That customer was sitting at the only table with a C type charging cord. I was going to at least buy a charging cord and plug, but I found the whole experience so distasteful I just left. Decided to come back today to try a final time and this sign is in the window at 4 while the employee shuffles around the store during peak business hours. This location needs better management and more staff. You can't expect one individual to flip the store and handle customers at same time and you're losing business by forcing store to close in order to do one or the other. I went to get a new phone, presented my old phone, and asked if I could do a trade in since the store was offering $1000 towards new phones during Earth month. An employee told me I could, and I asked what the newest phone was that the $1000 for my current phone, which I had on the table between us, would cover. He told me it would cover the iPhone 16. Sells me the phone, which I am understanding would ultimately be free with the $1000 credit. I come back a few days later with the exact same phone to trade in, and a different employee (much nicer and more knowledgeable!) tells me the phone is a mini and thus not eligible for the $1000, which the previous employee told me it was. It's worth $350. The first person that helped me either lied to me or was so incompetent he didn't know how much the phone was worth, and now I'm stuck with a nearly $500 cost I'm not prepared for. I have never been so frazzled. We went here to get a new phone. The person assisting us reassured us that we would get discounts on a new plan, that the plan would be better than our current plan, that we'd get some sort of cool service for one phone, and get the phone we wanted at a discount. THREE HOURS LATER we left with the plan we wanted at a HIGHER PRICE than what he had even initially quoted us, no cool service, and the phone we wanted without the discount. He wasted inordinate amounts of time talking to our child instead of helping us. He did not know how anything worked. He was unable to pull up any of our prior billing information to show us a comparison. He made promises of the moon and stars, gave us his email address and promised it would all work out. He never responded to emails despite assuring us that he was very obsessive about doing so. We had to go back to the store and waste even more time on a different day - but the store was closing early so we couldn't get things addressed then either! None of this would have happened if the first person has been competent in any way. I was having a lot of trouble with my T-Mobile service provider and decided to switch to AT + T. It was a long and arduous journey that I could not have made without David. It took 3 days and David guided and assisted me through the entire process. he must have spent 6 hours, over 2 days, on the phone with T-Mobile trying to get the information we needed. He was calm, kind and very compassionate. I recommend working with him! read more

This review is for their Chicago Avenue store in Evanston, IL. Two stars (instead of one) just so this doesn't get buried by Yelp's algorithms. If you're served by a guy named "Greg" (30-ish w/thick-rimmed glasses and lots of forearm tattoos), consider leaving instead of dealing with his "I-hate-my-job-so-I'll-punish-customers" hostile attitude. That attitude made the entire interaction uncomfortably awkward, regrettable, and embarrassing. I got a good dose of this when I went in this store 30 min or so before closing needing to upgrade my account -- I had a lower-tier data plan capped at 6 GB/mo, so I wanted to upgrade to an unlimited family plan. Yes, that's right - I went there expecting to spend more money with ATT. Curiously, nobody greeted or welcomed me; it was confusing. I walked all the way to the back and eventually found a guy sitting at the high-top round table really absorbed in his phone. I was hoping he was an ATT employee but not sure since he didn't even look up. I walked up to him curiously and asked the person if they worked there. Yes, he did, and this was Greg. He somewhat begrudgingly got up and asked what I needed and then asked for ID... felt like I was 15 trying to get into a nightclub. He didn't reach out to take my ID, so to keep things moving, I slid it across the table to him. He gruffly said something to the effect of "You will not disrespect me. You will leave the store now." OK -- no problem.. glad that's over! Although it is a hassle to change providers -- this prompted me to look into other options - glad I did! I have since switched over to T-Mobile and gotten an extra line with unlimited data for all lines, including free Netflix - for significantly less than ATT was charging... My monthly bill went from $174 for three lines with a total of 6GB data with ATT to 4 lines of shared unlimited data with Netflix for $152 (and better reliability). So, while the store experience was unpleasant - I am genuinely grateful to ATT for giving me encouragement to switch to their competitor; I would never have thought to do this if not for Greg's customer service (in)abilities. I am surprised ATT doesn't invest more in its customer service training program. The attitude and service I experienced from the employee at this store might be expected from a young disgruntled fast-food restaurant worker at their first job with minimal self-awareness or empathy or customer-service training. This was easily the worst customer service experience I've encountered in a long time. read more

The worst experience ever! Upgraded phones and then spent hours reviewing "promotional " plan. Salesperson went over a bunch of calculations which obfuscated the real cost of the plan. We were never told we could keep our old plan and it would be cheaper. Luckily our daughter was in town to assist. Returned to store and obfuscation continued. Daughter spent hours calling customer service while in store and was finally able to get us back to old plan. Lesson is just buy your phone directly from Apple or whatever phone manufacturer you use so you don't need to deal with sales of a new plan. read more

They somehow managed to mess up my installment plan and that has completely jacked up my account with ATT. I was just 2 minutes shy of arriving after the store had closed and the door was locked, however the lights were still on and there were about 2 customers they were currently tending to. Despite my disappointment (and yes it was 7:02 pm), i figured there was still hope, and I could just ask a quick question. I didn't want to take up too much of their time anyway (I know it was a long day for them and just like any employee who has worked a full days work, all you would want to do is just go home as soon as you can...I get that.) But the fact of the matter is POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I would hope that after waiting a certain amount of time, eventually someone would have ACKNOWLEDGED and noticed that i was there. 5 minutes passed..... I'm still waiting. Even the customers inside recognized that i was there but at that time, not a single sales rep managed to come to the door. I even signaled to one of the guys behind the counter that i just had a quick question to ask, but they blatantly ignored me and carried on..... It was like i was never even there!!!!! I was LIVID.... My one question is: "How does a large wireless carrier such as AT&T hire staff to treat their customers like this?" Isin't teaching good customer service part of any corporate protocol for new and existing hires? There were two men i could visibly see behind the counter, (I couldn't tell if they were middle eastern or indian but they were very rude). They knew I was standing there the whole time. They even looked up and saw me. They just laughed, ignored me, and carried on with their client in the hopes that I would just walk away. After nearly 20 minutes, standing out in the cold (and mind you, still at their doorstep) someone else finally opened the door and said, "May I help you?" OMG. That was all i wanted. I just wanted someone to acknowledge me and answer a quick question regarding the presale of their new Iphone 6S. Nothing more.... I was in and out of there in less than a minute with the help of this one gentleman. Even after i had left, the customers in the store were still there!!! All i had was one damn question and yet their staff couldn't find the time to pause and answer a single inquiry??? SERIOUSLY??? Fn A!!!!! I only wished i was able to get the name of the man that actually helped and answered my question, so i could at least give him credit and kudos for good customer service. All i could remember was that he had thick black framed glasses on. To that man, you get 5 stars. Agent in the store was unwelcoming and off putting, seemingly annoyed and feeling imposed upon because I had an iPad shipped directly from ATT to their local store while I was visiting from out of town. I had upgraded my device online through the ATT website, but would not be at my home address to receive the package. The online agent arranged to have it shipped to the local store in Evanston, Illinois near Chicago where I was visiting my daughter. This local store did not carry the device in stock and therefore it needed to be special ordered. There was literally eye rolling when I walked in through the door and the agent said they would have appreciated a call letting them know ai had arranged to have my device shipped to the store because "they never do this". She also said they had no way of calling me to let me know the device had arrived -hello??? Aren't you the wireless cellphone company that has serviced my account since 2003??? SMH!! read more

Not worth the time or money I had the displeasure of working with Jin Lee and Kaylah Johnson for a wired to wireless business transition. Inaccurate service pitch. The proposal didnt match what we are being billed. Ordered new service in Feb 2018, and STILL dealing with incorrect bills and no one to rectify this. Absolutely miserable follow through and sheer lack of accountability. I will be cancelling my ATT service and going elsewhere. Do NOT use their business services. They promise the world and deliver none of it. These individuals may be nice people but the policies at ATT are predatory and do not follow the guidelines of fair billing. This review is for At&T, not the store. I have been a customer of At&T for many years and had a bundle package of internet and wireless. We are moving out of state and I tried to depart my daughter's cell phone line from our package so she could have her own account. For one month and eight phone calls I have tried to accomplish this task, but to no avail. Yesterday I received two emails that my internet account had been cancelled. Two hours later, I got my service back in place, but my daughter's phone line is still attached to ours. The internet and cable are one division and the wireless another. The two divisions don't communicate. There are no supervisors as everyone works remotely. There is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE at all! I would have cancelled our service, but my daughter needs her phone for work. read more

I had a great experience here with on Sunday. 2 days before my phone had been incorrectly set up at a different At&t store. I tried calling 611 and the operator listed all the reasons that my phone wasn't working because of my past carrier. Greg quickly was able to figure out that my phone hadn't been set up correctly at a different store. He found the problem and solved it within a matter of minutes. He also installed a glass protector on my screen for me. I would give him more than 5 stars if I could. read more

The actual cost is hundreds more than we were told but we can't get our money back. AT&T corporate said the store salesperson "lacked information" but the truth is he lied to make the sale. After a week of battling with apple over a locked Apple ID, I bit the bullet and decided to just buy a new phone. James was by far the greatest sales associate I've ever dealt with. He treated me like a person not a paycheck. James was honest about differences between phones and his advice seemed genuine. It felt more like a friend was recommending the smartest, more effective way to resolve my problem. I'm an indecisive person and it drives everyone crazy. I probably stopped him and asked to go in a different direction about 6 times and he was patient and accommodating. I could go on forever, the bottom line is I went in angry and ready to throw a tantrum but left more satisfied than I could ever imagine. I spent about 2 hours there and I was so relaxed and having such a good time it felt like 10 minutes. I never felt rushed or pressured to buy anything. James is a rockstar and I am so grateful I had the privilege to receive his advice and service. read more

Do yourself a favor and don't go here! I have had repeatedly bad experiences at this store. Here are two examples: 1) I went in with my mom and brother to buy a package of screen covers for my phone. I asked the gentleman behind the counter to help me by putting one of them on my phone after I paid for it. He said, '"These things are really shitty."' Way to sell your product, dude. So he took the covers to the back and put one on. He came out to give me my phone back with the cover on it. The man forgot the package I purchased with the rest of the covers in the back. He looked for the package and couldn't find it. When I asked the girl at the front register for a refund on the covers that the employee misplaced, she told me that she didn't know how to give me a refund. I then asked for her manager and who gave me a refund and then told me, '"Just don't ask for us to help you put the screen covers on your phone again, because we won't do it."' Seriously?!! 2) The second scenario in which I received bad customer service here was when I went in to ask one of the managers to waive a $50 Mover's Fee associated with switching my home phone to a new address. The manager told me that he had removed the fee. Several days later, my home phone was disconnected. I called AT&T to see what had happened and was told that I didn't pay my Mover's Fee, so they had suspended my service. So I went back to the AT&T store to ask the manager what had happened and he said, '"Oops, my bad. I didn't really have the authority to remove that fee. There's really nothing else I can do for you."' The employees' motto at this store is: "We just want to sell you stuff. But please don't ask us for help. We're not that into you.." I ended up calling the AT&T customer service hotline about the situation, and they were really helpful and understanding. The fee was removed and my service was restored. read more

So, this is a review for AT&T Internet service...just in case you're considering a choice between AT&T, Clear, and RCN (the three companies I've dealt with thus far). I should say that I live in northside Chicago, so this might not be the same in Evanston, but I'm guessing it is. I also posted the same info for my RCN & Clear reviews: I tried Clear so I could get rid of my RCN service that I had for two years at $40/mo for just Internet service (which is overpriced, imho). RCN overcharged me month after month in excess of the $40 through autopay even though I told them to stop (total approx $230), hence the attempt to switch to Clear. But, Clear didn't work either. They just couldn't get their act together...and it turns out there's a cheaper alternative: Just as an fyi to those looking for Internet service....I decided to go with AT&T. They have a new customer promotion of $19.95/month for 12 months, and then $40/mo after that for their highest speed (even though their website says it's normally $45). You do have to buy the modem ($75 for just the modem, $100 for a modem/wifi router combo), but then you can take that with you if you move and continue their service in your new location...but, if I'm spending $20 less per month, the modem will pay for itself in about 4 months. And I'll save $160 over the course of the year. That almost kind of makes up for RCN! How nice! :) Also requires that you have a phone jack, but you don't need home phone service. On their site (http://www.att.com/gen/general?pid=11523) it says "for more info call 1-800-821-1245 Monday through Friday 8 am to 9 pm, or Saturday 8 am to 4 pm Central." It was very easy for me to get through to someone; he actually picked up the phone! p.s. I'm a grad student & don't work for AT&T. Just wanted to give you guys what I've learned through this (annoying) process. read more

I had to go to ANOTHER AT&T Corporate store to finalize a sale, find out everything I was initially told was wrong -this review is on the Chicago Ave store in EVANSTON. * First, I only went to see what plans were available as my current plan's discount would expire in July. I was lead to believe that by buying iPhone, I'd save $50- $80 per month... WRONG. This is not the only plan, I now have Uverse, a different phone, higher internet speed for $10 more per month. The internet is free. * Free HBO? I don't watch it, but I'd have to pay for 3 months of HBO then wait for a credit. That's what they call FREE. * I was there 8 hrs, spent $10 in meter fees. * I had to pay $90 in restocking fees, to get tid of that phone. * Half that time the woman was talking or texting, even showing me pictures just sent to her phone. * She said there are no ads on iPhones; that night I found THAT was a crock. * She said Art programs were available FRee, at Apple store. I found none free, all required subscriptions and extra fees for tools to use those apps. I guess she thinks art programs mean adult coloring books. * She mentioned that I'd not only save money taking DIRECT TV NOW, but could cancel - neglecting to say that AT&T has no Human Support yet for Direct TV NOW. THIS LIST IS LONGER, but I'm sick of telling the story as it still hasn't been resolved; I've been going to AT&T, calling them almost daily for 2 weeks to adjust changes she made to my account, had NO WIFI for 6 days... a fiasco, to say the least. The manager said he would waive installation fees since I (stupidly) left Verizon having my number ported to AT&T, but this can't happen until I get the first bill. **I SUGGEST GOING TO ANY other CORPORATE AT&T. My daughter visited this store yesterday with a small iPhone problem that was easily resolved. However, the female associate was rude and condescending to her. While high functioning, my daughter has a very obvious developmental disability. Way to go with diversity training, AT&T, NOT! Went in to upgrade my iPhone. Two employees were signing up customers in the area where the iPhones were so I couldn't even see what they had available. After standing around waiting for them to finish (they obviously did not care that they were blocking me from looking at the new phones) eventually someone came up and asked me if I needed help. I told them I wanted to upgrade my iPhone. What happened after that really baffled me. I tried explaining to him what I wanted and he just kept on trying to get me to by a non-Apple phone. I knew I just wanted a new iPhone. After he finally conceded to that, the first thing he did was try to get me to upgrade my iCloud account so I would have the necessary amount of space to back up my entire phone to the cloud. He takes my phone and navigates to the iCloud page and tries to get me to upgrade. I told him I did not want to do that and I didn't care about transferring anything over except my contacts. So, he grabs my phone and starts going into settings and messing with my iCloud settings, presumably trying to turn off all the backups so I had enough space to store my contacts or something. At that point, I was pretty disgusted, I took my phone and left to go to another AT&T store nearby. To be continued... Oh, and I found that all you have to do to update the new phone is put it next to the old one while starting up. I didn't need to do any of that iCloud bullsh*t. read more

Charlie immediately asked me how he could help, diagnosed the phone's problem, and had me on my way in 10 minutes. The service is certainly quick and friendly, but yesterday I was pitched the AT&T Next plan as though it would save me a TON of money over the long haul. It wasn't until I asked enough questions to really understand what was being said that I came to understand that the Next plan is really a total ripoff, in my personal opinion. It wouldn't have saved me any money and I would have ended up paying the full price for a new phone (at a ridiculous rate) in installments. Had I not read up about the Next Plan before going in, I might have been suckered into signing up for it by AT&T's deliberately deceptive chart, which does not compare apples to apples. I would have appreciated more honesty and integrity from the salesperson rather than someone just trying to squeeze more money out of me, but what can you expect from a corporate giant? read more

Worst customer service I have ever encountered. Looks like we may be leaving AT&T finally. We went in to see if we can use my husband's phone upgrade coming up in September early because he broke his phone only to find out that his upgrade has been pushed back to December with no notification of any kind. The girl who helped us, Amanda (we think), looked at us condescendingly when we asked what our options are. We asked to speak with a manager who then sat and said there is absolutely nothing he can do to help us out, just that their policy had suddenly changed. If they had told us we couldn't use the upgrade until September, we would've totally been fine, but to keep pushing it back like they have been (first it was July; in July, it was September and now it's December), it is unacceptable. They also didn't seem like they wanted to help in any way which just tells me that this store does not value their customers at all. We have been with AT&T for a long time and are really happy with their service until we met the employees of this store! read more

I arranged my internet subscription at this store. The salesman was helpful, and was willing to waive the 100 USD installation fee for me - the only trouble was that he wasn't able to do it upfront. They promised me that they will add the amount to my balance, but even after 3 store visits, talking to 3 different people (incl. the manager), nothing happened. Everyone keeps saying that they need their boss to approve it, but nothing moved ahead in the last month. Wouldn't deal with them again. read more

Save yourself hassle and go online or call the 800 number. Walked in and told them what I wanted to do: get a phone for my son. He asked me for my phone number and I said "mine?" He said "the number of the account." I said, "I need to give you my wife's." So, we are fourth on the list to be helped and he tells us it will be 15 to 20 minutes. It was 40 minutes because people kept walking in and they kept helping them first. They helped an NU student buy a no contract phone. They helped a guy fix one of his settings. The even spent 5 minutes explaining the difference between two phones to the person on the list behind me (I know this because he told her 'make your decision and then someone will ring it up since you are second on the list)! We tell him what phone we want, he asks for my ID and tells me I cannot buy the phone because the account is in my wife's name. I tell him she can stop in to verify the account but cannot stay in the store very long because she is at work. Nope, "she needs to be here for the whole transaction" which will take 10 to 15 minutes. When I told him that was crazy he says it is "An FCC rule." Given we can't leave ATT without paying a ton, I went online and got it done in 7 minutes online. I really wish we could leave ATT... read more

Lousy. I was standing out in the rain at 9:58 and an employee passed me by to unlock and said "we have a few more minutes." and LEFT me out there. Why not invite me in to wait? This was my second visit to get an old phone reactivated (current phone broken). They changed the SIM card and sent me on my way. Wrong. According to my ongoing one- hour conversation with At&T once I got home, there were many things they failed to do: Reenter the IME (EIM??) number, do something to voicemail, and a third thing I didn't understand. And I STILL can't get my voicemail. Argh. read more
