We were here today to check out some recurve bow for our kids. Daniel and the owner were very knowledgeable and really helpful to answer all of our questions. They let our kids to try out couple different bows as we does not have much idea about archery. I'm new to archery and originally had bought my bow and accessories at an online store due to the COVID-19. I was very excited to hear that Archery Only was allowed to open back up (while maintaining social distancing) so I hopped in here the first chance I could! I told the owner I was a novice and he helped me pick out some arrows that would fit my bow and were good for beginners. He was super sweet and friendly, and made the whole experience very inviting. Solid , clean, organized pro shop and range. They just moved over to larger shop next to their old one. Wayne knows his stuff and doesn't try to upsell you on gear which is a refreshing breath of fresh air. Stopped by to use their range and ended up liking a Carbon Tech compound so much I walked out the door with it. Sure you can find better prices online, but purchases here come with free range time and the attentiveness and awesome customer service you won't find on Amazon. This place was great! I went with my boxing team and it was a first for most of us. The staff there is very helpful and they pretty much give you free archery lessons, tips and tricks. The cost was very reasonable, it came out to $25 an hour with everything included. They have really nice equipment in there, a good variety from extreme hunting to recreational target practice. They do birthday parties and archery battles similar to paintball battles but with bows. read more

My buddy bought the introduction to archery class on Groupon. Him and I are into Arrow and wanted to save the city. I was not disappointed. After ordering the Groupon you sign up for the class. There are times throughout the weekdays (only) where you can sign up for times. We signed up for Wednesday @ 8pm because it was an adult only class. Him and I didn't feel like dealing with little kids. Upon entering the business you can see all the archery equipment, its pretty intense. I started to get really excited; the actual store is on the small side but since they have a shooting range, it really is a bigger store. You can see all the different bows, arrows, arrow holders (you can tell I'm a novice since I don't know the names to anything), practice boars - other animals too - ect. There was a class before us, with kids, finishing up. There are also others shooting as well, off to the side, with more experience - there was a little girl probably around 10 years old who put us all to shame. She had the weighted bow and was shooting the farthest distance, which what we were told was around 20 yards. Once the class started the female instructor "took attendance" and had people walk up to see who was there. She then had people get whatever that wrist thing is called and told people to stand at a number. There was more than six people (10 of us), so we had to rotate. She was not the best instructor but not the worst AND not along the lines of some other people's reviews about being racist. Obviously she was just doing her job. She was very curt, especially if you didn't understand what she was saying. She would get the most annoyed if you didn't follow directions after the second time she said it directly to you, but who wouldn't? Overall a funny lady that explains the rules, how to do things, how not to get shot, form and the basics to archery. Teaching is not for everyone and having to teach people because of a Groupon is probably even more frustrating. Also, she has to make sure that no idiots shoot themselves. Midway through, my bud and I seemed to get along with her nicely, cracked jokes and just did our thing. At first it's a big slow, getting to know how to shoot the arrows, people take their time initially. You shoot five arrows, wait until everyone else has shot and then grab the arrows when its all clear. Then you collect the arrows, place them back and the next group takes their turn. We rotate until the hour is up. You can take as many videos of yourself as you want. Overall the class is very fun and makes me want to go back. I am now a little more interested in becoming an archer. I bet that's why they do this class. Hopefully to get someone interested enough to buy products from the store. Basic bows appeared to be in the ranges of $500, the heavy duty ones in the $1,000+. I'd go back for this introductory course. I enjoyed myself. Just try to pick a class with less people so you can shoot more! read more

Got the groupon for introductory classes with my husband. THE WORST instructors ever, no patience, arrogant, racist and extremely rude. They will put you on the spot and make you feel stupid, even though it's introductory classes. Also, there was no ounce of enthusiasm or even encouragement. If the introduction classes were like this, why would anyone in their right mind sign up for more. It's a waste of time and money, please don't take there classes. read more

The boyfriend and I decided to try archery yesterday and we were not disappointed. We walked in and were asked to read a safety form and sign it. Safety first! It was our first time so Wayne helped us with the lane and gave us basic pointers. After a round of supervision we got right to it. It's amazing and fun! In such a short time I improved my shots! This was our first time trying out archery. My husband bought this for us full price ( $75 for an hour lesson) and later we saw there was a Groupon for just $30 (same exact lesson). We asked if they could honor the Groupon price since it was the same lesson but they rudely responded saying they won't. Our instructor was also rude and seemed to care more about us damaging their equipment rather than being safe/having fun. There was also a large group and we had to do alternate shooting, so in the 40-45 minutes we barely shot 25-30 arrows. Overall, I enjoyed the sport but next time I would go to a different location where the staff is more polite, engaging and gives us the most for our experience. read more

Had a very uncomfortable feeling with the customer service in this place. Never before had felt like this, when you could not see or touch or try or even look around without someone on your shoulder asking to help you, but in a concerned or mean way. Kids make them extremely uncomfortable too. We drove from Palo Alto all the way here, but I think the stores in San Jose and Milpitas are better. This is an excellent establishment for archery and shooting. Daniel is an outstanding worker here; he helped me (complete beginner) tune the compound bow and taught me how to shoot it. He was very attentive to help begin my journey into this sport and I lost all my nervousness assimilating into the culture thanks to his guidance. The instruction was short (I was a tad worried at first) but once we started everything went smoothly. The instructor was really nice, no complaints. This review is strictly for the customer service. I did not end up going to the shop or taking any lessons here because of my experience with Roger over the phone. I searched for nearby archery lessons and found this place. It looked easy enough to make reservations and I heard that there was a Groupon deal. What I did not realize and is not clearly stated, is that there is a separate calendar for Groupon vouchers that is only accessible through Groupon. I had made plans for a specific date and time according to the schedule posted on their main website, purchased the Groupon and was unable to book the available lesson... Unless I missed it, both sites state that lessons are by reservation only and no further details. When I called, I spoke to Roger on the phone. The shop had just opened, he said he was alone and there were already customers. That is fine and I do not want to waste people's time, but he had taken my call. He kept repeating that I was doing it wrong and "people don't read the fine print." He kept directing me and giving me instructions on how to book online, stating that he did not know and that it was on the website. This was frustrating to me because I was trying to ask questions about what was possible and he kept interrupting. I was more than willing to pay in full, but he did not present that option. "You are doing it wrong... go online." It was only after he made me cry (I tried to hide it, but pretty sure he could tell) that he started being helpful. He asked me to call back, which I was happy to do, and then he would help me out. I did so and finally got a satisfactory response. I could book the date and time that was convenient for me by paying full price. They would refund the value of the Groupon when I came in. At that point, I felt so uncomfortable because of how he treated me on the first call that I wanted nothing to do with Archery Only. I went directly to Groupon instead to cancel and they processed my refund right away. I am still very interested in taking archery lessons, just not here. read more

Archery Only is the best indoor archery range in the Bay Area. Wayne is incredibly knowledgeable of all the products for target, bowhunting, and he's got all kinds of wisdom and great stories. I bought a bow from them almost a year ago and have taken it in multiple times for small corrections, adjustments and work. I was shocked to find an archery range so close to my home in Fremont. I went here today hoping to ask the owners a few questions about bows and technique. I was looking over the various bows when a lady came to ask if I needed help. I told her that I was a total beginner thinking about taking up archery. No, I am not a hunter and I wouldn't even know what to do if I actually downed an animal. She was very helpful and patient. She made me feel welcomed and took the time to explain the differences between bows and how they need to be fitted to the archer. She also told me about the lessons they have on their indoor range at a very affordable fifteen dollars an hour which includes the use of a bow and arrows. It was a great deal of fun and the hour just flew by. My aim was not so good. I hit one empty file box that was off to the corner of the range. I mean I absolutely murdered it. My instructor got a good chuckle out of it. Haha. I did manage to hit a few bullseyes at about 15 yards. read more

Phoned in to see if the Groupon deal could be changed so that we just shoot for the same amount of time instead of the lesson since we were trained before at Pacifica Archery in Daly City. Was greeted by a VERY RUDE person on February 14th, 2014 at 1:40pm telling me that no way I was going to be shooting arrows unsupervised for an hour. Lol really, we're not a bunch of first timers shooting so I don't understand why they couldn't accommodate. Instead, telling me to pay $25/hr for an hour... I was amazed at the rudeness of this guy speaking proper English but clearly showed no professionalism and seemingly never dealt with any customers before in his life. Is this how you treat your potential customers? Sure, you may have some rules that may be different from other archery places, but no I'm not wasting time listening to basic archery, unless you are an Olympic instructor. The whole reason I even want to try this place was because the other archery place was across the Bay and just wanted the convenience to do it in Newark. I rather go shoot at PACIFICA ARCHERY IN DALY CITY. Way overpriced for what's offered.. I came here because my friend bought a groupon for an archery lesson. We came with a group of 4, but little did we know, that we'd be sharing the hour with another group of 4.. In the end the safety rules and intro took up the first 20 minutes, and we only got to shoot 6 times (30 arrows), because we had to keep switching off with the other group. The instructor was pretty decent, but did seem kind of detached and done for the day, given we were the last group before closing. We asked how much it was to come shoot, and she told us $25/hour. Awesome, Place! Wayne and Rodger are great! Rodger really helped me get the right bow. They don't oversell you and you will come back to keep up with the hobby. Wayne (The owner) spent at least 40 minutes giving me arching tips and tweaking my bow to fit my form. Don't believe the negative yelp reviews, they don't know what they are talking about. To be honest, I'm torn between a three star and a four star for this review. But I put four because I've decided that the focus of this review will be simply the $20/person beginners' lesson (40 mins on Mondays). I went with a friend to take the beginners' course because I needed a refresher on archery (it's been over a year since I've picked up a bow), and I wanted to give their indoor range a whirl and see how their customer service is. The lesson and the instruction were great! Very simple and straight forward (as it should be). If you've never done archery before, take their beginners' lesson. You'll be itching to get more time in when it's over, but it's a good course to get your feet wet. Their indoor range isn't large at all, but it's definitely enough to begin with. (I posted a photo of it. It's definitely not wide...but length wise, not bad at all.) Okay so why not five stars or even a solid four like the majority of the other reviews? That just comes down to the guy working the cashier/front desk. (Different guy from the instructor.) I asked him about bow recommendations and he retorted to me that it's like buying a car and that I need to be more specific. I told him that I was looking for a recommendation as a beginner, but something that would give me room for growth, and that I only planned on using it for recreational target practice (not hunting), and that I was thinking of recurve bows. He replied back and said "do you like the bows you shot with for the lesson? you can just get one of the bows you shot with." Not exactly the answer I was looking for when I'm asking for a recommendation. And of course I can't really translate the tone of his voice into this review, but let's just say that it sounded a little bit too condescending, even if I was asking novice questions. With that said, again, no problem with the instructor or the lesson; that was great. Just had a problem with the front desk and asking for recommendations. Judging from the other reviews, it sounds like it could just depend on who's working the front desk. All in all, I will probably be back here again to use the indoor range since it's the only one nearby Fremont, but... I'm really not inclined at all to ask anymore questions to their front desk if it's the same gentleman staffing it. read more

I gotta say that the staff here is amazing. So I went here today with a couple of friends for my birthday celebration. I have never done archery before, so I didn't know what to expect or how to do it. When we entered the building, there were some people already there shooting. I personally felt intimidated because everyone had their own gear and everyone looked like they knew what they were doing. Finally, someone came up to us to assist us and we were able to get our spots within 15min. If you're a beginner like me, they provide you with a bow, arrows, arm guards, and a short lesson about how to shoot. The staff is very kind and very friendly. I told them it was first time and told me not to worry and to have fun. To sum it all up, I had a great time and I will be coming back. I just need to gear up so I won't have to borrow their bows and arrows all the time. read more

We bought the Groupon here to take their class on Friday night and it was definitely worth it it. We got hooked! We've now been here several times during the open range hours. The staff are very helpful and knowledgable. The rental equipment and range are both in very good condition. Especially with newbies like me missing the target and hitting the back wall tarp. The skill level goes from newbie (like me), to Olympic-grade (this one girl looks like she's ready for war). The indoor range is great on a rainy day or windy day. Or my excuse is that this place is the closest to my home. Shooting is $10/hour per lane plus about $15/hour for equipment rental. They also have a prepay card which gives you a discount if you shoot here a lot. They are dead serious about safety here, which I appreciate. They also have a one-stop shop for all equipment, accesories, and repairs for all bows and crossbows. The brochures either gear to competitive shooting or bow hunters. This location is conveniently located at the Thornton and 880 exit in a nondescript building. This place is the only indoor range that I know of in the Bay Area. read more

They do get busy and it is not a large shop so sometimes you will have to wait. This seems to be the norm with Archery shops. I have been to them in New Mexico and all over California and it is pretty much the same thing. There is fast food but not fast archery. I came here with my girlfriends (four of us) since we got a groupon for an archery lesson. I am not sure how much it costs for a regular lesson, and we paid about $13 for a group lesson that lasted for an hour. This is also the first time I've ever gone to a place like this (and to do archery) and it's pretty cool. We were greeted immediately when we stepped into this little shop. We were a little early for our lesson so we just watched and browsed around the shop. The staff was very friendly and was just explaining the items to us while we watched and browsed. When it was time for our lesson, one of the staff, Lori, quickly got our information and guided us onto the floor where we shot the arrows. Lori and this other staff member, Rob (if I remember correctly) were helping us out. Lori first explained how to hold the arrows, where to place your hands and fingers, and how to shoot the arrows. After her explanation, we alternated between two groups with six people going at once. I think the other side was for private sessions. So both Lori and Rob went through the first group (and later the second group) to make sure we had the right form and that we were shooting correctly. They were very helpful and I definitely learned a lot in my first lesson. It was great because we did have a lot of time to shoot, even though we were alternating groups. I had so much fun and it was kind of rewarding actually! It was such a great deal and I was able to do so much within that hour. I definitely recommend this place and just the activity in general.
