I would technically say it's a 3.5 stars. It wasn't the best but still good. I would still recommend this restaurant. We went without reservation and sat at the bar. The bartender was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. He gave some great suggestions for the entrees and pairing with wine. The cup of clam chowder was good with lots of chunks. I'm not sure if it's award winning. I can still remember my first time trying Legal seafood's clam chowder and that was a wow. I'm not sure if I can say the same thing. As for entree, I ordered Seabass with lobster ravioli as recommended. It was delicious. It had a light crust on the seabass and the fish was cooked perfectly. The only thing that bothered me with the fish was that it was a tad bit salty. The ravioli was good and on the side, but I think it would be better if the ravioli pasta was a little thinner. I couldn't really taste the filling as well. The fish came on top of a bed of saute spinach. Friend ordered the crab crusted haddock. Fish was cooked perfectly as well. As for why just 3.5 stars and 4? I guess there's really nothing that stands out that says WOW. It's what I expected from a restaurant of its kind. So it's good. I would want to go back and try their oysters though. They look pretty good. read more

My boyfriend and I visited Atlantic Fish Company on a Monday night. There was about an hour wait that night, but we, thankfully, made reservations beforehand. We started our dinner off with the Back Bay Sangria. I was originally going to order a margarita, but the waiter spoke very highly of the sangria, so my boyfriend and I both ordered it. OMG - it was the best sangria I've EVER had. It was perfect! I ordered the Cioppino and my boyfriend ordered the Captain's Platter (fried fish, oysters, scallops, shrimp, etc.). The Captain's Platter was nothing special, in my opinion, but the Cioppino was delicious! It contained gigantic chunks of fish and lobster, and the prawns and scallops were huge as well. My boyfriend definitely felt gipped after seeing and tasting my Cioppino. Overall, we had a great time at Atlantic Fish. The food was excellent and the service was great. I would definitely go back for the Back Bay Sangria, alone! read more

I really wanted to love this place. Perhaps that is my problem; I always have such high expectations of places that are so well-received on Yelp, and it's difficult to meet those expectations. However, I also think that having those expectations prompts me to give a special place more than one try, for fear that it was just a stroke of bad luck that I ordered that particular dish on that particular night at that particular time. I came here for dinner on New Year's Eve, ecstatic that I finally had the chance to try some of the much beloved seafood here at Atlantic Fish. My sister and I ordered a half dozen of the raw Blue Point oysters, which were fantastic. I was especially excited about the shrimp and scallop risotto I ordered (because I simply can't resist scallops and risotto on the same plate - refer to my review for Union Bar and Grille for further proof of my love for both). I think this dish has so much potential. I loved the combination of risotto, sweet potatoes, and crispy prosciutto. In fact, the flavors on that plate were all great, so I'm only commenting on the execution here - the tough, overcooked scallops, and the gummy risotto. So disappointing. However, on a positive note, I tried my sister's cioppino, which was chock-full of seafood and delicious broth. So, given the fact that I was expecting to be blown away, it was a slightly disappointing first trip to Atlantic Fish, but I have not given up on this place just yet, and I will be back soon! I was set on getting the lobster roll for lunch per Yelpers' suggestions, but I was sold on the daily special when the waiter read it to me--something along the lines of a Chilean sea bass over a risotto. My boyfriend caved and got a sea bass entree too. Both our dishes were cooked to perfection (mine was better, ha); I've never had sea bass or risotto nearly as perfect as what AFC delivered. The clam chowder of course did not disappoint either; filled with clams and all around yumminess. There was no wait for Sunday brunch when we arrived luckily. The service was really great as well. Our waitress was so happy and energetic! I love consistency in a restaurant so I appreciate that I had just as enjoyable experience as other reviewers. Definitely recommend! Tip: Make a reservation in advance to avoid a wait. read more

We had a pretty stellar experience at the Atlantic Fish Company for a birthday dinner celebration. It was super windy outside, so they had to move the outdoor patrons inside to other tables. As a result, they were unable to seat us for 10 minutes past our reservation (somewhat disappointing but understandable). Our server was very friendly and accommodating. He gave us some great recommendations, and we ended up ordering the Clam Chowder, the Strawberry Mixed Greens Salad, and the Caesar Salad as appetizers to share. All of them were tasty! However, the Clam Chowder was certainly the stand out. It was amazingly creamy and rich without being overpowering. For dinner, the table had the Lobster Roll, two of the Halibut Specials, and a Grilled Bass with two sides. Everything was tasty, but the special dishes were the best. The sides (some sort of mini veggie salads and rice) complemented the dishes nicely. Unfortunately, the Lobster Roll was pretty disappointing. The bread looked perfectly buttered, but it tasted pretty bland and uninspiring. The lobster itself wasn't that flavorful and mouthwatering (like I had expected). The side fries were extremely greasy and tasteless. For dessert, we had a Sour Cherry Cobbler and some coffee. The Cobbler was alright but definitely nothing special to match the starters and Bass dishes. Overall a great ambiance and experience. Stick with the fish specials for a suburb meal! read more

Atlantic Fish Company lived up to it's expectations. I visited for lunch and had the pleasure of enjoying my first Lobster Roll there. It exceeded my expectations. The fries that accompanied the lobster roll were good, but they were nothing extraordinary. The service was average, although they were very busy at the time we visited. read more

I just don't have anything that I could possibly critique about this place! Stopped by AFC on the way home from a Sox game to grab some quick oysters and chowder at the bar. The bartender was awesome - I'd shout him out if I remembered his name. We had great service with a lot of jokes and conversation... not always the case at other high end restaurants in Back Bay. You have the option to sit outside on a nice summer day or inside on a chilly winter day and both options are great. The chowder has won a bunch of awards around Boston and it truly is one of the best. It isn't overly thick or rich which some Boston restaurants attempt to do in order to cater to tourists. But if you know authentic chowder, it should be served thin without loads of sodium. They definitely nail it. You can also choose from a variety of east coast oysters and other high end seafood and meat dishes. It is on the pricier side, but the prime location and quality of food make it completely reasonable. read more

I came here with my parents for my graduation dinner this past Friday night. We made reservations around 5pm. This place was quickly packed after we finished dinner. I ordered the Lobster Ravioli. At first, I wasn't impressed since I felt like I didn't get that many pieces. But as I started eating it, I got full pretty fast. I think it's the right amount. My dad got the Seafood Fra Diavolo. We asked if we can change the sauce since my dad cannot handle spicy and they were able to make it with marinara sauce. My mom got the Shrimp and Scallop Risotto and she loved her dish! They gave us a free dessert since it was my graduation. We got the Peppermint Ice Cream Pie and it was amazing! The service was really spectacular and attentive. I can't wait to come back here with my boyfriend. read more

Came on a Thursday night with Open Table reservations - was seated right away. We were a party of 2 - and were seated at a table packed between 4 different tables - so my husband could barely pull his chair out to sit down. One of the tables blocking us in was a loud table of 8. My husband had the special - blackened halibut with Parmesan pesto risotto - and he really enjoyed that. I had steak (not a seafood person) and it was a good steak (not great though - which is understandable considering we were at a seafood place). The peppermint ice cream sky was delicious (DH thought it was 'too minty' though) The service started off ok but then our waiter just Kept disappearing (I.e. Asked us if we'd decided on dessert, we said yes, and he walked away). Dinner took way longer than we expected - and we saw larger tables being turned over twice during our dinner - while we sat and waited. My husband would have given this place 4 stars for the good food - and I would give 2 stars for the uncomfortable table and slow service - so we'll settle at a 3. read more

We were in Boston for one night this week and chose to eat at Atlantic Fish Company. We outdoor patio is really beautiful. Our waitress Morgan was outstanding. She was very friendly, and offered great suggestions on meals. One of our meals was less than perfect and she immediately took it back and replaced it, and offered us a free dessert for the inconvenience. The rest of the food was delicious and we had a wonderful evening. read more

The food is amazing and the staff is really friendly. This was our first visit to a restaurant after being vaccinated, and we felt really safe because of the separation of the tables. Also, order the carrot cake, it's incredible!! read more

We chose Atlantic Fish Co because they were rated the highest of the seafood restaurants. We LOVED our apps- calamari grilled & steamers. Both were excellent In taste and prep. Then we had a couple of Fish of the day specials. Mine was Halibut with fries and spinach/garlic confit. My daughters was Salmon and asparagus risotto with French green beans (haricot vert). The halibut was dry and lacked flavor I'm so sorry to say. My daughters salmon was cooked fine but also lacked flavor. The spinach side dish tasted flat and off. The risotto was also off on flavor and wasn't helped by the asparagus. It was flavorless. Ditto with the beans. Just an overall lackluster offering and overpriced as hell. I don't feel like a good person posting this and want to explain it away as Covid related somehow. I would totally give them another chance. read more

Came here for our long weekend wanting some good seafood. Our server Tony was wonderful. Very good service and super helpful. My mom had the hot and dirty but wasn't thrilled with the Tabasco sauce in the drink. Was spicy and good but not the best she's ever had. I had the sangria which was very tasty. The table bread was delicious. A nice variety of warm blueberry mini muffins, white bread, and whole wheat . As our meal we shared tuna tar tar, bacon wrapped scallops, and grilled calamari. Everything was great. Perfect place to go to for some good seafood. read more

First time dining at the Atlantic Fish Co. We went for lunch this past weekend. A slight blip to start- when reservations were made, we were asked to choose indoor or outdoor dining and we chose outdoor. When we checked in, we we told by the hostess that we would have to wait for an outdoor table as they don't offer options for seating when making reservations!!! We had to wait about 20 minutes. Now the good news, the food was excellent! The fish was very fresh and everything was presented beautifully. The three of us had the Thai Octopus, Mussels, Lobster Bisque, Lobster Rolls, Swordfish, Brussel Sprouts & shared the Boston Cream Pie for dessert. Our server was wonderful from start to finish and the cocktails were great! We will add the Atlantic Fish Co. to our "must return" list! read more

It was an incredibly relaxing and high end dining experience. Shawn was attentive without hovering (rarer skill than one would think) and the sommelier is very knowledgeable. She gave a background on each bottle she recommended and gave detailed flavour profiles. We went with the Clos du Val cab sauv and absolutely enjoyed it. The Boston cream pie is also delectable and not to be passed on. Will definitely be back next time when visiting Boston. read more

AMAZING!!! Food AND Service. From Malibu and best place we've been to eat in Boston! The clam chowder is phenomenal. And the crab cakes are divine. The Maine lobster roll is the best we've ever had and the Branzino was fresh and flaky. In addition, corn bread pudding and scalloped potatoes for sides, along w/ their fries was a HUGE win! read more

Growing up in Maine I must admit my expectations of Atlantic Fish were not high at all. I've been living here for years and never gave much thought to the place. Until my friend had reservations here for a bday and all I can say is wow! Service was spot on and super attentive but not over bearing. Bacon wrapped scallops: huge scallops that weee plump and so tasty! Clam chowder: smooth and creamy with loads of clam meat Lobster ravioli: to die for! Fresh lobster meat and the sauce was perfect. There was not one plate left with anything on it. It was that good. Definitely coming back!! read more

I guess there's bad restaurants everywhere. Went to Atlantic Fish Co yesterday. You figure the word fish and they could make that right It was awful. I had the captains platter for $30plus dollars. Four scallops two shrimp six clams and two tiny pieces of fish. Shrimp was so over cooked was like rubber. Clams were not fresh. Scallops had no flavor. The fish was good but only had a taste since there wasn't much of it. How do these places charge so much for so little. If someone is looking for a great seafood plate please go to Kimball farms in Westford. I know it seems odd but I've been all over New England and this is the best tasting and the most for your dollar read more

Clam chowder could use a little more flavor but the lobster roll, fries, and wine were great. Great service too

Easily one of the best high end restaurants I have been to. I went here on my birthday with my family and it's the 3rd time I've been to a sit down restaurant since lockdown. They of course had distance with table spaces being left open so people weren't too close to each other. Our waiter was very nice and chill forgot his name but if I remembered I would say. The food was absolutely great I have nothing bad to say I'll be back some time down the road to have another great dinner. read more

The Atlantic Fish Company is a beautiful restaurant. Although pricey, the quality of the food is exceptional. This restaurant creates simple dishes that are delicious without being too fancy and complicated. For starters, we had a cup of the crab bisque which was creamy and full of tender pieces of fresh crab meat. For entrees, my wife had the cod (baked with breadcrumbs) with spinach and potatoes. She was very pleased with the freshness and preparation of the fish. I had one of the specials-steelhead trout with grilled asparagus and lobster mashed-potatoes. That's right, lobster mashed potatoes. Just imagine the tastiest, fluffiest mashed potatoes every combined with succulent pieces of lobster meat. Yes, it was that good. For dessert we had another special, a homemade vanilla creme-brulee which was fantastic. Our server was OUTSTANDING and we really enjoyed her friendly personality and helpful service. This was our first visit to Atlantic Fish Company and we hope to visit again in the future. Because it is kind of pricey, it is the kind of place to visit for special occasions, hopefully we'll have some more special occasions soon! read more

What can I say.. Awesome service and setting. Awesome atmosphere, I feel like Im in a ship on Atlantic. Omg food is so good! Many choices, easy to understand menu. This is my regular downtown lunch spot with my baby. There are some seats are stroller friendly ; make sure you request in the back/left side booth seats areas. ( also changing table downstairs) . Staffs are friendly and professional trained. I enjoy their clam stew and lobster rolls. They have the best broth for mussels too. Steak and chicken melt/ burgers are good if you don't eat seafoods. Their desserts are gigantic big portion but worth the try if you like mint ice cream flavor. Def good for lunch for groups of people! Popular spots for tourists. read more

1st time in Boston and walked by this Restaurant decided to stop in at 4pm and they were extremely busy! Always a good sign. They still managed to seat us in minutes. Server was very friendly and animated. Had great suggestions (Thank you Carla!). We had the fried Oysters and Calamari appetizers. Very tender, lightly battered and amazing taste! Our entrees were the Halibut and the Seabass. Seared was seared to perfection, rich in flavor. The Halibut was boiled at my wifes request and kept the taste and tenderness. Also had corn pudding, asparagus, and green beans for sides. All great choices. Favorite was the corn pudding. Overall great ambience, excellent service and sea food! They had a very good lobster roll, and offer it warm with drawn butter or cold. Some places only offer this cold so it was great to have the option. They have great service here. I suggest coming here for the entrees over for oysters or smaller dishes. The prosciutto wrapped scallops were okay, a little overdone on the prosciutto where it lost some flavor. read more

One of the better primary seafood restaurants in Boston. The chefs here allow you to make special requests on your seafood preferences and they have always done a very good job with what I have asked for. Really liked their take on Cape Cod Scallops recently, which I wanted to be broiled with garlic butter but didn't want the breadcrumbs. Voila, 'twas done, and done quite well, no pun intended. I had also ordered the Mixed baby greens salad, which has a humble name, but was actually a masterful rendition of this mainstay of current salads. Fresh and properly proportioned, and with exactly the right amount of dressing. Loved it, actually. Came in a deep, medium bowl, and I could have had another one. The bread bowl had a very generous piece of freshly baked bread, with a fine crust and soft texture, and came with a tiny plate of square butter at just the right temperature for spreading. There were also two small blueberry mini-muffins, like a pre-desert almost, in the basked which I finished quickly. They appeared to be made with a whole wheat based flower, but don't quote me on that. The scallops came with a second side so I chose asparagus. Again, cooked just right, not too soft, not too crunchy. Great atmosphere and a very lively staff, seemed like they all wanted to be there and showed some enthusiasm in their work, and some appeared to have been there for more than a little while. Great place for a solid lunch or dinner. Love the dark hardwoods and the heavy, solid seats and finishing. The desert was an incredible peppermint and chocolate cookie (similar to oreo, but much better in quality) mini pie with a chocolate crust and real peppermint bits, with a side of very fresh whipped cream that appeared to be spooned and made by hand. Portions were so-so, but value was decent. Portions are probably the main reason I did not give them 5 stars. Service was very, very good. It was a very good experience and I look forward to going back another time. read more

We had another nice meal at Atlantic Fish. I was disappointed that our request for a booth was not honored, and there was no mention of my husband's birthday, also noted in the reservation. That said the service and the food were excellent. We shared the scallop-wrapped bacon app, I had the mixed green salad topped with scallops and hubby had the shrimp scampi. Everything was great and the meal was well-paced by our server. The room is beautiful. read more

What might have been a quick lunch turned into a delightful celebration at the Atlantic Fish Company this afternoon. One of the best places to eat in Boston. Everything I got here was insanely good starting with warm crusty bread and finishing with desserts and drinks. I love scallops wrapped in bacon, oysters, fish and chips, tuna tartare and they have the best fried goat cheese salad. Sucks this happened, but hosts shouldn't really do this: we put our name down and for approximately an 1.5 hour wait. So we waited, got a text after an hour saying our table was ready. Got over there within 10 minutes and was told that they were clearing some tables inside. After waiting for another 15 mins, they told us they only have a table outside available and it was the driest table with a heater. After we sat down it started to rain again. My face was all wet sitting there and it was miserably cold. We asked if we could move inside and they told us that we'd have to wait another hour and a half. Understand weather situations are unpredictable but you can't sit people outside on an rainy day after they have waited patiently for a table (preferable inside, but no one told us it was going to be outside.) If they don't have anything available, they should've just let us know, so we could go somewhere else. I hate to post anything negative but just wasn't a great experience with them. We left and apologized to the waitress for a tricky situation. read more

In the half century I have been eating at restaurants, this is the first time I have seen green mold on a sandwich prepared and served at a restaurant. My son ordered the Tuscan Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup. He enjoyed the first couple of bites until he noticed the green mold on the bread. We had the waiter take it back to the kitchen where the mold was confirmed. He offered to bring a different entree - but after seeing the mold on his sandwich, everyone lost their appetite. The manager also offered my son a new entree, which he turned down. The manager comped all the food and apologized. He said they bake all their bread in house and wasn't sure how this could happen. I was excited to eat here but was very disappointed. Service was great, complete with rich Boston accents! Calamari was decent and the clam chowder was a solid B. However, 3 people in our party of 8 ordered halibut (1-blackened; 2-pan seared) and it was UNBELIEVABLY dry and tasteless. Way over cooked! I have actually never had bad halibut and it's one of my favorites to cook, but none of us finished it. No salt. No butter. No nothing! The brussle sprouts were the best thing on my plate. I ate all of them! For this to be somewhat of a Boston institution, I was greatly underwhelmed and won't be back. read more

I am shocked such a "high end" restaurant can stay in business in boston and somehow serve such sub-par seafood dishes. I reserved six seats on Open Table for a birthday celebration, which I noted in the comment section of the reservation. Upon arrival, a non-hostess seated our party. The party was seated at a five-person table. Instead of moving us to another table, a sixth seat was squeezed in. The table ordered: cod x 2, blackened; new england clam chowder; mixed baby green salad; maine lobster roll; seafood fra diavolo; scallop/shrimp risotto; linguine + clams. When we asked the waiter for his recommendations, when debating between two options, he always recommended the more expensive dish. I can comment on on the cod and the maine lobster roll. The cod was hammered beyond belief. There was no blackened flavor; it burned and charred rather than blackened. The sides included asparagus and potatoes. The asparagus was wilted and the potatoes were over salted. The lobster roll was average; the fries served with the roll were good. The bill totaled greater than $250; this did not include the tip nor did anyone order dessert. With such a high total, I'd expect at least a free birthday dessert for the birthday party. Nope. After the press from the Boston Globe and the other reviews of this restaurant, I was very reluctant to dine here. But unfortunately, it was a location requested by the birthday girls in our party. read more
