There's a lot of hype around Ping's and I kind of get it... but also have a really hard time giving it any more than 3 stars. I had friends raving about their experiences at Pings and especially how good the food was, adding the detail that the portion sizes are huge....I'll say the portion size comment is correct, but the rest is really quite subjective and seems to vary quite a bit from dish to dish. I got the Chicken Fried rice and the portion was gigantic; definitely enough for more than one meal! That aspect was great, but the food quality was just... meh. Fine for a very average Chinese takeout, but not deserving of all the accolades I'd heard about Ping's. In general, I think it's definitely worthwhile if you're willing to roll the dice and/or if you're ready to order a lot of options with a group and potentially have a few dishes that are just ok. read more

I have been living here for close to 20 years and I have Cussed, screamed got angry and just about wanted to kill Almost every Chinese place I went to. I had determined you just couldn't get any good Chinese in Rochester Hills but.... I was wrong! I have had the young chow fried rice 2 times now and it has been very good both times. I'm not tried any of the dishes but if you can do how special or young chow fried rice without Americanizing it (peas and carrots YUCK!!!),then you know what you're doing. I get the spicy shrimp with veggies but the green pepper is soooooo high it takes up most of the container or dish so I get it with no green pepper, no water chestnuts and add bamboo, which it doesn't come with, given it's suppose to me chinese veggies, without bamboo...really??? And when you alter your dish they give you such attitude you just want to leave. I got there around 8:15 pm and the door said the place close at 9:00 pm. I got my food pretty fast and it was pretty good. But at 8:43 pm (I was still in the middle of eating food) one of the staff told me "We are closed. So ever since Kims closed down in Troy I've been seeking a good Chinese restaurant with no luck . I've tried several, many lacked flavor or tasted like their fryer oil hadn't been changed in years. I ordered from here last night and happy I did. There is not much for decor. If your looking for ambiance this isn't the place but for carry out its great. I thought I'd try my staples: Almond chicken - great sauce! Chicken was also tender and not dried out. Sweet and sour chicken - great flavor as well they put the sauce on it to go so I may ask for extra next time. I also added some cucumbers to it when I got home. Egg rolls-yummy topped off by their plum sauce Rice- cooked perfect it's on the plain side I doctored it up a bit when I got home and added peas carrots Wonton soup- was good has some kale in it . I'm use to green onion in mine so I'll probably ask for that next time or grab some from the garden . Overall super happy to find a place that had quick friendly service . Thank you !! I give this place a solid 3.5/5 the food is abundant and the quality is good (all white meat) but I think there are better Chinese places in the area (CHENGS!) This place is great to get your 3lbs of greasy Chinese food! It was good and relatively inexpensive. Yes, there are a few small uncomfortable tables, but no servers. Yes, they will bring your carry out order to your table. But eating in here is hardly what you would call "dining." Yes, the food was good. I'd do take-out again if I lived closer. But only for carry-out. Don't plan on dining in a "dining room" with servers bringing you hot tea in a china cup. Not sure about the raving reviews current people are writing about, but since the New Year 2024, there are new people handling the restaurant. We order at least once a month and found our orders have been incorrect. We like to give new people the benefit of doubt and keep hoping for an improvement. But when brought to the staff's attention, they are rude and inconsiderate and wait time is inconsiderate for their mistake. Not even an apology. During the summer, we had the experience of waiting two hours for our order. We were told only 20 minutes. The steak did not taste like steak IMO. I usually order the Almond Chicken and never, ever had an issue. My bf ordered the Hot and Sour Soup. He complained that the soup was lacking heat (ordered medium) and overall taste. I'm not sure if they have new chefs, however, the quality of the food has gone downhill.
