Julio's does something no other local empanada place does, they label their empanadas. It's a nice touch. Much appreciated, too. I had been wanting to try the and finally got the chance. I had the fugazetta, the mushroom and onion, and the chicken salsa verde. I also tried their pineapple basil fresca. To empanadas makes a perfect meal. I didn't really like my drink. Maybe a little too much basil for me. The empanadas were delicious, and just the perfect size. I really enjoyed my meal as a whole. I got lunch and a snack for later for under $20 bucks. The place is clean and bright. I wouldn't say the staff is friendly, but they were efficient. FYI - parking can be tricky. But that's ok. I still have a lot of flavors to try. This will probably be my number one empanada spot in Oakland Recommended.

I ordered from 9 Julio's Empanadas for an event for 40 alumni in the Bay Area. The reviews from the attendees were really positive. I ordered their farmers market salad, empanadas (vegetarian, meat and dessert), steak, plantain chips, and some other delicious dishes). The process was easy from placing the order to delivery. I was hosting this event and flying from Los Angeles in a space co-hosted in the Bay Area so I wanted great and delicious food but didn't want to worry about the food logistics. I wanted to worry about the event only. The food was fresh and sourced locally.

9 Julio's Empanadas are on the smaller side, but really delicious. I have large hands, so they're just slightly larger than the palm of my hand. I enjoyed the Jamaican Beef and Chicken Rojo. I'd say that both were very good and I was glad that the nice woman at the counter recommended the Chicken Rojo, which she said was her favorite. All-Natural chicken, tomatoes, red bell peppers, onions, and guajillo chilies comprise the Chicken Rojo. Jamaican Beef has ground beef, onions, scallions, scotch bonnet peppers and curry. They have a rotating menu of empanadas. The Argentinian chimichurri sauce is great for dipping the empanadas. This is the gourmet end of the fast food scale. I guess the big question is whether they're better than Javi's (with two locations). While there are differences between their empanadas, I'd call it a tie because both are exceptional. Just go to the one closest to you. Or if you're looking for a nicer restaurant interior, this is more modern. But Javi's feels more folksy authentic and 9 Julio is more true to the major metropolis that is Buenos Aires. After all, the restaurant is named after a street there that is the widest in the world! Not that I've been to South America, let along Argentina. LOL The five stars includes the rest of the menu. The house-made sweet potato chips are incredible. I could not stop eating them. The chipotle dipping sauce only made them better. Beyond that I'd be curious to try the Peruvian chicken or chimichurri steak entrées. They had nice little selection of four beers. I went for the Mexican logger, but I almost got the IPA. Lager beer I like a nice lager beer. They had a few wines too, although wasn't really tuning into them. The space was nice and clean. Friendly and helpful service when I ordered at the counter. A good selection of tables to choose from and some interesting shapes at that. And there's a long bar with barstools along the front window. I like the artful interior decorating. Above par for fast food. Open 11-9 every day except Mondays. Check in on Yelp to get free chips. A $3.95 value!

Now if these aren't the best little empanadas that I ever did taste! 9 Julio most certainly knows how to do empanadas right. I've tried just about every empanada flavor on their menu, and every single one tastes fantastic! My personal faves are the spinach and cheese, Jamaican beef, and the humita. I like that they switch up the flavors every once in a while so that I can try something new and different (although it sometimes makes me miss my old faves). Erica is awesome! She is always holding down the fort and welcoming the clients. The Agua Frescas are dynamite and I looove the watermelon mint! Would highly, HIGHLY recommend that you give that a try because it's tasty. I've also fallen deeply in love so their gaucho chopped salad. It is so delicious! I typically add steak to it and make it a meal all on its' own. My staff and I order from here a few times a month, and I also pop by for lunch when I can to enjoy a sit down meal inside. They now have happy hour during the week and offer beer and wine. The interior space is bright and cozy. There's no dedicated parking lot, but I've always been able to find street parking (most times right in front of their storefront). They're located off of Claremont Ave but it can be easy to miss. They're right across the street from the Red Sea Ethiopian restaurant. So glad to have this yummy empanada spot nearby! Looking forward to trying some new empanada flavors and more entrees off of their menu soon.

Quickly becoming a favorite spot! The interior is airy/spacious, very clean, and cute. As soon as you walk in you will be greeted and helped. The menu focuses on empanadas, of course, but there are a few other entree dishes as well as salads to choose from. I've tried most of the empanadas and they are all yummy. They do lean a little bit on the dry side, though they are served with a sauce (chimichurri?). The sauce is a little too oily for me. I prefer their house hot sauce. My favorite empanada flavors are the chicken rojo and any of the beef ones. I would recommend a half salad and 2 empanadas for lunch or 3 for dinn I was not the hugest fan of the chimichurri steak--too chewy. But the Peruvian roasted chicken is tasty, if empanadas aren't for you. I also really enjoyed the farmer's market salad. The watermelon arugula salad is nice and fresh for summer as well. I hope they expand their salad selection because they do pair well with the empanadas. The smashed potatoes are really nice as well. Props as well for having a Coke soda fountain. And all in all the pricing is very reasonable and the service is fast. I look forward to trying more of the empanadas!

This review has been long overdue! I first discovered this place through social media. Needing something for a gathering, I placed an order of 50 empanadas to try all the flavors, and they were a hit! Later, I used a third-party delivery service to get some frozen ones to keep at home. This time, I only ordered the flavors we personally liked the most: spinach, mushrooms, and chicken verde (just my personal taste). Though I hadn't been to the location yet, I happened to drive by one day and saw the restaurant. I walked in and was greeted by the owner, who was incredibly friendly. We had a little chat, and the whole staff was welcoming. Already a fan of their empanadas, I was impressed by how nice, neat, and beautiful the little shop is. I sat, enjoyed my empanadas and plantain chips, and took more home . Last night, when I needed to pick up dinner and I was nearby, I ordered some Peruvian chicken, rice, gaucho salad, steak, and a couple of empanadas, of course! Let me tell you, their chicken is my new obsession. It was incredibly juicy and tasty. You definitely need to try it for yourself!

Food was so delicious, hit the spot! Chicken empanada is perfect for kids. The place is beautiful, beer and hibiscus agua fresca was refreshing and perfect pair for rotisserie chicken and steak. Service was fast and everyone was so nice. Highly recommended.

I showed up to this place with some curiosity, I love eating empanadas and saw it so I gave it a go. No cash, missed opportunity for some clients, especially the Latinos considering it a Latinos considered that a lot of folk do cash only ( mostly friends I know that they came to America with only the license of god). They had ran out of the chorizo and potato ones, so those must be good, staff is friendly they offered me a Cuban picadillo, but I ordered something else. That empanada and the following don't quite line up to Argentina style empanadas. They also do Jamaican patty like ones , and salsa verde ones. Even though some fusion places are cool sometimes, it's a reinvention of the wheel, you can find Jamaican patties in Oakland, and I'm sure that there is a Mexican restaurant that sells Mexican style empanadas. I ended up eating a mushroom one and a humita, delicious but a bit small for the empanadas. Good price for the size though. The chimichurri had onion, not that conventional. The pineapple water was delicious. Would I recommend? Maybe if your family or squad is undecided on what kind of food to eat , since there's at least 3 or 4 countries represented in the ingredients. Now if I was argentino I would be offended regarding the name to the identity 1. In correct grammar it should be 9 DE julio. 2. For an Argentino name it is way a lot of fusion. If I could rate it 3.68 if I could rate it that. But Yelp reviews don't run like that , it is like if chipotle started an Argentine business not bad but there's better out there.

Delicious Empanadas in the cutest little shop. I got the mushroom, and green chicken flavors. The empanadas were delightful, fresh, well priced and I love that I got to pair mines with wine during a quick after-work link.

On our first 20 mile drive to visit, they blocked us at the inside of the unlocked front door at 3:12pm. Street parking can be difficult but a short drive\walk distance about a block away is a $3 an hour parking garage. The place looks clean and not too busy. We sit and our waitress Yanira M was perfect. Very nice, patient and attentive. We three shared two carne asada dinners with rice and refried red beans, two coffees, a coke and three pupusas. $101.36 before tip. The menu was confusing to us. First, the use of the menu words "red refried beans" confused us as refried beans have never been red in our lifetimes and these were pretty standard brown pinto bean looking and tasting. Maybe less confusion if they were called refried red beans. Then, we thought dinners came with pupusas. No. They came with two each thick tortillas (same as half pupusas with no filling as I could tell.) I enjoyed these thick homemade tortillas. The steak was not bad but I wish it had been served with its sizzle in tact. Salsa and coleslaw came as condiments though they might have been introduced with different names by Yanira. The coleslaw was a nice touch-served in a small jar with serving tongs. The salsa was tasting a bit like the V8 vegetable juice that you had as a kid or teen if you are a boomer. This meal could have really used some homemade spice sauce to add some kick to it. The main negatives today were the high music level at the back where we sat. That, and a busser man dragging some screeching and protesting chairs across the floor - to set up for a large party I believe. Real ear busters. The best part of the meal was the piping hot pupusas and our coffee. I would go back for those.

Like their other permanent locations, here you will also find tacos with various fillings, lunch plates and other items. Walk on in and you'll find an airy clean open interior with high ceilings and plenty of seating and tables all around. Scan the laminated paper menu at the counter. Order up at the counter, grab a pager, find a seat, enjoy the Latin music over the speakers and before you know it, your order is presented before you. Trying to stay "healthy", I decided against my all-time favorite Baja fish tacos, and ordered the Pollo de Cholita plate. With this you get a big boneless chicken thigh marinated with herbs and mild spices with white rice, beans (black or pinto), a side salad of fresh mixed greens and three delicious fried plantains. The chicken thigh is flattened thin, but was totally moist and tender and most importantly flavorful and not overly marinated on the tongue. The rice with black beans and mixed greens in a light vinaigrette were the perfect neutral companion to the chicken, with the plantains providing a lightly fried sweet contrast and finish to the meal..
