I price-compared a ton of NYC moving companies and J & G gave me a competitive moving quote. Additionally, the building I was moving into required a certificate of insurance (COI) and J & G was able to offer it for me for free. A lot of other companies charge for this. Before moving, I communicated with them via email and they always responded promptly and were very clear about what their moving package included. The day of the move, they called and asked if it was okay if they came an hour early. They were very communicative with me during the whole move. The lead guy (forgot his name!) assessed how many things I had and then discussed with the other 2 men on how to efficiently approach the move. The 3 men were over 6' tall and strong, and they were able to finish my whole move in a little more than 1 hr! I did not have anything that was easily breakable but the men treated my things with care. They provided blanket and shrink wrapping for all of my furniture. Everything was loaded up into their truck very quickly. These guys wasted no time. When I arrived at my new apartment building, they had already started unloading my things. I had my boxes labeled with what was inside (i.e., kitchen supplies, shoes, jackets) and they actually placed each box in the corresponding room. Best of all, there were no hidden fees. They ended up not charging me a processing fee that was included in the quote and gave me $40 off my quoted price. The movers were so friendly, communicative and professional, I will definitely be using J & G Moving again! I also wanted to note that on the day of my move, the street I was moving from was blocked due to construction. J & G movers did not complain or make any mention of that until I had stepped outside of my apartment building and noticed it. If we moved out in the middle of the month, would we get a prorated refund for the days we didn't use? The employee said yes. Based on that answer, we paid for another full month (around $600) instead of just moving out at the end of the month, which was our original plan. We moved out mid-month. Then, surprise, "no refunds." I asked them to check the call logs. That's when it got worse. The manager got on the phone and I could hear him yelling in the background, apparently at his employees. He kept telling me he "didn't know" what was discussed on the original call because he had been on vacation, while he was looking at the logs in front of him. No ownership. No concern that his own staff had given out false information. No effort to fix it. I'm out money for days I never used, purely because I believed what their employee told me on the phone. Bottom line for future customers: the people at the counter and on the phone may tell you one thing, and management will later deny it and keep your money. Get every quote, every policy, every promise in writing before you hand them a dollar. You've been warned.
