We wholeheartedly recommend Bernardo's Painting based on the quality of the work. The price was not inexpensive, but included carpentry repairs and extensive and expensive scaffolding. The cost of the painting itself was comparable to bids from other ladder work companies. We have used such companies before and the prep work cannot compare to what Bernardo's Painting accomplished. Our house is built on an incline being effectively three stories in the rear. Carpentry work included replacement of siding at ground level and second story. The latter could not have been done without scaffolding. The owner kept in touch and explained any delays, mostly rainy weather in the winter. I recently selected Bernardo's Painting to paint open beam ceilings in my seafront 1961 Hicks home in Mokuleia. I interviewed another recommended painter, but the detailed plan that Bernardo presented to me was far more thorough and I felt more confident with it. Price was not my prime concern; I needed high quality workmanship that would last for many years. I live in a demanding and harsh marine environment and I have paid for mediocre painting on previous occasions that did not endure. Bernardo's crew is fantastic. They are true craftsmen. Esmo, Clyde, CJ, Fabian, & Gary obviously like working together, are efficient, careful, thorough, take pride in their work, and play great music. Since Bernardo and his fine crew have been here and painted, I've never been happier with the appearance of my house. When we bought the place, the exterior was beige with dark brown trim but now our home is a jewel of periwinkle blue and white trim. Every wall and window and door gleams. Whenever I return home, my house looks more beautiful, and the new look puts a smile on my face. This house was built before I was born, and I'm in my sixties, but now we both look younger and more attractive. Because the house is older, a number of repairs were needed before the painting could proceed, and one of my favorite features of working with Bernardo is that his crew includes an exceptional carpenter Fabian, who does excellent work. Fabian replaced a bathroom window and two outside doors and locks as well as working on a plan with me to reinforce and add to the slats that close off the underside of the house to cats and other animals. In one case, Fabian made a repair inside the house that allowed me to finish some interior painting. With the pre-painting repairs, which were more than reasonably priced, the painting job was completed quickly and efficiently. The painters were a bunch of excellent guys who showed up on time, did the work well, checked in with us regularly about their progress, and clearly enjoyed the work and doing work well. The crew accepted revisions in the work plan and immediately acted on any changes, checking in often to confirm that the job was progressing as envisioned. Every member was accommodating and gracious and did exactly what we requested. Very important was the comprehensive and clear planning that Bernardo and I did before the work began, and as the job progressed, we were able to make modifications that were even more to the liking of me and my spouse. l am very particular about house colors, and I spent a good three weeks focused on finding the perfect shade. Bernardo was helpful, leading me to websites to review the available paints and encouraging me to take my time even as the date for the job approached. His patience and assistance led to me finding exactly the right color, and when the painting began, I like to think that even the crew was impressed with my choice. :) Perhaps best of all, Bernardo is a personable, helpful, open, generous, and thoughtful man who responded honestly and fully to every question that my wife and I had about the project. Whenever we, and probably you, want to or must get work done on the house, we want to be comfortable and confident about the company and people with whom we work. Bernardo is definitely that guy you can trust, believe, and understand when he answers the questions that come up. Bernardo checked in regularly, coming by often to check out the house himself and talk to us about the job and the progress, and best of all, to ask whether I was satisfied and whether there were new changes or adjustments to be made or questions to be asked. I am extremely impressed with Bernardo's Painting. As a company, they have an overall work ethic of putting the client first and being cognizant and respectful of their needs. I cannot say enough good things about the owner, Bernardo, and his crew. But let me give my best attempt. My wife and I planned our recent home renovation in two phases. The first phase involved installing split AC and removing the existing window AC units that were built into the walls. The second phase would be painting the interior of our home. I reached out to multiple painting and AC contractors. Luckily, I chose well in both cases. Bernardo was able to have his in-house carpenter (Fabian) build the framing for the holes left in the walls that the window AC's created. He also fixed the exterior siding and painted the patches to match the rest of the house. From the outside of our house, you can't even tell there used to be large, rectangular cutouts for old AC units! Bernardo also contracted a drywall subcontractor to patch up the interior. The interior repair job was just as seamless as the exterior. Very impressive job, and that was before the interior painting. The wall repair work was more costly than my wife and I anticipated, so we asked Bernardo if we could hold off on the painting work until we saved more funds. Bernardo was very understanding and accommodating to our needs. A little more than 6 months later, we called him up to schedule the interior painting. Bernardo honored his initial quote and had his crew at our home about a week after my call. In my line of work, I deal with many contractors from all disciplines. It's common to have a leader (owner, superintendent, foreman) who is capable, respectful, and takes pride in their work. It's very rare to have an entire work crew who conducts themselves in the same manner. Esmo, Clyde, Fabian, Gary, CJ, and Preston were a joy to work with. They took great care in protecting our belongings from getting paint on them and put things back EXACTLY how they were at the end of each day. They were extremely efficient with how they worked, and did their best to sequence their work to cause the least disruption to me as I worked from home. They arrived early each day, cleaned everything up by the end of the day, and had great communication with their progress. Other little things that may sound silly, but are greatly appreciated (especially after experience with previous contractors): -They were very friendly to our dog, and made sure he didn't accidentally rub up against wet walls and get paint on him -They left the bathrooms clean after using them throughout the day -They asked where they could store their materials so it would not be in our way -They made sure to do the baby's room and the master bedroom first so that we would have access to them as soon as possible -They worked very well together, and obviously enjoyed doing so That last point is important. A crew that works well together does a better job. And since they were always in a good mood, they were easily approachable with comments or questions. I talked story with almost all of them, and they are all down-to-earth, very good guys. At the end of each day, Bernardo came to check on the progress and make sure that everything was being done to our satisfaction. And on top of all of that, the price was very reasonable, especially considering that they use the top-of-the-line paint from Sherwin Williams. I waited till I received 3 other estimates on our interior wall paint before I decided to post this review. I had a conversation with Bernardo after submitting some photos and information he wanted. He called and spoke to me about what I wanted painted. Literally the walls. That's it. I told him we had 3 huge ceiling to floor windows in the living room and the wall space is very small. We literally wanted the walls, no frame, and nothing else painted. Not even the inside of the closets. So on our almost 1500 sq ft home which had more windows than actual walls, his estimate came a staggering almost 50% more than the other 3 estimates we got!!!! He seemed to hesitant to just state the cost when I was on the phone with him. Maybe we got the Hawai'i Kai price. I was so shocked! My realtor girlfriend was in the car with me when I was on the phone with him and she couldn't believe what he quoted me. Over 11k!!!! So he's one company she will not be referring to anyone. The second story on our home needed a new coat of paint and extra preparation due to weather related cracked calk and peeling paint. By far the most labor intensive portion of the project was our deck railing that required lots of scraping, sanding and re-calking. The walls of the house are board and batten which also needed a lot of re-calking. Bernardo's employees did a wonderful job! Bernardo and his crew manager were responsive to our requests and kept us informed daily about their work schedule. They were professional, very thoughtful and really a nice group of people. Completely satisfied! We were looking for a professional, dependable painter to provide quality workmanship to our home. We wanted to make sure the prep work would be completed properly and the quality of paint would be long lasting. As homeowners, we understand that the exterior of our home protects the interior and paint plays an important role. We found Bernardo on Yelp and decided to give him a try. We requested a quote from the Yelp site and shortly after received an email and call from Laura, the office manager. They were able to quickly schedule an estimate around our schedule. During the estimate, Bernardo walked around our home and pointed out areas of concern and an estimate was provided to us several days later. Choosing a painting contractor was difficult because there are many qualified painters in town. Bernardo's Painting caught my attention because of the overwhelming positive reviews and awards as Best Painting Co. We chose Bernardo's to paint our home and are very pleased with their excellent work, and customer service. Bernardo went out of his way to help research the paint colors we desired. We had a tough time because our Homeowners Association kept denying our selections; fortunately, Bernardo was very patient and continued to assist us. We finally had to concede with sticking to the original house colors and Bernardo contacted Castle and Cooke to ensure we had the correct colors. The first step was a complete house wash which actually improved the appearance significantly. Next, caulking and patching was done. Before painting, complete masking and taping was done around the house. Even the concrete deck was protected with drop cloths and covers which were taped down to keep them in place. When the painting was completed, we were very happy with the results. Bernardo only uses top quality paint to ensure it will provide a great appearance and protection for a long time. Bernardo's Painting did an amazing job making my house look brand new again! I obtained quotes from other companies, some quoted higher and some lower prices, but decided to use Bernardo's Painting mainly because of the amount of positive reviews they received from other customers. During my quote with Bernardo, he really listened to my concerns and what I wanted out of my project and gave me options/routes I can take without sounding like a salesman. Speaking of listening to my concerns, I read a negative review saying that they were asked unrelated questions that had nothing to do with their project. I too was asked these questions BUT I was shortly led to believe that Bernardo is 'listening' to his customers, learning mistakes made by other contractors and trying not to repeat them... Quite clever if you ask me. Moving forward, day 1 eave vents around my entire house were installed and did a complete pressure wash down of the house. Day 2, everything masked, house and trim was completed by early afternoon. I couldn't believe how quickly the house was painted so I did my own careful walk around expecting to see a hack/rushed job. I was just amazed at how well the attention to detail was around the trim and how clean the separation of different color paint lines were. I also checked behind difficult painting areas such as my AC condensing unit outside where I can't even fit my hand behind, yet the wall behind it had an even thick coat of paint! Day 3, painted my garage door and did a complete walk through for any touch ups and everything was done before lunch! Im in awe with the quality of work performed in such a short amount of time. Bernardo's painting really knows how to do their job efficiently and meticulous without sacrificing quality. I've got nothing but great things to say about Bernardo's Painting, they know what they're doing and they do it very well, unlike other companies who hire apprentices to practice painting (I don't think anyone reading this would pay to have their house practiced on).
