The golf course and staff are great but my concern is with the concession offering. We purchased green fee, cart, and pitchers of beer for our group. The golf experience was great from the staff, course conditions, and then we went for our prepaid pitchers of beer and found that they had very little draft beer to offer. Their excuse was that they were waiting for a delivery of draft beer. No compensation of bottled beer or anything else was offered. We left without our expected beer refreshment that was a part of our pre-purchased package. The concession at Arrowood has always been a disappointment and has weighed heavily on our family's decision to not become a member at Arrowood. read more

Iv'e been to this place a hundred times probably and it's simple, very nice course most of the year, quality practice area and mostly friendly staff, BUT the leadership is awful. The GM/Manager whatever is related to ownership (or something similar so I've heard) and is just pathetic in how he handles people, and the staff will always struggle because of his clueless management style. Bad customer service ALWAYS comes from the top down. Places like IN N OUT/Chic Fil a THRIVE because they take ownership of their customer service that way, whereas places like this have to learn the hard way that EVENTUALLY your poor treatment and disregard for your customers will kill your business. It ALWAYS catches up. I use this place and enjoy it for it's free amenities, and I like most the staff in general, but their leadership is sad and will ruin your experience every time they're involved. Too bad. read more

This is about a 4.5 star affair... I believe it is the same STARTER we had last time and he is friendly to the 10th power. As are the marshalls encountered on the course. It's my birthday so I holed out an uphill 18' putt to start. I am really seeing the greens well and had three 1-putts and many near long 1-putts which led to easy 2-putts. I really enjoy the greens here. They aren't the smoothest in the west. A little drier and not soft or smooth to the touch and a little worn in spots but I seem to putt well here. It isn't as hilly as some of the canyon courses we've played but don't get it in your mind that it is on the flat side as it is nowhere near that either. It is a very enjoyable play and there is mostly a good amount of diversity between holes. Some par 3's look similar but they are still nice. The SIGNATURE HOLE 16 (I assume this is it) which may have a slightly blind tee shot depending on your tee box (unless you move to the edge and sneak a peak which is easily done). Water surrounds the green. It is a very nice looking golf hole. The course is fairly green and pretty well maintained throughout. The first BATHROOM located at HOLE 7 is a scary place. It still has the graffiti from last time but it has added some members from the INSECT KINGDOM. Prior to washing my hands I was startled by what was hanging beneath the sink. There was a chunky BLACK WIDOW SPIDER in its web and a 1/2 inch diameter and 2 inch (or longer) fat black "hairy, hairy worm" as my wife would call it. It looked like a short and fat black pipe cleaner. The hairy worm was trying to escape as the black widow was moving in. They were doing their respective dances and I ensure you it was not a "dance of joy" for the worm. This is one of my pet peeves about golf courses. Bear in mind that I don't like spiders (obviously) but their personnel are out on the course regularly, can't you bring some cans of insecticide and hose this place down regularly? It's always a gamble when you enter those remote bathrooms on golf courses as to what might be in there. Very nasty... read more

They set their GolfNow account to pre-pay, which is lame by itself. Very few courses do that and it's not like it's that nice of a course where tee times are booked out way in advance. It was dead when I got there. I booked a two-some and my buddy had to cancel last min due to a dental emergency. They refused to refund me for his green fees or even give me a voucher to play again in the future. Again, the place was dead - they let me out as a single. Lady at the front desk was dismissive and punted to the golf pro, who of course didn't return my call. Course is alright but charging customers to not play the course shows what they think about their local customers. read more

Nice layout. But, grass around greens is very lumpy. A ball hit short will bound in ant direction. Greens are nice, but players do not repair ball marks. Makes putting very erratic. Fairways are in good shape. Service is very good. Beverage cart attendants are helpful and attractive! Will probably play again. read more

Beautiful setting, fascinating and challenging course architecture and nicely maintained practice area and facilities. BUT, then you have two competing sounds systems with tired 70s easy listening coming from the golf shop and a cross current of entirely different "music" coming from the restaurant. It is all too much for what would otherwise be a lovely Sunday morning. Can we have some PEACE and QUIET to enjoy the golf experience?? The weekend rate for 18 holes is now one of the most expensive in San Diego county, having gone to $100 in the last few months. This course is simply not in good enough shape to warrant those fees. Several sand traps had rock hard bottoms and meveral of the greens had bare spots. There are many courses in San Diego that are in much better shape and cost less to play. read more

Very disappointed in the pro shop staff. Spent two hours driving to Arrowood to play on an Underpar coupon which comes with a free replay after the first round. Upon early morning check-in the staff tells us when we can't play our second round because there is a shotgun tournament that day, which they failed to inform us when we booked the tee time the prior week. After our first round we notice nobody is on the first tee box or the entire hole, so we go into the pro shop to ask if they will slide us in. "NOPE, not even a chance" they say. I ask them if we can get a discount voucher for another round some other day, they respond "that is over our pay grade, so no". We ended up sitting next to the pro shop to finish our drinks for another 45 minutes and not one person tees off on the first hole the entire time, so they could have easily let us play our PAID FOR second round. They were just being as difficult and un-facilitating as possible. Two of the most unprofessional pro shop staff I have ever encountered... They don't give a SH*T about customer service. Won't be going back to this course unless they reach out to offer me and my buddy the free round we were screwed out of... read more

Not Military Friendly. Considering this golf course is located near one of Camp Pendleton's main entrances, I was very surprised to realize they were not military friendly. Last year, I received a gift certificate for two people to play at Arrowood. Two months after I received this gift certificate, I required surgery related to injuries I sustained while in military service. I wrote to Arrowood specifically requesting an extension of this gift certificate (which btw was only valid for 9 months). I explained my situation and they declined to extend it. I wrote back and asked them to reconsider and emphasized that the reason I couldn't utilize it was due to surgery related to military injuries. Once again to my surprise, they declined. I am truly shocked by the level of apathy displayed towards a Veteran by this golf course. Had this been a gift certificate that was valid for at least 12 months, I would not have had an issue utilizing it given my physical therapy timeline. Truly disappointed and have told other servicemembers, both active duty and Veterans, about my experience. Everyone is utterly shocked and just as disheartened by Arrowood as I am. Needless to say, I do not recommend this golf course. read more

We got a discount as they just sanded their greens but otherwise this place is a first class golf club. They carry Macanudo cigars in the pro shop. The fairways are in good shape and it is a beautiful golf course. The carts are in good condition and the food carts came by often. We had their lunch deal of a hot dog and beer for $7. The clubhouse is relaxing and upscale. Would love to go here again. read more

Cant believe I'm the first to review this great course hidden in the boonies of Oceanside. We went out here today for a golf outing with a few members from our dept and had a blast. The course, although somewhat short, is very challenging and demands accurate approach shots. The fairways were in decent shape and the greens rolled very true. Holes 16 and 18 are absolutely beautiful. Make sure you have a earlier tee time so you can really enjoy the views of these finishing holes. Great photo opportunity. Pace of play on a mid-day Wednesday was quick. I didn't shoot too well but our group finished our round under 4 hours. The practice facilities is in great shape and there is plenty of parking everywhere. For you beer lovers, 3 domestics for $8.25! read more

My brother-in-law and I played this on June 13th, 2012 early in the morning (Friday morn). We're from AZ and looking for a place to play close to Carlsbad while on the family vacation. I'm really not one to write reviews, but not knowing the area at all, looking up this course on Yelp was of great help. The staff was overly nice as we walked up, and the pro shop manager was great. We purchased our rounds off of Golf Now for $59, which isn't bad, but definitely on the higher end of what we normally pay. It ended up being well worth the money. The only thing I really didn't like was the fact that the range happened to be on mats instead of the grass, but honestly, it's definitely not that way everyday, and we just happened to catch one where that was the case. The rest of the day made up for that. The course was in excellent condition with carpet like fairways, and the bent grass greens were perfect. Like I said, it was early so the greens were still a bit damp, but the roll was true, and it was basically hit and stick. In AZ we don't get to enjoy the 80 degree weather, and immaculate courses this time of year so it was a real treat. We were surprised by the fact that there weren't very many other players out at that time on a Friday. It seemed like we had the course to ourselves which just added to the experience. All in all we had a great time on a really fun course. Having only played Carlton Oaks Golf Course in the SD area, we'll definitely be back to this course next time. It was a good find. read more

My go to course. Not too crowded, course is generally in good shape, holes are challenging but fair. No monkey business about putts rolling off the green and down a hill 20 yards. Ocean breezes make it to this place. Staff is friendly, the rates are fair. The closing holes, especially 16, are quite challenging. Some par 5's you can get there in two, and there is even a drive-able par 4. Good snack bar, wraps, and some good beer available. read more

Over all course is in good condition. Some of rhe greens are a bit bumpy/grainy but overall nice course and we got a deal on line so the price was nice too. Carts are like new and everything is clean and well kept. The sandwich shop serves good fresh food and the prices are not bad . (Garlic fries are slamming). read more

Such a great course. Probably one of the best and nicest course i have ever played so far in my 5 years of playing. Pro shop was very polite and very helpful and were able to get me out on the tee right away. The course is in magnificent shape and all the golfers in front of me let me play through. I finished 18 holes in less than 3 hours! Municipals in Los Angeles are lucky if they can finish their front 9 in that time frame. The only complaint I have during my round is the fact that they were aerating half of the greens at the time. But they made sure they placed the flags on the half that's already done. Overall, best experience I have ever had on a golf course and recommend anyone to try this course out when they can. Will definitely play it again. P.S. I played super twilight at 3pm and cost 32 bucks with cart on a Friday. Great deal. read more

The course is insanely nice HOWEVER the staff sucks. Have to change my original 5 star review. Their COVID response has been the most retarded approach to reopening one could image. Sending emails saying carts available, then when you arrive it's walking only. No push carts available either so you get stuck walking around with a cart bag. Sunday afternoon I had a tee time for 1:30 got out at 1:30 didn'tfinish till 6:30 dark. The starter started us on 10 for some reason. Not a single person on the 1st Tee, I didn't see one person on the second tee box either. We got to the 11th hole where there were 3 4somes waiting. The first nine took 3 1/2 hours. 4 stars is the right rating for this course. They have decent food, a good proshop, and I like the architectural design of the building. Their practice facility is decent, however their range is due for new mats in the near future. Good practice putting and chipping greens. The course is challenging, but not ridiculously hard. I was able to break 80 the second time I played it (I'm a 5 handicap). The greens are fast and slippery--my type of grass. They roll consistently and roll true. Only issue is that they are so hard it's tough to repair ball marks, but it seemed like if I went over a ball mark it wouldn't affect the velocity of my putt. The fairways show signs of the drought, but they're in good shape for the lack of water and are easy off of which to hit Overall, Arrowood is a 4-star course. Definitely coming back if I get the opportunity! read more

My buddy and I played Arrowood a few days ago, what a fun track! Everyone we encountered working there was very friendly from the pros shop to the outdoor dining afterwards. The food was all really good, I recommend sharing a pizza and some buffalo fries. It's a little bit of a drive but will definitely be back sooner than later. read more

The greens were so good I had trouble adjusting to the speed, the clubhouse had an excellent selection that made me spend my money along with great food at the turn - and special shout out to the cart girl Sally for not only putting up with us but creating an atmosphere of good vibes and excellent service - something I have very seldom experienced in this area at this price point - all around worth the money! Our only complaint is with a shop employee that was rude not only to our group of four but also the gentleman ahead of us that was alone. A bad attitude, unfriendly and condescending while working in the high public contact position leaves a bad taste in your mouth. After reading all of the reviews on Yelp, I was looking forward to playing this course. Finally, made it out there last weekend and it was a huge disappointment. The number one downfall of this course is maintenance. The greens were torn up and were some of the worst greens I have ever seen (and I have played tons of munis!). Of course, every course has problems with people not fixing ball marks, but this was much worse. There were old ball mark scars (ones that were never repaired by players or the greenkeeper), patches and holes, and insane spike marks everywhere. Also, a lot of the cups were crumbling at the edges. There was also tons of overgrowth all around the course. For example, you can't even see their trademark 17th hole from the tee box because the brush growing in front of it is too high (pretty awesome looking hole if you walk up to the edge and look over the brush). On another hole, you couldn't see the pin from the middle of the fairway because a huge tree was growing over from the hazard. The bunkers have a thin layer of sand and have clay/gravel/dirt underneath. It is a real shame because the course is pretty fun and the customer service is great. From a layout standpoint, it isn't my favorite type of course; tons of blind tee shots and raised, blind greens. But those things can be overcome after playing a couple times, and it sure beats those flat back-and-forth type courses. No doubt, this would be a fun and challenging course, if it were even in half decent shape. As it is now, it is unbearably bad. We got the GolfNow deal for about $65, and won't be returning any time soon ($100+ rack rate for this place is a joke). Looking now, it doesn't look like there have been many reviews within the last 6 months (maybe a change in the greenskeeper/maintenance crew?). Until they get their maintenance in order, avoid this track. read more

Love this tucked away gem! My favorite time to go is after an early work day durning the week for twilight. The scenery, abundant wild life (so many bunnies!), and pretty empty course is like a mini getaway! If you play weekends expect to play slow. All in all, great. (Oh! FYI there is some type of animal park on the outskirts of the last nine- and there is an animal that makes this funny screaming/yelling noise) I find it hilarious. read more

Arrowood is one of the best Golf Courses in San Diego for the money! I've been a member for 6 years and have played the course around 400 times and I never get tired of it. I've watched the trees mature and the greens are some of the best in San Diego. They roll their greens every Tuesday and Thursday mornings, so if you like fast greens, secure your tee times early morning on those days... Otherwise they run around 10/11 (Average) on the stemp meter... You'll love the course. I promise! read more

Wow - what a great party, and what an amazing job the staff did for hosting a 60th Anniversary party for my in-laws earlier this month! Everything was perfect, all 42 guests in attendance loved the venue, food, service, views, and the overall comfortable vibe you get there. I have been an event planner for many years and typically work with 5 star hotels - this team at this hidden little gem in Oceanside matched the service with a constant smile, the food was generous and surprisingly EXCELLENT (prime rib station), couldn't have been happier!! Rates were very fair & reasonable, they were so flexible with the menu, our set up needs, etc. Special shout out to Brandon & Jessica in Events, Matt (talented chef), Danny (set up & tear down, who also worked his butt off with a smile like the others), the girls behind the scene, and John for his help getting the space secured. You guys rock!! We definitely would use them again in the future, and recommend them to anyone looking for a super cool venue! If I could give 10 stars, I would!! I really like this course. It's one of the best public courses in San Diego County that's under $100. I have family that live just a few minutes from the course and I will definitely tee it up at Arrowood next time I'm in town. I most recently played the course on 8/5/11 and it was in very good shape. The layout has a little bit of everything and players of all skill levels will enjoy it. I'm a 5 HDCP and I felt that the course was a good enough challenge from the back tees. The three finishing holes are fairly tough, all with false fronts on the greens that either reject your ball into a water hazard (16 and 18), or send the ball rolling back down a steep hill for quite a ways (17). The 16th hole also has a blind tee shot where you basically have to aim for a cloud if you can find one. At least that's the case from the back tees. Maybe you can actually see the fairway, or at least a hill if you tee it up somewhere else. High handicappers will loathe these finishing holes along with #12 due to the rather large ravine that guards the green. But, they do help to create a more balanced course since most of the other holes are not all that tough. My complaints with this course are few and perhaps a little nit picky depending on who's reading this. I was dismayed to see houses being built close to the fairway on #12 during my most recent visit. By close I mean in the line of fire from the tee. Golf courses with encroaching houses really piss me off and I avoid them whenever I can. Arrowood gets a pass because it's only a problem on the 12th hole and I can deal with it since the course is otherwise fine. There are other houses around, but none are close enough to the course to the point where you worry about accidentally hooking a drive through someone's kitchen window. Raise your hand if you're guilty of doing that. (My hand is raised). Why didn't I give it 5 stars? Because I save 5 star ratings for public courses like Pebble Beach. read more
