Had a nice lunch at this new cafe in Old Town Pasadena with some very interesting and unique menu items. Their salads are super fresh and delicious, staff very friendly and eager, and the vibes are relaxed and chic in a great location. Walking in, we were immediately drawn to their numerous pastry and savory food cabinets with artfully made items - the food presentation here definitely puts the art in Art Lunch! Even their cinnamon rolls were voluptuous masterpieces! Their menu has a wide variety of standard and not-so-standard options. Art Lunch is the largest chain in Armenia with branches across Russia and Ukraine as well - so they have lots of interesting menu items that reflect the diverse cultures across those countries, as well as Americanized choices too - something for everyone. They've been around in the East since 2002, but this looks to be their first US based location and has been open for about a month. For our lunches, hubby and I both chose the salad & pie combo. Hubby got the Greek salad with chicken pie and I got the Caesar salad with beef pie. The salads were incredible!! All the veggies were super fresh and vivid in color with a great balance of flavorful dressings. Both of the pies had great flavor - but I had to knock off a star bc they're quite dry unfortunately. And they served them cold which was very strange to me - not sure if they meant to? The meat pies definitely would've been much better served as a hot dish. I would consider ordering them again bc, as I said, the flavor was excellent - I'd just be sure to ask for them warmed at least. The presentation of all their sweet pastries was so beautiful that we couldn't resist stocking up on some for our dessert over the weekend. We took home a couple of cupcakes, a blueberry/curd pastry, and a jalapeño cheese puff. They also have this strikingly unique, long, beautiful cake displayed next to the cash register that they sell in inches - so of course we had to grab a slice of that haha! I'm not sure what the name of that particular cake is but it has a light cream and raspberry jam inside and is topped with a crisp meringue and it's just fantastic- we loved it! The blueberry and curd pastry is also heavenly. Their cupcakes have been moist even over the past 2 days and they have a wonderful flavor - so far we tried the strawberry and cream cupcake and it was excellent. Their prices are a bit high on average, but that's not unusual for the Old Town Pasadena area. Their portions are normal on the lunches but their dessert pastries are quite large. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The staff were all very welcoming and attentive - great service here. Old Town is a great area - Art Lunch has huge windows with views of the bustling area from all their tables - it's very clean inside and conducive to a relaxing meal. Parking is mostly in the garages around Old Town but there is limited street parking in the area too - and it's all very walkable. read more

Came for a Pastries Too Good To Go order and I got a beef empanada, some kind of spinach pastry, and a sweet pastry with an Apple pie filling. The beef empanada was a bit dry, I think it'd be good if it was cooked in some kind of sauce. The spinach pastry was interesting. The apple pie filling thing was good, very cinnamony but in a good way. I didn't care for the breaded part outside but it was cool to try. I may come back to try their other menu items. read more

Party of six super satisfied with pastries and coffee. I had the option of the vegan bowl or the wrap. The wrap was super fresh, crisp lettuce and veggies. saw a post about this place on Instagram and decided to try it. I ordered the tomato and egg dish featured on the Instagram post and it was delicious. It's an authentic Armenian dish that my mother used to make and their version reminded me very much of hers . Their coffee, by Stumptown, was excellent and their Gata, an authentic Armenian pastry, one of the best I've had. It's cafeteria style where you order your food and they bring it to your table. There's outdoor and indoor seating. Definitely worth trying, their food is excellent. read more

This is a fairly new cafe Just on the outskirts of Old Town Pasadena. I really love the name and the clean decor. I went close to closing time and it was still quite busy. For me the stand out of what I tried was the Greek salad. I found it more flavorful than a lot of salads I have had in town. The lemony dressing tastes so fresh and flavorful. I also love that it had Spanish capers. I was amazed that with so many salty ingredients like feta, olives, capers, the salt balance was just right. The tomatoes and cucumbers are cut a little roughly and rustic. I would have liked slightly smaller pieces but at the end of the day the taste is there. read more

Overpriced and just not good gf desserts. This place used to be good when it was just a gf bakery, but the baked goods aren't the same level. The cupcakes sort of fall apart, have a gritty texture and are overly sweet with filling/frosting. They're so expensive and just didn't hit the mark. read more

Had a good time with a friend for a quick lunch during the weekend. Had the Greek Salad, Potato Pie, Chicken Pie (Ukraine Style), along with one of their lemonades and their lattes. Service was prompt and the food was good, ordered at the counter and got a decent table. The place is pretty homely and you can do a reservation if you want to, place has a brick with greens vibe. The cafe seems more catered to pickup but you can still stay and relax if you want to which is what we did. Actually witnessed an Asian Karen event while eating and the staff held their cool didn't smite her despite my own urges to do so. Based on that interaction, it seems it was a family operation and I respect the type of service they provided. read more

I ordered their Thanksgiving package and it was PHENOMENAL. All my guests were talking about how amazing the quality was and not to mention they delivered it to my home. The food was hot and fresh. So my friend and I were walking and looking for a small place that had a decent lunch and somehow we came across Art Lunch and stopped by.... Greeted by a gal when we came in we had a couple of questions and especially myself since I wanted something vegan and chose the vegan roll and she got the chicken and veggie lunch combo.... I have to say they give a lot for that lunch combo and I was surprised it was such a great deal the entree, a salad (not a cheapie salad) and a drink....the vegan roll was really fresh and good...I love when food is light and refreshing....We also had dessert (pastry) from the top of that glass shelf a slie of it and man it was really good too...Sorry not even sure what it is... The place is nicely decorated and just felt like it was such a welcoming vibe....I would've had some coffee drink but I really just had a latte before coming in! It looked like a small family run business and I asked the guy who helped us at the register and he said that it is family run, and they recently opened about 4 months ago... Please help local businesses like this one and give them a chance, try their food and the presentation and service! Definitely will go again when in the area! read more

The food was pretty but the taste did not live up to how it looks. The chicken was tough and the veggies were not seasoned and had a lot of oil. The lemonade is very sour yet watered down. The service was not good at all; no public restrooms and workers using their phones. The food was expensive for quantity and quality. This place is such a unique blend: part hip-hop vinyl shop, part artsy cafe, and all-around good vibes. The music selection is top notch, and I loved browsing the cute merch and randomly awesome stationery items. Service was super friendly. My husband had a great conversation with one of the guys behind the counter about the shop's minimalist decor, and we learned Two Kids has been thriving for 10 years. I hadn't been in since right around the pandemic, so it was heartwarming to see they made it through and are still flourishing. The espresso was absolutely luscious, and as a bonus, we got the prettiest latte art with hearts in our drinks, big love for that! Really wish I had more time to hang out on the comfy couches in the middle of the shop and soak in some vinyl tunes. The one issue I have with them is they show a loyalty program in terms of entering your phone number -- if you order online as well as the register. But I've never gotten any points. I once asked the owner about it and he claimed that they do in fact give out items, and said he would check on it that night when I told him the situation. But he never actually asked my name and info, and I've still never received any points since, despite having ordered here about twice a week for the past several weeks. It's not a deal breaker but it's strange.

Interior design and layout were cool sleek and spacious, respectively. Atmosphere was nice with plenty of natural light. Young staff were nice. They have front outdoor seats for those who prefer some view. I had a Mint Iced Coffee and it's complete whoppers! If Sauron exists this drink is perfect for him and his minions. It's blithering pathetic drink; there was not a good balance of elements in this mint IC. Drink was not brewed smoothly, not refreshing, banal plastic cup, and on top of it über milky. All I had was a tiny sip and I quivered. And I knew that it was a subpar-mediocre iced coffee. The price does not reflect the quality, I threw it away. No wonder the rating was utterly garbage. I suggest they overhaul their drinks. Overall, I will never come back again. And waste my resources. Not sure why folks enjoy this kind of iced drink.

We waited probably another 5 minutes but drink still didn't come so I went inside to ask about it and saw the drink sitting on the back counter. So I asked staff if I could pick up the drink and they handed it over. Our friend's sandwich (the Jester) looked pretty filling while wife and I ordered/shared the Crown Jewel with cheese and mayo on the side. The Crown Jewel was pretty meh overall. Wasn't as stacked as the Jester and the bread fell apart as I ate it, despite the mayo on the side. At the end of eating someone came by to grab our order numbers and ask how things went. I commented on the wait for the drink and was told they couldn't find us, which sounded strange because they found us when bringing the sandwich and we still had our order number. But she said we could get a free refill. Since I wanted to take advantage of the refill I went inside to inquire but the order counter had gotten extremely busy. So I asked one of the bus/wait staff outside if they could grab my refill. He directed me inside and he commented how busy they were but I said I didn't want to wait in the huge line simply for a refill, so he offered to meet me inside to get the refill. Eventually I did receive the refill and we left. Overall, for the price of the food I felt the service was very average bordering on subpar, and the food was meh for the price. I don't blame the staff as they all seemed to be working very hard, but perhaps they were understaffed which would be more of a management issue. We basically bussed a couple tables on our own and waited what eventually amounted to 20-25 minutes for an ice tea/lemonade. I pre-tipped when I bought the food, which I kind of regretted but also felt bad that the employees were understaffed so I likely would have left a tip anyways. I don't plan to go back anytime soon. Without the reservation, you might be limited to patio parking only. Even their bar area was busy and reserved during our time there. I didn't mind the waiting, but it was stressful waiting in a tight space with their staff coming in and out with huge piles of dishes and you have to be careful if you don't want to be bumped into. This feeling of crowdedness continues to the tables with the spacing between one table to another very tight together. More to this in a bit. The hostess was so sweet, she actually sent us a complimentary Blistered Bread and Ricotta ($14) dish that we both really enjoyed to make up for the wait. The blistered bread was masterfully executed, very thin and went perfectly with the ricotta dip. Once again, I didn't mind the wait at all. That was not the problem with my meal. Anyways... going on... the waiter... the waiter we had was really grumpy. Not sure if it's just his personality or he was having a bad day. It had all of the signs of a successful restaurant. My boyfriend and I shared the following: Squash Blossoms ($16) - I love squash blossoms. My boyfriend knew I wouldn't be able to resist ordering it. Their preparation of this delicate ingredient was heavy for my liking. The batter on it was thick and oily. The toasted hazelnuts were unnecessary. House Italian Sausage ($26) - They have one of those pizza ovens. The crust was thin and crispy. It was well prepared. However the issue we had with this was the flavor, or rather lacking flavor. The taste of the Italian sausage was overwhelmed by the red onion agrodolce. We both ate a slice and took the rest home. Even as leftovers we weren't excited to eat it. Charred Scallop Risotto ($38) - What really sold me was the baja uni batter that I did not taste much of in this dish. This was a poor execution of a risotto. The texture was off, and the flavor was overwhelmed by whatever cheese they used in this dish. The charred scallop was one single scallop cut in half and overly charred and rubbery in taste. The blue shrimp were shriveled too. We made sure to eat the proteins to prevent waste but you know it's bad when my boyfriend didn't even want to togo this dish. He normally eats anything to prevent waste. Branzino alla Griglia ($38) - Whole grilled branzino topped with eggplant, salsa verde and herb salad. This was the least bad item that we paid for... Although there was a lot of bones to be cautious of. I understand the risk of stumbling on a few bones when ordering a whole fish but this was more than I would have liked. I also didn't like some of the flavors coating the fish. Although from a grilled perspective it was crispy and perfectly cooked. This is a popular business with plenty of patrons to keep them busy. Whatever they like... it isn't what I look for in a business I frequent. I know they don't need my business and I will gladly stay away and save myself all of the trouble. This was way too stressful and there weren't any dishes I need to have again. My experience was so awful I'm being very generous with this 3 star, which is "average".

We stopped by Art Lunch in Pasadena for lunch after my wife's chiropractor visit. We ordered the Club Sandwich with Orange Juice, and everything hit the spot. The club sandwich was fresh and delicious, and while the orange juice wasn't freshly squeezed, it was still really tasty. The French fries were outstanding -- Super crispy and flavorful, they honestly reminded me of The Hat's famous fries. I also treated myself to a Chocolate Cookie and a Vanilla Cupcake, and both were absolutely delicious. The desserts tasted homemade and added the perfect sweet touch to the meal. What really stood out, though, was the service. Our server was so kind and welcoming, offering helpful suggestions and even bringing us free ranch and mustard. Absolutely amazing! The food was so sooo good that I completely forgot to take a picture! We ordered the Armenian omelette and the Armenian Basturma omelette. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exceeded our expectations. I also ordered the matcha and it was the perfect color (matcha drinkers will know!). The customer service was top-notch, the guys who helped us were very friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. Where to even begin? Going to Art Lunch is an experience like no other, and I have never left unsatisfied. Got the bagel, and it was fine, until about halfway through, I take a bite and there is this incredibly bitter flavor. I take out a lemon wedge, rind and all, and walk over to the counter. I ask the guy at the counter if the sandwich is supposed to have an actual lemon wedge in there, and he looks super uncomfortable and says, "yeahhhhh..." like he wishes it wasn't supposed to be there. Why would anyone think that people would want to chew on lemon rinds as part of a smoked salmon sandwich???
