    Parihuela (24.99) Peru Seafood soup
    Victor G.

Asu Mare Peruvian Restaurant opened where Nick's Pizza was. New decor on walls. Just a few tables inside. Outside Parklet no longer used. Offerings (Peru): breakfast, drinks, meats, chicken, fish, seafood, soups, appetizers, pastries. Tried to ask server questions re: menu. She couldn't reply in English. Ordered. Food came 21 minutes later. Only 1 patron... Slurps: Parihuela (24.99) Peru Seafood soup. -served with roasted corn nuts, lime squeeze on side. -broth tasted of various spices (garlic, salt, pepper, chilies, oregano) premade soup stock, tomatos. -lotsa thick fish fillets, probably basa, not sea bass. -broth had faint seafood notes. Clams, mussels, squid, octopus all chewy, bland. Tiny deveined shrimp crunchy, flava minimal. Potatos too. -1 check in? 3ish stars. Not worthy, quantity: minimal, quality: below average. If repeat, would skip seafood, fish.

Gracias, gracias, gracias Wow! The food is incredible! I wanted everything on their menu. Right off the bat the owner mentioned that they did not have a couple things listed, but I appreciated that since it gave me guidance on what to order. The food makes you feel like the comfort food back at home. They opened several months ago, but as always a new restaurant is always working out its kinks at the beginning. The restaurant is not too far from me which makes it more convenient. Parking was also not terrible (street parking). The space inside is a bid oddly shape with the ramp and tables... but I'm sure at some point this will work out too. One thing that did annoy me a bit is I asked for our drinks like 20 minutes in, and they took awhile to bring it. But otherwise, everything was food. Can't wait till they are on uber eats or doordash.

It's my friend's birthday and she wanted to eat authentic Peruvian nearby and we decided to come here for first time. This place is a "hole in a wall" Peruvian restaurant with only 4 or 5 tables inside (they have outside seating too). Street parking is limited, better if you cone in early so you can get a good spot in parking. We ordered 3 kinds on the menu, a fish ceviche (spicy) so good!; Arroz Chaufa (we prefer beef /add on extra $2) and lastly, the chicharon de Pescado (fish crackling). For the drinks i ordered Inca cola. It's great for all the food. (try it!) Presentation of the food is superb! It's appetizing! We finished our plate no leftover. I commend the chef! We've had a blast!! We love it. I might cone back again! Thank you management for the heartfelt welcome! Especially the fiod!

Dinner time.... Peruvian style. Hands down, one of the best restaurants I've eaten in the Bay Area. It rivals any place in San Francisco and I don't have to pay a bridge toll or spend an hour trying to find a parking spot. I highly recommend their ceviche and tallarines. 5

Good Peruvian food with authentic flavors. Asu Mare is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood and just five blocks from La Peña, Berkeley's Latinx cultural mecca. I had Loma Saltado for $25 and it was delicious. This is homestyle cooking. Unassuming, just a nice, clean restaurant heavy on Peruvian vibes. I love the brightly-colored Machu Picchu mural with a smiling llama. They even have Inca Kola, which I tried for the first time. They are just getting going and didn't have menus yet. Plus, still doing some light construction work in the kitchen. So it will be good to see what it's like once they're fully established. I will be back to see how things develop and it'll likely go up to four stars. A su mare, is Peruvian, slang and it's used to indicate surprise or astonishment. And I have to say, wow, this restaurant is a nice surprise! Come support a dose of culinary diversity in the neighborhood.

Ceviche on top of way too much potato! ($24).

A newish neighborhood place, our expectations were hopeful but we ended up being disappointed. Food was pricey: ceviche and 2 soups, each item was around $25! No alcohol either. Food had some character but nothing to get us to return. Ambiance is really poor: Lighting too bright and overall a bit dirty. We really didn't know what to order, menu was in Spanish with sporadic translation. I tried google translate but didn't get anything accurate. I'd recommend revamping menu and prices, adding some inviting decor, offer wine and beer and make this a neighborhood gem.

Atmo/Vibe: Bright and unpretentious, the interior of Asu Mare is tiny and sparsely furnished with 6 tables. Two murals and a smattering of colorful decorations add to the vibrant feel. Everything is clean, the music is at a pleasant volume, and the people are eager to please. I say people because it feels more like a family than a staff. We had our order taken at our table, but paid at the register. Everyone inside (customers and staff) was speaking Spanish, too. We saw couples and folks with babies in highchairs, which (combined with the small size) enhanced the feeling of being in a family environment. The restaurant was quite chilly, with windows and door open, but that added a little street food nostalgia to the place, which enhanced the experience of authentic Peruvian dining. Bring a sweater, and an appetite! Food: The menu could use an improved English translation, but everything we had was good. The portions were generous, more than offsetting the cost. Two of us shared an appetizer, a ceviche, and an entree, and brought two boxes of food home. We can't wait to go back and try more from their menu! My partner was raised in Peru and said the Seco de Cabrito reminded him of his grandmother's recipe. Our hostess described the Ceviche as very spicy, then asked if we wanted mild, medium, or full spice. We went with medium, and it was "buen picante" (spicy by gringo standards, but not unapproachable). When we told them we were celebrating, we were treated to huge goblets of their homemade Maracuyá (passion fruit drink) with a side of ice. Asu Mare does not have a liquor license, but there are plenty of non-alcoholic drink options. In conclusion: We look forward to working our way through the menu! Definitely recommend!

The ultimate hole in the wall Peruvian spot. The flavor speaks for itself. I wish them ultimate success so I can keep coming here. I've had three different items from the menu and each time I'm blown away. The food has real authentic Peruvian food. Come hungry bc you will finish your plate every time!

This place has to be one of the Best Peruvian Restaurants that we have been. The menu is Excellent and with change of Dishes Weekly. We travel all over the Bay Area trying different Peruvian Food and we've found a gem. I compare my food to my aunties cooking and rarely do I find anything Comparable. We tried my Favorite today, which is "CAUCAU" and it made me forget my aunties Caucau!!!

The standout of the night was Javier C. He appeared to be doing the work of multiple people--serving tables, tending the bar, and even helping clear and reset tables. Throughout the evening, he remained attentive, professional, friendly, and efficient. He consistently checked on guests and ensured everyone had what they needed. Unfortunately, many of the other servers seemed disengaged. Several appeared more focused on standing around and repeatedly wiping menus than assisting guests or checking on their tables. As a result, Javier seemed to be carrying much of the workload himself while other team members were noticeably inattentive. Limon is fortunate to have an employee like Javier. His work ethic, sense of urgency, and dedication to customer service set an excellent example. I hope management recognizes his efforts and encourages the rest of the team to follow his lead. Javier was the reason our dining experience remained positive despite the lackluster service from much of the rest of the staff.

From the moment I sat down, the warm glow of the dining room, lively energy, and inviting aromas drifting from the kitchen set the tone for an exceptional evening. The cocktails were outstanding. The Ojos Así was beautifully balanced, with bright, refreshing notes layered over deeper, more complex flavors that unfolded with each sip. Its vibrant presentation and fragrant aroma made it as enjoyable to admire as it was to drink. Equally impressive was the Y El Hombre Caimán, a bold and expertly crafted cocktail bursting with character, combining rich flavors and a silky texture while remaining remarkably approachable. Both were the kind of cocktails that make you slow down, savor every sip, and appreciate the artistry behind them. For the main course, the Costilla Negra was the star of the table. Perfectly cooked and incredibly juicy, the short rib featured a beautifully caramelized exterior that gave way to tender, flavorful meat. Each bite delivered a satisfying balance of richness and refinement, while the thoughtfully plated accompaniments added contrasting textures and complementary flavors that elevated the dish even further. What truly elevated the experience was the service. Rhi, tending bar, was knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about the cocktail program. Her recommendations were spot on and added an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening. She is a true master at her craft. Jackie, our server, was equally fantastic--warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, making us feel like valued guests throughout the meal. The employee quickly greeted me, and provided me with a menu when I told her I would be ordering takeout. They conveniently have two menus one vegetarian menu and one regular menu. I'd seen plenty of reviews on the anticuchos, aka the beef heart skewers, and I thought I would live a little and give it a try. I also ordered the lomo saltado, which is thinly cut steak served with vegetables rice and French fries. While I was waiting for my food, I could not help but appreciate the interior of this restaurant. This place is designed exceptionally well. This would be a perfect atmosphere for a lunch/dinner date or to meet friends. I was utterly amazed at the interior and ambiance of this restaurant. The food was prepared in about 10 minutes, and the entire time I could smell the delicious and mesmerizing aromas coming from the kitchen. I regretted getting my food to go because those savory scents made me want to dig into the food as soon as it came out. Once I finally got enjoy the food, my only two regrets were: 1. Why didn't I order more menu items ? 2. Why haven't I tried this place earlier? The anticuchos was marinated and cooked to perfection. Beef heart is not something you see on a menu often and a lot of places that serve it tend to overcook it which causes it to be overly tough and chewy. You only get one skewer for this order, but there is a good amount of beef on that one skewer. This dish is served with sliced potatoes that added a nice textural balance to the dish. The sauce they serve it with is a bit spicy, so test it out first before bathing your food in it. The anticuchos is probably not for everyone, as beef heart has a slight iron like taste to it that some people might not like if they are not accustomed to it. The lomo saltado was pretty tasty, however I thought there was far too much rice and not enough steak and vegetables compared to most places I've gotten this dish in the past. The rice was your typical white rice, nothing special. But the beef and vegetables were seasoned nicely and cooked to perfection. Price wise, this restaurant is not cheap but not overly expensive. For the two dishes I got, it came out to around $42 not including gratuity. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes Peruvian food and/or is looking for a place with a nice ambiance to enjoy a meal alone, a dare, or friends/family. I will definitely be returning and checking out some of their other menu items.

What a great find! I had a terrific lunch over at Roses on Adeline…read more Arrived right when they opened at 4pm and sat right down at the bar. I met the lovely Aurora who took great care of me from start to finish. This spot had a great happy hour and i definitely took advantage of the HH drinks. I had two for 10 bucks a piece, such a great little deal. Initially I wanted a burger, but if there is raw fish on the menu, all other thoughts leave my brain. So, of course, I had to grab the ahi tuna bowl. and my oh my, that was delicious!!!!! So many places with tuna, don't serve it with Won Ton chips, but Roses on Adeline got the memo! I love a won ton chip and these were giant and perfect with my fish. The fish came in a lovely sauce. So perfect! Such a great spot! I had a great time chatting it up with Aurora and eating yummy food. I love finding places that are somewhat nearby because it gives me a great excuse to come again.
