Love their food, and they make mean drinks. Have a Manhattan their way, it hasn't disappointed me. Sit at the chef's table in back - the rest of the seating and decor is kind of off (which knocked the 5th star from this review). Went of a Monday and had their two pastas and a bottle of wine special. We also ordered some olives and a strawberry salad. Everything was good, pasta sauces had good flavor, but the red wine was a bit meh. One thing that really stood out was how dirty their windows are. I mean, dirty. Artusi did not deserve to be nearly empty during Happy Hour on the night recently of the Cap Hill Art Walk. Because it was lovely! Delightful cocktails at HH prices, and thoughtful dishes that were sheer treats: roast brussels sprouts chopped with Meyer lemon, oil and currants; fresh mozarella with grapefruit and a special honey... A warm welcome, perfect service, a window table for two...all delightful. Do not allow Artusi to be alone during Happy Hour- especially since they extend it to 7 pm! read more

Came in here for dinner and happy hour. One of our guest has a gluten allergy and the server didn't even blink when accommodating her. The service was good, the food was good, the place was spotless! I shall return. When you travel as much as I do, it's so reassuring to know you can eat some place, get great food and not have to worry about what is going on in the kitchen! read more

This review is based on the food as we didn't order drinks. We ordered 2 complete menus (2 entres, 2 first, 2 seconds and 2 deserts 120$) The pro: Excellent atmosphere, good service, nice location. The Cons: Overpriced dishes,most of the food was too salty, limited menu, weird American fusion dishes. The place is marked as Italian, while the food served is closer to "American Fusion" (Be aware if you care about authenticity). The place was busy, (Saturday 9pm) it took a while to be served but the service was very professional trying to accommodate our needs. (Good job!) What disappointed us was the food. The quality of the ingredients was high (Ex. extra virgin olive oil) but the cheff's creations was not our cup of tea. The entree we ordered, made of beets, yogurt, mint and granola is a good example that represent the entire menu. This combination, while truly challenge the assumptions and expectations of the client, results into a dish where each ingredient, compete in taste with each other leaving the customer, surprised for the unexpected dish but after the fist bite, eyebrows arise for the "weird" taste. I would suggest this place for a date, maybe a drink but no order food. read more

Stick with the cocktails at this attractive bar. The entrees were very expensive considering the meager portions, and the quality varied widely. Presentation and taste for the brisket and the risotto were more like mom's dinner line and less like a stylish restaurant. The cherry panzanella sounded better on the menu than it translated on the plate. If you decide to splurge on an entree (and it IS a splurge, even the large portion was not generous), get the tonarelli, which was toothsome, delicate and rich. We also enjoyed the trout salad, perfectly dressed. Overall, I think this spot has been overhyped, based on our experience. read more

Great service. We took advantage of the half price bottles of wine on Sunday and had the bar tender pick out a bottle for us. They carry some obscure varietals so it helped having her input. We had the flax seed crackers with tuna. It was warm and delicious. Way better then I thought it would be. And then I ordered the best beet salad I've ever had. It was novel in that they sliced the beet, filled it with an anchovy cheese mixture, put it back together then rolled it in walnuts and garnished. So good. My fiancé had the rabbit pasta. He said it was good but he was still hungry. He is also the guy who eats 6 tacos when we go to Mexican. The serving was smaller then what I would expect but it also was priced lower then a large plate at other caphill restaurants. read more

the food is excellent, one of the better italian influenced delights in the city. my only complaint is pretty simple: the SO and i were looking for a more reasonable option for going out on a night when we were originally planning to stay in to save some money. we had trouble basing our decision off of the district's food and knowing that we wanted a bottle of red wine we used the cheapest "house red" approach. artusi has (had?) a $27 bottle on their website but unfortunately this was too good to be true and we inevitably ended up paying ~$40 for our bottle. the quality of the restaurant is enough to justify a "hump day" treat but being lead astray is simply off-putting... read more

We were sent over here by the Hostess at Spinasse, next door. We were seated immediatedly at the back bar. Waited 10 minutes for someone to take a drink order and the drinks still had not come 10 minutes later. Only one bartender for 40 people and a somewhat terse and unapologetic waiter, "Well, I don't do the staffing." We left, still no drinks. read more

This place isn't very good. It is the kind of place that people go when they think they are being classy and want to talk about tannins. The end result is a place that is much more stuck up than it has license being. They also have essentially no beer. Lame. I don't know why anybody would ever voluntarily come here. The seating was horrible for groups as well. They have I think one table that seats more than 2 people. I won't be back. read more

This place is phenomenal! We were hoping to eat at Cafe Spinasse (an eternal favorite) and there were no tables to be had for 45 minutes to an hour. The host suggested we have a drink at Artusi. We went in, sat at the kitchen bar, and holy crap! The food was outstanding! And watching these two pros do their magic was incredible. We talked to one of them quite a bit and asked a lot of questions about the food (her name is Katie, I'm pretty sure). It ended up being the perfect evening for us. You gotta try this place. And don't sit at a table or the main bar. Sit in the back, watch the action, and learn a thing or two about cooking -- or at least appreciate how much work goes into it. Before the end of the summer, we'll be back there at least twice. Great food, ambiance, drinks, and everything; but the fifth star is for the experience. read more

Was visiting from LA waiting for my table at Spinasse and had one of the best cocktails I've ever had- an Italian version of a Manhattan with Fernet Branca. The bartender made it for me after I asked him if he had any cocktails involving Fernet in his back pocket... I only wish I could remember the name of the cocktail so I could ask for it more often! Got to love an Italian spot that actually uses Fernet. read more

Great meal here last night. We were a group of four, seems like 2-4 is the ideal number for this place based on table and portion sizes (if you're doing family style -- which we did and loved). Ambiance is chic but not snobbish, dim lighting (a too-rare find in Seattle!), and energetic but not noisy. The food was divine. Standouts were the pork bruschetta, rabbit tagliatelle, and, probably the crowning achievement, the venison risotto. Not inexpensive, but not horrifying by any means. Delicious wines by the glass. My husband and I were looking for a place to have dinner on Capitol Hill, and this turned out to be a great choice. The staff was friendly and the food was excellent. We both ordered cocktails from the menu, but my husband's drink turned out not to be available after all. No problem...they ended up making him something custom that was delicious. At first I was worried that the menu seemed a bit limited, but actually we ended up with quite a bit of food by trying a couple of the appetizers and then each ordering a different entree. We even ordered dessert, something which we usually don't do but we couldn't resist the house-made gelato (it was ay-MAY-zing). I would actually give this place 5 stars, but it was a little loud in the small space and hard for my husband and I to hear each other. Still, I would go back. read more

WONDERFUL VALENTINE'S DINNER - We chose Artusi for our Valentine's dinner and were delighted. The prix fixe menu had sounded wonderful, and Artusi delivered the goods. We were seated at a nice corner table and chose to have the wine pairings with our meal. All of the dishes: Braised octopus bruschetta with spicy tomato conserva; Little gem salad with roasted shallot vinaigrette, prosciutto and parmigiana; Roasted lamb shoulder casoncelli (stuffed pasta) with resting jus; Duck leg confit with duck sausage braised beans; and, Dark chocolate cake with dolce di latte frosting and sesame gelato were spot on wonderful. The Casoncelli was particularly noteworthy, rich lamb in light delicate pasta in a wonderful lamb,sage and butter pan jus. Two of the wine pairings were noteworthy, a pinot bianco with the octopus and a Sicilia bianco with the salad, the others were serviceable but not outstanding. Service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We finished the evening with two excellent grappas from from sister restaurant, Spinasse. The chardonnay besting the moscato with its complex flavors and clean finish. A wonderful Valentines. Thanks, Artusi! read more

walked right in and found a table on a rainy friday night .. we wanted to grab some small bites to eat as well but their menu did not really appeal to us so we stuck to the drinks .. I ordered the Averna Smash - Knob Creek bourbon, Averna, walnut oil, muddled Amerena cherry & orange, & Fever Tree Bitter Lemon Soda which was my favorite drink of the evening .. My wife had the "We'll do it for Johnny" Bulleit Bourbon, Cherry Balsamico, lime, salt & Rhubarb bitters which she enjoyed as well .. Service was a bit strange since our server got us the check after a couple of drinks when we actually wanted to keep the tab open .. For some strange reason he also thought that we had a reservation next door at Spinasse .. We actually asked them if they could serve us food from spinasse kitchen but that idea was shot down .. We also ordered the watermelon pudding which sesame and basil which was not overly sweet but scored high points on creativity with the textural combinations.. Overall, drinks were quite strong and quite served the purpose for the evening that we wanted to hit the happy state .. I'll go back only if they get more creative with their food read more

Since the word "wow" is a palindrome, I'm going to use it for this review in reverse as in "Wow..I was underwhelmed!". Had a date night with the wife and we chose to come here intrigued and excited by the "spirit" of the cuisine as described on their website-- "...exploring roots of Italy's cuisine, etc." In the end, the "roots" led nowhere; my spirit wasn't moved especially given what we spent here (over $100) for what amounted to a less than impressive overall quality/value of the drinks and food. We started with the formaggio apps, and for dinner I had the braised pork and my wife had the rabbit. The pork's sauce was mostly salty, didn't have any side dish, and presentation-wise, it was just a lonely lump of pork covered with some grayish sauce in a vast sea of white plate--looked like prison food. The rabbit was slightly better but it just had a couple of carrots with it and both dishes were small-ish servings. Either the "roots of Italy's cuisine" are just too esoteric for me to appreciate or I just didn't get the joke. I'm food literate enough to know the difference between food with subtle but sublime flavors and those that are just insipid with "no there there." Anyway, I'm pushing this rating to 2.5 and most of it for the friendly service from the waitstaff and the bartender. Next time we dine, this place won't be on our radar (hey! another palindrome :-) read more

everyone that knows me knows that my favourite nosh spot in seatown is spinasse, home of the best homemade pasta you can get after the sun goes down (the sun's still up, you say? then head directly to mike easton's il corvo). however, what spinasse lacks in its cocktail menu, siamese sister venture artusi more than makes up for next door. perusing the artusi menu, it's hard to miss the heavy-handed application of amaros throughout their speciality cocktail list (not that there's anything wrong with that). what did surprise me, though, was the caliber of dishes there as well. while beets and tuna may sound like an odd pair, their baby beets with salsa tonnata was set on repeat at our table, and the promise of tripe with bone marrow and local black truffles set my hopes ablaze. now maybe i've been spoiled little girl, but after great marrow experiences at st. john and holeman & finch, what showed up at artusi was less than upbeat, and most dismaying, it was sans bone. i guess we can't be good at everything, can we?? read more
