Updated review. After posting on yelp, Harold the owner contacted me and wanted to correct the issue. The whole drainage issue was a simple fix that took 5 minutes and $6. Only reason for 4 stars is for poor communication. Everything was good until we were paid in full. After that it was hard to get ahold of the GC or the subs. When Harold found out of the issue he made good on it. Hopefully he will fix the communication issues and let future customers know how to resolve issues quicker. read more

I have been in the construction industry for over 20 years and have never experienced a company that is this disorganized. They lack communication skills, scheduling knowledge and are combative every chance they get. They're actually requesting final payment before the project is complete. They have gone beyond their contract end date by 2 months! Excuses after excuses for not getting job completed. Stay away from this pool builder and pay the money if it's a higher price, learned my lesson that I got what I paid for. Sales guy, Ryan, promised us certain things that they would cover but when it came down to it NOTHING was what he had said. The owner of the company Harold shows up every now and then and never owns up to how he runs his business. I waited 5 years to post this because I wanted to see how we would be treated after our money had been paid. A few months after completion we noticed cracks in the cement and sealant and reached out several times. There was no response. After a chunk of the pool border broke off we reached out again and no response. We were told we were part of the Aquos family after signing on. I guess that was only true up until they had $40k of our money. I'm giving this company 2 stars because the pool is at least functional (only due to our own maintenance and the help of another pool company.) When I selected Aquos Pools, it was not because they were cheapper than other companies but it was because their ratings and my confidence and trust in them I got during the design phase. I understood doing a big project such as building a pool and spa will be always some issues and I prepared to help to minimize that as I wanted my family to have a pleasant experience. I took days off to make sure every big job done right. From excavation, rebar, gunite, tile layout, deck framing, etc.I only saw Aquos Pools rep at the site very short time. Most of the discrepancies between the design and the work were resolved by me and the subcontractors. I dont even know who is the PM for my project. There is no project plan. That is ok and Im willing to continue to help to do that even I feel why would I pay Aquos Pools if Im the one who has to resolve discrepancies with the sub contracters. But what is very disapointing is the digging for electical and gaspipe. The dirt and streches are left open blocking the side gate, walkways and making my backyard a big mess. Sprinkler pipes were cut off. That was OK because it was necessary. But what was not neccessary leaving a big mess and dirt and streches there for weeks. I texted many times and were told three times that they would be taken care of. But until today, only a small part of it was done. I can help and be patient but when they do not keep their words and promises, I become helpless and cant do anything. Each day my wife and me can only just look at the mess. It is very irretating and disappoining. This would have been our exciting project but now it is not any more. Updated 05/15/2017. It took another phone call get someone to come out to close the streches. They said the cuff off sprinkler pipes will be closed when they come to install the equipment and I asked when. The Aquos Pools guy said I dont know. I will just have to close those myself so that I can turn on the sprinkler before all my plaints are dead. Will update the rating when everything is finished. Updated 07/06/2017: I thought that by now I would be able to have everything finished and I would be able to revise the rating but again it is another big disappoinment. Since early June, with many phone calls and texts to almost everyone at Aquos Pool including the owner. The unfinished work is still the unfinished work until now. The pool is finished and there only a couple minor things that they can only send their people for a couple hours to finish the work but they dont. I dont want to file a complaint all with the State lisence board and other agencie and I have trying too many to solve these with them but dont know what else I can do to get them to do as they said they would. Update 07/16/2017. After a few more texts, they came out to fill the dirt and the subcontrator came out to fix the stone. I can now say that the pool is complete. I upgrated the rating from 2 stars to 4 stars as over all I got a very beautiful pool. I just wish we did not have to deal with these problems. It would have been more exciting. I just want to give credits to Andrea and Joni for always trying to communicate with me. My advice to other customers is to be the site every time the subcontractors do the work and get them get all the detailed work done right when they are still at the site. Be patient and prepare to call/text them rather expecting them to call/text you even they say they would call or text you. Updated on December 4th, 2017: The filter scheduling on my AquaLink Z4 Controller suddently stopped working and I got nervious as Im going to travel out of the country for a month in the next week or two and without the scheduling it is going to be challenging for me to turn it on and off I texted Jonni and let her know that. She said she would send someone over. The next day, nobody contacted me to come out so I texted Jonni again and let her know about my travelling plan and she coordinated another person to come in on Saturday. Cliff came and tested it and it was really not working and he didnt know what else he could. He then called his friend and it was suggested restting the power supply to the controller. He did and that it resolved the issue! I was so happy and glad that Cliff called his friend instead of giving it up. I thought that was a great customer service. This yelp review has been a year in the making. Not because of Aquos but the lacking on our part. They built an oasis of a pool for us. They took our ideas and made them a reality. We've been able to get our pool in a landscaping publication which was an honor. They made our pool process easy and enjoyable. We can't say enough about Joni..! She has never left our side from the first day of her coming out. The reason we are doing this now is because we were reminded this weekend how top notch they are, even a year later. We had an emergency situation with our pool solar equipment. Nothing to do with the equipment or craftsmanship but an oversight on the start up. Contacted Joni on a Sunday and she quickly responded. She got us in touch with Diablo Solar in Martinez, who did our solar for them. I was being texted by Bryan from Diablo in no time. Joni then had Jorge who works for them and is top notch and knows his craft very well, out the next morning to check on everything. Even had a O ring for our fusion that needed to be replaced that my pool technician couldn't get because they are back ordered. Notified the company as was told that I have a plaster issue called molting. Also reached out to harold the owner. Never was anything done for pool. This company does not back up there work . This rating is only for the quote/estimate process; we did not ultimately contract with Aquos to do our pool project. Aquos was timely and very professional in scheduling an appointment to bid our backyard pool and decking project. We had a very specific design plan and aesthetic, and the salesperson literally executed our vision to the T in their 3D plan drawings and formalized quote. We also received the formal bid very quickly, which was appreciated. We interviewed a total of 7 companies to bid our project, and unfortunately Aquos was at the extremely high end, pricepoint wise (almost 1.5x more than where we wanted to be), even after we worked with the designer to remove some cost/features from the design. They seem to do beautiful work, but ultimately we decided on a company that was more in line with our budget constraints. read more

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Joni and Her family from Aquos Pools. From when my wife and I started our pool research, we were sold on Aquos pool's customer service reviews. Their reviews were above and beyond than other local companies. We met Joni along with her dad (Harold) and grandfather (Bob) at their design center in Manteca. When Joni showed us a 3D design of our yard with the pool (design was free) we fell in love. Joni gave us the quote for the job which was a bit more than our budget. We discussed our Budget with Joni and Harold and with some minor changes we came to an agreement, which we were very satisfied with. Let me add that Harold figured out a design which would meet our budget plan and not sacrifice the size and beauty of our pool. After meeting with the Aquos Pool family, my wife and I decided, there was no need to look any further. Is it smart not to shop around with other pool companies? In this case it was the best decision we made. You may save a few bucks somewhere else, but the quality of pool and amazing customer service is worth the investment. This review is solely for the bid/estimating process, as we did not end up contracting with this company. We interviewed four different local pool companies for our pool construction and Aquos was the first. Our friends had used Aquos to build their swimming pool so we wanted to give them a chance and we appreciate their effort to earn our business. Aquos was unique in terms of the fact that you go to their showroom to see the pool design; the rest of the builders all came to us or sent the design via e-mail. (They do have a nice showroom though.) While everyone we dealt with was friendly, Aquos was also the most "sales pitchy" of the various builders, implying that they have "exclusive technology" that no one else has, be it with filters or robot cleaners, which I later learned simply was not true. They spent an inordinate amount of time touting their filtering system -- a standard sand filter filled with special filter media, as well as touting their robot cleaning system. As I would later learn after doing independent research, any pool company can install such a filter setup upon request, and not everyone in the online pool community (TroubleFreePool - great resource) agrees that it's "the best" -- there are supporters and detractors. Aquos did not let us leave with a printed copy of our design proposal including the digital rendering or the list of features, although the salesperson did, hesitatingly, offer to email it to us if we wanted him to. The on-screen estimate listed the "features" but appeared to have minimal cost itemization, so there's no real transparency as to how they arrive at the final out-the-door figure. (We later found this was the practice of other builders as well. Only one builder--the one we went with--presented us with a specific breakdown of all the costs involved in every aspect of the pool construction.) The follow-up process was also different than any of the other companies we dealt with. Other builders presented their design and waited to hear back from us. Aquos was very eager to hear back from us and checked in with us numerous times asking if we were ready to build or if we had any questions; we had to remind them that we were still weighing all our options and consulting with multiple companies. The final factor in our decision was the design. While Aquos designed a nice pool, we simply liked the design another builder came up with better, and we also felt we were getting a little more pool for the money. read more

We had an excellent experience with Aquos. Prices are reasonable and they are down to earth, tell it like it is guys. Our pool was started in mid April and here we are swimming before the end of May and before the scheduled completion date. Also, they aren't salesmen trying to sell you everything under the sun like some of the other companies we got quotes from. They also end the experience with an instructional meeting about pool care and how to do the chemicals and they said we could record it so we could go back and watch it if we forgot anything. I could not be happier with how smooth the construction of our pool went. There were a couple weather delays but that was it. I also have 2 very happy children and 10 happy cousins that all come to swim since we have the only pool in the family! If you are looking to get a pool put in, go with Aquos. I'm not getting an in-ground pool this year, but if I were it would be with these guys. I had them give me a call just to see if I even had the budget to do it. They were very honest and straight-forward with me - even to the point of telling me what to expect if I choose to go with an above-ground alternative. I'm 100% certain I could find a guy who would tell me he can put a pool in my yard for the amount I have to spend, but I'm also fairly certain it would be problematic throughout the entire build and maintenance...and probably cost me more in the long run. When looking for a contractor, it's not the best choice to just go with the cheapest price. My wife and I have been waiting for 3 years to put a pool in. We have done pool projects in the past and have had poor experiences. I shopped around for months, doing the research. I landed with Aquos Pools. From the beginning it was nothing less than professional, prompt and dependable. Most people think I am getting a perk for writing this, but that could not be farther from the truth. Our backyard by no means was an "easy fit" for what my wife and I were asking. Suffice it to say, Aquos nailed it, meeting every expectation from start to finish. First upon calling and setting up an in home appointment with Harold Tapley (Owner) was effortless. He arrived at my home prepared, already familiarized with our odd dimensions in the backyard. This was a no pressure meeting and my wife felt instantly comfortable. Harold first introduced a little history about his company, showing proof that his business has stood the test of time in the area, family run and operated, taking pride in that fact. Next he just sat back and listened to my wife's vision of the backyard along with all her disappointments from previous builders. After taking notes on the general design, he then went step by step with recommendations for setup of equipment, location, size, etc. When we were all done outlining our vision, Harold left letting us know he would put something together and get back to us. To our splendor, the response was almost immediate, less than a week, sending us a 3D video of what he could build for us. When to project was done, I couldn't of asked for a single thing more, Aquos met every expectation, missing nothing. After making our choices on tiles, surface, color, equipment, etc., we committed to getting a full quote for the build. When we crunched the numbers, they met our budget goal without us compromising on the "luxury" upgrades. Just a few highlights of what we did: We asked them plumb filter not only for the pool water but for spa as well, extra dedicated pump for waterfall, so not to lose ability to run spa and waterfall simultaneously. Harold also helped to install, high efficiency, quiet equipment. The first night I heated the pool to 90 degrees and the spa to 105 one night when the temp outside was 52. I went to bed and turned heater/pump on overnight to be ready to go the next day. The next day I asked my neighbor if the equipment bothered him, running all night, and he stated he never even knew it was on. I could write even more, but they finished on time, on budget, with no compromise to the vision my wife and I had of our backyard. I would recommend them on their quality of service and attention to detail, but I recommend them more for the personal touch and attention to detail. It truly felt like a friend was doing me a favor. If you are interested in putting in a pool I would recommend Aquos Pools. Harold was very knowledgeable and helped us design what we wanted at a fair price. During the build the Aquos team was great. Ashley was amazing, and on top of everything which kept the project moving along smoothly. Like any project this size, not everything turned out perfectly. Cecil Gunite, the sub contractor that Aquos used did a good job on the rebar, gunite, and plastering of the pool. But the Cecil team that poured the concrete pool deck rushed the job and did a very sloppy work on where the concrete meets the decorative rock. Although it's still not perfect, Aquos did do their best to fix these problems. After the pool was finished, Cliff was very friendly and did an excellent job showing me how to run the equipment and how to keep the pool clean. He was also quick to respond to any additional questions I had. Months after the pool was finished I did have a minor add on piece of equipment fail, but after a bit of calling and percetince. I had been trying to convince my husband for years to put a pool in our backyard and finally he agreed! We called several companies but ultimately decided to go with Aquos because we liked that they had been around for several decades and that they were family-owned. Unfortunately, we got off to a bumpy start when our sales guy didn't write the paperwork properly and my husband blew up when a 6-foot pool was dug instead of a 7-foot pool as we had requested. We put things on hold until Harold, the owner, could come out and we could come to a resolution. He actually noticed that our pool was lower than the patio and he suggested that the pool be raised to help with drainage. We were shocked that the guys working on the pool didn't realize this and we couldn't help but wonder what would've happened if Harold hadn't come out. Things went fine for the most part until it came time to put in the pump and filter. It was placed in the wrong spot, after we had already discussed with the workers where we wanted it placed, and once it was in, there was nothing they could do about it. Again, a major issue with communication. My husband had to be here every single day that they were working on the pool to insure that everything was going according to plan. The ONE day he wasn't there, that's when the filter and pump went in. Such is life, I suppose. I do have to say that Joni, Harold and Jorge were a pleasure to work with. Very good communication with them, as well as their office staff. They're very good about calling to let you know what the next step is and who will be coming out to do whatever work is necessary. Anytime we had a question, they were very prompt about returning calls and/or coming out to help us. Overall, we are extremely happy with our pool and, in the end, that's all that matters. It's gorgeous and even though it's not 7 feet deep (hahaha), we're quite satisfied. I would recommend this company but, as with any huge house project, you need to make sure you have excellent communication and expect to micro-manage a lot of the work. read more

This is an update to my previous review as Aquos Pools has elected to not only reply on my review on their FB page, but also hide my review on their FB page. I would like to make sure all potential clients are aware who they are dealing with. I have provided their response below: Alex, We are very sorry you feel your expectations were not met. We took all of your concerns serious enough to demo out a beautiful waterfall and replace it at no cost to you. We only provide quality work and artistic craftsmanship. Your pool is stunning. We care about all of our customers and we are very disappointed by how you view our family business. We hope your family enjoys your pool and we appreciate your business. To which I also replied once again, you will see that below: It is nice, when judging from this picture. Unfortunately all of these potential customers will not have an opportunity to see our many email exchanges, the text message exchanges, etc...They won't have an opportunity to see the pool that is unable to skim itself based on the poor planning and placement of plumbing. They will not see the issues with the waterfall not being able to be run separately from everything else, again based on poor planning and a cheap way of plumbing in an attempt to reap additional profits by your company. All of the above mentioned issues could have been avoided for minimal cost by the way, so I'm not sure why things were done the way they were. These potential customers will not see our initial discussions, the negotiations, the banter back and forth on issues that could have easily been avoided with proper communication. They can not see the major issues of not placing the discussed and agreed upon sleeving in the concrete that we now have to live with, they can not see my dog walking around on my freshly poured 706 sq ft of concrete decking because your crew just showed up and did not properly schedule as discussed. They do not hear your own employee tell me that I should put a camera up in my backyard so I can see when your crews are on site. They do not see Harold the owner of your company offering to take care of an issue and then taking that offer back and threatening a lien on my property instead. They can not see that we paid cash for every invoice within days of receiving them. They can not see that You threatened and strong armed a young family that was excited to work with your company. They can not see that we changed design plans and flexed our budget in an attempt to alleviate those possible downstream construction project issues and work with Your "family owned company" Hopefully this review saves just at least one other family from a similar experience. I see your reply as an attempt to save face on your social network page which is used for advertising and I understand that there is no sincerity at all when you wrote this reply. If your company cared as much as Cliff pretended to, you would be offering solutions instead of apologies. If they would like to keep going, I will post the text messages from my project manager and also my email exchanges with the owner. My wife & I decided to have a pool built in our backyard. We called one company that did our friends pool; guy came out took measurements said he'd get back to us in a week or so & no answer. I followed up w/ their office "we'll make sure he calls you back" WRONG! Our next call was Aquos & they sent out Ryan. We were on the same page from the first minute; free form & natural rock waterfall. Ryan drew up a beautiful "exactly what we were looking for" computer drawing. We met at the design center & got our price which was a little cheaper than we were thinking which gave us money for the upgrades we were looking at (Solar heating & more concrete) but we had 1 hiccup. We are on a septic & we have an odd shaped lot so Ryan & the Owner suggested to have our septic & leech lines located so we didn't waste money on pulling permits & such. Thankfully we did because (there's a lot of variables) the even though the pool was clear of the septic system, its footprint was in the way of a "future" septic system if/when we ever need to run a new leech line. Thank you Aquos for not rushing the "sign on the dotted line" as we would have, to ensure we were able to move forward which unfortunately we are unable to do so. This says a lot for a company who's not willing to take your money until they're 100% sure, thank you again. Looks like we're going to have to go to Kauai again this year instead of getting our pool. read more

When we decided to build a pool in our yard we contacted Aquos and spoke with Ryan, he came out in the evening due to our schedules and gave us a competitive quote and design. From there Shawn was out breaking ground on our project. Along the way we worked with the different trades and had a great experience. Ryan went above and beyond his job of sales person to answer any of our questions, even answers calls and texts in his days off. Ashley in scheduling was awesome to work with as well. The end result is beautiful, but boy ole boy was it a hassle and headache arriving at it! The foreman showed up on the first day of the job and introduced himself and said that I'd be dealing with him if any problems came up. He said at the rate they were building pools expect it to be done in 6 weeks at the earliest and 8 weeks at the latest. Well, that couldn't have been any farther from the truth! The wait time in between the different phases of the job were unacceptable (and NO we weren't delayed due to weather in anyway). They laid out and dug the pool in one day, and then came back and trenched all of the plumbing and electrical on the 2nd and 3rd day. They then started on the rebar and this is where the problems began. They didn't come back for another 4-5 days to finish the rebar and then another 2 weeks for gunite. We then waited 2 1/2 weeks for the tile guys to come and install a SINGLE row of tiles for the water line. After that we waited another 2 weeks for the masonry guys to come and do their part. I was calling every other day and pushing for this project to be completed, and got lucky that they had a job delayed or it would have been a 3 week wait for the masonry guys. The electrician then came out and ran the conduit and electrical along the foundation of my house on the edge of the concrete walkway on the side of my house. I had to step over the conduit/electrical to walk into the side door of my garage. I called and told Aquos pools that this was unacceptable, so they sent the same bonehead electrician back to my house 2 WEEKS LATER and he rerouted the conduit/electrical over the side garage door and right back down to the sidewalk. When he rerouted the conduit/electrical it stuck out 2-3 inches from the foundation of the house and into the walkway (which he thought was acceptable). I once again called and spoke to a man named Shawn and explained how this was unacceptable. His response to me was "well what did you expect"? I expected the conduit/electrical to be trenched into the ground (like the rest of the electrical) or run under the eave of the house. Now it was time for them to plaster the pool. A man showed up, rang the doorbell and explained that he was there to plaster the pool and asked for the final payment. When he completed plastering the pool I told him that there were MULTIPLE things that still needed to be finished and repaired, and that I'd pay the final payment when this was all done. That evening Shawn called and threatened that he would have walked from the job and not filled the pool with water had he known I was refusing final payment. I wasn't refusing final payment, I was wanting the job completed per the contract. Shawn and I reached a verbal agreement that I'd pay the final payment and that he'd address and correct all of my concerns that following week. Well the following week came and went with multiple text messages and phonecalls to Shawn going unanswered. After waiting another 3 weeks and given multiple excuses to why an electrician couldn't come back to properly run the electrical it was finally repaired and done correctly. However, they left the holes in the side of my house from the two previous attempts of running the electrical. These aren't the only problems that I encountering with Aquos pools during my pool build but didn't want to sound petty, and only included the major issues. I even tried to reach Harold (owner multiple times and he never received or returned my phonecalls? Response to Harold's reply: You MIGHT of had the interior finished within 8 weeks, but the project sure wasn't! During our phone conversation yesterday all you offered were excuses to the problems and delays I experienced (this individual is new, that's not his area of expertise etc etc). A return phone call, or text message is always appreciated by a customer when they have questions or concerns. It would have been nice for you to reach out and address my concerns and issues prior to me posting a negative review of your company and the service they provided. UPDATE: we had an issue with a rebar bleed onto the pool surface. The company stood by their work and remedied the situation to my satisfaction. I understand that things happen and as long as the warranty holds, I'm a satisfied customer. We used Aquos pool when we renovated our backyard in Fall 2015/Spring 2016. We chose them over other companies because we liked the idea of a family run business and hoped we would get quality work given the family reputation was at stake. Overall, we are happy with the construction of our pool. Aesthetically, it's a great design and looks beautiful However, the process was far from smooth. Our project started in late October and was expected to be completed in 8 weeks. While I understand that weather did cause some delays, the pool was not finished for 5 months. We had to continuously contact them in order to get the next stage of the project scheduled. Once our last payment was made (which unfortunately happens before all of the "finish" work is complete) it was like pulling teeth trying to get issues fixed. We went with a pebbletec finish and this was done improperly the first time and dark markings were left all of the bottom of the pool. It literally took weeks for this issue to be addressed and remedied. The crew also left a pipe just sticking out of the ground and I had to ask at least 5 times to have that taken care of. I will say that everyone we dealt with was very friendly however their customer service and general responsiveness left a lot to be desired. I think you can expect a nice finished product but plan on lots of repeated phone calls and follow up to keep your project moving forward. read more
