Cafe on right side as one enter library.
Victor G.

As Kneaded Cafe opened recently in a dedicated space that once hosted a cafe. It's on the right as one approaches San Leandro Library. Weather was warm, didn't have much of an appetite, just needed a brew to "wake up". Associates at counter quick to acknowledge my presence, took my order. It was ready in minutes. Small interior space with a service counter which had display shelves for edibles, breads, & pastries. At the right side is an outside patio with more seating. Plenty of parking in lot. Didn't hear any music when I was there. Merch, coffee beans, tea bags available for sale at left side of counter. Offerings: (drinks): coffee, tea, lemonade, espressos, (edibles): cookies, scones, croissants, sandwiches, fruit parfait, tea cakes, muffins, hand pies, breads. Think inventory rotates. Not everything seen on shelves. Sips: pour over (4) black, medium roast blend. -premade coffee poured from thermos. Initially slightly harsh. Mellowed over time. Consistent medium-ish, never bold. -haven't had this blend for awhile. Few cafes serve it. 4 stars Worthy! Service 5 stars. Quality: artisan coffee beans. Quantity: reasonable.

Citrus scone and brown butter rice crispy treat.

As a big fan of the As Kneaded Bakery, I was thrilled that they would take over the cafe spot in the San Leandro Library (which is conveniently much closer to my house than the bakery). I didn't attend during the opening day, knowing that there would be a lot of hoopla around it. But I have dined in two times during the first month. The first time, it was 11 AM on a Saturday with my wife. The parking lot was quite full, though we were able to find a spot. The cafe was very busy, with many people having an early lunch or a snack. The patio was full, mostly of families with children. We were able to find a small table inside to enjoy our drinks and pastries. I ordered a pineapple espresso tonic and a brown butter rice crispy treat, while she got a yuzu lemonade and a citrus scone. The rice crispy treat was very large, must I somehow managed to eat the entire thing. Young children might have difficulty eating it, as it's very thick. But very delicious. My second visit was 10 AM on a Monday. I was the only customer dining most of this visit, though many people came through to order to go. On this visit, I ordered a hot mocha and a chocolate chip cookie (vegan). The cookie is of the flat and chewy variety, and my food was served on plates and cups (not disposable). If there is a downside to this cafe, there are not many power outlets available to customers. The exterior wall is concrete, so only a few spots adjacent to the interior walls have access to wall outlets. This may be an issue on the weekends or after school (when kids are coming through the library). Otherwise, this is a great cafe. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the food is wonderful. I plan this to be my regular cafe hangout spot.

The fabulous owner, Iliana, greeted us at the register. I tried a drip coffee and vegan chocolate chip cookie. I love a good high quality cup of coffee and cookie, and that's exactly what I got. Will definitely return to try the compost cookie and some of the espresso drink. Love this cafe for San Leandro.

I love the bakery and the library- combining the two is amazing- I'm now looking forward to working in the library and taking breaks in the cafe. Latte was delicious and I'm very excited to be able to order the Aline sandwich whenever I want instead of waiting for it to be back on the bakery menu! The space is lovely and all the staff were nice. I usually don't go to restaurants in the first few weeks of opening, but made an exception and was glad I went!

Inside cafe

The food and ambience of this new cafe are fantastic. The bread for the sandwiches and treats come from the delicious As Kneaded Bakery. Lots of vegetarian options and kid friendly fare as well. The coffee and drinks are also great. Come check out this great addition to San Leandro dining options and you will be grateful.

Turkey sandwich with cheddar and apple was so delicious - felt like each ingredient was really amazing. I'll be back just for that.

After I finished shopping at Sprouts, I returned to my car and decided to go to Roccabs in person. I was still calling and still no one answered. I pulled up in front of the deli before 2pm and there were still patrons dining "inside" of the deli. I got out of my car and headed inside only to meet one of the employees as she was leaving and she smiled and said, "Im sorry we are closing now". I looked over at the two women who were sitting down and eating their lunch, as I was turned away. There were no hours posted on the door, and everyone behind the counter was literally standing around talking. I probably will not return based on the service. Not answering the phones, but your doors are open and you are serving patrons who were white and turning away people of color coming through the door, during normal business hours according to Google and no signs on the door indicating special hours today. All while turning away POC patrons on MLK day. Nope!!! Do better Roccab. You could have taken the time to post special hours and since you were in fact open, you could have answered the phones to let customers know you had special hours today or that you were Not open to the public. These are simple things to do. And it looks really awkward telling someone you are not open, when you have other people dining inside your establishment.

Stopped here real fast to grab lunch while at work and was not disappointed. Fresh bread. Fresh veggies. Right amount of cheese. Generous meat. Neatly packaged. Great staff. All things that make for a great deli! So many times we see things on yelp or online and take that chance to try them and end up disappointed- but this was NOT the case! If you're here on yelp and are scrolling by to see if this is your next lunch spot, take this as your sign that it absolutely is. This is my new favorite spot in SL!

We noticed two self-service ordering kiosks to the right but decided to check out the menu board and salad case first. When we were done, the cashier asked if she could take our order. That's always my preference over poking buttons on a impersonal screen. We placed our order, paid, and stood aside to wait. My name was called when our order was ready. It was bagged and ready to go. We thanked the cashier and went home. Normally, I'm not a sandwich guy. Today, after working outside in the sun, I was hungry and had a craving for something filling and cold. Macaroni Salad was on my mind. I looked that up on Yelp and Bara's was reasonably close. I also saw a Shrimp Salad that looked pretty good online. When we arrived home, I proceeded to take pictures of our meal. Sigh. Instead of Macaroni Salad, we got Potato Salad. Not quite the same. A quick peek at my receipt and I saw that the wrong key must have been pressed. I should have checked my receipt after I paid. The cashier should have repeated the order before sending it. The Potato Salad didn't satisfy my craving for Macaroni Salad, but I wasn't about to drive back to exchange it. The flavor was unique though, in that it had a cheesy flavor. The Shrimp Salad was not good. Flavor wise, it was okay with a little bit of heat. But texture wise, it was a mess. If Shrimp was supposed to be cooked for two minutes and then dropped into an ice bath, these had been cooked for four minutes and not iced. They were cooked to death. I got a Bay Area Special with Swiss. It was okay. A ton of meat, not so much on the veg. I would prefer more balance. But overall, it was pretty good. She got The Gobbler. She also felt that the meat overwhelmed the veg. Additionally, the cranberry sauce was overwhelmed by the cream cheese. We came, we saw, we ate. It'll be a long while before I go after another sandwich.

With most lots like this you can't be compelled to pay the tickets - only when the city issues tickets are they enforceable. The plaza is privately owned, and everything is leased out. So does San Leandro own it? Does the plaza owner think these meters are good for our city? I think the plaza owner will be happy to know that I am on the case and I've never lost a war in my life. I lose fights often, strategically, but never the grand scheme battles. Issues that affect my fellow citizens (like this) are a marathon, and I sprint through them. I promise these meters will be removed. If they refuse, I will demand an appropriate sacrifice from the plaza ownership. If the city somehow owns this plaza and installed these meters - Is San Leandro in need of our quarters that badly, and if so, why don't these even accept quarters? Only allowing electronic pay is certainly a decision. They probably expect us all to be robots in a few years and want to get their infrastructure ready to squeeze the oil out of us when that day comes. I used to get tickets in parking lots in Walnut Creek and would just tear them up. It never came back to haunt me. If I kept parking in those same lots I suppose they could eventually tow the car but I wouldn't give them the opportunity. I still like lowkey small businesses like this one, no frills or decorations, just show up for food. As far as sandwiches go I don't think this is my preference but they come across as very nice and consistent. Other people like this place, it seems. I don't like cold stack sandwiches unless some attention goes into the accents so I'm not the target audience here. The lady at the front was very friendly but this isn't really a sit down service place, they just give you the food.

Honestly probably one of the top 10 unique mocha's I have tried and it was delicious! I loved the burst of refreshing orange that complimented the chocolate. The flavors danced on my tastebuds like two separate flavors that blended together as one. Each holding their own note that added value to the drink making it unique. Was meeting up with a friend from Berkeley and he found this spot in between the both of us. Pros and cons! + The coffee - holy shit. Got a cortado. And drank it without sugar it was so good. A touch of bitter (it's coffee - duh!) but so smooth, almost nutty but buttery at the same time. + Got a chicken salad sandwich. It came stacked HIGH with hints of sweetness and curry. Freshest produce. Honestly, I was hungry but could only eat half of it, it was so big. + Friend got a warmed cinnamon bun. Incredible. Yeasty, chewy almost crisp on the outside but pillowy soft on the inside. + Wide open space inside -- high ceilings, one big central area. Not tucked away spaces -- which might or might not match your preference. + Perfect amount of coffeehouse buzz. Music playing lowish in the background and lots of conversations. Just enough to quell my ADHD tendencies. * Honestly can't think of any negatives. Prices are a bit high but happy to pay it for such a quality experience. I think my cortado was decently priced -- maybe $6 or so? Sandwich was $18 or so but done really well and came with a bowl of soup (chips, fruit, and something else was an option instead of soup, but tomato bisque with a sandwich? Divine.) - An hour away from where I live but if you live anywhere East Bay, my curse is your blessing ;-)

We were greeted and seated right away. Our order was taken in a timely manner. We ordered the Oxtail pho, banh mi xiu mai, bot chien, and an avocado smoothie. Our food came out pretty quick minus the bot chien which the server said usually takes awhile. Oxtail pho was as good as we remember. Oxtail was fall off the bone, actually, all the meats in the pho were very tender, which we love. Banh mi xiu mai was all right. I felt like something was missing, but I can't figure out what it is.
