Pozole (Soup Du Jour)
Bobby M.

Bottom line...skip this place! Run away! The service was absolutely horrendous! I ordered Pozole and a California Club Salad. That's all. No drinks. No one else with me. Not many people eating meals around me, just a few people drinking. It took over 20 minutes for my Pozole (Soup) to arrive and another 20 minutes after that for my salad! Are you kidding me!?!? Soup and a salad? ....40+ minutes?! The Pozole was just 'OK'...nothing special. It really had no flavor at all and VERY greasy, although the few chunks of pork were nice. Now, the salad....The "California Club"...Whoo Hoo! Sounds great, right? Yeah, not so much! When it arrived, some 45 minutes later after I ordered it, I just asked for it to go. It was small, very small. They spread it out in a big plastic container to make it look good. It didn't even have the avocado on it! Oh, and NO bacon! The "grilled chicken" was minimal. just a couple of pieces. Very little Goat cheese and almost no walnuts. When I got to my room and looked at it, I was so tempted to go back down and get a refund, but I was tired. At the table, I was so tempted to just leave it and walk away, but I was hungry. And get this, on my way back to my room, I ran into a friend of mine who was on his way down to get a salad too. I told him I got the California Club. I ran into him the next morning and he had waited so long to get his salad that he just left before it ever arrived. Just walked away....never saw his waiter (Quynci) either. Yes, the service (Waiter was Quynci) is pathetic! ...And the food. So, bottom line...skip this place.

Overcooked eggs gross

Gross. Came here for a quick breakfast before a work event. I guess I shouldn't expect much from a hotel restaurant but I didn't think it would be bad. Bad service with a waitress that would get mad if you request things. I got eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. My eggs were overcooked and not even poached. The sauce was runny and the hasbrowns were oily. Just not good. I should have went with my coworkers options of yogurt + fruit which seemed safer I'm surprised I didn't get sick . Yeah never again.

Alamo burger!

I didn't come here with high expectations being that the restaurant is inside a hotel, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised with my experience here! The decor makes it look like a higher end restaurant which threw me off since its in the hotel. It was very nice though, everything is new and modern. The menu wasn't too big, but I liked the choices that I saw. I will say that the entrees were all kind of pricey and since I'm currently on a budget, I settled for the Alamo burger because it was only $13. I ordered and the burger came out pretty fast which was awesome because I was starving. It was way bigger than I expected it to be. Totally worth the $13. The bacon was so crispy and there was even avocado on it... I wasn't expecting the avocado, I'm not sure if it was supposed to be on there, but I'm not complaining haha! I don't know what kind of bread the bun was, but it was different and really good! Really great meal. Great service too! Gregory was my server and he was very friendly and made sure my glass of water was never empty! Really convenient spot for me because I'm staying at the hotel and I didn't feel like walking or catching an uber anywhere. I will definitely eat here again when I'm staying at the hotel!

Chicken Quesadilla

This is only for the crabcake sandwich review which i though was just okay. I kept on tasting this fishy aftertaste that most good crabcakes dont have. I like the brioche bun and the side of fruit option instead of fries. It cleans your pallet. Co worker said her salsa for the quesadilla wasnt spicy enough. The burger according to my workmates was okay.

Came in late on a Friday night and we're seated with no wait or reservation. For apps, the goat cheese fondue got us started and OMG was that the perfect tangy and savory dip, with such soft and perfectly charred bread. The mix it up for you and it just blends together so beautifully, the goat cheese and all the olives. I got the rotisserie as I am a skeptic towards chicken and boy did they knock it out of the park. The slight lemon and char with the roasted garlic jus sauce was just mind blowing. Perfectly cooked chicken and great medley of veggies aside it. DONT FORGET THE WHISKEY CAKE!!! This is always the greatest part of the meal, just don't forget to leave space. This bouncy, salty and sweet, paired with a luscious vanilla ice cream upon request. Must have! Such a unique and stand out dessert... plus it's the only one on the menu!

It has become one of our regular stops thanks to its great atmosphere, delicious drinks, and consistently friendly service. On this visit, Shelby C. took excellent care of us and provided the attentive service we have come to expect. We arrived fairly close to closing time, and although no one ever said anything or made us feel unwelcome, we did feel a little pressure to finish our meal as the staff began cleaning and preparing tables around us. That was really more a matter of our timing than anything the restaurant did, and next time we'll simply make sure to arrive earlier. The other challenge was the significant road construction surrounding the area, which made getting into and out of the shopping center more difficult than usual. Again, that certainly wasn't the restaurant's fault, but it's something worth keeping in mind if construction is still underway when you visit. Regardless of those minor inconveniences, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The food and drinks were delicious, the atmosphere was as inviting as ever, and Shelby C.'s great service helped make it another enjoyable visit. Whiskey Cake continues to be one of our San Antonio favorites, and we already look forward to our next meal there when we're back in town.

Tonight's experience branched outside of the typical tour and tasting. Myself and one other *lone…read morestar* attended Whiskey Wednesday with Mike, where we spent most of the evening learning about proofing, bitters, and cocktail craftsmanship while enjoying several samples and an old fashioned along the way. Maverick Distillery is housed in the old Lockwood National Bank, the first bank in Texas to allow women to open accounts without a man's permission. Their money was stored inside barrels in the bank vault. Today the bank vault has been repurposed into a small rick house, where barrels hold a different kind of currency. (The rest of their barrels are offsite in a more traditional rick house.) Once we were done upstairs in the private bar, we made our way down to that vault where we thieved directly from a barrel. Maverick is one of several distilleries along the Riverwalk, but the others don't appear to have mid-week experiences, which is a shame. In this triple digit heat, the most effective sunscreen is sitting in a bar.

What really stood out was how they went above and beyond for the birthday girl in our group. She was able to choose a different tour drink than the rest of us, and they wrote "Happy Birthday" on both her whiskey flight paddle and the bag holding her whiskey glasses, personalized with her name. They truly made her feel special and celebrated. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable. I enjoyed learning about the history behind the name, the Mavericks, and the location itself. The Old Fashioned was excellent, and the whiskey flight was a great way to sample their offerings. The tour lasted about an hour, and afterward we were able to relax and spend some time at the bar. Overall, a fantastic experience from start to finish. Highly recommend!
