I would give them 4.5 stars, but that's not an option in the ratings. I used this company 5 times in the past 6 mos...my wife and I each moved from our apartments, we moved out of our apartment and into storage (which they offer at a great deal), and then finally again to our new place. These guys are professional movers. Their job is to pick something up, wrap the bejesus out of it with a roll of tape (even if it's just a tea cup mind you), and then load it up, unload and unwrap. They move quickly, they don't talk, and they just execute the job. That's why they're called movers. Now for the finer details: are they gently with the boxes? As with all movers, this is a hit or miss. They don't drop boxes, but they do assume you packaged them carefully. Your extremely fragile items I would leave for you to move yourself - doesn't take a genius to figure that one out. They handled my LCD TV no problem, wrapping it in blanket and cardboard to protect screen. When they disassembled my bed and moved the long posts, they were careful not to bang into walls. They were considerate with our lamps as well. Another reviewer mentioned they tracked dirt into her apartment. Give these guys a break - they are there to move and then move FAST. They not gonna wipe their feet every time they enter your place. You're SOL if it rains and you live in a cattle ranch with any mover!!! Garnett was my point man when it cAme to scheduling with them. Professional, explained everything in detail including charges and breakdown (by hour and minimum). Let's be honest here...we all tend to underestimate the move when we tell them what we actually have. They are on a right schedule and need to coordinate with other moves for the day. So be honest with how much garbage you want them to lug around. You're not saving yourself a dime when you not honest. Garnett went above and beyond for me when I needed to get my stuff out of their storage and into my new place (with two days notice)!!! I will always appreciate that and I can say everything was inventoried properly and returned without a problem!!!! Can't complain about that. I must comment that there was this one mover, a large guy who literally looked like Stelio Kontos from the cartoon American Dad. He must have been 6'6" or something. Real pleasant guy,very friendly and nice. He needed to use the bathroom so I let him - must have splashed urine all over the place. The residue smelled strong of uric acid/nitrogen by-products. Would really lead me to believe this guy needs to get his kidneys checked out...unless he's snacking on plant fertilizer between moves! You need a mover? These guys will get the job done....and they're reasonably priced!! They need to make a living too - give them a break cheapo!!! read more

Highly recommended. Helped us move from a 2BR to another apartment in the city and will definitely use them for our next move. We had them pack, but not unpack our belongings. Everything was packed carefully and arrived undamaged. The night before, my wife and I panicked about them being able to get everything done in one day. My office did 2 moves with Arthur Werner and both of them went very well. They were the most pleasant moving experiences I've ever had actually. So when it came time for my personal move I called them for a quote. I've had bad experiences with movers in the past, not being gentle with my stuff, charging me 2x as much as the quote etc. etc. This is a very professional company with trustworthy and pleasant people both on the phone and actually doing the moves. I was shocked at how fast they completed the move and the total cost at the end was actually less than the quote since they were so fast. Finding a mover in NYC is extremely difficult and I highly recommend to use this one. It is not the cheap-est but they are fair and with all the extras and shady business that goes on with a lot of these companies it is likely to cost you about the same in the end. And you also won't have to worry about your stuff being ruined. read more

I'd used Arthur Werner twice and was always pleased. Not so this time. I had an upcoming move booked, in less than two weeks, and was just called advising me of an additional $450 charge. This was never discussed at the time of the booking and, although the representative admitted numerous time that it was his mistake, he would not assume any of the additional financial burden. He acknowledged that I was a "repeat customer" but would not budge. As a result I just retained another mover, which I was lucky to get at this late date. It's clearly not so much about the money but the manner in which this was handled. Calling me less than two weeks before my scheduled move, which had been booked over one month ago by the way, acknowledging it was their mistake but not making any effort to even split the difference with me, was extremely poor customer service. I've used Arthur Werner twice and they are by far the best movers I've ever worked with... and I've moved 5+ times in the last 10 years. Professional, great at their jobs, personable and trustworthy. I found them after doing research online for eco-friendly moving companies... they provide reusable plastic crates instead of cardboard boxes, which make the moving process so much more pleasant. The company drops off the crates 7-10 days before your move, and they sit neatly stacked both when they're empty, and after you've filled them... minimizing the chaos in your home. Even better, after you unpack the crates -- Arthur Werner comes and picks them up, and you don't have to break down any cardboard boxes! I can't emphasize how nice this is. Everyone you interact with at the company is personable and professional, from the person who answers the phones, to the person who comes out to give you a (free) estimate, to the movers themselves. Our latest move took 7.5 hours instead of the 9 they'd estimated, so we saved some money. And the crew was so awesome -- when we got to our new apartment, the landlord had left a pile of furniture and trash on the curb (a welcome gift, I guess?!), and the crew simply moved it aside to create a path for themselves without complaint. Total pros. This is a great company! I'd use them again in a heartbeat. (By the way -- the previous reviewer says you have to pay them for unused hours... this is not true. They provide a "worst case" estimate and then if the crew gets the job done in fewer hours -- which ours did- -- then you only pay for the actual hours used. Don't be fooled - this company will rip you off! They make you book for a set number of hours based on the items you tell them you have. They totally inflate the number of hours you'll need. They charge you for these hours even if you don't use them. It is a huge scam! They told me that I'd need 6 hours. I only had 1 bedroom's worth of stuff to move and told the representative that I'd have everything boxed up and ready to go. They insisted that it would take 6 hours. The two guys who did my move had everything wrapped and fully moved within 1.5 hours. When it came time to pay (they only take cash), they said that they had to charge me for a minimum of 4 hours. I pointed out that I only used 1.5 hours. They said that they I had booked for 6 hours so they had to charge me for at least 4. It made no sense. I asked them to call management, but it was Sunday and nobody was there. I ended up giving them the cash for the 4 hours plus a tip - which came to over $600. It was ridiculous. I will say that the guys who did the move were very nice and helpful. They told me that the company had overcharged me and apologized twice that they weren't authorized to give me a refund. They did a fine job and all of my stuff was moved without incident, but it their scam of making people book more hours than they need is ridiculous. They also tracked a bunch of dirt into my apartments and didn't bother to wipe up after themselves. They should really put down a blanket or plastic sheet if their shoes are dirty. I first used Arthur Werner 6 years ago for a move from one apartment in NYC to another and they were fine. 4 years ago, we sold our house and had them move most of the contents into storage. They told us our stuff would be in the Bronx and easily accessible. LIE. They were stored in Bridgeport CT; they were supposed to be in a weather-controlled environment, but they were not. We then had them move our apartment 3 blocks. We waited in our new apartment for them...they finally arrived about an 1 1/2 hours later (assume they ate lunch). This crew was not careful with our belongings. Our plants were beaten up. Then they had the audacity to charge us more than what was stated--and I was stupid enough to pay. Why should I pay for them to dick around? We just moved from the City to Plymouth MA. We hired Flatrate and they were fine. 2 weeks ago, we had Flatrate move our stuff out of storage and into our house. The furniture is a mess. Mold, scratches, dirty. They didn't wrap a carpet and had it standing up, so it is wrinkled. Upholstered furniture has deep wrinkles, is dirty and moldy. Things like a standing fan and a table were broken. Did I mention mold? The difference between AW and Flatrate is immense. First, AW gives you a bogus estimate and then they change the price. Flatrate gives you the price and it is set. AW movers are sloppy and careless. Flatrate hadgreat movers who went out of there way to ensure our huge houseplants would be safe. They were careful and friendly. In a million years I wouldn't recommend AW. BTW...I did ask for a quote on storage stuff and the salesperson, Garnet, gave me vague prices on the phone with no follow up in writing. Terrible company. They will be hearing from me about my damaged furniture. read more

I suggest you do NOT use Arthur Werner when moving because.. They cannot even handle a small moving. I only had 4 furniture and 4 boxes to move but they damanged the sofa. Two 2-3 inches red marks on the sofa and I have to replace the cover, which cost about $200. I sleep on that sofa occationally and I know that the damange was not there before moving. The damaged areas were wet. This tells me that they damanged the sofa somehow during the moving and tried to clean it (the damanged area smelled like bleach). When I complained, the foreman named Benjamin told me that it is NOT their responsibility because he worked more than 10 years and the blanket that covered the sofa was not wet. Oh wow, then the sofa must have damaged itself so it's my responsibility? When you cannot find a visible evidence of the damange that was not there before, then is it not their fault? It's obvious that it was damanged during moving and Benjamin strongly claimed he's not responsible for the damage. He called his manager (his uncle) about my complain and the only thing he said was how he is not responsible for the damange because of this and that. Instead, he told me the claim department of the company will call me on that day to inspect the issue- and see if I can get the refund or not. So, I ended up paying the everything, expceting to get the phone call from the claim department. I never received any calls after. I paid $775 + tip for moving from White Plains to NYC, which was higher than other companies (The tip was for other guys besides Benjamin). I chose Arthur Werner because they were on BBB and found a decent comment on city-data forum. And I learned that they not only cannot handle a small move, they don't care about the damage on customer's furniture. Also, I shouldn't have paid the full-price- now they got my money they don't care about it anymore. read more

This review is 10 years over due. What lead to it is a friend in NYC asking if I knew a good mover, it reminded me of Arthur Werner movers and the experience I had with them moving us from NYC to LA. It was a good sign when they showed up on time. They were very professional, first assessing what needed to be moved and in what order. After that it was like watching a military operation in action. Everything was packed tight and padded in the truck, I know cause I checked. Then they stored everything somewhere until our new home was ready in LA. All it took was one phone call and 7 days later they were moving everything in to our new home. Moving is a stressful situation, but the people at the back office were always reachable and helpful, the price was fair, and the moving crew the best I've ever experienced. They really took the edge off the whole deal. I now know why my friend had recommended them so highly and why I'm recommending them 10 years later. read more

I almost don't have words to express how amazing Arthur Werner Moving is. I started out with a visit from Denzil who managed every aspect of the move from estimate to delivery. This was a residential 3-way move...from one location to 3 locations in 3 different states. He paid attention to every detail, was in full communication every step of the way. And each time I changed my mind about something, he gracefully pivoted and accommodated me. The crew he sent, led by Ken, was friendly and careful and totally capable in dealing with the chaos. And when I couldn't fit everything in the new apartment, they came back on a moment's notice to take things to storage for me. Out of everything that moved, one candlestick broke. That's it. That's miraculous! Out of so much art, antiques, antique crystal chandeliers...one little candlestick broke. My sister used them 2 years ago...recommended them to me. She's using them again this summer and I'll use them again next January. I wouldn't use anyone else. And I suggest you don't either. read more

I use the company 3 years ago for a move 3 blocks away in midtown East and they did such an amazing job that we decided to move our stored valuable furniture and carpets from a climate control storage to their storage. They claimed that the storage is in the Bronx and climate control but it was in CT. We hired them again to move from our Apartment to LIs this year. This time around they lost many pieces of our stored furniture and our carpets were damaged due to bad storage. They also charged us extra money the day of the move with no explanation. The move required 2 days packing and a move the 3rd day early morning. The project manager threatened us that he will cancel the move after he had our furniture in his warehouse when we asked to keep our sofa in our living room the day before the move since they wanted to leave us just with the bed's mattress the night before the move and we have a 3 years old. Did I say that the move cost us $10k and we were quoted $7600 2 months before the move, $8700 a week before the move leaving us no room to find another moving company in the middle of COVID Pandemic, then $10,000+ the day of the move!! Pls be aware and make sure you don't fall into the same trap. When I called to complain they send me a claim form that says you get almost nothing given the insurance coverage. A real shame! We are moving and the price they quoted us, which includes the move from the old place and to the new place with storage in between was very reasonable. We had some outrageous quotes and one guy kept harassing us about how it was 'two moves' I digress. The movers were there on time, Aaron was our foreman. The men were gentle and despite our harassing them( well my mother and I did most of harassing, hubby paid us no mind) about the elevator wt limit. They were consummate professionals. Hi all, just wanted to share a bad experience we had with Arthur Werner Moving company.We had them pack and move us a few weeks ago and paid a significantly higher cost for the packing. While they were packing/moving us they caused some large holes in our rental apt walls. We tipped the movers almost $700 (20%) and once we looked at our things realized our tv (unpacked by the movers) had a large crack across the front- and was broken, and my husband's $400 camera that was new and in the box, was missing. We spoke to Denzil at the company and while initially extremely responsive and apologetic, they have since done nothing despite my repeated calls and emails. Although we only got the basic insurance, they had emailed us to please fill out a claim b/c they would take care of us and they were so horrified that this happened. Yet every day I am told the "owner will call me tomorrow". They told me that they depend on reviews for business b/c they don't advertise so I felt I should tell our story for those looking for a mover. read more

First of all I have to say Gloria, the estimator was very professional, eager to get the job and very reasonable. They guaranteed the price they quoted and thats what we paid for. The 5 guys that moved us did an excellent job. They came on time with 2 big trucks, started immediately wrapping our furnitures with cloth wrap and tapes and finished on time as they had predicted. The men were professional, courteous, eager to work ,did their job with a smile and worked their ass off (excuse my french!) on an 80 degree day!! Howard, the team leader deserves special mention for setting the tone. My husband and I were wowed by how they moved our 4-bedroom furnitures, including 2 pianos and all and 34 steps to the 2nd floor!! I highly recommend the company and will definitely use them again. Asked them for a quote for a move from Connecticut to Florida based upon a friend's reccomendation. Estimator, supposedly president of the company comes out looks over the job and says he'll have a quote for us in a day or two. Note time is of the essence, it is the first of the month and we need to be out at the end of the month. Three days later no quote. Call company and no one has any information about our move, call the president/estimator directly, he says you'll hear by the close of business. Next day still no response either from the boss or the company leave messages. No response. Hey, if you don't want the job say so, don't leave the customer hanging. Very unprofessional read more

I have used Arthur Werner 8 times so far(both locally and long distance), and I can honestly say I have never had even one tiny issue. Actually, they have exceeded my expectations each and every time. The movers are professional, the rates are competitive, these guys don't waste time, and treat your items as if they were their own. I have also used their storage recently for our last move while we were showing our house to sell. Every single item that we got back was exactly as it was when we packed it. Heck - one of the movers actually helped me figure the placement of furniture in our new home - he has a much better eye than I do, apparently. Our family has moved 3 times in 4 years. Crazy? Yes. Painful? Yes. We had problems with the first two movers (Big John's and Seamen's) but this isn't about them... My husband tried to do a bit more research before this move but we figured we'd have problems with the movers no matter what. HOWEVER, we REALLY lucked out with Arthur Werner and Rigo's team in particular. They were professional, friendly, clean, careful, neat.... The first day they packed for us - lots of stemware, art, piano etc. The second day they moved us from our 3rd floor walk-up to a doorman building. They did a great job, appearing on time, finishing on time and never complaining about anything. Also, the other reviews don't mention the company uses 'eco-crates' which are much more user-friendly than cardboard boxes. They stack well and you don't have to break them down and drag them to the trash area later - you just empty them and stack them and the company comes to pick them up when you're done! So, please consider Arthur Werner for your next move! BTW, price was competitive with the others! read more

Absolutely terrible. Did not show up for the estimate. When I called them 10-15 minutes after the appointment time they said I was on the schedule. I was then informed 20 minutes later that the owner was no longer coming because he had a previous dentist appointment. I made my appointment a week prior and called two days prior to confirm. There was no alternative. If they can't show up for the estimate.....would never use them or recommend them. If I could give 0 stars I would. read more

I cannot say enough good about these guys! I have multiple family heirlooms and antiques and told them at the beginning that these items HAD to have special care. They treated EVERYTHING as if it required special care. They were quick and efficient, professional and nice people. People on the street saw how they were treating my things, and asked for their card. They were careful in their packing and in their unpacking. They even succeeded in putting many things back where I'd had them. My new second-floor apartment has very steep, very narrow stairs to get in. They got heavy, large pieces of furniture up those stairs without any damage to my furniture or the stairs. These guys were nothing less than amazing! These guys were great. We just used them (from a recommendation by a friend) to have them pack us up and move into our larger digs. We moved from a 4th floor walk up into an elevator building and they moved like clockwork - and not a single thing broken or dinged. Very friendly and nice. We actually came under our estimate and they were very fair with pricing. Easy breezy move thanks to Arthur Werner-they were fantastic! I did a green/eco friendly move with them from a 1 bedroom. I got 3 quotes and Arthur Werner negotiated with me to be the lowest quote. The plastic bins they offer for a "green move" were great. Super convenient and clean!! I packed it all up myself and when it came time for movers, they were fast and professional, taking care of all my belongings. My sofa almost didn't fit through my new apt. door and these guys hustled and problem solved to make it happen. The job took less time than quoted so when it came time to pay, it was less than quoted. And 10 days later they picked up the "green" bins. Pickup and Drop-Off on the bins was scheduled easily to my convenience. I found Arthur Werner because of a friend's recommendation and I would happily recommend them to anyone.
