I was here with two friends and we shared three entrees. The turkish eggs, ancient grains porridge and torrija french toast were all sO good and beautifully presented. We were given the background on the dishes as well as the ingredients which were thoughtfully and creatively selected and put together. We all loved the vitaliy tonics as well. Mine was delicious, beautiful and had ingredients intended to help with immunity.. perfect for me as I'm just getting over a cold. Brunch is in many ways a profitable and an odd meal. On one hand, chef community often sees it as a joke when it comes to cooking. On the other hand, restaurant owners love it as it's an amazing profit maker of being able to sell eggs at the kind of upcharge that the chicken would get violent about if it only knew. And people, generally, love it. But, Atelier Manna and Chef Andrew erase all those preconceived notions. They make remarkably complicated, esthetically breathtaking brunch and breakfast creations that have every bit of complexity of a fine dining evening meal, and more. Yet, the one factor that stays true, is the love for brunch by the patrons. Turns out, the general population of the area may have a level of intelligence when it comes to great food and people caught on to the fact that this joint serves the best and impresses. Atelier Manna is nearly always in a state of a waiting list. The execution of French toast with crème de Chantilly is absolute perfection. The Turkish Eggs are the most popular dish for good reasons. The special of Japanese beef is remarkable. And then, there is the personal touch. Guests are invited to the kitchen area to close out their tabs, to see the magic happening and to absorb the atmosphere. I grew up in San Diego, so I have been coming to all of the restaurants in this small stretch of the 101 in Leucadia for decades, so I was extremely excited to hear that there was a new Michelin bib gourmand spot opening up by the chef who was at Campfire and Jeune et Jolie before. Both of those are some of my favorite restaurants in all of San Diego and I can say that this new breakfast spot mirrors a lot of their similar flavors. It's very close to Le Papagayo on the west side of the 101 in Encinitas. Parking is extremely easy, I prefer to park in the dirt lot across the street, which I have been doing since high school for all the restaurants in the area, or you can park on the actual 101 or on one of the side streets behind the restaurant. Inside is quite small, they have indoor and outdoor seating, but we were sat outside today, which was very nice because it was covered and there was a cool summer breeze. Our server was also very polite and everything that we ordered came out pretty fast. The menu itself is pretty small, but has a lot of unique items on it. Pricing is a little bit more expensive than traditional breakfast restaurants, but it is worth it. We had a big dinner planned that evening so I didn't want to fill up too much at breakfast so we both chose two of our favorite items to order. We started off with the Cold Brew, which was very nice and not too bitter and followed that up with the Turkish Eggs and the Breakfast Sandwich. The Turkish Eggs were fantastic, some of the best I've ever had. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the sauce inside was fabulous. I also chose to add steak, which was a bit expensive for $14 but it was cooked perfectly and had tremendous flavor. The Breakfast Sandwich came on an extremely fresh croissant and was probably one of the best croissant breakfast sandwiches that I've had in a very long time, if not ever. The portion sizes are not very large, but they are packed with flavor and I felt that it was the perfect amount of food. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in San Diego or to anyone visiting. From start to finish, our experience was nothing short of exceptional. The menu is thoughtful, creative, and beautifully executed. We started with the Turkish eggs--eggs perfectly poached, taste was balanced, rich. We definitely soaked up our bread with all of that yolk and spices on our plate. The pork ribs were outstanding, incredibly tender and elevated by this slightly sweet molé that made every bite melt in your mouth. For drinks, the Antigua tonic was a standout. I loved their clever touch of adding mint--not just for taste but as a sensory experience that made the drink feel extra refreshing. The cold brew is also a must-try, smooth, bold, and so good enjoyed black. Dessert was the ultimate finale: we devoured the pistachio bread pudding. The mascarpone added just the right savory, salty balance, while the lavender syrup gave it a unique, fragrant sweetness. Truly unforgettable. Good service and good food. My husband and I shared the Turkish Eggs and the Spanish French Toast. Our favorite was definitely the Turkish Eggs with the different textures and layers of flavors. The french toast was huge. I think it must be 8" wide and 4" tall. We brought half of it home. As Asians, we don't like things too sweet and the french toast didn't seem too sweet as t first but as the cream on top melted and absorbed into the toast, it got a bit too sweet for us. We'd been meaning to check this place out for months and finally got around to it. There was about an hour-long wait before we were seated. Once we sat down, the staff let us know they had already run out of several menu items, including a few we were really hoping to try, which was a bit disappointing. We ended up ordering the pork short ribs and the Lady Edison ham & burrata plates. Unfortunately, they were out of the ham as well, so we added a side of steak instead. The burrata dish was delicious, but the pork short ribs--prepared in an Asian (possibly Chinese) style--were just okay. We ordered the guava panna cotta desert (with guava boba pearls) to share and it was amazing! We also tried the Antigua and the cold brew for drinks, but they felt overpriced for what they were. That said, the service was excellent: attentive and friendly throughout. Overall, it's a fun spot to try when you're in the mood for something new and upscale (it is Michelin-recommended, after all). It doesn't have a lot of seating (and it's all outdoors) and can get really busy on the weekend, so it's best to try to make time to go on a weekday. Staff is also great and very friendly and accommodating/transparent with any dietary restrictions. The menu is short, but each dish is above and beyond. That said, it is a tough menu for folks that can't have dairy, but they do seem to change out some items on it fairly often. I'm sad when a delicious spot falls off after a year. We dined here a year ago when it was new. Food, service & vibes were excellent. Couldn't wait to return. Today we came for lunch. We were seated right away in an awkward two top in the middle of the patio that was too close to the table next to us. We could hear their entire conversation. Studied menu and after initially pouring water, no one came for 10 minutes. We finally flagged hostess and she took our order. We were told they were out of a couple of things an hour to closing time. What we had: Saguaro tonic - delicious and cool presentation. This was best thing we had. Hamachi crudo - delicious & fresh but nothing "atelier" about it Manna "bowl" - this was NOT a bowl. This was a big green salad. Communication is key. Their menu said farro, quinoa with veggies. Yeah call it what it is. And it came bare so server had to replace it. We got it with a side of shrimp. First item crudo arrived but drinks never came. Bowl came and it looked like all green leaves. Was so annoyed. We all know what bowls are. Come on. This was a green farmers market salad. Not a bowl. Overall, the $100 lunch was not worth it. Service was "asleep at the wheel". Very Underwhelming. Visited Atelier Manna in Encinitas after seeing it listed in the Michelin Recommended Guide, but sadly, the experience was a big letdown. The staff was inattentive, and the service felt disconnected and slow from the moment we arrived. The food was very mediocre. We sat in a patio area, which was honestly the biggest disappointment. It was dirty, cluttered, and poorly maintained -- with trash, leaves, and random utility items and storage bins all around It felt more like a back alley than a dining space. The prices were also very high for what you get. Neither the food nor the atmosphere justified the cost. If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I certainly would. At first I was hesitant to go because of their small menu that really didn't sound too exciting to me. Well, once I received my food, I changed my mind with the first bite!! Everything I tasted was absolutely delicious! All ingredients are so fresh and put together with such care. The Turkish eggs looked delicious but didn't try them this time! The kitchen is right there and open so it's cool to see them making their creations if you visit the inside (there's only the cashier and restroom no inside seating). The weekend definitely gets busy as they only have a handful of tables plus an overflow but their online waitlist is a great tool, it doesn't say how long the wait will take (just how many people are ahead of you) so if you're driving from further away I'd suggest planning on getting on the list about the time of the drive for a small party of two. Came here on a Thursday and it wasn't very busy at all. Perfect day of the week to avoid long waits and crowds. I noted on the waitlist that we were bringing a small dog and they probably sat us at the worst possible table with very little space to have our dog lay down haha. But we managed to make it work. Anyway, aside from that food was great and service friendly. It took a little time for the food to come out initially but after the first dish came they seemed to all come out rather quickly. Had the terrine (super meaty and hearty - husband loved this one), Turkish eggs (this was my favorite - love runny eggs), pork belly congee (like a comfort food) and the panna cotta (a light and not super sweet ending to the meal). Atelier Manna just earned its Michelin Bib Gourmand designation in 2025. It is a small restaurant in Encinitas which is a little hard to find...but if you know, you know. There is small lettering "manna" in the front of the white building next to its covered patio. The restaurant consists of intimate seatings in covered patio and a small kitchen which you can walk through on way to the restroom. It is only open for breakfast/ brunch, 9am -2pm (closed Monday and Tuesday). Reservation highly recommended. We ordered the mocktail called "Maroon" which was very pomegranate-forward with cinnamon but tasty. Two of us had the Turkish eggs (one ordered poached eggs and the other ordered scrambled but arrived like a mini folded omelette). The Turkish eggs came with a delicious herb yogurt sauce with chili oil and "torn herbs" like parsley and dill and side of rustic sliced bread to drag through the sauce. Another ordered the hamachi crudo which looked very refreshing on a hot day. We also shared the greek yogurt panna cotta which was topped with pink tapioca, berries and mini flowers. Service was prompt and helpful with menu recommendations. It is amazing all this good food was produced out of such a small tight kitchen. Only negative was the number of flies, which wasn't the restaurant's fault (since it had several fans), but nevertheless detracted from the overall brunch experience. It's not often that I get the opportunity to rave about a spot, but Atelier Manna definitely fits into the "rave" category. There are plenty of very good restaurants in the San Diego area, but few reach the level of the two food meccas in the US, San Francisco and New York. This small eatery fits the bill. Those familiar with chef Andrew Bachelier know that his restaurants and offerings are ambitious. Jeune et Jolie (the closest thing you'll ever get to being in a Lyonnaise bistro, ca. 1975) and Campfire were his two Carlsbad creations and are still going strong. I have reviewed J&J elsewhere and you can read my thoughts about that eatery while Bachelier still ran it. But AM is a much smaller affair: indeed, the kitchen is smaller than mine and the seating permits only forty or so patrons at any one time. There are no reservations per se; you join a waiting list that can grow quite long on the weekends. This means fairly intimate, close quarters dining. This also means that wait staffing, while friendly and accommodating, can be a bit frenetic. If none of this appeals, then this cafe may not appeal to you. If you don't mind these conditions (and I do not), the payoff comes in spectacularly and carefully prepared dishes. The menu offers limited, one-off creations, and the dishes change regularly. Chef makes these beautiful creations not only sourcing local, in season ingredients, but also displaying an extremely broad and commanding culinary reach. Flavors and forms include mixing Japanese, Korean, Indochinese, Tamil, Eastern Mediterranean, Italian, Spanish and French cuisines. Normally, I am a bit leery of too much fusion, but these are some of the most inventive and flavorful dishes I have eaten in a long time. The pork congee is a personal favorite; my wife is extraordinarily fond of the çılbır (Turkish poached eggs) with hangar steak added (which comes at an additional cost). But every one of the nine or ten dishes are worth trying. AM also offers a number of original "vitality" tonics: non-alcoholic beverages mixing several and sometimes quite disparate flavors. So far, I have tried only the Oxblood and the Durango (the latter--mixing coffee, granny smith apple, and Mexican marigold--was the better). While they are for the most part not something I would normally drink, they display the same originality and artistry as the food. There are some desiderata. I find their coffee good, but a bit too much fruit for my tastes. Some wine and hard cider pairings I think would go quite well with the menu, which may soon be available should they get their liquor license. Lastly, while the food comes out fairly quickly, it is not always well-coordinated. As the waiters inform guests, "the dishes come out one at a time." It is an extremely small operation, so I understood, but the wait between individual dishes can be sporadic. Still, these are all minor quibbles and I think this small cafe is Bachelier's best creation to date. "Atelier" (an artist's workshop) seems to have become very in fashion for eateries in the US and Europe to include in their names. I have even eaten at several. But Atelier Manna is the only one worthy of the appellation. Kudos. read more
