The worst Chinese food I've had in a while. I actually got sick from it. Their menu online is incorrect. They didn't have half the items I asked for even though they were on THEIR menu online. Also, the prices are wildly incorrect online. They seemed low but I didn't expect the prices to be over double what's online. Lastly they got my order wrong but I was like whatever. Dine in - Korean spicy squid and pickled cabbage with rib and frozen tofu. Total $53.xx, including tip. This is first time yelping, 3rd time here. This place has character, it's positives and negatives. We have high chinese food standards, and this spot is 5/5 authentic Chinese, specifically 东北 or northeastern Chinese food. We ordered the pot because pickled cabbage is unique to the region. The hot steamy broth with pickled cabbage, thin noodle (粉丝）,pork rib was perfect for a cold rainy day. E have no complaints about this one and glad we could truly authentic dish. Only gripe was the pork rib was not the most tender. The Korean squid was unique and was recommended by a friend. This dish had great presentation, coming out in a sizzling platter as you can appreciate the steam in my pic. Squid was overall good, but a bit hard to chew (similar to pork rib). And yes this is despite that squid is not supposed to be melt in your mouth. Good mixture of vege, heat, gochujang. Glad I tried this but probably would not order. Tea (free) was good too. Overall food 4.5/5. Service was alright. The lady (owner?) Took our orders and brought dish out to us. She did this while answering a phone that was ringing non stop and serving customers that were coming in for sit down and take out. Hat off to her. To top it off she spoke (seemed fluent) Korean, while for sure fluent in Chinese and English. Ambiance was what we expected. Total number of tables is countable on 2 hands. Small cramped area. This gives the feeling of China. The "feeling" of sitting down, if you can get a table, is stressful (that is, not a peaceful eating environment). Minus 1 for the price. We were handed a menu that was outdated and owner stated due to inflation actual price per dish up 1 to 3 dollars. We did not see this posted, even though we were told it was. While this is no issue, please do the customers a service and re-print the menu with updated prices. It may affect their decisions. Minus 1 for "gratuity" - on our bill she handwrote various tip %s with 18% being the lowest, up to 25%, and it was presented in a way we had to choose one. While service wasn't bad, writing the tip in in this manner gave us a feeling of choicelessness and an uneasy feeling. One other time I came Saturday 6pm ish and waited...2 hrs... for carry out order. You can imagine how I felt. We got complimentary dumplings but it was not worth picking up at 8pm. Don't let the name throw you off, as this place serve legit Chinese and Korean-Chinese food. Went here with my family and we ordered a slew of dishes. The highlights being the spicy squid, cumin lamb and spicy fish soup with pickled vegetables. The sweet/sour and mushu pork were pretty good. Probably not the best for a large group, but service was also quick and the staff was very pleasant. Will definitely be added to my family's rotation. read more

Another long-time resident on my bookmarks list bit the dust today! It has been lurking there longer than I can remember. It's close by, maybe three miles away, but I always seemed to end up somewhere else; maybe because I had an impression that a Chinese take-out place might not meet my usual expectations. But we've been studying the photos and reviews recently and, finally, I knew it had to happen. I was at a grocery store nearby and planned to call in my order as I left the store so that I could just pick up the order and go home. My great plan was thwarted, however, as I noticed the low battery for my phone. I completed my check out, Apple paid, and darted for the car seeing 3% battery. I loaded the groceries and quickly dialed Asian Express. A pleasant voice answered and...my phone died. Not the end of the world! I drove there in three minutes and went inside to order. It was set up with social distancing floor markings that are all too common but there was no line. Tables and chairs had been cleared and stacked up to one side indicating, currently, take out only. I stepped up to the order counter and told the young lady my well rehearsed order: House Special Mei Fun Noodles, Pork Dumplings Pan Fried, and Large Won Ton Soup! Actually, I was interrupted during my ordering a few times by call-in orders as it was quite busy. I paid and found a place to sit to wait for my order. Others came in to claim their call-in orders and another walk-in order was placed while I waited. After about 10-15 minutes, my food was up and I grabbed it along with some Fortune Cookies and headed home. My wife was starving by this time and asked me what took so long; I blamed my phone and quickly diverted her attention to the food. It worked! The Dumplings were OK, but the Won Ton Soup and House Special Mei Fun Noodles were both very delicious and I think we just became regulars here. Chicken was lacking in the pieces or it was dry, second they should taste the food before serving, fried rice was bland, this is the first time ever getting bland rice.. no egg in it either.... Delicious food! Their food is 10/10! From their steamed dumplings, Korean style spicy squid, Mongolian Beef, Eggplant with Garlic sauce and to Mapo tofu!! There is no failure with their menu!! Everything is delicious and the owners are so kind and caring! While it is located in a shopping plaza and the ambiance may need an upgrade, once you taste the food you forget everything and focus 100% on food. read more

If I could give this zero stars I would! The food was inedible, I ordered chicken lo mein dinner which was supposed to have fried rice and an egg roll and it did not, also ordered the Mushu pork which was supposed to come with pancakes, and it did not it's probably my fault for not checking the bag before I left the restaurant, but I don't think it was that hard to get the order right. Having said all that even the food that I tried when I got home was terrible and I threw it all out after two bites. The pork was absolutely all fat. The chicken didn't taste like chicken and everything else was just greasy. They also charged me double for the Mushu pork as it showed on their website online I do not recommend this place at all. read more

Shrimp pad Thai was for the most part just ok. The noodles were prepared well, so no complaints there. The shrimp itself was rubbery, and overall of a poor quality. The food tasted just ok, and there are definitely some better tasting Asian restaurants in the area. read more

It was going good till it wasn't. Girlfriend and I went there for dinner. Order our dinners, 2 extra egg rolls and a large soup. Well my sesame chicken dinner came out first which oh well. So ate a little this the soup and egg rolls came and we began eating that. 15-20 goes by and her dinner still hasn't came out. I go ask the guy if her bourbon chicken is still making it out and he began looking at all his receipts and realized he never wrote her meal down. So in the end we left with our her even getting a meal because they didn't even have the bourbon chicken to start with but was listed on menu. This place was amazing! A Hidden Gem that we will definitely be back to! It leans a little towards Northern Chinese cuisine. And as a little helper for any Chinese restaurant you're going to, always ask for the red menu or the Chinese menu if you're looking to truly authentic. You're welcome in advance. Very small but pretty accommodating. We of course ordered from the red menu and we're not disappointed at all. Every single part of our meal was Simply Delicious. And I must say that they have some of the tastiest soy soy sauce that I've had in a long time. Like I found their soy sauce addictive and I must know what they put in it! Or where they buy it from. On top of literally delicious food, the service and the hospitality was very friendly and very attentive. Huge portions too! This is the BEST Chinese place in the area. The food is great, service is awesome (owner is super friendly), and the VALUE in unbeatable. Large portions for an affordable price. Definitely recommend coming here. The only criticism I had is that their food can be a little too salty at times but depends on what entree you order. read more

I think the owner is Korean Chinese. All the cutlery and serving rice bowls were Korean style and there were several Korean foods in the menu. I overheard people talking in Korean behind the counter as well. We didn't order Korean style food this time but I could tell that their Korean dishes are pretty good. I had the best sweet and sour pork that I ever had in North America here. Cumin Beef dish was really good, too. The owner gave us some steamed dumplings on the house. I am a little bit scared of eating Chinese dumplings because it can be quite "swiney " sometimes. Their dumplings were very good and I see myself ordering it next time. Should have gone down the street a little further to another Chinese restaurant I've had and liked before but wanted to give this a try. Should have just known because it has express in the name it would be subpar. First they have no updated menu so almond chicken does not exist but you can order it on the phone and show up and get orange chicken? Very little understanding of any English which makes it difficult. No updated menu to hand to guests so they know what they do have. Won ton tastes off. White rice is white rice. Chicken is just awful and the crab Rangoon is pretty Americanized but the best part of my order. Idk disappointed, didn't even get a fortune cookie after having to take home the wrong food. I can't speak for any other type of food that Asian express serves because I am newer to town and just trying places around. read more

Definitely on the authentic side! Sometimes they are trying out new dishes, or accommodating traditional dishes that's not on menu - just ask! Yang Zhou Fried rice can use a tap more salt. Mongolian beef is a healthy blend of vegetables and meat. Meat tenderizer is on the heavy side. Sweet and sour pork (on Chinese menu) is good, breading is on the Korean side, flavorful over yet not over powering sauce. No food color or chunks of bell pepper as filler are big plus! Complementary hot Korean tea are always refilled on time. Small place gets crowded fast, arrive early for large part. read more

I haven't been hear in several years. When the restaurant originally opened, the food was good but then it changed hands and was horrible. Fast forward to 2023 and I decided to try them again. I order chicken friend rice to be safe and won ton soup. My rice tasted like dry fish with no good flavors and so dry you need a water chaser. My soup was just ok, it had weird flavors in it as well as some strange citrus essence which I've never experienced in won ton soup. I think we'll stick with Lemon Grass and look for a different take out Chinese place. Too bad Pearl Express closed their doors. We miss them. read more

I am horribly disappointed! I stopped by my favorite, lunch-time Chinese restaurant to pick up some dinner. My feast tonight would be a chicken egg roll, their yummy plain fried rice, vegetable LoMein and, the crowning glory, Boneless spareribs! I know, I know, hardly authentic Chinese but just what I wanted! I could hardly wait for those porky, fatty strips of meat in that neon red sauce! What I got was quite different! For more than $6.00, I was given a small container with a dozen strips of meat that didn't even account for a third of the container, the balance being composed of onion, celery, carrots and a Chinese Stock. It didn't even look like spareribs meat but a lean pork loin! I will probably keep lunching here but I won't order off the regular menu unless I've seen it first! read more

This review is strictly for the traditional Chinese menu that they have while dining in. I have been here a few times now and each time the food off of this menu was wonderful. The traditional menu is definitely not for everyone but if you are looking for good authentic style Chinese it was a exactly on point. The staff was extremely friendly and the food came out promptly. The price was more than reasonable for the portion size. The decor is lacking a bit, but it is to be expected for a small takeout location that primarily caters to locals with the standard American Chinese menu. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for traditional Northeastern Chinese food, I would especially recommend the fish soups and spiced pork. read more

Honestly, I've had good and just ok dishes from here. The first dish I ordered from here was sweet and sour chicken and it was great. I ordered the second time around of a noodle and beef dish and it was predominantly noodles. It was bland and not as good. The staff is friendly and they do treat you right.
