Barista yelled at me because I ordered my drink by the register instead of ordering in front of "the drink menu". Also, they had a huge line out the door. Seems like they're understaffed yet want it that way.... The shop seems to promote inappropriate behavior among staff members towards customers. Arcade Coffee Roasters is a place for coffee enthusiasts and non-coffee enthusiasts alike--they have options for all ages and tastes. This is a very unique shop. I must say I was hesitant to go here for a few reasons (none of them great, to be honest). First, the name--I didn't get the connection between "arcade" and "coffee" (then again what does that matter). Second, the location: it's in an odd building that doesn't scream typical coffee shop, with restricted and unusual parking. After overcoming these nonsensical, self-created mental barriers, we walked inside and saw that this is a sophisticated operation with wonderful products, employees, and a truly unique experience. When we entered, we saw a very nice menu with pictures showcasing the drinks and highlighting what makes each one special. The barista was super casual and friendly. She asked over the counter if we had any questions and told us to let her know when we were ready. Her welcoming approach was perfect for first-time visitors. We ordered the Mango Sticky Rice matcha and the Cherry Glaze matcha. Both were delicious, and it was clear that quality is a major focus here. The matchas weren't overloaded with syrup like some places; instead, they tasted naturally infused--subtle, balanced, and perfect. For snacks, we tried the salmon bagel and the blueberry scone. Both were excellent. The bagel was fresh and packed with flavor, again showcasing quality ingredients. The scone was one of the best I've had from a coffee shop--it tasted like it came straight from a bakery. The blueberries were large and bursting with flavor, and the texture was ideal: not too hard, not too soft. It was just right. (They should name it "Goldilocks"!) In addition to coffee, matcha, and chai tea, they also offer craft sodas and other choices for any mood. We decided to enjoy our drinks and snacks inside. As we sat, we noticed they have their own bean-roasting machine (totally unique!). I've never seen one in person, but for coffee lovers who enjoy fresh roasts, this means they bring in green coffee beans, roast them on-site, and produce the freshest, highest-quality product possible. (You could say "they have the beans" -- a little Curb Your Enthusiasm reference for fans of the show.) Aside from having "the beans," they also had a projector showing the World Cup. There are plenty of seating options: tables with chairs, standing desks, sofas, and benches. We will definitely be returning to this little slice of heaven on Earth. read more

stopped by this cutesy, casual cafe for a brunch with friends and it's located in a plaza that's predominantly next to corporate buildings and the only available parking seemed like it was either street meter parking or the parking structure. seats and tables are very limited here and may be hard to find availability as people do study and work inside here. as for the food and drinks, i ordered their raspberry matcha with oat milk which really tasted like the fruit loop cereal. i do wish it was a little bit creamier but the flavor was yummy, not so much matcha flavor though. i also tried the huevos rancheros and i'd give it a 7/10. portion was good for its price, but flavors were pretty one note; slightly spiced eggs and beans. read more

This might be the best latte I've ever had in the IE. I really enjoyed the low-key ambiance this coffee shop offers. I came here and we ordered 3 large draft lattes to-go on a weekday afternoon. My second drink was their Gibraltar which was a Cortado and I already knew it was going to be good. My last drink was a basic Honey Cinnamon Latte which was well balanced. I got espresso. I tried the single origin and the house blend. The single origins had good crema, medium body, with notes of chocolate and fruit/citrus. It wasn't bitter or burnt. Solid execution 4/5. Probably more flavor clarity would have made it perfect. The house blend was also good. Not bitter or burnt, good crema and slightly more creamy texture than the single origin. While pour-overs are usually my go-to, they weren't available when I visited, which surprised me since I noticed signage mentioning a tasting room on certain days. That said, the staff were very friendly and helpful, and the experience more than made up for it. It was really cool getting to see them roasting coffee while I was there. Growing up in Riverside, there was definitely a lack of solid coffee on the Eastside. So I'm stoked that Arcade is in this neighborhood now. Their space is no frills, but the industrial Roastery feel is definitely a vibe. They have plenty of seating, and SO MANY OUTLETS. It's a great place to catch up with friends or get some work done. The drinks are straightforward, but their pour over bar and holiday drinks stole the show. I got the vanilla pine and it was delicious. The baristas are incredibly friendly, but not in a cheesy way, which is appreciated. I also love that their beans help support local nonprofits like Path of Life. I'm the kind of guy that'll drive out of my way to get fresh coffee. And the coffee here is excellent, no complaints there. And really, I've had Arcade coffee over the years and it's consistently fresh roasted, there's a guy in there actively roasting as you walk in. The employees are kind and your ambiance is that of a modern hipster coffee shop. My complaint however is big enough to steer me away, I was shocked when I bought a bag of coffee beans to take home and it was over $30 dollars. And it's not a big bag, it's 12 ounces. Let me put that into perspective, that's the same size/weight as a soda can, so not a lot. Come on guys, $30 dollars? The beans are great, but they're not plated in gold. Nor I'm sure the farmer from Columbia didn't personally deliver the beans to your shop on the back of his mule. Love to support local, but looks like I'm ordering online now, good luck. read more
