14 September​ 2017. As promised, I stopped by for dinner to try other dishes, since I was back in Raleigh. The salad with balsamic vinaigrette was very fresh but fairly typical. The garlic bread knots were good as I remembered, but I had to limit myself to 1 to save room for dessert. The Zuppa di Pesce was a mixed seafood in miranara sauce with spaghetti. The pasta was cooked all dente. The sauce was savory; the seafood tasty. The serving though felt like it was enough for 2. This dish was excellent. I asked for the tiramisu to go. I enjoyed it for breakfast the next day. It was good, especially with black coffee. All in all, I like this restaurant and look forward to coming back next time I am in this area. read more

I love Assaggios... so much I brought my sister from NY to visit on Sunday afternoon 8/11/24. We sit to eat and a customer dining next to us tell my 14 year old a waterbug is crawling under her seat. We all get up and inform the staff who then assaults this bug with a cleaning chemical right before our food arrives. At this point my sister has to use the restroom and she proceeds to run from the bathroom looking crazy because there was another one under the toilet. They somehow kill that one but the one that was poisoned to death is gasping for air and flapping closer and closer to the table. The informant couple next to us gets missing and my oldest... God bless her decides she's had enough and punts it out the back door. I think after all that and maybe you too that there would be a discount or compensation for the whole debacle but there wasn't. I'm pretty sure your thinking... why did they leave? As I said before I love their food and on the strength of that, my sister decided to stay and enjoy the 125.00 lunch including tip. Honestly I feel like I need a gift card or something just for the trauma. What do you think? read more

I guess I could blame my perennial bad luck, but I think that's a stretch. I ordered delivery from Yelp's eat24 and after 90 min I knew something was amiss. I called...only to again be a computer victim because they hung up on me. Thanks to caller id, they called back to say they hadn't received my order but will put in at that time. Two hours after placing my order, the very nice delivery lady arrived with apologies and a slice of cheesecake. It was just a shame the pizza was under cooked and doughy and the cookies were stale. Sigh I guess I could give them another chance...the thing is, at their prices who wants too? The delivery person was very nice. The food was lukewarm and under done. A small plain pie and order of cookies (I have a weakness ok?) put me at almost $30. Use your judgement. read more

Our dining experience was average at Assaggio's. The service was friendly enough and our server provided a few recommendations. The prices of the entrees seem a bit high, but they do include a salad and garlic knots so I think that does even it out. We both ordered a caesar salad to start, but it wasn't a classic caesar. It was a garden salad mix with a creamy caesar dressing and coupons. The garlic knots were very tasty though. I ordered the shrimp scampi and was not overly impressed. It lacked flavor and I had to add a lot of salt, pepper, and parmesan cheese to add a little pizzazz. The shrimp was not exciting and had a little bit of a fishy taste. My fiance had the gnocchi nepolitano, which was very good. I ended up ditching my dish and helping him eat the rest of the gnocchi. Next time we are in the mood for Italian food, we might try a different place. read more

One of my favorite Italian restaurants in the area. The spaghetti sauce is exquisite and the tiramisu is worth the trip!

Great service and excellent food. I enjoyed the calamari appetizer and the main course gnocchi which was served in a tomato cream sauce that brought the taste of Italy perfectly. The dinners are served with choice of salad and fresh from the oven garlic bread knots. Everything was served in very generous amounts leaving me no room to try one of the delicious looking desserts so took home mine home. Again delicious later with my coffee read more

Okay, I've passed Assaggio's hundreds of times over the years and never stopped by until one lazy Sunday when I was starving and not really interested in cooking. I ordered the fettuccine alfredo w/ chicken which came with garlic knots and a small salad. I came in again a week later to enjoy dine-in meal, which did NOT disappoint. I felt like the dine-in experience was GREAT and the garlic knots endless, whereas my earlier to-go meal came w/ 2 garlic knots. I did need to add some salt to my meals, but I think that's because I like salty things. I try to eat low-carb so coming to Assaggio's was certainly a treat. The service here was impeccable; our waitress could not have been nicer and the restaurant itself offered a warm and inviting atmosphere. I will absolutely be back for a cheat day :) read more

I'm so glad I finally was able to try out Assaggio's! The evening started out a little rough. I had a party of 7 w/ no reservation, so I called ahead and asked what the wait would be like. I was told that there would probably be no wait. We drove right over and ended up having to wait 30-40 minutes! We were so hungry and irritable, but the waitress's sweet and accommodating approach quickly changed my mood. And nothing like hot, crispy-on-the-outside-soft-on-the-inside, garlicky knots to snap me out of my hangriness! The food portions were kind of small when ordering a baked dish like manicotti and lasagna. However, after eating a salad and garlic knots, it was plenty. Everyone liked their meal. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce was very bright and fresh tasting and the meatballs stole the show. They were very flavorful and super tender. In fact, I'm getting a hankering to return now just by writing this review. read more

Why does a bowl of fettuccine Alfredo cost $20? This place used to be a good local spot, but they have continued to raise their prices. Stop charging $20 for noodles, sauce and no protein. You'll get more business. read more

On a scale of overcooked tofu pasta to fresh and al dente pasta, Assigfio's is a solid near perfectly cooked pasta. My "go-to" spot for a big salad and the occasional fairly delicious Italian specials. There are better Italian places I go to for sit down meals but this place is perfect for a healthy take home salad as they are large and have multiple salads to choose from. Sammiches are good too and they have both cold and hot options to choose from. They also have some tasty desserts. Typical Italian dishes are also plentiful. Ohhhhh...and the garlic knots! Free with each meal ordered, fresh, warm, smothered in fresh garlic...delicious! They have a great and friendly staff, especially John and Mary. Sit at the bar and chances are pretty good they'll be there. They have beer on tap as well as some bottle options (Peroni being one!) and some rotating wine specials as well. This is yet another one of those times where half stars are needed because I'd bump them up to 4.5. read more

Second time eating at Assaggios and again a positive experience. Started with the irresistible garlic knots which is delicious piping hot. Followed by the veal parmigiana which I'd recommend. Ended with the tiramisu which is unbelievably light with a wonderful taste. Highly recommend you try it for dessert, you'll love it. read more

I always order pickup from here and the pastas are on an average pretty decent, I happen to particularly enjoy their side salad. Garlic knots and Bruschetta are really nice here but the pizza has almost always let me down. The pizzas are always soggy with the toppings and something just doesn't work on the whole. Looking for thin crust NY style pizza. Came in to try it out and .... Nope. Not it. Service was ok. Waitress was trying hard I'll give her that. She forgot the salad we ordered. Calamari was ok. Marinara sauce was really good. Had the right amount of crushed red pepper. Had a cheese pizza. Cheese was off and crust was hand tossed not thin crust. Nothing terrible just not great. Missed my extra ranch for my salad and garlic knots with the fettuccine entree. Fettuccine with chicken was good but expensive. $20.00 for a bowl of noodles is high. I've ordered alot of food but this had to be the worst italian food in Raleigh. My fiance had shrimp scampi pasta it seemed prepared not to mention overcooked by someone who has never had the dish whats funnier they used the wrong pasta. We ordered cheese bread the quality was laughable you're better off getting frozen texas toast at the local grocery store. The forgot to pack my Stromboli which that did not help their case. Garlic bread was ok nothing to say. However the marinara sauce that they presented as a dipping sauce was so watered down it tasted old. We tried their chocolate cake followed a similar trend of tasting old not fresh. We decided to add their black & white cookie. Now if you are going to offer desserts and try to make us believe your food is authentic dont order out your desserts to packaged and delivered to you because it's lazy. Unfortunately I can only say they definitely i wouldn't order or come in. There are much better options & sadly large chain restaurants that do it better read more

I'm Italian, my father was born in Naples. We love finding good Italian places. We saw Assaggio's and decided to give it a try. Walking in, we see the display case is completely disheveled, waters spilled everywhere and the other half is completely empty. We look over at two employees (a young guy with glasses, slumped over with his head on his hand and a smaller girl with black hair), both staring at us without saying a work. My father and I feel a big turn off when walking in. The guy then says, "Hi... uh.. welcome.", with his head just slumped into his hand. Both are staring at us like we interrupted them. My father and I just smile and turn around to leave and the two workers start giggling and continue messing around with whatever they were doing. How hard is it to care? How hard is it to actually PRETEND like you give a crap? I won't be returning. Those workers obviously wanted to just "hang out" than help a customer. What a shame. read more

Value-Line Seating, No Budweiser, Suspicious Manicotti, Forgetful Waitress.... I visited on a Friday evening at 7pm. We were promptly greeted at the front door, and shown to our table. It pretty much went downhill from here. First, the tables are way too close together. It is impossible for a person to be sitting at one table, and then have someone sitting in a chair directly behind them. Not only did I have to move the table slightly, I noticed that other patrons had to do the same thing. The waitress approached quickly to take our drink order. I ordered a Budweiser. She came back about five minutes later and explained that they do not carry Budweiser. I was shocked. Budweiser is the number two selling brand in the world. How can any restaurant, that sells beer, fail to offer Budweiser? Should have been a sign of things to come.... I ended up with a Bud Lite (the number one selling brand in the world...just for reference). Our side salads came out next. Decent size, but a little skimpy on the dressing, and basically a plate of lettuce (a shameful and obvious attempt to save a nickel). We both ordered the Baked Manicotti. For those of you not experienced with Italian food, manicotti is a large noodle wrapped into the shape of a tube. It should measure about one inch in diameter, and six inches in length, and should be filled with a combination of ricotta cheese and various meats (such as sausage or pepperoni) and sometimes with green peppers or onions. The manicotti arrived, and the presentation on the plate was acceptable. However, I quickly discovered that their manicotti was filled only with ricotta cheese - no meats whatsoever (another obvious and shameful attempt to save a nickel). Portion size was small, and certainly not worth the $14.95 price tag. The "garlic knots" that they drop off at the table are comprised of rolled pizza dough, dipped in garlic sauce. While this sounds half-way respectable...the bread is extremely chewy, and the garlic much too strong. Upon completion of our dinner, my guest asked for a to-go box. The waitress returned a few moments latter and simply took the plates, and left the check. We never saw her again. Overpriced, poor value, incorrectly described menu items, lack of Budweiser, and a waitress who simply "forgot" to bring a take-out box. Doesn't get much worse than this folks. read more

BEWARE: this restaurant is still serving romaine lettuce in their salads despite the CDC warning stating no one should be consuming romaine, restaurants should not be serving it, and grocery stores should not be selling it. When mentioned to the manager, she states "it doesn't pertain to North Carolina." What? Besides the romaine salad issue, the food was okay. Definitely not authentic. Shrimp in the shrimp scampi tasted fishy, and the gnocchi had a thick layer of cheese on it. Eggplant parm was great. Overall it was fine. Our server was great. Super nice. Management needs to brush up on the E. coli updates. She clearly didn't know and did not attempt to fix the issue. I just hope no one gets sick. read more

This place has a special part in my heart as it is the place my boyfriend and I went on our first date. This time around our food tasted even better than before. The staff is not the most attentive, but this works for them as the setting has a bit of a low light romantic feel. It aids in the feeling of intimacy in a small local mom and pop shop. Very disappointed about our dinner on June 17. We've been to Assaggio's numerous times and all was great. What happened? We sat in the bar, like always, the server was pleasant. Placed our order and waited and waited. 30+ minutes and our food arrived. The pasta was crusty on top, apparently sitting under a heat lamp too long. We had to ask for s&p, grated cheese etc. They didn't appear to be understaffed, not any busier than usual. The food is good, but the wait was lengthy. read more

LOVEEE THIS PLACE!! You can never go wrong with some good, hearty Italian food. My boyfriend got the baked ziti and I got the traditional Spaghetti with meatballs. Paired with the garlic knots.... we made the right call!! The entrees come with a side salad with your choice of dressing and a garlic roll, not to mention a generous portion of food. We couldn't resist (as we've been talking about it all week) and ordered again the following weekend! Times are hard right now with covid and the news is pushing shop small shop local. It's been weeks since we have ordered our and we finally did and I wish I had NOT. Food has always been good but when you order and entree and it comes with garlic knots and a salad which your kids are so exited for and it doesn't show up that's not cool. I have been going to Assaggios for years. We have had the same waiter almost every time and he has always been great. With a baby coming we have been getting takeout more lately. When I came in for my last order I noticed several cooks not wearing masks nor was the man who greeted me for my pickup. I questioned him about it and he still did not raise his mask despite my concerns. As a mother to be I have been taking every precaution to remain healthy and there are several places I cannot go to due to my health. Unfortunately, Assaggios is now one of them too. read more

Great local Italian eatery. We have tried multiple items on the menu, and everything has been great; fresh, and delicious. The antipasta salad and manicotti with meat sauce are definitely our favorites. We have ordered these multiple times, and the food is always consistent. The entrees are enough to share, and you'll probably want to share so you have room for their chocolate cake or cannoli desserts... yum! Also they have monthly entree specials; those should not be missed. read more
