First, I love when there's valet parking right in front of the restaurant. Makes things a lot more convenient, especially if running late lol. We came here for date night and loved the atmosphere. Very calm and great music was playing in the background. We were attended right away and our waiter gave us great drink recommendations. Both the Negroni and jungle book were delicious and refreshing. We decided to do the "versos clásicos" tasting menu and I was so glad we did. Everything in this tasting menu was amazing and was way above our expectations. I savored every bite! The reason why I didn't give 5 stars was because of the duck. The waiter sold this addition to the tasting menu as a once in a lifetime experience and the best duck that could be found in Miami. Unfortunately, this was not true for me. The duck itself was very chewy and did not taste good without being drenched in the sauce. The tamal that came with it did taste good but was very dry. Very disappointed in the overall experience. I'm not a negative guy. The dish I had, the pork, exquisite. My wife had the fish, loved it! Our server, 'seemed' but was , honestly, somewhat, I don't know, not genuine. We ordered light dishes, not her much larger, multi-course suggestions. As it turned out, the main courses were more than enough. But the coups de gracè was when she suggested a Pinot Noir that none of the 4 that wanted a Pinot Noir liked, told her so, and she left the half bottle on the table as If it were dirty handkerchief with bad stuff in it (I could easily be more graphic here but I won't) and ordered another bottle that we drank all of and they still charged us for the other bottle. Now in her defense, after telling her when we were leaving, walking out the door, that we had not it liked it, she offered to take it off our bill and I said no. It isn't about the $145, it was and it is the service as it relates to her universal reaction to the disappointing wine. She acted as if we had said nothing, took our order for the next bottle and served it. The half consumed bottle was sitting on the table when we walked out. Very disappointing. read more

The food was just okay. I found the dishes to be over salted. The farmer appetizer was interesting but the beets were soaked in vinegar and unless you had a bite of the beet at the same time as something else on the plate, it was almost unpalatable. It was like a deconstructed concept of a beet honeycomb salad. They did send an amuse Bouche along with a surprise dessert bite at the end that was a nice tough. The service was great. Ariete blew my expectations out of the water and was one of the best meals I've had since moving to Miami one year ago. To start, I asked for a custom cocktail, which they made with their own unique twist, and it was fantastic. I ordered the farmers pan a cotta appetizer, and my husband the wahoo. Both were good, but in retrospect we didn't need to order them because little did we know that the duck for two that we ordered would be a LOT of food and come with salad, a duck tamale, and two duck pastelitos. The sauce for the duck was made tableside, which was fun to watch, and the portion of duck breast was twice as much as we anticipated. The salad was so fresh and delightfully balanced the slightly sweet richness of the duck sauce. My husband loved the tamale. Service was exceptional, and ambiance was perfect for a date. Ariete located in coconut grove, a very cozy ambiance. It's no surprise they received a Michelin star. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive the entire night. The sommelier was extremely helpful in selecting the perfect pairing for dinner. We started with the oysters, we did half bone marrow and half sea urchin. Both were AMAZING! We also had the langoustine and the Florida orange. The langoustine was tasty and refreshing and the Florida orange was very photogenic and tasty with the bead. For our mains we had the Wagyu, the snapper, and the venison. All three were tasty but the Wagyu was the best. After the mains we ordered another round of oysters, yes they are that delicious. We finished the meal with the flan for desert. Best flan I've had in a very long time. Will definitely be going back for more. read more

Wondering what dining out as Miami begins to re-open looks like? Here is my experience at Ariete. When the City of Miami allowed for restaurants to reopen on May 27 - I knew the first place I would be. It's one of my family's favorite spots, and so my parents and I decided to celebrate the phases of re-opening with dinner on the 27th. WHAT IS DIFFERENT: +Reservations are strongly encouraged for dine in. Since the seating is spaced out, there is less available so make sure to make a resi if you really want to dine at a specific time. I made my resi via Opentable. +There is hand sanitizer at the hostess stand when you walk in. Guests must wear masks when walking in, walking to their table, or walking in the restaurant to go to the bathroom. You can remove your mask at the table and they provide you with a paper bag to put it in so that you do not need to put it on the table. +All servers and staff are wearing both masks and gloves. +Tables have been set up to be a safe distance apart, and there are floor clings reminding you to keep a safe distance from other guests should you need to walk around. +There are paper menus. That way they can be disposed of after each guest. WHAT IS THE SAME: +THE FOOD. I have never been disappointed when I dine at Ariete. Be it the chug burger, some new dish they create (like wild boar which we enjoyed last time or house made charcuterie), it is always a delight. +THE DRINKS. While I miss posting up at the bar (my usual spot) I am so glad to enjoy drinks by Bobby, Emma and Caro. They are divine. My go to is the dimelo viejo which is Santa Teresa rum, passionfruit, and bubbly. SO GOOD. +THE STAFF/SERVICE. I dine at Ariete more times than I can count, and I've gotten to know the folks who work there. They are a smaller team now post-covid but are all super passionate and make you feel at home when you visit. +THE VIBE. Ariete is a vibe. From the music to the food to the people to the other guests. The happiness on what I called their "first day back at school" was an energy I couldn't get enough of. My parents and I dined outside and stayed for three hours soaking up being at a restaurant again. Thank you to the entire team for making us feel a bit normal again. PSA when starting to dine out again (if you feel comfortable): +Be Patient: this is new for everyone, and the same way you're getting use to the rules, so is the staff. +Follow the rules: wear your mask, respect the guidelines. I find it challenging to choose the right words to describe Chef Mike Beltran's flagship, his baby, his first restaurant of The Ariete Hospitality Group, the namesake; Ariete. Perhaps because I'm biased, perhaps because I feel know the story, after listening every month to his Pan-Con-Podcast, covering all things from the plight of Cubans and Cuban Americans, to culture, music, dining and how it all becomes a melting pot into what Ariete has developed into. Or maybe it's so delicious, I want to give back the same level of effort the experience gave us. I may never be able to match, but I'll try. When you first approach Ariete, their lush green patio is an oasis to welcome you in. Our group prefers to dine inside the dimly lit interior, lit up by real candles at every wood table, a clean bar with subway titles, and an eclectic soundtrack playing picked by the chef himself, ranging from classic rock, Spanish, rap, jazz and everything in between. Ariete has a very small a-la carte menu, many diners gravitate towards these table options, the Rohan Duck Press for Two, a delicious tableside preparation that needs it's own review, although we were able to get a supplemental course during our tasting menu this night. Ariete also has two different daily tasting menus titled "Versos Sencillos" meaning Simple Verses, of which there are two versions: "Clàsicos" and "Modernos" each offer more than six courses of culinary bliss. The classic version is the evolution of Ariete, some favorites from years past, and more familiar dishes, Wood Grilled Oysters, snapper, The Farmer a delightful fresh salad from local Miami farms, Our Florida Orange made from chicken and duck foie, Chef Mike's Candy Cap Mushroom flan. We opted for the modern tasting menu, an evolution and refinement of what Cuban food could become in an elevated space, free from repression, both metaphorically and actually. I think it's also important to state that every dinner at Ariete is unique, even within the tasting menu. Dishes and ingredients are substituted when the season, produce, and available protein and dictates, but no matter what you receive on the plate, you're bound to get something that's delicious. For drinks I enjoyed the Chef's Negroni rum cocktail to start. There was a wine paring available to compliment the tasting menu, but I opted for just 3 different glasses to stretch out the courses. The sommelier made some good recommendations, we went with Bubbles for the first couple of courses, a chardonnay for the middle, and a red wine for the final courses. Our Amuse-bouche was almost like a soup shooter in a crunchy pastry shell, a quick one bite to get the evening off right. Next, we were presented with a parker house roll with sea salt and clarified butter on top. Corporate pastry chef Devin Braddock & team are responsible for all of AHG's baked breads and this one was another winner. The caviar, was a generous portion atop a caramelized plantain, with a light lobster jus finish, a delightful clean dish. Florida scallop, served with fresh strawberries, a strawberry consommé and topped finger lime, which look like little caviar pearls. Another great clean course, the scallop had a bite to it, was plump, juicy and fresh. A warm soup course with stone crab, jalapeno, coconut curd, served in a bowl that looked like a shell, very good. Over the years I haven't been a fan of Foie Gras, I didn't "get it" While people swore by it, I thought it was overrated, perhaps this was because I didn't have it prepared as excellently as this was. Our Foie Gras Torchon. Served with a touch of sweet homestead guava, and crumbled caramelized white chocolate, and a dusting of tarragon on top, this was to die for. Served with two slices of the best mini brioche bread I've ever had. Easily one of the best courses of the night. Okay, I get it now. Grouper Encendido, this had a plantain miso spread across the plate, a wonderful touch of sweet dirty rice, along with a vinegary green papaya pikliz After a passion fruit sorbet palette cleanser , the next course was a supplemental Rohan duck press course. ender slices of medium rare duck with a wonderful sweet pan pressed sauce, along a duck tamale Incredible Our final entrée was squab pithivier, a slice wrapped in a puffed pastry with a farce (or mousse) of squab, an squab breast in the center, finished with a bitter chocolate beet and squab jus. This was great imaginative and executed well. Dessert was a three course affair with a light tasting champagne Sabayon set atop passionfruit sorbet for a "pre-dessert " Next our "dessert-dessert" "The Cigar" served in an Ariete cigar box, sensational. Finally, before the bill was presented, a plate of Petit fours were so delicious, especially the goat cheese and guava, and chocolate sea-salt ganache. Tasting menu was $199pp with the duck course extra, two different wine parings were extra, but I opted for just 3 glasses. A splurge indeed but worth it! read more

The restaurant was an amazing experience. I started with a three course prefix menu and I got the crab my friend got the Venison. It was delicious and we got the duck together and lastly, we ended with the chocolate cigar in the flan. They also gave a few sides came with the duck that were really delicious and accompanied my meal amazingly! The amuse bush and bread course was unexpected, but a very enjoyable surprise! I saw a video on Instagram of someone raving about the pressed duck. The next time my parents were in town I made a reservation. They were running late so I ordered a cocktail, the green drink, it was good. Miami has stepped it up in the cocktail realm so I can't say it was fantastic, however, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Once they arrived they wanted to move tables, the staff accommodated us which we were thankful for. We ordered the oysters and the morel. The bone marrow oysters were our fav. The sea urchin was a tad salty and the morel was a little lack luster. I would definitely get the bone marrow oysters again. The duck press on the other hand met all of my expectations. The presentation, side dishes, and overall taste were fantastic. I can't wait to have it again on a date night. The sides (pastelito and tamales) were fantastic. Super flavorful. On vacation and staying nearby, got early reservations on a rainy night and the place was almost empty when we arrived. Several dishes were superb - oysters, foie gras, and flan were distinctive and memorable. All nicely presented with good service. Entrees a little more conventional but still no complaints. Enjoyed my basil and bergamot cocktail. Place was packed and getting a little loud by 7:30. But everyone having fun - a romantic night overall. A highlight of our trip. read more

Truly wanted to LOVE this Michelin starred resto - my first in Miami. Unfortunately, it just isn't up to snuff. The food, while some of it is absolutely delectable, often comes across as having muddled flavors and sadly left me and my dining partner unimpressed. Let's talk about the good: ambiance is lovely, it has a beautiful inside and outside patio, very modern and not "white glove/stuffy" if you know what I mean. Service was good! Dishes were served promptly, explained well, removed quickly, etc. all that one would expect! We had a bit of a snafu during dinner that we felt could have been handled better by the server but it is what it is. All in all, we felt generally well taken care of by the staff. And the food is really beautiful. The plating and presentation is top notch and I was very impressed. I think where Ariete unfortunately fails is in the execution of their dishes. Some are amazing and life changing, some have delicious aspects, and some are just meh. I came with my mom and we tried basically the entire menu sans meat. One thing I was disappointed by was that because I don't eat meat (though I do eat fish), neither me nor my mom were able to order the tasting menus. The server explained that all people at the table had to do the same tasting, and for those who don't eat meat, there aren't substitutions I guess. She suggested going a la carte. So we got the below... thoughts abound: bread/butter - DELICIOUS, so sweet and special, and order two if you can! wish i could learn how to do this at home crudo - nice fresh fish in a truly life changing lemony broth, but it was on top of a weird coconut gelatinous panna cotta. we really didn't think the fish / broth went well with the tasteless gelatin below it oysters - fine, but they really shined in the broths both were in (one uni and one bone marrow) again it felt confusing to put such a delicate thing as an oyster with such strong flavors scallop - the scallop itself was fine, nothing to write home about, but the mushroom cream sauce was savory and had a very lovely and strong deep flavor. delish! crab - right level of spice though couldn't really taste the crab with all the other components. absolutely loved fried potato cake (another item i wish i could eat at home) short rib - my mom ordered this and she was unimpressed, felt like it lacked flavor and ultimately sent it back fluke - i got this and really liked it though i was again confused by its components. liked the latin style bean stew, but felt the tasty fluke was overtaken by all the bean flavors. they just didn't compliment one another well! Loved the desserts! Got the cigar which has a really fun presentation and super tasty if you like chocolate and the fruit custard cake which was super interesting and had a lot of new flavors that i felt really blended nicely together. All in all, I'm glad I went, but I don't think I'll be back... no fault of the restaurant really.... I think the menu choices and flavors just weren't my thing! read more

my man and i felt zesty and decided to come to celebrate our anniversary here. the place was pretty yes, the lights on the trees at night are very beautiful to look at and the greenery blocks enough of the road to prevent it being a distraction. however, they said that reservations were spread thin, although the place was near empty. this was already not a good look. we show up for our reservation and all is well. the servers are very respectful and nice, almost cookie-cutter from one another. they were definitely quick to clean tables of debris and provide utensils, which was very nice. the menu has slim pickings in my opinion, and we weren't too amused by the selection. anyway, we ordered the short ribs and the venison. we cut right to the chase and skipped around the distracting appetizers to get to the nitty gritty. they gave us the little treats beforehand and the bread which were both very good. the bread was my favorite since it was warm and very soft with its accompanying spread. however, the food arrived. and i have to say that im picky with my meats. i understand this is a 'fancier' place, but to refuse to cook meat past what i consider to not even be 'medium', is bewildering. ive gone to nicer places and places as nice which still cook their meat more because, let's face it, they know how to. they're able to cook it more AND STILL keep the integrity of the meat as well as its juices and flavors. i was unamused by the venison and did not eat it. my man and his short rib- also unamused. there was nothing special to the dish. no amount of explanatory verbiage could distract from the fact that it was a plain dish with a random fusion croquette on the side the size of a cotton ball. to make a long story short: seems a bit short options wise, and the options we ate were plain. no flavor, no seasoning, no love to it. just plain. we got a box for the remaining food and we went somewhere else to eat after. we will not be returning but are thankful for this experience. read more

I was introduced to this Coconut Grove gem through a brunch group I go out with. We did our "last brunch of 2019" here and it was pretty epic! We were a very large group and not only did the staff accommodate us, but our waiterstaff, Jenny & Tim, were just astounding! Their price-fixed brunch menu is really where it's at here! The portion sizes and quality for the price cannot be beat! You will be stuffed! They also offer unlimited mimosas + sangria + bloody marys for $35; which is amazing considering if you get bored or tired of one you can switch back and forth and keep it interesting. I am not a bloody mary fan, but the sangria and mimosas were on point and they were not stingy w/the booze in either or the pours! I always had a glass during our 3hr brunch endeavor here! We were dining al-fresco. Another fantastic experience that is a must when coming here is trying their Walter Mercado cocktail! It's purple and you get a tarot card reading! It is a whole thing and so much fun! The actual cocktail itself is splendid in both taste and presentation! Well worth the price! After we had gorged on brunch, we ended up having to leave because they close for an hour to turn over for their Sunday dinner service. However, we were back 90mins later for their incredible happy hour! They have a happy hour on Sundays and it's pretty great! $1 oysters and great drink specials! We sat inside at the bar this time and, again, the staff were fantastic in accommodating our large group! Last Brunch of the year! It's the last brunch of the year so time to clink glasses, converse and cheer! Heard so much good stuff from our CM throughout the year, could not pass this up. Us brunchers descended upon this spot UYE style @ 11am sharp to partake in what became an epic day outdoors in their covered courtyard area with rustic wooden tables, trees, and more green space items. The comfy temperature was the icing on the cake! Service was awesome. From accommodating our large party moving tables to adding additional seating for the approximately 12 of us (although some were running late). The drinks easily flowed without waiting long. Speaking of drinks, if you want to have a higher-self experience then be sure to order the 'Walter Mercado' and ask Robert to make it. ;) Our group asked for 5 and he obliged. Food was served to us somewhat almost at the same time with just a hiccup or two for our main group of 7 (still waiting for latecomers) One person had to wait longer than the rest of us, while another (Elian) ordered a Cubana Madame which for some reason the roast pork was missing. Per his request, they brought out an alternate the 'Omlette Preparada' which includes ham croquette). Nonetheless, I was impressed how quickly all the food arrived given the size of our party. Our starter dish came out followed by what seem soon after our main entrees arrived! Afterward, they allowed us plenty of time to dine before asking if we were ready for dessert. Never felt rushed and even allowed to digest a tad before dessert was brought out. Nice! Onto the libations n food details! We started off with bottomless Mimosas/Sangria/Bloody Mary option ($24) and always love a place that allows the patron to pour their own amount of juice (OJ in this case) into the bubbly. Ty Ariete. Next up: I ordered from their Beltran's brunch menu for a reasonable $29, starting with their 'Ceviche' of papaya, sweet potato and local fish (hold thewa avocado). The flav was surprisingly strong and numbingly enjoyed each sip slurping bite. Very pleasant! The main dish I ordered the 'Frita Benedict' and shared swapped half with Gato's 'Chug Burger' (thanks Diandra for the sharing recommendation!) As my dish implies, two nicely poached eggs ontop of two small but thick frita patties and Sam's biscuits with lots of tiny classic restaurant made crispy Cuban fries aka papitas. Hollandaise classically rounds it out. NOTE: This dish came out while I was admiring my ceviche & Chug Burger so by the time I attempted to break into the eggs, the yolk had solidified. :( Still though, that frita flavor shined through while blending with the yolk, hollandaise and papitas. Nice texture differences! Onto the Chug Burger with half of it substantial! It was moist cheesy gooey n soft, the Chug Sauce has something going for itself. Dessert Time! My order was the Greek Yogurt Cheesecake with fresh berries n Jam and was in disbelief how good the taste and texture was! So good, reminded me how similar it was to a goat cheese roll wrapped in blueberries I get sometimes at a market. As our party swapped n shared, I say hands down that Flan was the devlish winner with ughmazing tastes of coffee, caramel and sea salt added. UGH I was too full to order an extra for meeself. Then tried the banana bread w fresh cut bananas toffee sauce and candied hazlenuts sprinkled ontop (did not know ahead of time there were hazlenuts). How wonderfully complex! The only thing he told me was that we were going to a Michelin star restaurant in Miami and I was worried I'd be underdressed! Even though the food is stellar the environment here is relaxed so I needn't have worried. Because dinner was a surprise I didn't have time to research the menu and the Yelp reviews to decide what to order like I normally do! In speaking with the waiter he recommended doing either the duck or the tasting menu. We decided on the tasting menu and because we were celebrating they were kind enough to let us order the classic and the modern! I heard so many good things about this Coconut Grove restaurant that when I visited my daughter and family in Miami I knew we had to dine here. Ariete is an elevated American Cuisine with Cuban influence mixed with chef Beltran french culinary training in a casual relaxing setting. The staff are all very well trained, and extremely attentive. They didn't miss a beat! There's valet parking which I highly recommend. The trees on the street are lit up with blue lights. Ariete has outdoor terrace seating where you can take in the lush plants of Coconut Grove, and the vibe of the area. It's located right next door to their sister restaurant Navé, same owners different type of food. There is happy hour everyday Monday thru Friday 5p-7p.and a limited menu. Once inside I could see how all the staff work so well with one another to help make my experience memorable. I started with a gin signature cocktail with egg whites and elderflower, it was so good I had several. I started with several appetizers. A Charcuterie platter made up HUMBOLDT FOG goat cheese, aged 2 months HARBISON-cows milk, soft-ripened, aged 6-13 BAYLEY HAZEN-bleu cheese, aged 3-4 months and drizzled with local honey, DUCK & FOIE PATE-dark rum, marsala gelée, MORCILLA spanish-style blood sausage, with hazelnut smoked maple, and their Venison sausage I could eat all day long. Next I had BEEF HEART TARTARE-smoked oyster aioli, herb salad, oyster toast. It was fresh and delicious. Next, OUR FLORIDA ORANGE chicken foie mousse, duck and sour orange pate, chocolate dirt, mint, white bread WOOD GRILLED OYSTERS with BONE MARROW BUTTER. It cool take on oysters. For my main dish I chose their special signature dish. CANARD A LA PRESSE ROHAN DUCK FOR TWO 20 day dry aged duck breast, pistachio dukkah duck tamale, wild mushroom gravy pastelitos of duck fricassée, green salad. Ariete is one of only four restaurants in the U.S. carrying out what is known traditionally in France as The Duck Press. The Rohan Duck is dry-aged for approximately 20 days and lightly glazed with guarapo and local honey. It comes with three sides. This is done at tableside for the experience.The duck was perfectly cooked and the sauce that was created by pressing the duck breast and collecting the juices to make the gravy was outstanding! For dessert we shared FLAN- candy cap mushrooms, sambuca crema, bustelo crumble. This was good and had a nice twist. CORN FINANCIER brown butter semifreddo, caramelized popped sorghum it tasted like I was eating caramel popcorn it was so good I felt like a kid again. I've wanted to come to this restaurant for a while now and finally we were able to have a nice brunch here. It's definitely not on the economical side since it's located in the heart of coconut grove but the prices are pretty fair, overall, we enjoyed all the dishes and flavors, they nailed the eggs on the frita Benedict, it was definitely my favorite, the bacon was crisp and the creme brulee french toast had just the right amount of sweetness. I only wish they offered more options for brunch, the menu is very limited. However I definitely recommend it if you are nearby. read more

Ariete has easily become my favorite restaurant in Coconut Grove! -From the staff, to the ambiance to the decor... everything was perfection. Actually, I'm lying, the parking situation sucks, but Ariete cannot control that LOL. My friend and I were excited for dinner and he made an 8:30 pm reservation on a Saturday night. We were greeted by a warm friendly smile from the host who sat us to our seats right away. Our server, Elizabeth, was the absolute sweetest! She was Incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and even gave us a few recommendations. The interior is very romantic and rustic (perfect place for a date). The food... how can I describe it... if I were on death row THIS menu would be my last meal! Elizabeth told us the menu changes seasonally, so we were really excited to try some new items. Naturally, I forgot to take a picture of the new fall menu (I blame my friend). What should you order? Ariete easily became my favorite happy hour spot in Coconut Grove ever since I visited for the first time last month. I'm actually disappointed at myself for not visiting sooner because my fellow Yelpers have been raving about this place for years. Well now, I'm a loyal patron and I try to stop in every week to enjoy their well-crafted cocktails, bar bites and $1.50 Oysters with Bone Marrow Butter. Yum! My favorite HH cocktails here are the Dimelo Viejo and Ron Magil. The bartenders here are consistent and they just do it right. Select cocktails including these two are only $9 each. They also offer other cocktails for 25% off. Besides the oysters, I've had the Fish taco and Fritas. The taco is $6 each so it might be a little steep but it's so worth it. It's a pretty big portion too. The Frita sliders are a must and they're only $5 each. I recommend the Korean with house-made kimchi, cucumber, and scallion aioli. OMG. It's super tasty. My other recent favorite is the Beef Tongue Tartine. It's just full of flavor in every bite. I love this place and will keep coming back until I tasted all the HH offerings..lol :) I also have plans to try their Miami Spice but I need to gather my group. Unequivocally one of the best (two) meals we've ever had. We popped in early on a Sunday beating all of the late night partiers, so we were seated outside right away without a reservation. The outdoor dining is very sweet in its tropical setting; since we had been shoveling snow the weekend prior back home, we were in Heaven sitting outside. Our server was Casey. She was an absolute delight. We started off with some pretty great drinks that actually had alcohol in them, cheers to that. And then ordered our brunch. While we waited we were served crisp fried Brioche bread with a passion fruit butter that I wanted to eat with a spoon, please put this in a jar and sell it, you'd make a fortune. At brunch there is a Prix Fixe menu, you choose three items for your meal. I ordered: Candied bacon (Outstanding and packed with flavor, eat it with the tomatoes or you will miss out) Duck and Waffles (Better then the duck I had at Eleven Madison Park a few years back) and the Brulee Pain Perdue as dessert (A fluffy layered treat of sticky yumminess). My husband had: The oysters (I've never met an oyster that I liked...until now) Frita Benedict (I did not sample this one but he ate every morsel) and the Candy Cap Flan (I ended up eating most of it. It was insanely good). We were taking pictures of our food and joked with Casey that it wasn't for social media but to send to our kids. Not having grandchildren we send food pictures to each other instead. I told her we were a family of, "Food Geeks." Recognizing like minded souls, she was very happy to discuss the menu with us and was extremely knowledgeable about the ingredients. She also invited us back to try their dinner tasting menu. We made a reservation right then and there. I have written so much about our brunch that I will spare you the superlatives about dinner. But I will say that the tasting menu meal ranks in the top five best meals we've ever had (Are you listening MICHELIN?) The Foie gra with white chocolate was probably the best thing I've ever eaten. IN. MY. LIFE. And I don't normally enjoy Foie gra. Now, to be honest. I will say that I did not care for the snapper dish as much as everything else, it just needed a tiny bit of Oomph, my husband was of the same opinion. But this is the only item of the two meals that we felt needed a little tweaking. Thank you to Casey, our lovely server, who was a savant when it came to the ingredients, and who "Got us" in our effusive joy over the layers and technique used in our food. And to Jeff the Sommelier who recognized my husband's knowledge of wine and instead of "Competing" with him over the wine menu, added to his choices with well thought out suggestions and enthusiastic praise. And to the wizard of a Mixologist behind the bar (Whose name I did not get) who made me delicious Mocktails exactly as I like, since I don't drink at night. I will wrap up this ridiculously long review by saying this, the whole meal was sensational, with some of the best, unobtrusive, five star quality service we've encountered. A knowledgeable, well trained staff, that is bought in to the food they're serving, who are also, "Food geeks" and want nothing more for you to love your meal, goes a long way toward a wonderful, joyful experience. If you haven't been following the powerful path taken by Coconut Grove's chef Michael Beltran, you need to start paying attention. After years of working and learning alongside many notable Miami legends, cue chefs Norman Van Aken and Michael Schwartz, Beltran finally opened his first restaurant in 2016. The road, hurdled with rising tides and gusty winds, proved challenging, to say the least. Finding Ariete's stable groove took several years. Setbacks, including the more recent pandemic ones, took a toll and solidified his passion and determination. The one thing that never quite changed was his tunnel vision and tenacity. Inside Ariete, dimly lit interiors give off a moody, speakeasy vibe. The open kitchen, visible from every indoor seat, allows the guests to watch as the service firestorm ignites: guaranteed nonstop action. The playlist, complete with artists of prohibition-era blues, and classics like Benny Moré, Celia Cruz, and Cheo Feliciano, prompts midbite swaying and occasional instinctual foot tapping. Choosing what to order from the ever-changing menu is never easy. Not only is every dish obsessively conceptualized and executed, but each gives way to new taste profiles. Often, this means showcasing the feisty Cuban side of Miami: Menu OG velvety Foie Gras atop perfectly ripened platanitos maduros (pero, now en pavé form, and with a sour orange temptation caramel), comforting yet lavish Tamal en Cazuela (pero con sea urchin), rich and buttery Whole Roasted Chicken with plantain polenta (and a surprise stuffed chicken wing inside). Cuban-American chef Michael Beltran has successfully captured the almost impossible-to-achieve art of beloved abuelita-inspired soul food created with an impactful, ambitious hand: Spanglish fine dining and beyond. About a year pre-pandemic was when Ariete truly began expanding its menu and offering more to its diners. Cheese and charcuterie? Got it. Caviar service? Got that too. A cart ("carrito") for Miami's sole unforgettable tableside Rohan Duck Press (14-day, dry-aged duck breast, pistachio dukkah, duck tamale, wild mushroom gravy, pastelitos of duck fricassée, green salad)? You bet. A Guest List dinner series began, where local chefs popped in to collaborate for the night. Notably, the first Ariete Tasting Menu rollout, an all Vegetable Dinner Series, emerged as well. Weeks before life as we knew it stopped for the world, Miami's dining scene was unstoppable. Beltran and many other of our city's hardest-working elites were nominated for the James Beard Awards in the Best Chef: South2020 category. By the time Covid hit, the pivot game had become crucial and very real for the industry; that nomination honor seemed lackluster in comparison. After hustling hard during the state-mandated quarantine, Miami restaurants eventually reopened and were left to examine the perilous aftermath. Naturally, Beltran's answer was to finally slow down, take a deep breath, gather his thoughts, and approach with caution. Ha! Kidding. He decided instead to bring back his Tasting Menu Dinner Series nights even with limited seating capacity laws, and county curfews. This time, he kicked off with an ode to Cuban poet Jose Martí and titled his tasting menu, Versos Sencillos. The food --experimental, elegant, and creative-- showed off the continued evolution of a chef refusing to conform to any rules, and admirably competing only with himself, in a world of cook-for-IG-likes-and-fame. Today, Versos Sencillos continues rotating seasonally, and a new Versos Diarios sits royally as an option on the main menu. I have lost count of the many times I have visited Ariete through the years. When I name it one of my "tried and true" spots, I mean it. I usually start with the Foie Gras. It's the bite that caught my attention during my very first visit, and I have never lost interest. The only reason I would not order the foie, would be to go for the new Florida Orange. Debuting during one of the dinner series, it quickly became a signature dish and permanent menu item (chicken foie mousse, duck, and sour orange pate). The Pastrami Style Short Rib has sat on my Top Bites list for years. The accompanying Shaved Vegetable Caesar makes a flawless side. There is enough dressing to cover every bite and I enjoy the temperature mix between the two. There is no need to add anything else, but did I really visit Ariete if I didn't order a side of the Creamed Yucca? Oye, this is next level. To finish, the Candy Cap Mushroom Flan (sambuca crema, and Bustelo crumble) is a no-brainer. I'm not easy to please when it comes to flan, but this one is a winner. I tend to add one more dessert out of the rotating ones genius pastry chef, Devin Braddock, lists on the menu. Honestly, you just can't go wrong with any of them. My husband and I chose Ariete for date night, as we recently love doing chef tasting menus - it really helps you try so many things and pushes you outside of your comfort zone! We started with two cocktails, that were fine, and also shared two half bottles throughout the evening - one red and one white. The somm was fantastic, explaining the wine and allowing us to taste before committing. Now, on to the food... Their tasting menu changes periodically, but ours was exceptional. On top of the tasting menu, we also opting for an additional course (for $35pp) to try to restaurant's duck - and see the duck press in action. We were told only 6 restaurants in the world have this machine and have it on the menu regularly. amuse bouche // an exceptional little bite to get us started; as my husband kept saying...his palate was amused. sunflower // the sunflower panna cotta - YUM - and that presentation is gorgeous scallop // this was one of my husband's favorite items of the night; I loved the combination of basil oil and coconut milk the farmer // this was one of my favorite items of the night; first, the plating is fantastic, but the vegetables with the goat cheese was so refreshing and light foie & guava mosiac // this was actually both of our first times trying foie torchon, and we understand why it is such a delicacy; this reminded us of french toast with the guava and white chocolate touches snapper // crispy skin and delicious sauce rohan duck // omg. this was my favorite thing of the night; I would come back to try the full duck experience because this was cooked to perfection waygu short rib // also a favorite for my husband, but I thought it was just fine (missed a photo of it - oops!) palate cleanser // I also missed the photo here, but it was a passionfruit flavored cleanser and was light and yummy corn financier // honestly, just a delicious caramel ice cream and popcorn dessert to finish off the night; it was light and not too heavy Finally, I have to give a personal shoutout to Yvonne - she was a fantastic server; answering all of our questions, moving a fan when needed (we sat outside), and generally being so attentive. Worth the drive to the grove if you live in Broward. Second time here and I know it won't be the last. Quaint place with lots of outdoors plants and seating, the two times we sat outside. Just make sure you use bug spray, if you are like me that attracts the damn mosquitos, the mosquitos will get you. On the bright side, the service was amazing. The food was spectacular! My favorite was the foie gras with a maduro (fried plantain) on the bottom, I could eat like 10 pieces but I know that's not healthy. The oysters were also tasty, I preferred the bone marrow butter than the sea urchin butter one. We were with a large party so we tried pretty much tried the whole menu and everything was perfect. The tamal en cazuela and the scallops were also part of my favorite appetizers. My favorite entrees were the snapper, the Wagyu short rib (yum) and the venison, I wasn't too crazy about the lamb but most people liked them. The Michellin Stars are well deserved! This was my first time at Ariete. It was my husband's birthday and I wanted to try something new. This was certainly the place. Everything we tasted was amazing and had a twist. It was in fact French cuisine meets Latin/Caribbean cuisine. We had the Champagne Scallop (it is only one) which was absolutely delicious. We wanted to order another, but decided to wait for the Florida Orange which is a crazy interesting and delicious ball of pate and duck meat made to look like an orange. I had the Snapper in a delicious sauce with chunks of malanga (I think). My husband had the Pork Chop with a sauce to die for, and it was a large cut. By the time he got to that he was full and had to take some home. The brioche bread with the dried tomato sofrito butter is something special. My husband had a chocolate dessert which he loved (don't remember the name) and I had the flan, which was way beyond the traditional South Florida flan. I was more like flan met creme brûlée. Loved it! The service was outstanding. The servers all seem to work together to make the experience impeccable. Our main server was Cristina, who was lovely. The ambience is nice, but not stuffy. The only thing I did't like is that there are no salads or any other significant vegetables on this menu. I came here for Valentine's Day. I had never heard of them before and found it on a random blog post "best Valentine's Day plans in miami." I booked it because I loved the pictures on Instagram and holy guacamole aren't I glad I found this place. Chef Beltran tested my pallet! When reading the menu I was a bit confused with some of his flavor pairing like short rib with oysters, but it was AMAZING. My favorite dish when it comes to flavor was the cream of malanga, that thing was sensational, I want more! This place was awesome.
