Spencer, from Kurihara Contracting, was different. He got back to us and quickly and scheduled a visit. Upon meeting him, we felt very at ease and comfortable. He was very knowledgable and seemed to be a straight shooter (I wanted some storage over the toilet and he straight up told me that would be weird because it would block the bathroom window). After listening to what we were thinking, he came up with a plan and gave us an estimate. We didn't get any renderings (not sure if bathroom renovations get those?) but we knew he knew what he was doing, so it wasn't really an issue - Mom and I were trusting he and his team's professionalism and it worked! Did we have any idea of the cost of a bathroom renovation? No. Was it more than I imagined it to be? Honestly, yes. But after the job was done, did I think it was worth it? ABSOLUTELY YES. The job Kurihara Contracting did with our master bathroom was AWESOME. And I think with this company, you get what you pay for - The professionalism, consideration, final product...chef's kiss! Our bathroom looks so much larger and brighter! We just love it. We were also able to upgrade to a toilet we wanted (something really important to my mom ;D). OMG Kuihara Contractors is amazing!!! My flooring that they installed is wonderful! Spencer and Pono was so thorough during the estimate. And once the material arrived and it was time to get started...bam! They got to work! And they were flexible with my work schedule. (It did help that I had 5 days off in a row). The crew was so amazing and hard working. I appreciated their patience with me as I clarified the plans for the day. Pono was very communicable, helpful and informative with the day to day plans. He even let me know when he was delayed when going to the dump and finding a long line. I loved that they all respected my space and belongings. Based upon all the positive reviews, I made an appointment to schedule an estimate to have renovation work done on my home. Spencer K came over and looked over my request and provided sources for ideas then said he would get back to me with an estimate. A few weeks passed with no estimate. In the meantime, I called and asked if I could get the exterior of the house painted first. Spencer agreed, gave me a quote, I selected my colors, and work began shortly after. Fixing some problem areas first, I was happy with the work. Very neat. Next, a guy came out to do the power washing of the house. Everything seemed to be going as planned until the power washing was done. I started to notice discolorations in my carport area and driveway (I have colored concrete impression driveway.) When I pointed it out, I was told it must be dirt since it was a reddish-brown color. So what good is the power washing if it can't get dirt out? It wasn't until the next morning that I saw the extent of the damage that the power wash did when the driveway was dry. The smooth "river rock" surface was gone and a dull gray rough surface appeared. I called Spencer back and he came out with the guy who did the power washing. They didn't have much to say except that it must be exposure to the elements. Yes, that can have an effect but how do you explain the smooth surface "spots" that dot the driveway? Also, my entry gate has Big Rock manufactured stepping stones which was also stripped of its surface and the power washing loosened some paved river rocks. Spencer "remedied" the situation by cement caulking the river rock and then applying a "wet look" sealant over the entire driveway. It was a nice gesture but now I have a very dull, rough surface that looks wet only on some of the areas that managed to not lose their surface and the entry gate area looks horrible. Very unhappy so one star deducted. On the day of painting, a large crew came out and got to work right away with the prep work. Good to see that. The painting was done in a day and from what I could see, it looked really nice. The next day, I was able to see everything in the morning light. There were some spots that were missed and areas where paint got onto the windows. Spencer sent out a guy to do the touch-ups which was great. Unfortunately, I later discovered paint on a second floor window that is hard to get to. There was also a lot of paint that dripped onto the graveled areas and paint overspray on the window frames so another star deducted. To be fair, Spencer does have the qualities of a good contractor by being there at the start of the job, observing the crew, and making sure that the work was completed as agreed to. I am only basing this review on my experience. read more

The absolute best in the game. We remolded our whole interior including a new kitchen, living room, lighting, dry wall, and all new flooring. This included demo, planning, and finishes. They are a small team, which enables you to speak directly to Spencer Kurihara, the owner. You will also get to know the staff, who are very trustworthy. The kitchen took a lot of planning and he worked with us to make it perfect. He had a kitchen designing specialist come out and made a drawing to our specifications. They are also very reasonably priced and will not rip you off. He will work with you on whatever design you want. We have many other interior and exterior renovation projects planned in the future and I can guarantee I will be calling Kurihara. I reached out to Spencer about a month ago and have had an AMAZING experience so far. I am telling all of my homeowner friends about him because I simply cannot believe how lucky I was to finally find a good contractor. He has literally saved me from a mental breakdown. We have had terrible experiences with contractors in the past so we started to DIY projects. Over several months we would slowly complete things on nights/weekends, at a calm pace that we could manage. That was going well until we unexpectedly had to move quickly (moving out of state for job) and we were in the middle of several projects. There was no way we would be able to finish. We reached out to so many contractors, handymen, anyone who would answer a Yelp request and anyone that a friend/acquaintance knew. Some people just ghosted us, some people gave exhorbitant quotes, some suggested patch jobs instead of actually fixing the problem, so many different issues. It was a nightmare Enter Spencer. He does a great job communicating. I cannot stress this enough! He responds quickly, clearly, and thoroughly. He is easy to talk to. He uses text, email, calls, and meets in person. He has a good personality too and I feel like a friend is taking care of me/my home. He was also so accomodating to my schedule, which I really appreciated. I am a woman and not particularly strong/intimidating, and I felt very comfortable with him and each of his people in my home. Since we had several half-finished projects, I got to meet many different members of his team. Flooring, carpentry, painters, plumber, etc. I have only good things to say about them, but I want to give credit to the few who I think were absolutely exceptional at their work: Edison-- fabricated and installed a beautiful corian countertop! I have never installed a countertop but even I could notice and appreciate his attention to detail. I knew that I needed a countertop that is longer than corian slabs come in, so there would have to be a seem somewhere. Edison did such a smart design that you cannot even see it! He did all these little things that really elevated the entire kitchen. With the extra corian pieces he made a little ledge for my kitchen window and even some trivets for serving bowls. Absolutely outstanding in every way! I was watching him like a hawk because I was so intrigued by everything he did. It was fascinating to see his craftsmanship. He was so kind to answering my questions the whole time. I cannot say enough good things about him. As a DIY-er, I learn whenever I can, and I learned so much from watching Edison. Dylan-- several jobs, but what really stood out was how exceptionally good he patched drywall. He removed and replaced a large section of damaged drywall. I have never seen such a seamless patch job, matching the texture of the surrounding area. I still have a few more things to wrap up with Spencer, but I wanted to share this while I can still remember details.
