If I could have given 3 1/2 stars, that would have been my preference. I was in the area for work and staying with my sister, who has come mostly for breakfast. Always game to try something new, I asked our waitress about a few dishes. She seemed unaware of some (which was not encouraging). Based on her comments, I settled on the basil pesto/ chimichurri tri-tip sandwich, along with a green salad (although could have done French fries). My sister ordered salmon and the staff accommodated her switch in sides to masked potatoes. I had a taste of the salmon, which had a lovely buttery taste and a nice crisp on the grilled surface. My sandwich came on a soft, tasty ciabatta roll with a savory pesto sauce. The side salad was abundant & fresh, with a nicely diverse mix of greens. My Tri-tip, however, tasted pretty fatty and looked a bit too red & raw in some places...so much so that I couldn't quite finish it. Thankfully the side salad was quite good and compensated for the meat quality. I wish I would have ordered the salmon also, since my sister's dish was delicious. The wait staff are friendly and accommodating, even though not always fully knowledgeable about all components of the menu. I would likely try here again, but maybe opt for breakfast next time (or the grilled salmon). read more

I've lived in Aromas for several years and have frequented this restaurant from the beginning. They offer mainly American dishes and some of them are pretty decent. Overall, the quality is very average. My family eats here once or twice a month for convenience. It's changed hands a couple of times, and every restaurant has its strengths and weaknesses, but in the last year or so, the service and accuracy have fallen a lot. Taking into consideration the staffing challenges every restaurant is facing, the wait staff is mediocre, we often wait a while to be served, even when it's not busy. When I go to pick up a takeout order, I have waited over 5 minutes for someone to greet me, and I still have to wait on the food. Sometimes the owner is sitting right at the bar; no greeting, no service, no wait staff in sight. About half the time, something is wrong with the order. If you sit at the bar, you're lucky to get 2 drinks in an hour, no one is there serving or even coming by to check on you. Tonight was my most recent experience, my salad was missing chicken, and I took the order back to the restaurant (it was takeout) to get it corrected. The waitress did apologize, but I had to wait another 10 minutes and she didn't even offer me a drink or water as I sat at the bar. I don't know if they are understaffed or undertrained (I think a combination of both) but the service is poor. I wouldn't eat here at all if it wasn't the only restaurant in my area. Aromas deserves better. read more

Usually we really enjoy our food here! We even bring large groups such as last nite! But the last 2 times I've been disappointed with my plates. The other time I had the salmon plate but the salmon was really dry Then last nite I got the chicken/broccoli teriyaki bowl. And tho there was plenty of chicken there was barely any broccoli! The part I don't like was it all was drenched in a very sweet syrup. Even the rice was drenched. The whole bowl was just so overly sweet that I sure didn't need dessert! My large group had fun tho. We were working in this town and as the only place to eat, my coworker and I decided to have lunch there. We sat outside and it wasn't long before a waitress came out and took our order. I ordered the pesto chicken sandwich with garlic fries and my coworker ordered the tri-tip sandwich with onion rings. They both looked so appetizing that we traded each other half a sandwich. The garlic fries were fresh, crispy, seasoned perfectly, and very flavorful. The sandwiches were, for lack of other words, bomb. The breads were soft and tasty, the meats were cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the dressings like lettuce, tomatoes, and onions were fresh and crispy. My coworker made the comment that this was the way to finish the work week (It was a Friday). Needless to say, we came again the following Friday. The Aromas grill reminds me of an ex girlfriend that you just can't seem to get rid of. You don't hang out with her for a couple months and you forget how it is to be with her. Once you do hang out, all of the bad memories comeback and you realize why you stopped in the first place. Wait time for food was a hour, and was not too busy. Server was very disorganized and forgetful. Unfortunately it is always like this. We had to ask for the check 3 times and even then I had to go up to the front. For now I will say goodbye. So disappointed! I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, medium well with onions rings to go! What I received was burned, cold onion rings! My husband grew up in Aromas and we went back to visit over Valentine's weekend. If it weren't for the cost of airfare, we would have a new regular Saturday morning breakfast place. We even commented that including flight time and the drive from the San Jose airport, it was about the same amount of time we would normally wait on a Saturday morning to get into our local Saturday morning breakfast place. Aromas is a small town, even by Oregon standards, so coming across this grill in the heart of downtown (the library, feed store and market surround the grill) was quite a find. My husband said that when he lived there, the town didn't have any restaurants so extra bonus. The dining room is small with the bar on one side and on the Saturday morning we were there, it was moderately busy. We were seated immediately and the wait staff was very attentive. We ordered our drinks...I had my standard breakfast beverage of a diet cola and my husband ordered a glass of orange juice. The diet soda had a little funky flavor too it, like it was near the end of the canister, but the orange juice was AMAZING. It was like drinking an orange. I ordered the vegetarian omelet and my husband ordered the Aromas omelet, the difference being his had bacon and ham in it. For just $7 the omelet that arrived was huge and the hash browns were cooked perfectly (I have had issues with this in a number of restaurants lately...burned hash browns = yuk!) The vegetables in the veggie omelet included zucchini, summer squash, onion, red peppers, green peppers and cheese. The vegetables were cut chunky enough that they still had a little crunch too them which I find to be a bonus with restaurant vegetables. I was amazed, but I ate the entire thing. As I mentioned the only difference with the Aromas omelet was the inclusion of ham and bacon, but it also got good reviews from the person who ate it. We visited this establishment. It was great years back when Sal owned it. We arrived on 8/22/19 for dinner at 820pm. The night was fresh and we decided to sit outside. Nobody came out after waiting for nearly 15 minutes. I decided to go in to inform wait satff that we've been waiting. It was now 835pm and they said kitchen is closed and take out orders are only being fulfilled. I looked a table behind me, and seen a family looking at their menu order (clearly they had not ordered) . If you advertise you close at nine, and clearly don't, then say we close at 830pm... Too bad. We Will not drive from Watsonville again to visit this place... They didn't even try to accommodate as they were clearly still serving people. Bad service...... read more

This restaurant is the closest one to my house but still a 10 minute drive one way. There have been multiple occasions where I have gotten home and my order is either missing something or wrong. I now have to physically check my order before I leave the restaurant now. Also, everytime I eat there the service is absolutely horrible. Today as I sit here waiting for my food, it took 13 minutes before a server approached me. I placed my order waited another 8 minutes for the server to come out and tell me they have no more orange juice. I said a water would be fine and waited 5 more minutes for my water. The service is similar to this nearly everytime I come here. I honestly don't know why I still give them my money. Half the time I call in a phone order they don't even answer the phone. So many times this place has disappointed me. I give them 1 star just because they have food, and sometimes it's even warm. Goodluck read more

We live close and have been going to the Grill since it opened. From our experience, since the new owners took over about a year ago, it improved. We have gone there several times for breakfast and it was great. Food was fast, service was good and the orders were correct. Tonight, we took friends there and told them how great it was. That was a mistake. The server was more concerned about chatting with co-workers and bar patrons than making sure we were taken care of. I ordered pasta with a different sauce than what was on the menu. My pasta came out with the wrong sauce and when I brought it up the servers response was "I think that's what you ordered but just watered down by the seafood". Nope. I knew it was wrong which is why I sent it back. She took it back and it came out with a different sauce but not what I anticipated or what I've always ordered. My husband ordered a pizza with a friend egg on it. His pizza came out with scrambled eggs on it. Our friends ordered chicken tenders with fries for their 2 year old. When her food didn't come out and all of ours had, the server told us that her chicken and fries would be right out. The tenders came out and a few minutes later she brought fruit. When we asked about the babies fries, the server acted surprised when we said we ordered fries for the kiddo. They're getting 3 stars from us because we know the potential is there but tonight was a bad experience and consistency is key, especially in the restaurant business.
