Assaggio's Italian Restaurant is located in Northwest Raleigh. The parking lot didn't have many parking spaces. It does appear to have a lot of take-out orders, so the available spots may open up often. We were a group of 8, but we were seated very tightly, so there wasn't enough room to be comfortable. After drink orders were taken, garlic knots were brought out. But we didn't have bread plates. I'm not sure whether they forgot or should have been at the table already. I ordered the shrimp scampi. The six little shrimp were cooked well, but I did not find the pasta very flavorful. It needed some garlic and spices. I ordered this dish at many restaurants, and this just did not compare in quality. The prices are higher than those of other Italian restaurants, too. The waiter seemed good at first, but one of the dishes was delivered to the wrong customer, so there was a delay in preparing a replacement meal. Then the kitchen never drained the water from the pasta so the sauce was watery. The waiter decided that he was sure the kitchen prepared it correctly, and this dish wasn't taken back to the kitchen to get the pasta replaced. Another at the table had an almost identical dish, and the pasta sauce was not watery. It was disappointing that the waiter did not handle the situation properly. When it was time to leave, we were told that to-go boxes were on a nearby table. The waitresses boxed up the leftovers for their tables, though. So I am not sure why the waiter didn't do that for us. Then he left the payment device with me, as I was the last to pay, and didn't wait to get it back after I completed the transaction. Great food - slow service! I like the fact that they still include a free salad and garlic knots with your dinner. It did take over 20 minutes for us to receive our salads after we ordered. Just like most restaurants the portion sizes have decreased. The eggplant rollatini used to have 3 eggplant rolls - now you only get 2 - still plenty to eat. The Penne Santa Lucia was very flavorful. We discovered this unassuming Italian restaurant on the way to an event last night. My teen and friend zeroed in on it noting there were gluten-free options on their website. I was pleasantly surprised to find out at the restaurant that they have a variety of gluten-free pastas including ravioli! I had this with a side salad and my teen had garlic knots (they smelled wonderful and came with a gravy boat of red sauce) and a Mona Lisa pizza with fresh mozzarella. Wow!!! It has been years since I have been in Assaggios. Not cause I haven't wanted to but because I forget about it at times. I am sure happy I went back today for a great Italian sub. One of the best I've had. Good bread makes a sub and their bread is excellent. Crusty on the outside and not too thick where all you feel like you're eating is bread. Only thing I would have liked is a little more veggies but overall very delicious. Great service, very attentive and the restaurant was clean and well put together. The restaurant has a warm, welcoming, and rustic vibe to it. And the food is always amazing. Went in to see what a Bistro and Market would be. Turns out it is a Italian restaurant with a bar (does have packages of desserts to go) I got the hot meatball sub and the Italian to go. The meatballs on the sub had great flavor not much cheese and sauce. The Italian sub was ok too much dressing couldn't taste the meat. read more

Our family was in town for a soccer tournament, and after the first game, our son asked for pizza. I found Assaggio's after doing a quick search on Yelp, and we were all very happy with my selection. I started off with a wonderful glass of Riesling, which was a generous pour. Then, for a starter, we shared the Bruschetta, which had a nice mix of flavors. For our entrees, my son ordered a pepperoni pizza, my husband had the veal parmesan with penne pasta, while I enjoyed the lobster ravioli. It took a while for me to make a decision, though, because there were so many yummy choices on the menu. I was quite happy, though, with my selection. The ravioli is served with a thick and tasty tomato cream sauce. Each bite was a treat! The garlic knots also deserve a shout-out. They were so quite delicious and a really nice change from traditional garlic bread. Then there's the large selection of desserts, which greet you as you walk in the door. We were too full to have anyone after our meal, but we couldn't resist taking something back to the hotel to enjoy later. Been looking for a solid Italian place near me and I think I found it! We started with the calamari and garlic knots. The calamari was a little chewy but ok otherwise. I also feel the garlic knots didn't have a ton of garlic on them but I also just love garlic. I got the chicken piccata. It was delicious and the portion was huge! It came with a salad and garlic knots as well. The dish was delightful and filling. My husband got the pizza and it was delicious, thin crust, cheesey, and greasy. Just delicious. My brother got the pepperoni calzone and my mom the Philly cheesesteak. They also liked their meals. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and thought the portions were very generous. Me and my family love Assaggio's- the pizza is truly one of the best in Raleigh, and the staff have always been kind and friendly to every customer. This time we got takeout, I personally had the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp, and it's one of the best I've had. The shrimp were so flavorful and they gave me such a generous portion. I also had one of the garlic knots, also amazing, the perfect amount of garlic and butter. My family ordered a large pepperoni pizza and it was gone in an hour- it was that good. Not many restaurants have done what one server did for my family a few years back, the customer service and relations here really makes you feel welcomed! I had ordered a soup and (entirely my fault) I assumed it was a entirely different dish to what they actually serve (I mixed up the names). I was a bit disappointed at my own mistake, and the server took notice and repeatedly asked if everything was alright and if the soup was okay. It was good but obviously not what I was expecting, and when we got the check she removed the soup from the bill because she took notice of me and wanted to make things right. The marinara that came with it was great, I normally don't love red sauce but this paired perfectly with the bread. The pasta was good but the Alfredo sauce was okay. Assagio's saved the day for us yesterday. My 14-year old wanted to celebrate his birthday at Olive Garden. They don't take reservations so we arrived at 5 pm on a Sunday thinking that was plenty early to get a table for a large party. There was a one and a half hour wait! My son also loves Assagio's so I called them. They said they would have a table set up for us by the time we arrived, and they did. All enjoyed their food. The kids were fans of the big pizzas. My husband loved his Penne Santa Lucia. Vegetarian daughter was thrilled that they kindly held the prosciutto from her Penne Alla Vodka. I am gluten free so there were not many options for me but I ordered the Italian tuna salad. It's not a tuna filet but a cold shredded tuna salad on top of a green salad.
