He tore down an old closet and removed a door to give us a flat back wall for a new built-in, framed and drywalled around a lava rock wall so we could install an AC unit, and covered up a CMU wall to give it a clean, smooth look. He also helped with a few smaller fixes along the way without any fuss. He showed up on time, worked quickly, and paid close attention to the details. The work areas were kept tidy every day, and he explained what he was doing so we always knew the plan. What stood out most was how versatile and skilled he is--he handled framing, drywall, and finish work all in one go. My partner and I recently purchased our first condo in town and we wanted to update our old popcorn ceilings to a beautiful skim coat. Our new home is roughly 500 sqft and we had a tight, 2-week moving window. We're so grateful to find Johnny, with ABC Handyman Hawaiʻi. It all started when there was a leak behind my condo shower wall from above so they had to cut out a tile & most of the backer board and another 15x15 in hole in the drywall adjacent in order to get through to replace faulty pipes. I called John to repaint my entire apartment. He replied the same day, and was ready to start the next day. He came to our place and suggested a few other very reasonable things to fix and upgrade; those were the things we wanted to do, but didn't think to ask him, for example, our balcony glass door was so rusted, it is nearly impossible to open. John was able to change the bottom sliding rollers, and now I can slide it with one finger. So smooth! We brought all the supplies he asked, and got him started right away. To find someone reliable to start right away was unheard of! The apartment looked amazing when John finished. This job was estimated to take 1 week for a few other handyman companies that we called, but only took 2 days for John, and on top of painting, John did much more...he removed my rusted door knob that other handyman had trouble doing so, install fire alarm, changed ceiling and bathroom light fixtures, changed 9 wall electric switch plates, fixed water damages and bubbles on the wall, and hang my 40 inch TV on the wall. The way he hang the TV was very nice, the wire went behind the wall, so you don't see the wires, which looked so clean and nice! Living in Hawaii, it is hard to find Competent, Professional, and affordable Handyman services. Well with ABC Handyman, you get all three. I had a water leak from upstairs condo neighbor which ruined the drywall in my bathroom ceiling and then had some other drywall holes. I called John on 17 Mar and 19 Mar did the work needed. I had a leak in my bathroom that was seeping into my downstair neighbor's condo. The plumber came back 4 times and changed something each time, with my neighbor still complaining about a leak. This was a nightmare I thought would never end. After a month had passed and the plumbers made a huge hole in the ceiling, I needed to find someone to fix the drywall. I wasn't looking forward to hassling with a drywall person, so I turned to Yelp to help me find someone. I was so lucky to find John! He was very rude, he said he was on a job which I understand and asked if we could schedule something for after his current project. He said he would not do the job because he can't make enough money doing it! Couldn't be happier. I accidentally bumped into John in the elevator of a new condo development about 4 years ago. We briefly talked and I learned he was installing celling fans in a unit. He left such a good impression I looked him up 4 years later and had him install 3 ceiling fans in my condo. He assembled, tested, (and made sure each fan remote was on a separate channel) and completed everything in a few hours. He was professional and respectful. This is especially important during Covid times when wearing a mask is important. What I liked best about John was his pride in workmanship. This was my review from YP. Don't know why I never yelped it in the past. In 2015 my company had issues with our glass screen doors. They were hard to open and close, due to the wheels grinding against the metal. We found out about John via Yelp. We have sliding glass doors and he was able to come take a look at it a day after we had called him. Let me tell you, if you have sliding glass doors and you need them repaired, it will cost you an arm and a leg. Just as advertised John can fix it for less! Indeed he did. One company told me that for them to look at what they needed to be fixed was $200 on the spot!  John did great fixing our door. Not only did he fix the issues, he also showed me what was wrong and what caused the problems. He also cleaned out the tracks for us. After doing some repair work, he went and found the parts and fixed it the same day. John's ingenuity, workmanship and friendly personality is what made his service the best. He didn't throw off the vibe that he's trying to sucker money out of us, but to really help us fix our door.  I definitely recommend John to anyone that needs work done, I'm sure he'll find some way to fix your problems. The business has so many five star reviews, and the location is so close to me. Naturally when I needed a handyman to fix my drywall, I tried to contact the business asking for a quote and availability. The first time I called he didn't pick up, so I left a message of what I wanted him to do and my contact number. A few days went by and I did not receive a call back. I figured he was probably just too busy so I called a second time, left a second voice mail, and days later still did not hear from him. So I thought Yelp probably had the wrong contact number listed, and I jumped over to the website listed and left him a message through his website's contact function, and days gone by and I still got zero response. I kept thinking maybe he was too busy, maybe he would reply later. But during the two weeks I've tried contacting him I kept hitting stone wall. So after two weeks I realized my job was probably too small for him and he just doesn't bother. Oh well. Time to move on.
