a gift basket with cleaning supplies, household items like a garden hose, and tools. This company works very hard at providing amazing customer service and doing the best job they can. They told us to call them for any problems even after the warranty period since they have yet to refuse any repairs unless frivolous. We are very satisfied customers. If you are considering a build or renovation, definitely consider Atlas. There's a reason they've been named Hawaii's Best for so many years. read more

Dpp sent me a violation letter stating that i owe 57K because the former owner put an illegal wall over the sewer easement and Atlas offered to help by having a designer help to draw the plans and submit for a building permit after demolishing the portion of the wall over the easement. They were very courteous and helpful and we are in the process of getting the permit. read more

Our home project w atlas is pretty much complete! We couldn't be happier w the outcome. The team was amazing. Nathan was our initial point of contact - trustworthy, honest and always punctual and quick to respond. He set the tone for the entire project. The rest of the team did not disappoint! The quality of the work and the detail and energy Saul, Matt, Clayton and the rest of their guys put into making our space better than we expected is amazing. SO hard to find that nowadays. The team was always polite and respectful around our family and kids - very important. I don't EVER write reviews but for this I felt it was necessary. I called Atlas and the receptionist was very nice and she set me up with an estimate to renovate my brick ranch style home. I waited the 72 hours to get a call back from an agent who would come and look at my home to get the estimate. I was told I would get the estimate within 7 days. I waited 8 days and spoke with another receptionist who stated she would check with the agent who came and looked at my home for the estimate. He called me and told me he would get it to me by Saturday...Saturday came and went... I've been waiting 2 1/2 weeks still with no estimate. This is an unacceptable way to do business! I don't even want your estimate at this point. I just hope you don't treat anyone else the same way I've been treated. Good luck on your future! read more

Atlas was prompt in returning my call about adding a second story to my home. The consultant Joshua "Josh" was extremely friendly and knowledgable. After walking the home with me describing my wishes, he was patient and honest that it wasn't realistic in my budget. He helped break down the estimated cost to do each section I wanted to renovate, add on to, reconfigure, etc. I can understand how people's emotions may be deflated with reality, and give a bad review, but I don't blame the contractor! It's just the high cost of Hawaii. And it's my decision to continue living here... Even while drooling over HGTV (cheaper) beautiful renovations with their bathrooms the size of my living room!!! *sigh* So deflated heart, but FIVE STAR review - WHY??? Josh went WAYYYY beyond the scope of a consultant during the walkthrough. Just so happened someone mentioned the constantly running toilet and he actually helped me look at it, hands in the tank water and everything!!! He stated his disclaimer (don't worry Atlas legal) that he wasn't a licensed plumber, etc. but the fact he was even cared and was willing to spend the extra time helping me was amazing!! You just don't get this type of fantastic customer service anymore! Plus he also looked at the rollers on my closet door since it kept falling off. Seriously, that's real service and caring. This impression patterns Atlas's service quality you'll receive when they're building for you! Now I just have to get my budget to do my awesome renovation.... Review to be updated in the future (couple years *sigh*) since you know I'll be using Atlas to finish my actual design and construction service!! Don't bother looking around for other contractors because Atlas really is the best choice. We wanted to build an extension off of our parents home and wanted to do a three bedroom, 1 bath place of our own. We did our research on other contractors and at first, met with a different contractor for an estimate. This other contractor was referred to us by a family friend so we figured we'll check them out. The estimate they gave us was higher than our budget and the draft that was drawn up was not really what we wanted. Needless to say, we didn't "feel" it with them and decided to look for another contractor....Enter Atlas Construction! From the very first phone call for a meeting to the completion of our new home, Atlas has been WONDERFUL! I first noticed during my research that they were voted #1 contractor in Hawaii. Good sign right? We met up with Josh for an estimate and things started to look up for us. Josh came prepared with information, portfolios, and an estimate that was lower than the other contractors price. Not only was the estimate lower but they were able to draw plans to include the three bedrooms that we desperately needed (side note: we were living in a 1 bedroom, 400 square foot place at the time) Did I mention, my wife and I have three young children...yeah, pretty tight for us. Once we finalized out plans we happily signed our contract with Atlas and eagerly awaited for out new home to be built. This is the really exciting part. Our permits didn't take long to begin construction and right afterwards a crew was breaking ground. I was amazed at how fast the construction of our house took. The owner, Bruce Kim, was our project manager and he was simply AWESOME! A really friendly, polite, knowledgeable, helpful, and professional guy. Bruce and his crew took care of everything we needed including making helpful adjustments to our house that made it even better. Communication with Atlas was seamless. Every time we called for questions or comments Bruce, Josh, or someone at Atlas were always there for us. I honestly don't have one bad thing to say about our experience with Atlas. My wife came up with a term calling it, "The Atlas Experience". hahaha. She describes the Atlas Experience as having a contractor which does quality work, is trustworthy, and professional. I think one day the phrase, "Atlas Experience" will become common knowledge. Needless to say, once our home was completed we were so happy and satisfied with our new home. I've been meaning to write this review. I don't like to give businesses negative reviews. However....... after speaking with some friends and relatives. And after I read the previous negative review on Atlas, I figured why not! It's not to bad mouth this business but to ensure they're aware of this continuous, bad customer service.. Couple months ago, I was researching for contractors to obtain an estimate on my kitchen renovation. My cousin used Atlas for her home rebuilding and the end result looked really great ! I thought!! I called them to schedule an appt to come over and get an estimate- but right off the bat, I could not believe it.... the lady with her "sweet personable voice" .... did not even offer to schedule an appt with me. She immediately, without asking any questions, nor seeing my place, gave me an estimate of $20 thousand for my small kitchen in my town house. In the same conversation, when I told her my bathrooms needed a makeover, she said the whole project would be $50 thousand. At this point, I'm just dumbfounded and in shock! I'm not an expert in home remodeling, but I do know the first step is to get an estimate. Huge BIG RED FLAG! . How can someone give an estimate over the phone without taking any measurements and/ or discussing it with the customer? Some friends have told me they're overpriced and they probably brushed me off with an overinflated estimate because they did not want work to work on my house.. Project too small? .. if that's the case, they should just be honest and be straightforward.. They lost a potential customer right from the beginning. All based on poor customer service... But yes, I definitely agree with the other person, it's their lost. .. Im glad I have have found a really good contractor, very professional, helpful, personable, and he also gave me a very reasonable estimate.. demolition starting today.. I think if you're entrusting contractors to work on your home, and spending all that money.. simple advice..... you need to feel comfortable with them and have that sense of trust from the beginning.. read more

While the person on the phone was courteous and very pleasant, she referred me to Mary whom I guess does the estimates. Mary was also pleasant but I could tell she really didn't want to give me an estimate when she tells me off the top that a kitchen renovation starts at 50k without even seeing my kitchen. Then asks me if I want to think about it for a week. Huh??? Really??? After I tell her that I still wanted the estimate, she then asks me for my address. When I gave her my address, which is in Nanakuli, she says that they DO NOT service anywhere past "Ihilani" hotel, which is now Four Seasons, due to the commute and that it would be hard for them to commute back and forth with the traffic. I really think that was unprofessional and a complete waste of phone time, as she should have asked for my address from the beginning. That way, I wouldn't have had to get that type of feeling that she didn't want to give me an estimate in the first place. Oh well, your lost!!! Just a warning people, this company DOES NOT service the real WEST SIDE!! Don't waste your time if you live in the Nanakuli, Maile, Waianae & Makaha area. We can find other businesses that do!! When we decided to renovate our house, I was referred to Atlas construction by several coworkers and friends. I called Atlas to get an estimate on how much it would cost and Josh came out right away to meet with us. We explained to Josh what we were thinking of doing and he came back to us with several estimates depending on which route we chose to go. Once we finalized the plans, we then had to select our options and Mika was extremely knowledgeable and always courteous when any changes were made.  During the renovation, Rance was our lead contact guy and he was easy to get a hold of if we had any questions/concerns. Although we had several different on-site head foreman, due to unforeseeable circumstances out of the company's control, but each one of them were polite and respectful and also listened to our concerns and answered our questions. Our house is an older house and during the renovations there were some unforeseen problems, but Rance and/or Bruce (owner/president) always reached out to us explaining the situation and we were able to problem solve together, oftentimes without added much expense. From the blueprints to the final coat of paint, everything came out the way we wanted. read more
