Gluten-free cheese ravioli (great portion size for me)
Amanda A.

We discovered this unassuming Italian restaurant on the way to an event last night. My teen and friend zeroed in on it noting there were gluten-free options on their website. I was pleasantly surprised to find out at the restaurant that they have a variety of gluten-free pastas including ravioli! I had this with a side salad and my teen had garlic knots (they smelled wonderful and came with a gravy boat of red sauce) and a Mona Lisa pizza with fresh mozzarella. Ashlin the server was attentive and helpful. We will definitely return.

Easily one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Raleigh. I've been here around 4 or 5 times and have never had a bad experience. The servers are always super nice and attentive. The restaurant has a warm, welcoming, and rustic vibe to it. And the food is always amazing. Their classic pastas are probably some of the best dishes, but you definitely can't go wrong ordering anything else on the menu. Highly recommend trying the garlic knots here.

Meatball Parmigiana Hot Sub
Marie S.

Went in to see what a Bistro and Market would be. Turns out it is a Italian restaurant with a bar (does have packages of desserts to go) I got the hot meatball sub and the Italian to go. The meatballs on the sub had great flavor not much cheese and sauce. The Italian sub was ok too much dressing couldn't taste the meat.

My boyfriend and I order from here at least once every two weeks. The last three times, there has been quality issues with our order. After getting served this sloppy mess pictured below, we can no longer support this business. I tried to push through and eat a slice but when I picked it up, all the toppings slid off the pizza. $30 and they gave us pizza soup. My boyfriend showed them it before he left the store and the person at the front said it was fine. We called and asked for a refund from the manager since it's not edible.

Assaggio's still reigns as my favorite pizza restaurant on this side of Raleigh. As a New Yorker, I'm considered a pizza snob. Assaggio's never disappoints. They also sell delicious Italian bakery items here. The garlic knots, tuxedo cake and pepperoni pie are my favorite menu items. Make this your first stop for pizza in the area. There is ample indoor dining space and they prepare your slices fresh.

A generous and delightful glass of Riesling.

Our family was in town for a soccer tournament, and after the first game, our son asked for pizza. I found Assaggio's after doing a quick search on Yelp, and we were all very happy with my selection. I started off with a wonderful glass of Riesling, which was a generous pour. Then, for a starter, we shared the Bruschetta, which had a nice mix of flavors. For our entrees, my son ordered a pepperoni pizza, my husband had the veal parmesan with penne pasta, while I enjoyed the lobster ravioli. It took a while for me to make a decision, though, because there were so many yummy choices on the menu. I was quite happy, though, with my selection. The ravioli is served with a thick and tasty tomato cream sauce. Each bite was a treat! The garlic knots also deserve a shout-out. They were so quite delicious and a really nice change from traditional garlic bread. Then there's the large selection of desserts, which greet you as you walk in the door. We were too full to have anyone after our meal, but we couldn't resist taking something back to the hotel to enjoy later. I highly recommended you give Assaggio's a try the next time you're in the neighborhood. The friendly staff is eager to serve you.

Spinach calzone, Sausage Calzone, Pepperoni Calzone
Lexi G.

Took us long enough to try this (take out, but we have to go in person sometime) and the calzones were AMAZING. I was not expecting that. I ordered a spinach calzone add sausage, then we got a plain sausage calzone, pepperoni calzone add sausage, and a meatball sub. The photo only shows half the sub. We also split a house salad and it was great! Assagios, thank you for finally satisfying my Italian craving in Raleigh!

Been looking for a solid Italian place near me and I think I found it! We started with the calamari and garlic knots. The calamari was a little chewy but ok otherwise. I also feel the garlic knots didn't have a ton of garlic on them but I also just love garlic. I got the chicken piccata. It was delicious and the portion was huge! It came with a salad and garlic knots as well. The dish was delightful and filling. My husband got the pizza and it was delicious, thin crust, cheesey, and greasy. Just delicious. My brother got the pepperoni calzone and my mom the Philly cheesesteak. They also liked their meals. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and thought the portions were very generous. Service was ok, nothing spectacular and the ambiance is also just fine. Nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about.

I thought the food here was decent but way overpriced for the mid quality. My daughter hated her calzone . Service was fantastic

Consistently yummy. My fave is the chicken piccata. Includes salad. Prices still reasonable considering the amount of food.

The rigatoni alla vodka is still to die for and I haven't found another place that comes close to it in Raleigh or Charlotte. Encourage everyone to support this local, small business!!! The restaurant is nice and dimly lit with plenty of seating, but you will have to find street parking around Glenwood. We were a party of 6 and they pulled together tables to accommodate us. Everything except the caesar was good. I guess we didn't expect the caesar to taste THAT charred and the lettuce to not be chopped. For main entrees, we ordered lasagna, lobster ravioli, penne alla vodka, and alfredo. The vodka pasta and lasagna were unflavored and disliked among the table. I would not recommend those dishes. We entered through a big heavy wooden door into the quasi-dark atmosphere and were promptly seated, despite most of the tables being occupied. We were given a two top and started with chips and guacamole. I was impressed with the chips, they were a little extra thick, had tiny bubbles in them. Certainly a far departure from the typical thin, overly salty chip found at most restaurants and grocery stores. Excellent guac with a little pico and lime wedge on the side. I ordered the Baja bowl with shredded adobo chicken. The bowl had green rice, black beans, a whole lot of kale, tomatillo sauce, pickled red onions, crema, and cilantro. It needed a little more, so I added in some of the guac, a few chips I crumbled in my hands for some crunch, and some fresh lime juice. Noah did a good job keeping our water glasses full and he was quite friendly. However, the restroom situation is a bit difficult. There are two small unisex bathrooms, both of which have to be locked. There can't be more than one person in there at the same time, so plan accordingly. Granted, since there isn't much space in the restaurant, it's not as if they have a ton of options.

It was my first time visiting, and I overall enjoyed the vibes. There's a nice variety of beer selections on tap. The food options are pretty pizza-heavy, but no complaints there. I had the Export Stout for my drink. I am a coffee stout fanatic, and this one was pretty meh. I wasn't getting a lot of coffee notes from it, and it didn't feel as full-bodied as most stouts I've had. Not horrible, but I wasn't overly enthused. However food-wise, the meatball and ricotta pizza was my jam. I love ricotta anything, and the dough had a great chew to it. We stayed basically right up until closing, and the vibes definitely got less hospitable the closer to closing it got. 10 minutes before closing, we were asked to pour our beers into a plastic cup from our glass cups. I've never had that experience at any brewery before. A bit odd lol - like closing right on time was the priority at all costs over the customer experience. But overall, we had a decent first visit, and I would come back.

Once upon a time, this place wasn't just a pizza restaurant--it was a pilgrimage site. People…read morewhispered about its crust like it was sacred text, and its awards lined the walls like a shrine to melted cheese and triumph. "Best Pizza" many years running back when that actually meant something. Now? It feels less like a restaurant and more like a nostalgic reenactment gone very wrong. The menu still reads like a dream--Carolina crust this, atomic sauce that--but ordering has become a real exercise in imagination. Half the ingredients are apparently on a spiritual journey and no longer physically present. You'll ask for sharp cheddar and get a thoughtful pause, followed by, "We don't have sharp cheddar, we might have a Wisconsin sharp cheddar?" --which, to their credit, has the word "cheddar" in it. The staff move with the energy of a group project that everyone forgot was due today. Pizzas emerge... interpretively. You might order a margherita and receive something that captures its essence, emotionally, if not structurally. It's less "wrong order" and more "pizza as a suggestion." A master of creative problem-solving, this cashier has boldly redefined the concept of "making change." Why fumble with buttons and math when you can simply hand over two beers and call it even? It's less of a transaction and more of a surprise gift exchange--one where the rules are unclear and the outcome is mildly concerning. And the wine list--oh, the wine list--is a beautiful historical document. A relic. A time capsule from at least six months ago, when bottles still existed and hope flowed freely. Now, asking for wine feels like asking about a long-lost friend. "We don't have that," they'll say, gazing into the middle distance. Still, there's something oddly annoying about it all. Like walking into a once-revered theater that still clings to its golden-age reputation. The performances feel like echoes rather than art, the lighting flat where it once dazzled, and every scene drags with the weight of trying to live up to a forgotten past. It's not bad enough to be a disaster--just disappointing enough to make you wonder if the hype was ever real or if you're just eating the ghost of someone else's great experience. Cheers!
