I love empanadas and stopped by spontaneously because I was parked right outside of the cafe. We chose three savory and two sweet empanadas to take home. They were all delicious! My son really enjoyed the pizza empanada and the apple cinnamon was my favorite. They were filled well and had good flavors. I wish they were a bit bigger for the price, though... they're pretty small (2-4 bites, maybe, depending on how big your mouth is?) and the sweet empanadas are significantly smaller than the savory ones. I enjoyed them and would consider stopping by again for a snack the next time I'm in the neighborhood.

type of empanada is written in dough - how cool!

Ended up eating here by chance, and I'm so glad I did! My friend and I actually had plans to eat at a brunch spot nearby but they were closed for NYE, so we walked across the street and found this place! I got the Champiñon (CHA) and Humita (HU) empanadas for $5.75 each, and they also come with a side of chimichurri sauce. I would say 2 empanadas is the perfect portion size, but 1 would be enough for a snack. They were delicious, especially the Humita empanada which has sweet corn, onions, and bechamel sauce. I would get it again! Each empanada also has decorative dough inscriptions of both the restaurant name and type of empanada they are, which is a super cool touch! Also, the service here is incredible - I only saw one lady working there but she is super friendly. I would come here again!

Located near the Lake Merritt area, Javi's Empanadas is a convenient spot to pick up a quick bite to eat with a small selection of sweet and savory empanadas. Prices are slightly above what I would expect for the relative size of what you get. So expect to buy two or even three to get a full lunch portion. Most savory options are spicy or at least contain some level of spice, which may not be for everyone. There are only two sweet options. Other than that, there's not much more besides a few drinks that they serve up. Service is friendly and swift. Again, this is a no frills spot more appropriate for a quick snack.

Looking for a spot to eat and thought empanadas would be a good choice. Swung by and got a coffee and 2 carne y queso empanadas. Real good not even gonna complain at all! If you in the area swing by and grab an empanada yawwwp.

I went to Jaci's on a whim. I was in the neighborhood, parked nearby. I had been craving empanadas and thought, " why not?". I normally go somewhere else that's not in Oakland, but I am always down to try new things. I got two flavors, in case I didn't like one, or in case I did. The chorizo was ok. It has more ingredients than I'm used to. With eggs, potatoes , and cheese, it felt kind of breakfasty. The champinones (mushroom) was better. It had a hint of spice and a good balance of ingredients. Both were a good size, and not too doughy. The empanadas are a good size. They had a good selection, and there were other flavors I would want to try. They had coffee , smoothies, and sandwiches, too. I think like most things, it comes down to preference and what you are used to. I will definitely go back, but will likely find a new favorite just to have there. Extra points for the lady who was working that day. She was terrific. It's an easy walk if you are Uptown. Parking nearby isn't too hard. Try them out, you might like them.

It's a small corner store with authentic Argentinian small bites, specialized in empanadas. Good variety of empanadas, smoothies and sandwiches. Serves alcohol (beers) and has some indoor seating. It's a fast-food self-service type. Interestingly, they're open to empanadas and smoothies suggestions, cool!

Yummy empanadas!! Enjoyed it at the park across the street! Definitely recommend adding the chili/seasoning oil. Shop was super cute and clean, and worker was super nice! I recommend the Chorizo empanada!

Came here with a friend for some coffee and share an empanada. I've been to the West Oakland location during the pandemic for their special roasted chicken dinner. So was pleasantly surprised that Javi's took over this corner spot near the Y. We ordered two coffees and shared a chorizo empanada. Both hit the spot. They have a variety of empanadas on the menu. Might give it another try when time permits.

We stopped by the truck on First Friday because we've always walked by the store. We ordered two empanadas and were over charged $33. It wasn't even warm when we got it and was very mid. Wont be back

Lots of choices. So good that I also bought some frozen ones for later. Can't go wrong with the vegan and beef. Friendly counter service with inside and outside seating. Lively atmosphere from the Latin music. Outside sign is so appropriate!

Food was delicious. The cashier was very friendly and helped us with very good recommendations. The only downside is that it's a little on the expensive side.

Not only did we strike up a conversation with Carolina (the owner) but man she was just wonderful. It is so refreshing to see someone so cheerful and passionate about their job. She was wonderful when it came to asking us what we were looking for. We decided to get several options - apple empanada, chicken, ham and cheese, and veggies. Ham and cheese 10/10 - the amounts of ham added to the empanada was surprising. Usually, I find it hard to get enough filling but it was just enough. Veggie 9/10 - spinach, corn, squash, mushroom. The seasoning on this was amazing, and before I knew it I was more than halfway through it. Apple empanada - was a nice little treat. Omg! They have Peruvian beer and I love that for me because it's delicious, and also very uncommon! My only regret is not getting more empanadas (you can get a pack to go that is frozen), because they had some many options.

It packed the flavor punch of homestlye cooking and would rival more expensive sit-down restaurants. What a gem! We ordered the Venezuelan arepa, birria empanada, mushroom empanada, side Macondo salad, and passion fruit juice. Every dish was fantastic, and I'd easily recommend any of the above. Venezuelan arepa -- the was ridiculously yummy. The perfect balance of creamy, rich avocado sauce with chicken. It was hearty, balanced, and perfectly seasoned. Birria empanada -- this was delicious, rich, and perfect for the particularly chilly late afternoon. Birria on point. If you're craving birria in a delectable, crispy empanada format, you'll be quite happy. Mushroom empanada -- yummy. We love mushroom empanadas and they executed this one well. Macondo side salad -- surprisingly fantastic! Did not expect it to be so tasty. It was only a side dish for the combo, but it held its own among the baked goods. That's how yummy it was. Passion fruit juice -- sweet and relatively thick. They definitely didn't water it down! If you're a fan of passion fruit juice, you'll must try this one. Environment was fast casual. Only drawback was althe comfort level of a few of the dining chairs, which sloped backwards in an awkward way. The bench actually felt more comfortable, so we opted for that. We ordered the Venezuelan, Colombian, and Pulled Pork BBQ arepas, the birria empanadas, pandebono with dulce de leche, and the chocolo arepa. Unfortunately, we couldn't finish most of the food. The birria empanadas and all three arepas were way too salty. I'm not sure if they went a little overboard with the salt today, but it was overwhelming and made it hard to enjoy anything. The pandebono with dulce de leche was also disappointing. It's described as being filled with dulce de leche, but it was actually just a plain pandebono with a small side of dulce de leche. The texture was also a bit too chewy for my liking. The only item I truly enjoyed and was able to eat was the chocolo arepa that one was actually decent. Overall, I was pretty disappointed because I really enjoy arepas and was excited to find a new spot. I may give them another try in the future in case it was just an off day, but this first experience didn't live up to my expectations.

I ordered both the crab and Cuban empanadas when I visited them at the San Jose Latin Food Festival. Their empanadas are made-to-order, which is great in theory as you know they are fresh but also resulted in waiting almost 30-45 minutes. The empanadas were definitely tasty but not necessarily worth the long wait. Now I should mention that the festival itself was a complete flop (if I could write a review, it would be two stars)... besides this place, there was literally one other taco truck and a Puerto Rican food stall. There were quite a few people in attendance at this festival that were literally all split in terms of waiting in line between these three places. I'll give Dona Aida's the benefit of the doubt and that they may have just been overwhelmed with the crowd hence the long wait time. However, I should note that I also caught a glimpse of this place at the Latin Food Festival in Oakland (much more successfully put together than the festival in San Jose) and they seemed to be backed up there as well. Once again, the empanadas from here were delicious and had I picked up my order immediately, I would have given a five star review, but it does seem like they are best used for pre-orders/catering rather than made-to-order at an event.

There is a large assortment of empanadas, from meat options like chorizo and chicken, to vegetarian like corn and onion, to sweet options too like apples. The menu also boasts lots of great drinks including mate tea! Lucky us, the empanadas we ordered weren't in stock so we had to wait ~10 for freshly baked ones. They came out buttery and piping hot, even with little hand-stamped letters on them so you know what you're eating, and it was so delicious. Most are about $5.50 each. Add oregano chimichurri for a bit extra if you want or pair with a tea, but these empanadas really hit the snacky spot. Lots of wooden tables with fresh flowers make Pampas a great space to chat with friends or to sit and do some work. The issue is that I was definitely pushing it on time if I planned on making my flight. As I was driving here, I had the thought that if there was an annoying parking situation or a line, I would just have to pivot and forego patronizing. But as it turns out, there was one spot available right next to the front door and no one inside. But then when I requested a nitro, the owner (I assume?) was extremely apologetic that their coffee machine broke. I asked for a few alternate types of coffee, but it turned out said machine controlled it all. So we shifted to the pastries. I read on the website that they had something with guava, so I asked for two of those: one for me, one for the wife. He even offered to heat mine up, which I will say yes to 100% of the time. I then jumped back in the car and was back into "don't' miss your flight mode." Of course, when you're in a hurry, you manage to hit every red light along the way, so I was doing a lot of yelling at electricity and God. But then I figured I might as well take the time to try the pastry that I'd originally planned on eating on the plane. As it turns out, it brought me into a nearly immersive experience of zen. The only bad thing is that I devoured it within seconds and then it was merely a thing of the past. My wife is fortunate that I have the amount of integrity that I do because I am sitting on the plane as I write this and I could easily inhale that 2nd pastry with her being none the wiser.
