Popular was the second stop I made while searching for a deal on mobile phones (GSM) for use abroad and power converters. Here we found better deals off the bat. This is good when it comes time to negotiate a better price; or how Indians like to call it.. a "nice" price. If you Google GSM phone, depending on the wording, Popular electronics website is in the first twenty results. Fairly small store packed with tons of stuff like electronics, housewares and luggage. Almost anywhere on Devon ave in stores like these a person can get decent luggage for as low as $20 for a carryon to $30 for a larger clothing carrier. I've purchased luggage from here before and gotten good use from it. I know that this store and the electronics store next door is a good place to start your search for a multi region DVD player. That is it plays NTSC and Pal DVDs. Here I was able to find color display GSM phones for as low as $40 and the cheapest color phone with camera was a RAZR for around $70. The store attendant was a bit more helpful with trying to figure out the right wattage of converter to sell us, in comparison to the first place we visited. This store and the one next door are almost completely alike and for a time owned by the same owners or owners that were somewhat related. Okay so if i can give a negative 0.100 stars for this place, i would! So i just was googling through the web, searching for a cheap mobile phone and i found that place. The price seemed to be very cheap that was what caught my attention. So i decided to purchase from this place and they didn't send my phone til a week later after i bought it. And the problem was that they shipped it to the wrong address so i was trying to contact them to change the address or re-ship it to me and i WILL pay for the shipping&handling fees. When i called them, the customer service was incredibly RUDE! and they told me that they cannot do anything about it but to charge me 25% of the total cost which was 600 bucks and 20 dollars for the shipping fee. But WHO would wanna waste 25% of the 600dollars just to tell them to reship the item! So when i called them again because the package was sent to Texas and im in California so i really didn't know what to do. I had to contact UPS myself and deal with the whole situation! Anyway, I would NEVER ever buy anything from that place ever again!!! If they're reading this; You guys suckass bigtime and need to get an attitude check while dealing with customers!! Maybe they are good in person but don't order online from them. I placed an order Sunday, they didn't process my order on Monday so I left an e-mail nobody replied to me and it was already afternoon so I called in (Tuesday). Someone told me they would process it which they did but there was some mix up with shipping involving the address so my money had to be refunded....since it's now Tuesday I have to wait 3 more days til Friday to get my money back which means the very soonest I could get my phone is next week....really not happy, I am losing money....time is money. read more

Came here to find a voltage converter for my wife's hair dryer (she's from the UK). They sorted me out in less than 2 minutes. Had several options to choose from, we plugged it in and it worked. Absolutely horrible customer service! I ordered a product online and never received a tracking number. I emailed and called to find out when I could expect the delivery. The product was delivered a couple weeks later, but it THEN IT BROKE after a week and a half of use. Just like the last time I tried contact them, I'm having absolutely no luck this time. Popular Electronics customer service IS very poor. Bought a very expensive unlocked Droid Razr that died due to a well documented HW problem. Reported the problem to Popular and they never even returned my call. If you are thinking of buying from Popular Electronics, please reconsider. Don't ever buy from these people. Reading everyone else's review I see they scammed me the same way. I ordered a cell phone, it was never shipped. They said I refused the package when it came, but it never came to me. Why would I refuse the package when I was waiting for it?? Took forever to get my refund and was charged for shipping that I never had. They sent me a bogus waybill, this shipment didn't even have my name on it. It was shipped to Florida, and I live in Canada, it never crossed the border. I called UPS and they had nothing coming to me. I spent countless hours on the phone trying to track a bogus package. They are conartists to say the least. I never received any paperwork for the purchase or refund. I was searching for a Sony Ericsson TXT Pro unlocked cell phone and ran across this place on the web. On one of my visits to Chicago in October 2012 I stopped at this location to check it out along with a couple of other locations in that area. I ended up buying the phone from them. After returning home I tried to set it up and use and had issues with the phone. Sent it into Sony Ericsson/Sony Mobile to get repaired and still had issues. Sony was going to replace it, but needed to a printed receipt with specific information. I contacted Popular Electronics to get this via phone and e-mail to everyone I could find an e-mail for and got no response after a month and a half. They were on holiday during part of that time and I allowed for that and still got no response on the printed receipt. I had to resort to other means to resolve replacement of phone with Sony Ericsson/Sony Mobile which finally didn't get resolved until April 2013. If you take the chance of purchasing a cell phone from this or any location in that area please insist on testing the phone extensively and get a printed receipt with the IMEI# on it to cover yourself with the manufacturer for warranty purposes. read more
