First time taking archery and took the 60 minute introductory lesson! The place is kinda hidden but I included a pic so you'll find it by looking for the target on the outside door. We got there a few minutes before 4:30pm since that was our scheduled time. The inside was smaller than I pictured it to be from seeing the other reviews but it is a nice place to learn archery indoors. Once you arrive you will see a computer to sign in on. We were greeted by Ken who I believe runs the place and he was also our instructor. We also had to wait a bit because there was another class/session going on. I like that they provided all the equipment for you at no extra cost! They do have a dress policy so make sure your hair is tied and no jackets with buttons and of course closed toed shoes. Ken was nice and explained the proper form and instructions well but I will say he was a bit touchy at times. I understand he has to show us the proper form and he was correcting how to hold it etc but I will say it felt unnecessary sometimes. However, we still had a lot of fun for a beginner first lesson. On the website it says after your 60 minute lesson they encourage clients to continue shooting and that an extra 30 minutes is included of free shooting until the next time slot. We weren't able to have the extra full 30 minutes because there was already others waiting for the next time slot and also because we had to wait a bit in the beginning. After our session was over Ken let us know that if we want to come back, we can for $20 bucks to practice more for 1.5 hours! Keep in mind when you first book an introductory lesson it's $75 for one person and then $60 for two. read more

*First time review* oh my gosh we had so much fun!!! I came with my coworkers as a big group of 14. We split out into 2 groups of 7. I absolutely loved all 3 guys who showed us the ropes today! I feel bad I only remember Chuck and Jordan, don't remember the other guys name. I had so much fun learning about archery, I'm researching my own bows! Our session was a long one, 4pm to 6pm and we enjoyed every single minute of it! It's in a warehouse so it's a bit cold but just wear a jacket. Their hours are 3pm to 9pm and you have to sign up via online for an appt. After your first lesson, it's $20 each additional time you go. Totally awesome, I can't wait to go back! read more

The original planned date me and my friends wanted was booked out so we booked for a later date. They can get very busy, so plan ahead! I came with a group, totaling 7 for a beginner lesson. First visit, my boy and I did the intro lesson, which was very fun and informative. Neither of us had picked up a real bow in our life. We both loved it. A couple months later, we wanted to shoot again (open lane session, no instruction). Ken and Jordan, who helped us the first time, gave us a quick refresher before getting started. Not sure if this is the best analogy, but if you've never been, it's kind of like bowling: it's a fun family activity to do whether you're good or not, and if you want to get better, you can sign up for lessons and/or join a competitive league. This review is about doing a group lesson for complete beginners, and not for those who are more experienced. Every few months, my group of busy girlfriends (who are mostly moms) get together. It's frequently a challenge finding an activity that everyone wants to do and will enjoy. We somehow landed on doing a group archery lesson, and it was a great decision. We were all complete beginners. For our lesson, we started off by signing waivers and getting some equipment on us. For this, I would recommend getting there 5ish minutes before your lesson starts. Ken was our instructor, and he very clearly and patiently explained things to us. We also appreciated that he had a sense of humor throughout and answered our random questions. He began by giving us background information, safety tips, and basic information about the mechanics. We started off with the targets very close to get the basic mechanics down (-ish, I mean, none of us were going to be pros after 15 minutes). He went down the line one by one to make sure we had our stance right and were using the equipment correctly before we even fired our first shot. Throughout the lesson, he would push the targets further and further back to increase the difficulty so we felt like we were quickly "improving". He also gave helpful pointers and corrections to those whose arrows went awry and encouragement to all. I would say the one drawback of making this a group activity is that it's not an activity where people can interact with each other a lot. There are a few minutes between rounds for chitchat but because of the setup, I didn't really get to talk to my friends who were further down the line from me until after the lesson. read more

Came here for a group lesson with my parents that I booked through email about a month prior! Ken (I believe) was our instructor and he was very knowledgeable and kept us safe and engaged throughout the 90 minute session. He explained all the common etiquette and safety precautions for the archery range and gave us great pointers that helped us sharpen our shots! The range is definitely in an interesting spot- a random warehouse in Palo Alto with a funky parking lot, but it's hard to miss the bullseye target on their main entrance door. Ken is highly inappropriate toward women he favors. He stands way too close, gives excessive physical corrections, and makes strange sexist comments. He was excessively fixated on me despite there being others in our lesson. Even someone a couple lanes down noticed his strange behavior. We had such a fun team bonding experience for a group of 12! Affordable for large group team events and so much fun. We had a no hassle, easy and quick booking over email - no deposit required just an estimate on the total attendees. There's a base price for X members then an add on for each additional member. The entire experience was 2 hours long. We first signed waivers, went over safety briefings and some training / practice for about 20 minutes. Then we just did several rounds of shooting arrows! Looks like 10 people can go at once so having a group around that size would be best. Towards the last 30 minutes we even did a fun team building competitive game involving shooting balloons! For my birthday in 2022, I wanted to do an activity before dinner, but it's quite hard to find a place open on Christmas Eve! Luckily, Palomo Archery was taking reservations and archery sounded fun with a group of friends. Sadly, they don't have set hours or days of operation so they say to email ahead of time to reserve which might be troublesome to those who prefer to do things last minute or on the whim. In regards to communications, they respond pretty fast. Elliot was the one who responded to our emails and was quite informative and welcoming. In terms of location, it's quite hidden in an area behind the freeway and located in a section of a warehouse. It looked quite sketchy at first, but when you go inside you see a pretty narrow but spacious range. I've had archery lessons before and the most recent one before this was at Archery Only in Newark which was great, but I have to say - this was the best archery lesson ever! Ken, our instructor, was super easy to talk to, fun, welcoming, and really made sure we were well-informed about what to do. He also answered many deeper questions that many instructors would usually just tell you to come back next time to answer. My friends and I had a great time and we would definitely love to come back for free-range play and more lessons. However, we live in San Jose and their location isn't that great for us especially during traffic hours since they are so close to the freeway. Overall, I definitely recommend this place for beginners or people who want to try their first archery lesson. Just remember to book ahead of time because they get booked pretty fast and they have their regular archers there practicing a lot too. My bf and I had a fun time trying archery for the very first time. I emailed Palomo archery to set up a time to take an intro course which is $50 per person for 1hr and half class and included the bow and safety gear to borrow. In the beginning I felt a bit intimidated by the large bow but slowly became more comfortable as the instructor demonstrated and explained to us how to use the device. It turned out to be more like a private lesson for just my bf and I even though I thought it was going to be a group class but the other lanes were filled with other folks who were just there to practice archery. The instructor was very attentive and kept a close watch on us and offered suggestions on how to aim better. After the class I realize a big chunk of the having a good aim is down to maintaining a good form. I highly recommend Palomo Archery for your archery interests and adventure! It was my first time visiting with a few friends and we had Raymond as our instructor who was the best archery instructor one could ask for. He got us quickly signed in with the waiver, highlighted key safety information, and got us familiar with the technique within the first 10 minutes! I appreciate how patient and receptive Raymond was. He would watch us shoot and tell us how we could improve each shot while not being overbearing at all, which is exactly what you want in an instructor! You could tell that he is passionate about archery and teaching others and he explained everything very clearly. In our one hour, my friends and I got to practice shooting from the 5, 10, 15, and 20 meter point and got to shoot at balloons on the target board. We also played a fun game with the balloons where there were balloons placed at the outer rim of the target and our goal was to shoot within the circle and NOT the balloons. If we missed or hit a balloon, then Raymond would take a shot and his goal was to shoot the balloon as it was considered our 'lives'. It was such a fun game that got us all engaged, and allowed us to see how well a pro can shoot. Definitely appreciate Raymond for coming up with these fun games for us to practice shooting and will be coming back. Another plus: they had free snacks! read more

Compared to the other indoor ranges in the area, this one is unique in that it's located inside of what seems to be a warehouse garage. Not to worry, for they have a 20yd indoor range with movable targets and guiding lines for every 5 yards. As an archery practitioner I wanted to see how this range was compared to the usual one in Fremont. Here are the highlights: - It costs $20 for a 1.5 hour session, and it comes with equipment rental. This is great--the closest comparable range offers rental at $30 an hour. However, I have my own equipment and there wasn't a discount given that, which was strange. (For reference, the other range charges $12 an hour without equipment rental) - This place isn't a store--it's just a range. This range seemed to be appealing for many corporate events in the past due to its presence near some tech offices but that hasn't been doable since the pandemic. If I were to recommend this range to anyone, it would be to absolute beginners in the area or casuals who would like to try out Archery on their own as the staff here is friendly and helpful with getting one set up. I'm not familiar with lessons here so I can't comment on that. read more

Peter (I believe the owner) has a wonderful dry sarcastic sense of humor and will tell you outright that you suck, but is very patient in instruction and even let us shoot longer than we paid for because there wasn't a group booked after us. He also let me shoot a compound bow, which I've wanted to try for a while! Went a second time and paid the rate to use their equipment without instruction, but Peter was kind enough to still provide advice (and snarky remarks) for free.
