This place has good ambiance. The whale video was cool to watch because the inside was dark and there was plenty of lighting to see where you were walking. The food is hit or miss. A DISAPPOINTMENT! Was really looking forward to this place, found it to be good through yelp, but it was not. Ordered 8 dishes, all disappointment lacked flavor, appearances were lacking. I thought it being advertised as upscale would at least be appealing. The vermicelli noodles were hard under the abalone, obviously was never soaked. We ordered four appetizers and they came out less than 5 mins, I wonder if it was pre made? The service was not that great, out tea was never refilled, plates never changed, our server only returned to our table when he saw us pick up the menu again and asked "would you like to order something else?" Service: Came as a party of 4 and we were seated quickly, staff were very sweet and attentive to our needs. Overall, very good dining experience. Food: Blueberry Jelly Infused Yams (5/5)- Gourd-like shaped and almost too pretty to eat. Like the name suggests, yam encapsulated in a blueberry jelly. Pretty addicting. Claypot rice (5/5): Ordered this instead of white rice and ate it with all the entrees. The veggies and protein in the bowl added to the flavor and the rice itself had a nice crispiness towards the bottom of the claypot. Array 36 Signature Crispy Prawns in Plum sauce (5/5): Must try, this one was my absolute favorite! Im very picky with shrimp/prawns especially ones with the shell still intact...but this one completely changed my opinion. The prawn shell had a perfect crisp to it and it's tossed in a delicious umami plum sauce and powder. Can't stop thinking about it... Shanghai Style Scallion Oil Chicken (4.5/5): Tender Chicken , Scallion oil is packed with flavor. Marinated Beef (5/5): Tender cuts of beef marinated in a delicious sauce. Sichuan Style Spicy Chicken with Chillies (5/5): Extremely tender chicken, has quite a kick. Hot and Sour Fish in Golden Broth (4.5/5): Fish tasted very clean and tender. Broth was very comforting. Definitely an acquired taste due to the numbing peppers. Yogurt Bunny Mousse (5/5): Took so many pictures for memory because it was honestly too cute to eat. Date: 1/1/2024 Food: Delectable Service:: Acceptable Ambiance: Loud Went to this place for the second time, delicious food. So we finally were able to get the duck after walking into the restaurant to talk to the manager about the tricks to get it. ( we couldn't get it last time). So here is how: you'd have to go in early for the first round ( 5pm) in order to get a chance to get it. I have finally been told that the ducks can be reserved if and only if the party books a private room. Food: # Signature Duck - whole duck served in 3 ways. (5*) 1) Thinly sliced skin to be eaten with sugar. Traditional like the ones you would get from Ji R*ng. 2) sliced the rest of the duck with meat and skin to be eaten with the wrapper and other condiments. Great for someone who loves to eat meat. The wrapper is a little thicker than the ones I have had before at other places, but it is still good. Filling in a way. 3) Smoked duck skin. I personally think this was the best part of the whole duck. It's got a very aromatic apple wood scent and the smokiness remains in the mouth and till now, it is still stuck in my mind of how delicious it was. # King Crab Legs - Whole King Crab. We asked for it to be steamed and served in 3 ways. (5*) 1) Steamed crab legs with Garlic. - Fresh and clean, a little briny and sweetness that derives from a fresh shellfish. No need to say more, best ever! 2) Stir fry the body of the crab in ginger and scallion. - The rest of the party liked #2 for its savoriness. I forgot to take a photo of it. One of my friends even thought it was lobster. :) 3) Crab Row Steamed with eggs - See Photo. The restaurant also offers fried rice options as well. - Eggs were steamed to perfection. Creamy and soft. Good to go with rice. # HK Style Crispy Squab - Traditional HK style, we call it " red burn immature pigeon) " in our language. It's crispy but the meat leans towards the chewier side. It's still tasty, just that elderly might find it a little difficult to chew. (3*) # Crispy Prawn - See my previous review ( 4.5*) # Japanese Yuzu Jellyfish - Light and Refreshing. The jellyfish is a little crunchy as said in my previous review. The highlight of the dish, to me, is the sauce. It does go really well with rice. (4*) #Shanghai Style Smoke Fish - Everyone please try this dish. I have had it 2 times and everyone in the party on both days loved it. Please refer to my previous review on the taste. (5*) #Turbot - Its got a soft texture and if one likes steamed fish skin, this is the dish. The center portion of the fish was a little tough. Again, it's all about personal preferences. (2*) # Old Chicken Soup - BIG pot of soup. The broth was clear, tasteful and gelatinous. We took the leftover home and the soup became solidified the next day after refrigeration. For diner's references, we were a party of 6, we ordered a whole chicken in a clay pot - $88. For individual portion per menu, it's $28/pp. (5*) # Crispy Prawns in Plum Sauce - It was as good as the first time I tried, which was 2 days ago. Lightly fried and coated with a little sweet sauce, crispy shell that can be eaten as whole including the tail. (4.5*) #Water Spinach - The veggie is very baby-like. Very young and easy to chew. We got it with RED fermented bean curd which I have never had before. The traditional HK style ones are usually stir fried with the white bean curd. Interesting dish to try for the first time. (4*) Overall: Another great dining experience. As said in a previous review, this is seriously the most upscale Chinese restaurant I have been to in LA. Perhaps Vegas would have similar ones? This restaurant reminds me of Vegas in some way. It's like dine here if you are loaded. Yet, their dishes were not as expensive as people think. For the Implacable quality of food this restaurant serves, every penny is worth spending. I would recommend everyone who reads this review to give this place a try. Afterall, not sure why this place has only 3.5 stars on yelp as of today (1/3/2024), in my opinion, it deserves 5* +. Will I go back again for the 3rd time? YES! Going back this Saturday! Drove 4hrs to try this place. I would say I'm pretty disappointed. With four dollar sign I expected to be better presentation and great service. The photos on the menu look well worth the money, but when dishes arrived on the table it's a total different thing. Our waiter that took our orders was very friendly, the lady servers seem new, few dishes we added never arrive. Overall experience I give 3 star just for the ambiance.
