The food at Ariete was fine, but the overall experience did not meet Michelin-star standards. I visited to celebrate a birthday (which I clearly noted in my reservation), yet no one acknowledged it throughout the meal. The space also felt crowded, with tables placed very close to one another and only one shared restroom for all guests. When the duck dish was prepared tableside, it was done uncomfortably close to me -- to the point that it felt unsafe. For the price and reputation, I expected much more care and attention to detail. Finally went for a full dinner! Definitely the best foie gras I've had in recent memory! The texture combined with the flavor of the sour orange caramel had it melting right on the tongue and prompting me to close my eyes. The platano was a fantastic accompaniment too. The amouse bouche might have been one of the best I've ever had! Light yet packed with flavor. We did the canard a la presse which was exciting for me as a lover of duck. The resulting sauce over the extremely tender and juicy duck was next level. I loved the sides it was served with too. Both the duck pastelito and pastele completely surprised me. The pastelito had such great flavor and was so tender and the pastele was a perfect texture and delicious. I also got the venison which had yummy mushrooms and truffle potatoes but wish the whole potato was truffle! The venison was very tender. For dessert I appreciated their play on mango sticky rice with mango and passion fruit, coconut, rice and Thai basil. So much better than I was expecting! It was the chocolate manjari shell cigar for me though, as it had my favorite: hazelnut praline. The entire dinner was delicious but didn't feel too filling. I loved the French Syrah wine served. The service was warm, accommodating and the canard presse presentation was so very cool, I learned a lot! The restaurant is beautiful and it's fun to have the open kitchen. All I have to say is Wow!! Tried this restaurant for the first time with guest that we're visiting from outside the country. Everyone was very impressed by the "white glove" service. It was as truly outstanding!! Our server Luz was delightful. Everyone else was very knowledgeable, from the Sommelier m, the other servers & the gentleman who pressed our duck table side was the star of the show! The duck was rich, succulent and absolutely amazing! It was truly an experience to watch & eat. The accompaniments were very creative. Lettuce salad to cleanse the palate & the mushroom tamales were an excellent touch. The wine that was suggested paired perfectly with the meal. The place is small but cozy. Definitely worthy of its Michelin star, this is a must-visit for innovative Nuevo Latino cuisine. If you can afford it, do the full tasting menu (Versos Modernos). The scallop with green strawberries, thai basil, and strawberry consomme is an example of the creative, harmonious excellence you will sample. The stone crab, foie mosaic, homestead yuca, and pan con bistec (miyazaki a5 ribeye) were all equally stellar. The only dish that didn't quite work was the caviar with caramelized plantain and lobster jus, because the plantain overpowered the subtle caviar and lobster jus. The "cigar" dessert is one of the best chocolate desserts we've ever had, consisting of manjari shell, hazelnut praline, gianduja mousse, and espresso ice cream cleverly served in a cigar box. The wine list is excellent. To attain two or three stars in the future, a few issues will need to be addressed: 1) the music was far too loud (both we and an adjacent table had to ask to turn down the volume; 2) the lights were lowered so much mid-meal that we couldn't see our food, and we had to ask for the lights to be be turned back up; and 3) we're not big fans of the flat 20% service charge; although the service was excellent, it defeats incentivizing good service. Despite the latter issues, this is a top-flight culinary destination in South Florida, and we look forward to enjoying Chef's Beltran's innovations again soon. read more

I went to this restaurant on Valentine's Day with my husband and deeply regretted it. Despite high expectations from positive Yelp comments, our night turned into a disappointing disaster. The tightly packed table setup, uncomfortable proximity of the chef cooking, and average meals didn't live up to the anticipated experience. I get that they cook the duck meal right by your table but the chef prepared it literally 6" away from me where I felt so uncomfortable and couldn't enjoy my dinner. Mind you that he wasn't even cooking for us but another table at the moment and having that fire and hot pans right in my face made me feel overly nervous! Meals were okay nothing special for the price. Service wasn't great either. No one came and asked if we needed anything after they took the orders. It was a hustle to order a second drink. For a Michelin, this place is just ok. We have been a couple times and both times were underwhelming. There are a few good dishes like the duck and the snapper. The ambiance is nice; laid back and casual. Service is excellent. Drinks are ok, nothing special but have nice wine list. We went with kids second time. Couldn't bring in stroller, they have high chairs and didn't really have dishes that would work for them. We got the chicken for them to share. Wouldn't recommend as a great place for them but it's doable. read more

Had an exceptional experience at Ariete at a private event hosted by the "Bilt" credit card dining program. We were hosted in their spacious downstairs private cellar room, which had beautiful stone walls, a private bathroom, with a table beautifully set with floral centerpieces. This is a great space to host events, just be mindful cell service could be spotty depending on which carrier you have (but isn't it a good thing to unplug?). We were treated to a variety of their menu items, organized in four different courses, along with an amuse bouche and bread service. Everything was delicious but some of the standouts were "the farmer" (a delicious and innovative salad that included sesame paste with activated charcoal and a beet honeycomb), the venison tartare (have never had a venison version of tartare - very tasty!), the "arroz con pollo" chicken dish (chicken was great but especially loved the cachucha pepper stuffed with rice), the pastrami style short rib (flavorful and soft) and the guayaba y queso for dessert (light with a very pleasant tang). We also had a wine pairing during our dinner where the restaurant's team explained each pairing and why they were selected to go with the courses. Nobody's glass was ever empty, the team was on it! One of the wines included a red blend the restaurant partnered on with the "Sanguis" vineyard, including original label art. Our party all loved this one so much that we each took home a bottle. I never write reviews anymore, but I couldn't resist writing one for Ariete. Was my dining experience perfect? No, a small thing was one of the dishes in my Amuse Bouche definitely incorrectly explained. Outside of that though service was flawless; shout out to Holly for being the best. If you like hustle and bustle sit inside; as a solo dinner I like watching the kitchen at work so that was fun for me. If you're looking to have conversation I highly recommend their patio. It's loud and busy inside, which I love. It's not for everyone though. As for food the Modern tasting is stunning. Of course I didn't love every dish, but boy was it beautiful and tasty. The menu is flavor packed! I was throughly impressed at how things were season and spiced. The things I like the least were cocktails. That's okay though; they just leaned way too sweet for me. We came here for their Sunday Brunch. Giving that they have a Michelin star I was beyond excited. But to be honest the food felt short. While I could tell that everything was cooked to perfection, some flavor was lacking. I think I either needed more substance or more flavor altogether. Ariete offers both a la carte as well as $145 and $165 pp tasting menus with $75 or $95 pp wine pairing options. Along with a large variety of seafood options, one can find such offerings as Foie Gras, Venison, Wagyu Short Rib and a very specially prepared Duck. After a small amuse bouche and a delicious bread, we began with the wood grilled oysters with bone marrow butter, chives and charred lime. Simple and simply delicious. You can also choose from another preparation using sea urchin ($24 for 6) Next we had the langoustine with green mango, labneh, pine nuts, Fresno and passion fruit jus. You will want to use a spoon to get every last drop of the sauce ($32). Next up we choose the Duck. Bertran claims Ariete's Duck Press, widely used in France, is one of only four in the US. We enjoyed watching the preparation of the Canard a La Press for Two, $135, using that press, and the finished product was outstanding. The Rohan Duck is aged around 20 days and then glazed with a sugar cane liquid and local honey. The duck press creates the base for a memorable sauce which you will want to sop up with the soft pastelitos provided. The accompanying green salad was light and well balanced. The duck is also served with a corn tamale containing pulled duck and mushrooms. The tamale was my least favorite part of the meal, I'm just not a tamale fan. The nine page wine list includes something for every palate. If you prefer New World you can find such gems as Aubert and Peter Michael as well as less expensive Turleys, but if you're a fan of Old World there is an ample selection from France, Spain and Italy, a nice Champagne list, 15 choices of half bottles to make wine pairing easier for two people or smaller groups, as well as about 16 choices by the glass. Since the restaurant does not put the wine list up on their website I took pictures of it for the oenophiles reading this. Average prices are about two times retail. I'm not a Millennial so I would have preferred softer music, Jazz, Classical, or Bassa Nova rather than Rock to accompany such an elegant meal. But other than that I don't have too many complaints. Even though I live an hour away from Ariete, I look forward to my next visits so I can continue to explore the menu and talents of Chef Beltran. My friend and I ordered their black tea gin drink, which sounds odd but is delicious--herbaceous and refreshing. They brought us a carrot crunchy concoction with papitas on top before the AMAZING bread/butter came out. I ordered the crudo as my appetizer, which was very tasty. My friend ordered The Farmer, which had a different/unique taste with each bite you took. The duck Wellington was totally different than any kind of duck dish I've ever ordered...looks kind of like meatloaf but I promise it's yummy (just know this is not crispy duck in case that's what you're expecting). It comes encased in a pastry-like exterior and the zucchini and puree were oh so tasty too. My friend ordered the trout (not pictured), which she was pleased with. The presentation was lovely too. We both enjoyed the flan for dessert. It was so different from your typical flan that it almost felt like its own unique custardy dessert altogether. Talk about creamy! Dining here is like eating Cuban food in an alternate dimension. This restaurant existing is a middle finger to a movement that ravaged an island and displaced an entire population. You will not find food like this literally anywhere on the planet. It is incredibly hard to find a restaurant using a duck press. It is actually impossible to find a restaurant using a duck press to make a freaking PASTELITO. Ariete is THE Miami Michelin tasting. There are plenty of other great restaurants in the guide but those are restaurants located in Miami. Ariete is Miami. I dined at Ariete with a group of 5 and would have usually opted for tasting menu but the canard a la presse caught our eyes when looking at the dining options. We had the grilled oysters, crudo, the farmer, king crab, foie gras, pork chop, and the canard a la presse. In addition we got the flan and cigar for dessert. The standouts for me were the crudo, foie gras, and the duck. The crudo had this refreshing pickled papaya and lychee leche de tigre, the flavor combination was great and fresh. The foie gras was paired with a caramel and cocoa nibs and was delectable. The true star for me was the duck. The duck press is this medieval contraption that they bring table side along with other items to make a sauce for the duck. The duck press is used to press the liver and the juices are mixed with herbs and jam to make this decadent sauce that goes with perfectly cooked pieces of duck. The duck comes with some side dishes that pair well, my highlight was the tamal. This is a top 4 dish for me and I'll be thinking about it for a while. In addition to the food, the service was great and attentive. The space was cozy and intimate. This is a must go to restaurant in Miami and absolutely deserves a Michelin star. read more

Lucked out and got a table for brunch here on Sunday. My friend from NY wanted a place with good food and latin flare, which you would think is easy to find, but the 2 together are very hard to come by. I remembered having an amazing dinner here so thought brunch would be similar. And it did not disappoint. We started with the biscuits and bacon. Oh that cream cheesy spread and the savory sweetness of the biscuit was perfection. The thick cut bacon was good and by the time our main dishes came out, we were a little full. I ate on of my frita benedicts which was so good. Have the other one the next day, threw it in the toast oven and it was just as good. My friend had the pork y harina. Since she was flying out that eve, I took her leftovers and devoured them. Loved the outdoor seating. Service was EXCELLENT. Like going above and beyond and loving what they do type of service. Saturday evening and found restaurant surprisingly not busy so overall service surely could've been better. Enjoyed the champagne scallop and foie gras, disappointed in the venison. Just didn't taste like venison at all, pretty regular taste at that and not so great, not sure what was done. The short rib a little better but not much either. First time there many months ago the service was pretty awful as the main server disappeared. So this was the second chance. Really don't see the high praises noted by others. As for Michelin, please, besides Michelin these days is paid by the Florida, and the Orlando, and the Miami Tourism boards a couple million to be in the state specifically to hand out stars. This was my favorite restaurant during its first few years of operation, but along the road to empire building and Michelin stars it's lost its heart. The actual bones of the place - the architecture and ambiance - are still there. But there's no longer anything living inside. The service is now somber deliberate, and the food, while still creative, now feels like it's conceived with prestige in mind rather than conveying the soulfulness that was so charming in the early days. It was my wife's birthday and I wanted to make sure we didn't only have a good meal but an experience. I looked at the reviews and read the recent Michelin guide that had given Ariete positive reviews. We arrived a bit early and waited at the bar while our table was ready. I was surprised they had a wide selection of Tequila especially Fortaleza. After a few shows and a terrific Mezcal Old Fashion and Passion Fruit Margarita we were seated. It was a short wait, maybe 10 min. We were seated outside per request, our waiter/ server was such a pleasure. Very friendly, courteous and knowledgeable of the menu. Everyone had a positive attitude and knowledge of each course, with proper explanation and great etiquette. We started with a dozen oysters. Great flavor, especially when you add the chard lime over. We also went with the Wahoo which was exceptional, highly recommend when you take a bite add the capers and gelatina. For our main, I went with the Venison. It was sensational, perfect medium to rare cook paired with truffle mash that was exquisite. My wife had the Grouper Encendido, wow! So flaky and flavorful, paired with dirty rice, make sure to mix it with the papaya for an extra kick. For dessert we went with the cigar, which I recommend for chocolate lovers. Wow! What. An. Experience! It's been several years since we've dined at Ariete. We recently booked a reservation for my fiancées birthday. Helmed by Chef Michael Beltran and his expert team, Ariete's menu is constantly evolving with its American-Cuban fusion dishes that have a tad bit of French influence. This earned them a Michelin Star in 2022. Based on the experience we had, this is something we're certainly expecting them to keep! We decided to book her birthday reservation on her exact birthday during the week since weekend reservations were slammed. The ambiance was very relaxed-- perfectly matching the vibe of Coconut Grove. Up scale and intimate, but cozy, and far from pretentious. To commence the evening, she ordered an Espresso Martini while I went with the North Star (rye, french brandy, coffee bean banana, bitters). Despite the Espresso Martini being a "simple" cocktail any bar can make, Ariete's stood out. It must've been made with Cuban coffee espresso! My North Star was delicious and tasted like a sweeter Old Fashioned with hints of banana. Our server also brought us a delicious amouse bouche, which consisted of a tart topped with a creamy concoction made with garlic and veggies. It was very tasty and a good sign for the culinary experience we were about to embark on! For appetizer, we decided on the Mackerel, since this is a fish we haven't seen offered in "sashimi" form at other restaurants we've been to. Needless to say, the fish was delicious! For the main event, we decided on the Canard A La Presse/Rohan Duck For Two. Ariete is one of a handful of restaurants in the United States that has a duck press. This is something you MUST experience! We were shown our duck table side, prior to it being taken back for preparation, and brought out later with the duck press to be served. This experience will take some time and consists of several "mini-courses" that use duck before the slices of duck breast are brought out, including the Ariete salad, pistachio dukkah roasted calabaza duck tamal, duck fricassée pastelitos, and a wild mushroom and foie gravy sauce. Each dish is excellent, building up to the main event. The final 14-day dry aged duck breast is absolutely out of this world! It is one of the best protein dishes I've consumed and certainly the best duck I've had in Miami. It is cooked and seasoned so perfectly. The duck meat is self is so tender and melts in your mouth, almost or as if it serve a slice of Wagyu beef! By the end of dinner, my fiancée and I were satisfied and had to leave because her mom was cutting a cake. Nonetheless, the kitchen sent over some small treats (a lemon gummy-like treat as well as a a dark chocolate truffle) to end our meal for her birthday. It was a nice touch. The team at Ariete and PIG Inc Hospitality are really masters of their craft. No detail goes unnoticed, from the service received, to food presentation, and taste. My first visit dates back to when they had just opened up. Even tho it had been a long time since I had gone I decided to go for drinks with my friend. I had the Mango & Tamarind cocktail which was excellent and my friend a mojito which she loved. The service was amazing, our served Manon is the absolute best, If you have the chance to meet her you'll have a flawless experience. We are from out of town and came for a birthday dinner while on vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I would say it meets expectations for a Michelin starred restaurant but doesn't necessarily standout in my mind. I appreciated that there was a lot of attention to detail in the whole experience. Our waiter did an excellent job and was very attentive without being overly intrusive, which I've sometimes found to be the case at fine dining establishments. I am pregnant and he gave sound recommendations without forcing his opinion on me. I had an experience at another restaurant in Miami where they just took out the raw items in the tasting menu for me even though I told them to just bring them and I would make a decision about whether I wanted to eat it or share it with my partner. I appreciated that he took a more accommodating approach rather than being a hard liner about rules. For instance because I was trying to avoid raw food I wasn't planning to do the tasting menu but my husband was considering it. He told me that they usually require everyone at the table to do a tasting menu but was willing to ask if an exception could be made for me. While we ended up just ordering a la carte, I appreciated his effort in making sure we had the experience we wanted. He even went to the trouble of asking the kitchen if they could do the lamb more well done for me -- although I ultimately decided just to go with the chicken and not ruin a perfectly good piece of meat. I will say I was a little disappointed with the chicken. There was nothing wrong with it, but it wasn't really standout the way that many of their other dishes were. All the appetizers we ordered were outstanding. I loved the oysters- the whole presentation as well as flavor were spot on-- although I personally feel like oysters are wonderful even when you literally do nothing to them so hard to mess them up. The farmer- mixed veggies-- was probably my favorite dish of the night. We ordered one to share and I wish we had ordered one per person. Every vegetable on that plate was just so tasty and well prepared. The sweet sauce that they plated underneath felt like a dessert sauce but it somehow worked well for this dish. The lobster risotto was good--although as a shared appetizer I wasn't left wishing that we had ordered two. My husband ordered the scallops (entree) that he also thoroughly enjoyed. Although I would say from the bites that I tasted -- pretty standard scallop dish. Hard to do scallops poorly as long as you don't overcook them. The dessert honestly felt a little like a dressed up ice cream sandwich. It did have some complex flavors to it that made me feel like it was Michelin star restaurant quality. Things I wish they had. I think these days a lot of people aren't drinking alcohol but still enjoy a fancy drink. I wish they had some nice mocktails or NA wines. I don't feel like leaving the alcohol out of their cocktails is a sufficient mocktail substitute. Many places now have some nonalcoholic liquors like seedlip or ritual that they'll do cocktails with. I also have had some amazing na wines and hope they would consider looking into having that. Also sad they didn't have decaf coffee which we totally would have ordered to pair with our dessert. Our experience at Ariete feels deserving of its Michelin star. I felt ordering off their menu a la carte was reasonably priced for the quality of food we got. Went here for a special dinner that was being hosted by Bilt for Rent Day and was blown away. We were treated to a special menu with a special wine pairing that was curated by the restaurant owner and chef, and we were given plenty of details and explanation as we were walked through each course. The venison tartare and foie course was my favorite but everything was absolutely amazing. Additionally, we were lucky enough to get to experience the dark, moody ambiance of the wine cellar to enjoy our meal, which was a very cool experience and would definitely recommend checking out for your private events! read more

Fantastic food. Service was great also. They have cool indoor or outdoor seating. I had a pastellito which was amazing. Check out my photos I had Turkish eggs, which was basically poached eggs that came with tzatziki, a tahini mole and amazing grilled bread. We also had crepes. My only complaint is they don't have regular coffee. They do Americano which is just watered down espresso. So I had a double espresso instead. Check out the photos! read more

Very disappointed in the overall experience. I'm not a negative guy. The dish I had, the pork, exquisite. My wife had the fish, loved it! Our server, 'seemed' but was , honestly, somewhat, I don't know, not genuine. We ordered light dishes, not her much larger, multi-course suggestions. As it turned out, the main courses were more than enough. But the coups de gracè was when she suggested a Pinot Noir that none of the 4 that wanted a Pinot Noir liked, told her so, and she left the half bottle on the table as If it were dirty handkerchief with bad stuff in it (I could easily be more graphic here but I won't) and ordered another bottle that we drank all of and they still charged us for the other bottle. Now in her defense, after telling her when we were leaving, walking out the door, that we had not it liked it, she offered to take it off our bill and I said no. It isn't about the $145, it was and it is the service as it relates to her universal reaction to the disappointing wine. She acted as if we had said nothing, took our order for the next bottle and served it. The half consumed bottle was sitting on the table when we walked out. Very disappointing. read more

A "must" in Miami! I recently went back here once they got their Michelin star, and my experience definitely confirmed that they are very deserving of that recognition. We started off with the baked oysters which were absolutely mouth watering. I had the venison and it was delicious. The sommelier picked out an amazing wine selection for everyone. My favorite part, hands down, was the flan. I could come back here every night just for the flan. read more

I joined for dinner during Miami Spice month (Pre-fix menu dinner program) so the pricing was definitely amazing. Even without the speciality menu pricing, I'd return here in a heartbeat. The hospitality was superb, the food amazing. Even as a solo diner, I felt a very warm welcome and appreciation from the team. Ariete was our first, but hopefully, not the last Michelin-starred restaurant outside of Chicago, and they lived up to the hype! Let me start by complimenting the outstanding service the whole staff provided, though, a special shout-out to Yvonne who set the tone for the whole night. Professional, yet, laid-back, she struck a great balance and made us feel comfortable, but with the care and attention of a fine dining restaurant; some of the best service we have ever experienced. The food reached these heights as well, with the Langoustine dish being one of our early favorites, only to be later topped by the Rohan Duck. Both were fantastic dishes in presentation, thought, and flavor. The Cigar dessert was everything you could want in a dessert and more. The other dishes were good, but not as outstanding as the ones I mentioned, with the Squab being the least favorite dish we ate. A special note on the non-alcoholic pairings: try one.
