Y'all know I tend to focus on local gems, and this place is in our top 5 eateries for immediate eye-rolling gratification and tasty leftovers regularly in our fridge. We are coming up on 2 years as WF residents, and have eaten at - or picked up for in-home dining - George's pizza, wings, calamari and other awesome fare - this review is long overdue. We have taken out-of-town visitors and family to George's, with rave reviews and amazement over the fresh flavor and relaxing ambiance. Located on White Street alongside local seldom-used train tracks with plenty of on-street and private lot parking, this wheelchair-accessible hideaway is close and easy to get to. We frequently dine in, enjoying epic service from the small and efficient wait staff - yesterday we were privileged to have the amazing Emma serve us - the epitome of friendliness and rapid efficiency, featured in one of the pics posted. Pretty disappointing meal from George's - first time ever eating here and this will be our last. Pizza was very average, didn't care for the sauce. The zucchini sticks were a huge flop. Limp and greasy and we asked for ranch dressing but that was ignored and we got marinara. One and done for us. read more

Had a delicious chicken piccata on my first visit. With a choice of pasta or salad I chose angel hair. Large portion and piping hot! Hot bread roll was tasty and a nice touch. I was excited to order from here. As a Vegetarian, it's always great to find places that serve Meatless options. Here they change out the meat with eggplant. I like eggplant so, sold! I got the eggplant sandwich, this was excellent, had this been the only thing I baught, George's would have gotten 5 stars. Unfortunately... I think they forgot about seasonings... or something... for everything else. I was super excited about the fried ravioli, I used to live next to a pizza place that made amazing, super cheesy large fried ravioli. I had been craving it for days. These tiny, only slightly filled; fried ravioli, looked and tasted like they were baught in bulk and had recently been frozen. Each ravioli was a single bite so they were gone in minutes. My search continues. The bruschetta had no flavor and was covered in large jullianed chunks of onion. I hate onion. The AI description given, said nothing about onion, let alone that there would seemingly be more onion than any other ingredient. Those of us who kept the onion and those of us who picked it off, all agree that it was flavorless. I think they ran out of seasonings and substituted onion instead, only I'm told the onion had no flavor either. The only thing that saved the Caprse salad, was the balsamic vinegarette, otherwise it was also flavorless. I am not sure what went wrong here, maybe they mainly serve the elderly, so they don't season the food? Maybe they had a new cook who could make things look pretty, but does not believe in seasonings? I might order the sandwich again some day, and I would like to try their pizza! But unfortunately we now have this restaurant firmly noted to not to order anything else from them. read more

Delicious Italian food at this local spot in downtown Wake Forest. This pizza shop has changed hands a few times, but the quality of the food is still excellent. Pizza is excellent! NY Style, crisp crust, the perfect cheese-to-sauce ratio. Sauce is slightly sweet, just like it should be. Also tried mozzarella sticks. Doubtful that these are house-made, but they are beautifully deep fried golden brown and crispy. Cheese is gooey and moist. Plus a cup of that pizza sauce for dipping. Try the caprese sub! Thick slices of succulent mozzarella, slices of ripe, sweet tomato, some chopped red peppers, drizzled with olive oil and vinegar and torn basil. All on toasted Italian bread. This is the place for NY style pizza in Wake Forest. It's not fancy and the decor seems like you've stepped back in time but that's its charm. We ordered a large plain pie and it was as close to the foldable, gooey cheesy, chewy crust pies from up North. They even have a cute deck if you like eating outdoors. It's rare that I ever say anything negative but I wouldn't recommend getting the steak and cheese here. I got it a few weeks ago and wanted to love it but had to spit most of it out for fear of choking on the meat. It was all connected together and very hard to eat, hopefully it was just an off night. I will say the cheese pizza was good and hope to try other things that I can love but it the steak and cheese sadly wasn't it. read more

George's Pizzeria is located in Downtown Wake Forest. It is at the end of the Cotton Company. When there are events upstairs at the Cotton Company you can order pizza or other food and take it to your event. I did that when they had the Comedy Nights. You do need to climb some stairs to get in the front door as it is on the second level. They do have curbside pickup if you cannot do the stairs. I went to George's for lunch and they had a lunch special of two slices and a drink for $5.99 so that is a really good deal. Service was friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. Great spot for NY/NJ style pizza pies. Very authentic taste and crust. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Inside is a bit dated and could use a little facelift but the food is great so it really isn't an issue. Service was good, all servers were great but again good food makes it all okay! read more

If you are looking for no frill, no dress up type of place, this is a place for you. The food is hot and good. It's not "oh my gosh it is amazing!" But more of a comfort Italian food. The takeout portions are laughable, especially for how much they charge. Ordered the cheese ravioli and side of meatballs. George's Pizzeria is formerly Amore's and was purchased recently by a new owner. It has been renamed and nothing in terms of the interior has changed and the pizza is pretty much the same as before. We got an order of Mozzarella sticks, antipasto salad and a large pepperoni pizza. All of the items were ok and nothing spectacular. However, for Wake Forest, the pizza is fairly good. I'm sure the new owner will change the menu and maybe update some of the decor. I'll admit being from NYC I'm a pizza snob, so my expectations are high. And, its difficult finding really good pizza here. George's however is fairly good and most would probably be satisfied with it like we were last night. read more

Recently moved to downtown WF. Love to support small local businesses for community prosperity. Ordered pizza through app (which was recommended by website) and opted for curb side. I received a text with time frame to expect delivery. Waited 10 min past the time in car before venturing in to inquiring. When entering the store I was greeted and complimented on the car I drive. I questioned if they honored curb side since it was on the website and I tipped accordingly. She stated, " oh yea". My review is based on the total experience from the inconsistency of the web site, casual response from employee but most importantly the quality or lack there of the pizza. The pizza was cold. We have been ordering from George's for a long time and loved the food. But the last few pizzas, and now the eggplant rollatini (it WAS a fave), The Worx Sub, and The Chicken Parm sub are a 2 out of 10. Terrible. No taste, the sauce has changed, and it looked bad (presentation) when I removed to cover (we ordered food to-go, not in restaurant). Everyone in the family agrees that these items, all of which we've ordered many times and loved, are different and NOT good. We live in downtown Wake Forest and want to see these businesses succeed, especially the few non-chain restaurants. We hate to say it, but we are done with ordering from Georges. I really hope "George" sees this and considers going back to the previous (and far superior) recipes, food brands, bread, level of service, and care that used to be put into everything we had ever tried on the menu. The following items are all things we've tried over the last 6 months. We've purchased food (to-go) often, hoping the quality issues were just an anomaly, but it isn't. Each of the items below were sub-par compared to what we've historically enjoyed from the same establishment. -Italian salad dressing -garlic knots (last 2 times- WAY overloaded with pre-minced garlic -from a jar) and too much olive oil, etc. -Pizza - crust not cooked consistently and last few times is not cooked enough -The Works Sub - just isn't as tasty and doesn't look as good either -Chicken Parm sub- same as above -Eggplant Rollatini (cheese on top was like a big glossy, glob of mozzarella that had either cooked too much before it got to us - or wasn't cooked right no flavor!-no seasoning, the sauce used to be the best part but not any more. -Chicken wings...not crispy, often extremely small wings, sauce just "ehhh" Come on George's Pizzeria...go back to the old ways. My husband and I went back for dinner tonight after trying their pizza over the weekend which we feel is the best in the area! Tonight we chose from the Tuesday specials, chicken francese and the chicken parmigiana. Outstanding! Extremely satisfied with our meals. This is now our to go to Italian restaurant. We were blown away by the service and quality of the food. It was extremely busy while we were there and the server hustled keeping an eye on us to be sure we were ok while handling the walk-ins for pick up. Both visits the servers were very attentive. Food is still great, don't get me wrong, good pizza but tonight was probably the break point - after ordering 2 pizzas and paying almost $60 for pizza and a drink I asked for a marinara side cup and was told it would be $2 extra per cup .. now I know everything comes at a cost, however at $60 for 2 pizzas and 2 beers, I am 100% confident in the markup in pizza that there was room to say "ok" to a side of marinara ... not a bad place, not bad food, just disagree with the approach. read more

No option for zero stars. Should have read the recent reviews. Went in here with my son tonight. The mozzarella sticks took a while but when they came out they were fine. My son ordered 2 butter pastas and those took a long time but when they came out they were also fine. Yes, 2 butter pastas is odd but he is picky eater and this is why he wants to come here. I ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich which after waiting a long time (over an hour) never came. I had to tell them to remove the sandwich from my check. Where has the service gone? Why did they not notice the only other occupied table got their food before me? Obviously, they did not care to make it right as they would have charged me for the sandwich. We found George's Pizzeria tonight. This is just my favorite sort of hole-in-the-wall little mom & pop Italian restaurant--a real throw-back to early La Foresta (if you know, you know). The prices are reasonable, the portions generous, and our food was delicious. Among the staff were a mom and two daughters. All three took care of us and were friendly and attentive. He got Chicken Marsala, a favorite dish of his, and said it was outstanding. He chose salad as his side (pasta is the other option). I'm not one to get enthusiastic over salad, but I had plate envy when it came out. Large, very fresh, super crisp, and the Italian dressing was very, very tasty. He decided that he would like some pasta as well as salad, and even though that wasn't on the menu as a separate item, they were cool with bringing him some. I think that was $4 or $5. I'm a fiend for eggplant so I chose Eggplant Rollatini. Standard nothing fancy, but quite good. My side was angel hair pasta with marinara, also very good. I wish I'd thought to ask for meat sauce like my husband did as I prefer it to marinara, but the marinara was bright and flavorful and I enjoyed it. Two hot, steamy, crisp rolls also came to the table with our orders. We shared a tiramisu. It was delicious but arrived semi-frozen which was the only thing that didn't entirely turn me on tonight. That and they don't have a liquor license--a glass of wine would have made the meal perfect. We will definitely be back. read more

I finally convinced my family to give this a go. They don't like change and when Pizza Amore became George's...they were done. A friend and I had lunch there recently and I realized this is the same GREAT pizza we were used to!!! I convinced the fam to try it with me and now we are regulars again!!! The service is so-so. We've had a great experience and a not-so-great experience. It's just a matter of communication, keeping those drinks filled and checking on us. My husband got a Philly cheesesteak and we were all disappointed for him. Very little meat, no side (not even potato chips) for $10+ AND it came out after our appetizer (garlic knots) which came out after our pizzas. The presentation of this cheesesteak could have been so much better! Suggestion: put a handful of potato chips (even original lays) on the plate, make it more appealing with open face with beautiful melty cheese on top.
